Problems with external sdcard - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
After flashing the SuperNexus rom (build1) i couldn't mount the internal sdcard.
I tried to flash another rom but in CWM there was the same problem.
With this guide ("[GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII" up to the 7th step) i could flash the stock rom and the files on the internal sdcard are shown.
Now the external sdcard wouldn't work anymore. The recovery mode (volume up+home+power) quits with the error message "E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)" when trying to apply an update. If I open the settings of android, external sdcard pluged in, the process settings crashes.
How can i fix this problem?
Thanks for your support!

[Q] HELP !!! Streak wont read SDCard to flash Update.pkg

hi
I ahve downloaded a pkg from dell and want to load the phone back but i am just getting errors
it says it cant mount the SDCard:Update.pkg
any ideas ??
This is the wrong section bro. Are you using the stock recovery?
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
If you are trying to install from recovery rename the package to update.pkg. This will wipe all your apps and settings.
You must use stock recovery to install a .pkg file.
You may need to flash the proper recovery first.
See: Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM
Note: if you downloaded direct from Dell tapping on the download complete notice in the notification should start the update process. This will update without wiping your apsp and settings.
followed that guide and when it should be installing from SD i get the following
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.pkg
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
sorted now, that guide sorted it, but had to change SD Card it was not working in the streak but was ok in the PC.......
anyways... I have never been so happy to see the O2 screen in my life

I had same problem with SD today. Windows PC doesn't format card correctly for phone. Remove the external SD card you are currently using. REPLACE WITH CARD THAT WONT WORK. Reboot phone until it will reboot completely. Go to SETTINGS==>SD CARD & PHONE STORAGE==>UNMOUNT SD CARD==>FORMAT SD CARD. Card will now work in Streak. MAKE CERTAIN YOU DON'T FORMAT THE CARD THAT IS WORKING!!!!!
I've had this same problem, I can't flash anything. I've tried to flash 1.9.1, because I only have 1.9, and I get the same error. I -have- tried changing the name. Doesn't work. Can anyone give me a complete step by step to fix this?
i got it solved
so... this is how it's happened to me.
when i reboot the streak after i fastboot flashed the streak with streakmod recovery, the recovery will be back to stock recovery. so... i have to delete install-recovery.sh from /system/etc to prevent the streak reinstalling the stock recovery, before it succeed to boot android OS.
so i flashed to streakmod recovery and reboot it to go into recovery mode and plan to choose "update from sdcard".
and when i tried to choose the update.zip from sdcard, there's error message:
"can't mount /sdcard"
so, i think that maybe because my sdcard was plugged into PC and got 'half-mounted', so recovery can't mount it.
so i powered it off, eject and re-insert the external sdcard again, powered it on and go into recovery mode, choose the superuser.zip to root my streak... AND... TADAAAA.... i'm all rooted

[Q]E:can't mount /sdcard/

After using Odin, I have this problem
'E:Can't mount /Cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /Cache/recovery/log....'
Then I wipe it. It is success.
But when I choose zip from sdcard
It said E:can't mount /sdcard/
How can I solve it?
I can't boot my gs2 now!

I can't boot and can't read my internal sd, how can I flash another rom?
Using CWM, you can mount /sdcard.
Check mounts and storage menu.
Also try "Mount Usb storage", connect to pc and check if comp detects your phone.

E:Unable to write to ums lunfile(No such file or directory)
Try flashing one of the rooted kernels using Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Currentlyhaving the same issue.
This is a kernel issue. It happened to one of the 2.x Siyahkernel beta versions. Simplest solution is to boot the phone and use CWM to flash a different kernel using the tar format (instead of the zip format good for use in recovery mode) (flash a kernel version that's known to be without this problem).
If you can't get past the boot screen, just use odin. But then if you can't get past the boot screen you probably need to flash a ROM over anyway.
I am having the same issue with my internal SDCARD
I cannot access my internal SDCARD. When I insert my external (/removeable) sdcard, recovery sees that as the SDCARD.
I have tried to mount/ dismount/ usmount the internal SDCARD - same error.
THIS is the TMOBILE T989 and we got it yesterday - brand new.
So, I did get it to work from the removeble SDCARD, but I am so use to using the internal SDCARD on my VIBRANT as the primary resource for ROMS, etc, and the external SDCARD as a backup - that it is kinda strange to work now with only one SDCARD (the ext).
It must be something in the recovery that does not see the primary SDCARD...
CAn anyone help, please?
Note that CWM 4 and CWM 5 behave differently with respect to internal and external sd cards (well CWM 4 simply doesn't do external sd card). It'd be your best interest to flash a kernel that comes with a CWM version 4.x.x and for sure internal sdcard will work.
In CWM4, internal sdcard is /sdcard. External card is /emmc. (you can only format external sdcard but not write to it nor mount it.
In CWM5, you can restore nandroid backup from internal sdcard (but you can flash updates from both) . And in the CWM app, default backup location is the external sdcard.
Those who are having problems with CWM 5, flash this version of CWM from your CWM!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h1yia0gt1sbnbie/cwm-4.0.1.5.zip
You will have cwm 4.

[Q] i can't access my int-storage from CWM

hi there
i was removing ext-sdcard to install a new rom to my sgs2 and follow these steps:
.run into the Recovery
.wipe data
.wipe cache
.enter mounts and storage
.format cache, system, data, sdcard, emmc
.back to main menu
.enter advanced
.wipe dalvik and cache
.back to main menu again
.enter mounts and storage
.then to mount usb storage
.copying rom files from my pc to my phone's internal storage
.unmount
.back to main menu
.enter install zip from sdcard
.choose zip file from sdcard
.and finally installing the rom successfully!!!
a few days ago i wanted to try another rom and followed the same steps but i got "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)" when trying to mount usb storage. in the other hand i can't format sdcard. i got "unable to mount scdard" error mesage.
did i brick my internal storage?now i installed original rom md5 file with odin. i can see my 11,5gb internal storage. my CWM version is 5.0.2.7. how can i fix this problem???
which version on cmw do you have? 4.x.x.x may have this problem. versione 5.0.0.x solved it for me

**** i thought i was seeing things as i am the same as the OP but this isn't good
Well after panicking and thinking my phone was broke, I found this thread, and flashed a different kernel and all is working again.
At first I thought it was the latest cwm causing a problem as it worked in the previous cwm but it was the kernel causing the "Unable to write to ums..." error

Issues after flashing recovery img

So, I'd gotten as far as installing the zip packages off the SD card, however I accidently unzipped the gapp zip onto the SD card instead of the .zip its self. After rebooting it just kept looping the end of the Cyanogen Mod visual.
The recovery mod im using is the recovery-nozomi.img
I thought it wouldnt be a problem and I could just mount it through the recovery menu, but i get this error:
E:unable to open uns lunfile (no such file or directory)
I've looked around google and the forums but I've not found anything particularly useful to me, I'm fairly new to this.
try to redownload the gapps on your pc, then after downloading connect your phone to pc then power on your phone, then go to recovery, (press volume up when beep) then a menu will appear, go to mount and storage, then go to mount usb storage, now youre on mass memory storage you can now transfer the downloaded gapps then just disconnect your phone (unmounting), then flash the gapps via recovery.

[Q] /data is encrypted, so CWM can't mount /sdcard from zip installing

Hi!
I used to run CyanogenMod 9.1 with device encryption on my Galaxy S3, and decided today that I wanted to try a CM 10 nightly.
A problem with device encryption that I didn't know about before is that it's impossible to turn off. ClockworkMod Recovery (5.8.4.3) can't mount the /data partition (and, by extension, /sdcard). This means that I can't use CWM to factory reset or install a new update.zip, since the update.zip must lie on the internal sdcard.
Trying "choose zip from sdcard" gives "E:Can't mount /sdcard/" and choosing "apply /sdcard/update.zip" gives "E:Can't mount /sdcard/update.zip". This happens even if I've used adb to put the update.zip in the /sdcard mountpoint.
Factory resetting from CWM gives these two errors: "Error mounting /data!" and "Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!". Factory resetting from CM9 didn't work. I've since tried to flash CM10 with MobileOdin, which didn't work, and now I can only boot to CWM.
Does anyone have any idea about how I could mount /data or otherwise get a working ROM? I've taken backups of everything.
TL;DR: S3 only boots to CWM, but CWM won't mount /data and so can't flash zips.
I have the exact smae problem. i hope someone knows how to fix!!
