does anybody have this issue? everytime i set my exposure higher than +1.0, it resets to the default value after focusing, rendering dark pictures.
when i let go the camera button, it restores the image to the high exposure for the preview.
is there any way to bypass this? i'm googling this for some time but found no answer.
thanks!
anyone? i'm losing my hope already
*BUMP*
I also have this problem. And haven't found any fix and other similar problem as of the moment. Just registered so I could reply to this thread.
Anyone have any ideas?
@topic starter
What's your android version anyway?
Well it would seem to be caused by connected accessories (eg. Headset). When you detach the accessory before using the camera, this issue doesn't reappear. It worked for me that way.

but it happens sometimes even when i'm not using any accessory. plugging the headphone and taking it off would fix this issue?

i'mma try this one, but i think it's related to internal configs of the camera. i used camera360, vignette, and some others, all with the same results.
also, plugging the headphones on and off didn't solve the problem.
last night i tried to take a picture of my amplifier, right under the lamp of my bedroom. while previewing, with high exposure so the picture can be bright, it was ok. after focus, it darkens down to a zero exposure and the picture is always saved this way.
it's really sad that such a good camera can't take clear pictures without a perfect light source.
update: using lgcamera, after the autofocus the camera resets the exposure, but the program brings it back again! it's a workaround, but i still want to find out WHY this is happening.

Well, I've had a good look around now and can't find a thing on this so maybe some one can help.
I was at a Rammstein gig the other night and managed to get some awesome video footage.
The only thing that let me down was the auto focus constantly in and out... when it sticks with it..its cristal clear...
looked through the settings, nothing. would be happy with touch to focus, like when taking a pic.
Any thing I can do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
I don't see a way of changing focus on video recording on the stock app, but you can use lgCamera (lgCamcorder) which will let you set fixed focus.

Shame, have taken a look at lgcamera before. Don't think its as nice as the stock.
May I ask why?

Why what? Why Samsung didn't include it in the stock camera app? I think only they know the answer.

No, not why didn't they include it (god only knows why not)
More why can't we "tweak" the apk?
If you turn off full hd 1080p video recording (only use 720p) it doesn't focus in and out like that, and the quality is still very clear
Finaly a workable solution!

Thank you, wasn't aware of this
Will prob use it from now on. Doesn't seem to focus at all. True test will be testing with flashing lights.
Still, no one has managed to answer why we can't mod it?
Hi to all!
I'm having camera issues especially when making night pictures. The pics are very blurry and dark. And it seems like auto focus is not working.
You can see some examples on the site below, seems I'm not the only one having it:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/34345
I'm on .73 FW.
Will flashing a new rom solve my problem (because i think it's sofware related).
Please share your opinion.
Thanks!!
Try a third party app with good camera drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25202932#post25202932
When in low light the AF will be slower and hesitating. This is not unique to Xperia S. Any digital camera using AF(either phase detection or contrast detection) are like this.
This is also why on most digital cameras there is a "AF assist lamp" to help the low-light AF situations.
Try turn the video recording light on and make it the "AF assist lamp".
The focusing capability of the built in app is not that good especially in low light. Scratchling is correct. Use a good third party app and you will see your focusing in low light improve.
LGCamera is very good.
FX Camera Zoom, too.
Shutter sound of camera
I have lost my camera shutter sound eversince updated to .73 FW. I even tried re-installed rom via repair mode when connected to PC companion. After re-installed rom, shutter sound still not working. (Shutter sound "on" option was turned on).
Can anybody help?
Guys just tell me one thing
Is it hardware problem??
I m scared

Downgrade to 0.63 and re install 0.73, with FlashTools.
try holding the shutter button down like how u will do it with a digital camera for it to focus
The problem only occurs in low light!
In day time the phone camera is working like a charm
No problems during the day!!

Similar issues. Stock camera app is a bit dud.
Really..I find the stock camera awesome the only complaint really is the time it can take to focus sometimes but will give that app mentioned a try

Its an interesting idea, maybe with an IR illuminator, but somebody would probably need to write custom drivers for each ccd.

Probably an IR light and a massive driver hack, assuming that our sensor reads IR levels. Still a crazy hack and will probably be hard to switch back and forth.

I have noticed that, when filming in 720p and 1080p, that the video camera has a tendency to lag when panning to the side after it has focused --> After the camera focuses, and I turn the camera to the sides or up/down, it lags for a second, creating a chopping effect (lagging).
I have stock Gingerbread installed on it (it came on it when purchasing the phone), and have not updated to stock ICS yet.
Does anyone else have this, or have noticed this problem? I'd really like to solve this mystery as soon as possible.
Thank you,

Just a suggestion:
Have you already tried to install the S2 Camera update from Samsungs Apps?
This was an update for the camera firmware of the SGS2.
If you have already installed the update, this app will show it right after the installation.
Good luck !
I just updated Samsung Apps, and am now in the program.
I guess this is a known program then, since they have put out an update for the camera...
How do I find the S2 Camera Update?
Thank you for your reply,

you can google for the same r try with Sammobile.com
Lag as you described is not firmware related as I never had it, but you can try.
Also what you can do I'd you are using micro sdcard as storage, change it to internal and check.
Unless issue is frame rates, blur when panning.
I've been looking for a better camera app.
By "better", I am referring to faster/quality. Not instagram and other image manipulation nonsense.
I am also aware that we are limited by hardware, but still there must be something better.
Has anyone found a suitable contender?

The best camera, IMHO, is LG Camera Pro.
Better Camera App
I am using super app LGcamera (there is free version too) and there is available to set these things:
video bitrate (default is 15MBps) i use 20MBps
audio quality is better (FULL HD VIDEO) 96kbps, mono, 48000HZ
you can change your save destination
take a photo while recording a movie
....and more
Hey guys
thanks for the opinion!
I've tried for a while jb+ and I enjoyed it more than the stock one (was faster and minimal UI). I did not enjoy however the way you change settings, it seemed awkward. Also the video recorder does no support 1080. Another thing was the lighting setting, auto mode was rubbish and I had to manually select lighting for each photo.
Starting today, I'll be trying LGcamera.
So far, I'm impressed. It really feels solid and works good.
Video supports 1080 and takes photos at 5MP(stock takes photos at 2MP, I believe)
Focus seems better to.
I'd like to ask you guys:
What settings to you use? (focus, photo mode, light)
Also for video
Thanks!
I'm a fan of the stock Nexus camera app and purchased Camera JB+....works for me.

Those options have terrible video framerates.
CameraJB+, LGCamera, Camera FV-5, give me bad framerates in video. I'm not sure if there's a fix or something but in darker areas like indoors, the exposure doesn't fix so the framerates dip into the single digits. The only thing I want is just timestamped filenames. Is there a modified Stock possibly?

Hey, I see what you mean and I think I can help you.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Get root access to your device (there're plenty of ways)
2. Unzip the attached archive and replace your device's media_profiles.xml with the one from the archive.
To do that, use Root Explorer app and go to /etc. Copy new media profiles and confirm the replacement. Then, don't forget to set the permissions of the new one to rw-r--r--.
3. Restart your device.
Now you have better sound quality in stock app (48000 kHz, 160 kbps) and you have better fps compatibility.
There're several apps for you to use:
a) For better quality and control, you can use FV-5 Cinema app. You should get fixed 30 fps under default settings.
b) As for LGCamera (the one with the older interface, version number around 5.4), you should set fps to 25 and you will get a stable 25 fps, regardless of the lighting.
c) However, if you are using the newer LGCamera (version 7), you'll have to go for a little trick:
Launch the app, and set the fps to 30. Now, go to Setting tab (the last one), select "Edit camera script" and add the following after the existing lines:
preview-fps-range=30000,30000
Now, restart LGCamera app, and you will have stable 30fps performance.
So, there're 3 options for you, choose whichever you like
P.S. I have P765 with the stock firmware from P760, version 20p.
Thanks but

That trick unfortunately didn't make a difference.. All third party apps are still agonizingly laggy. Thanks though, it was worth the shot.
Tried both stock 20A and fulmic 20c 2.0. When taking HD and FHD movie using either rear lens, the camera app will freeze and have to force quit. I track it down to the anti shake mode. So either "Steady+HD" or "Steady+FHD" will crash, using OIS is fine. FHD60 and UHD in either antishake mode are fine though.
Anybody have the same problem or try to reproduce? maybe I have hardware problem because I search and didn't find anything. I'm on T-mobile but i think the camera app should be same across all models...Thx
When does the freezing occur?
After stopping the record or while you are recording? Or when you press the record button?
Sent from my sh!tty LG-H860 that is beyond crap
It froze when I press record. I then has to force quit the camera and when reopen no video is taken. I will see if i can get some logcat going....
Seems like nobody else has this problem? which is puzzling because it seems like a software issue.
Have you tried the hidden menu?
Test your camera there
*#546368#*850#
850 is your model number. If you have a 830 change this to 830

Oh wow thanks for this post. Mine started crashing exactly the same way in the last week. I ran into your post and sure enough, switching to OIS "fixed" the problem.
