I have my EVO 3d pretty much exactly how I want it. 1st question is if I up grade I will have to re install everything won't I?
2nd, what new features will I get?
The evo 3D wasn't built for ice cream sandwich, so you can't get all of what ICS has to offer. I personally am disappointed with ics on my 3D.

Actually ics is available for evo 3d as an upgrade, there is a new version of sense 3.6 which gives you ics plus some nice features on sense, new homescreen and dock, there's some minor tweaks, to many to go into detail. Now sense 4 is as available but it was not designed for the evo, so there are minor things which don't work but it's overall much nicer with more shortcuts and improvements. Hope this helps, Sense 3.6 with ics will improve overall performance, minor over gb but improvements.

you're right - the evo3d was not built for ICS - but HTC has built ICS for the evo3d
ICS has been integrated into a full system update to the phone , unrooted
so. you get everything the evo3d has to offer - 3d pictures and video, 4g wimax, and everything else supported by the makers of the phone
plus a better and faster system with much better battery life and features , over gingerbread
.
so what are you talking about?

I don't understand what you mean. You build the software for the hardware not the other way around. It's just a little tiny bit easier to change software than hardware...

its ok - i dont think anyone really understood
to answer the OP - you wont have to reinstall anything - the device will update itself (if we are talking about official htc OTA update) --- if we are talking about rooted developed roms, then yes , reinstall or restore a backup
also read here to find out new features - http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/...ical-differences-between-gingerbread-and-ics/

wow! if this is your answer, then technically any phone that did not come stock with ICS was "not built for ICS" I personally think ics is way better than GB! Multi tasking is a pretty awesome feature! As far as I know, ICS was designed to work better on dual core phones... the EVO3D was one of the first dual core phones sprint released, so I would say that it utilizes ICS perfectly

It's disappointing that HTC gives you half a** quick settings in the pull down menu for ICS. No on/off selection for wifi nor auto screen orientation. You can't even add settings or change them.
Tapping on total memory to pull up and close apps takes over 10 seconds at times to load running apps.
I'm definitely rooting this replacement phone.

Well there's also the free dropbox storage for a year. I don't remember whether its +3 or +5 GB, either way its a boon.

Stock ICS on the Evo 3D is great. It's much smoother than stock GB, has some nice new features and there are a few ICS and higher only apps(like Chrome) that you can't install on GB.
Why aren't you running JB?

I was thinking of downloading a 3rd party status bar widget, but I hear that it consumes battery faster.

I upgraded, not sure how I feel about it yet, but I will have to get used to the new notification sounds
For one, I've never had the double blur 3d bug that soooo plagued GB when viewing 3d pics in gallery.
Two, the 3.0 kernel has given much better power management.
I am having no issues with ICS and very happy with the OS upgrade.

I think ICS is not as smooth as GB, but there are some cool features. The screen off battery life is awesome, but the battery life seems worst when multitasking. I only got about 3 1/2 hours while listening to music, web surfing, texting, ect. On zr3d v 4.3 I got about 4 1/2 hours.
Im really like my ics rom.. d3rp drama.. Chrome and Google Now..

Sense....fashooooooo never liked MIUI

Neither. Sense is way too heavy.
Both have their pros and cons...I switch back and forth. MIUI boots up a LOT faster, gets better battery life, I like the pop up text messages, settings menus are definitely more organized, and just overall look and functionality. I use LauncherPro because I can't stand having my homescreens cluttered with all my apps. Sense is very bloated but looks a bit better (as far as Warm 2.3 goes), no bugs, 4G works, and performance is a bit better. However my GPS is completely ****ed on Warm 2.3 right now, but it works fine on MIUI. Can't figure out why.
is there a way to turn off the 3d effect on the rosie? like, when the certain widgets pop out. I just flashed a rom on my rezound that you can turn it off on leedroid tweaks, and it makes the rosie move at like 60fps.. it's so fast. this thing lags like crazy and is awful so i want to see if there's a way to speed it up!

Try Spare Parts or Spare Parts Plus (both free) from the Market. Might give you the speed up you need.

He makes a rom for this device, running it right now. However, there aren't many tweaks in it. I believe an updated version is due to release soon. Perhaps it will have more tweaks.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
yeah, he makes it for the flyer...which sucks because the view isn't compatible with flyer roms they're like the same exact device, but the flyer is different enough that it warrants different development for each..
Man, I wish I knew where I read it. But there is a thread or write up on what you need to change/edit in sense to remove the 3d scrolling. I know some Roms have it disabled.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
damn! that would be great...idk if anyone else agrees, but scrolling through homescreens on honeycomb is horribly slow lol
yeah mine is the same way and was hoping to disable that as well. I am sure lee is working on a new version and hopefully will make it less laggy.
if i recall though, lee doesn't ake anything for the view... only the flyer :-(

As I love the camera software on this phone, I am not sure I would want to lose Sense camera
I ran Cyanogen on my OG Evo... but I have really come to appreciate much of what sense has to offer.
I think that between Car Mode, Camera App and Dialer (all of which I use every day) I could not stray away from sense for very long. I know that there are 3rd party apps that emulate what sense can do but they really aren't up to the level that sense is.
I would definitely flash it to check it out but I'm pretty sure I would return to sense in short order. I hope that the official HTC Jellybean / Sense combination will be as awesome as I think it can be.

I definitely don't dislike CM... I just like the functionality of sense (beyond the widgets). I feel the dialer is just laid out better in sense - easier to navigate (for me). It is the lesser of all the things that I mentioned but something I noticed nonetheless.
I tend to listen to podcasts and use navigation a lot(I'm a driver) and im noticing more frequently since the update that sense will reload when backing out of Navigation. I also get it when backing out of memory intensive games too. The same games I use to play and the same navigation I've always used in ICS and not have this issue. Back in the day with Sense reloads you would see a "Loading" message and sense would come back. Now it's just a home screen with 0 widgets that eventually reappear.
What gives? I thought I'd be done with sense reloads by the 3rd product cycle. I know the whole manage your apps and use less home screens tips. The thing is I'm set up the same way I've always been set up, shouldn't have to change anything.

I used to get that on my old EPIC. Nothing on the screen and seconds later icons would populate. When I had sense reloads on ICS I always got the loading message. I think you should definitely try a different rom, as it seems no one else is getting it on JB. Goodluck dude, hope it gets better for you.

I used to have a sense reload just about everytime I hit the home button on ICS. It was unbearable. Now that I have JB it rarely happens, and when it does it loads significantly faster. I'm stock btw. I used to be rooted, but went stock after testing out jellybean and sense 4+

HTC can't win. People ***** that sense reloads so they implement the most aggressive anti multitasking "bug" to fix it.
Now that they unbroke multitasking sense may reload more.
It works fine for me personally, but I un install, freeze, or refuse to run memory intensive things like face unlock, live wallpapers, and some stock HTC and Sprint junk
HTC can win.. Simply don't F### up and do dumb crap. If they want to continue with sense(which I enjoy) then make sure the device has proper resources.

I think it may be a little more complex because of the new blink interface. It may require a phone with burly specs. Me personally I don't feel like the LTE's GPU is equipped to even handle jelly bean let alone sense 5 but we shall see. No doubt someone will port it eventually but how smooth it runs and how much of it works remains to be seen.

Blink, I'm assuming is the live tiles? If so I feel they would juss be a battery drainer. Not going into JBs performance on any one phone. Each phone is different.
