My Samsung galaxy s2 will not receive or send any calls or texts whilst i have my contract virgin mobile UK sim in, the mobile internet still works fine though. I can use the phone with a 3 sim in even though it was locked to Vodafone when i got it, It's not a problem with the sim either, i can put in in other phones and it will work just fine.
I've tried flashing many different kernals and firmware in the hope to fix this problem but none have worked.

UPDATE: Whenever i enter the call settings on the device it won't let me enter call forwarding settings and additional settings, it' comes up with the message: Network or SIM card error.

Anyway, I decided not to root or anything, and officially update to froyo using Kies mini. It worked, but I have no reception at all, and when I go to Mobile networks, it asks to "Insert a SIM card". Also under Baseband version it's unknown WTF!

give it 10 minutes on that baseband thing
It's been two hours.
I suppose the phone would at least recognize that there is a SIM card in there, but it does not even do that. In settings under Status everything is Unknown.
Mobile network state is Disconnected and Service State is Out of service...
Try reflashing back to stock and then re-down load the 2.2
Nah, don't want to risk getting another brick. Tmobile is sending a new one with express shipping paid on their part. The phone, I just got it today, and it feels cheap, if you shake it, you can literally feel the vibration.

I need some help. I have been searching forums all day trying to find a solution to my problem, but I'm just getting more confused. So please, if there is someone out there that can help, I would be grateful.
Bit of background. Yesterday, my phone was working correctly and when I went to make a call later in the day I had no network. When I tried to check the network settings, it stated "Insert SIM card to access network services".
When I checked Settings>About device the Baseband version is listed at "Unknown"
I read somewhere to try *#06#, which I did and it shows IMEI/MEID "null / null"
My phone is a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 on UK Vodafone network, the rest of the phone info is as follows:

I have already tried the following:
1. Removed battery, waited 10 minutes, rebooted - Failed.
2. Wiped data and factory reset - Failed.
3. Installed a completely new version of 4.1.2 from HERE - Failed.
4. I have also tried my SIM card in my misses GT-I9100 and it works fine, so it's a handset issue.
I am at a loss of what else to try.
Can ANYONE help me, please!!!

If you've never 'messed with' the phone (rooted it or run non-stock firmware), send it in for warranty service if your warranty is still good. Trying something that could potentially bork that warranty & end up costing you money isn't worth it, and there's a fair chance they wouldn't work anyway unless you had an EFS backup which you wouldn't have if you've never rooted your phone.

The rom you linked to is the older leaked pre-public version of Sammy JB. You should try flashing the latest final public version from here.
You need to flash another modem ... Tell me if it works or not

I searched an answer on xda and did everything that you advised (flashing another rom, factory resets, swapping SIM card, removing battery for 15 mins, etc.). Only thing that I haven't done is flashing modem, because I don't know if I can flash it on i9070.
Ask anything, I propably forgot to tell you about something.

Is the phone number unknown so you won't display it in forum ? I wouldn't think it should say unkown. Also, maybe check the smsc number and make sure its right.

Try flashing modem.bin or whole new firmware once again of Samsung through Odin...hope it helps you...

It literally says unknown. SMSC number is also correct.

I had tested few roms from sammobile.com. It didn't help
And just to make it clear- phone works perfectly fine, except of any sort of "phone" service. I'm worried that it could mean some kind of hardware problem

WiFi is working ok
i have checked the APN settings and they are correct
although in the preffered network list there is no vodafone uk PLMN code i have tried to add it and it add to list but nothing then disapears on reboot

i have installed CWM Recovery and backed up the stock ROM (learnt from previous mistake) i have tried to flash the smartstayv4.zip CWM Rom but got stuck at boot so back to stock anyone know how to fix the data problem or suggest a ROM / baseband that may help me

Ok so i have tried a few diffrent sims in the phone and
three uk works with full h+
orangeworks with h+
o2 works with edge
but still nothing on my vodafone sim (its contracted so i cant change)
anyone have any suggestions before i sell the phone ?
I have spent the past week looking through Google, rooting my phone, learning about Odin and EFS Professional. Everything I've done so far hasn't been much help. My friend got a free Samsung Galax S4 LTE from his other friend, but he didn't need it, so he gave it to me. Everything about it works great. Connecting to my router, adding music and videos... all except one thing, which is the IMEI number; it says Unknown, and I've ran out of ideas how to fix it. I did download some other 1.4GB file and used Odin3 to "PDA" it, but I'm not sure what that even did. I've checked YouTube for suggestions. Mostly it just says to dial some numbers (like #*06#) but when I hit dial after that, I just get a "mobile network not available". I need help from a forum that seems educated on this matter. What do I do? I imagine I'll have to install something, but I can't seem to find out which one. I would really appreciate some help. I need the IMEI number to activate my service for this phone. These are the specs:
