This morning I got a notification saying there is a software update available for the EVO 3D. Went to download it and it came back saying there are no updates available. I checked the software number on my phone and it is listed as 2.17.651.5, the new one is 2.89.651.2. Is there any other way to get this update on my phone? It is stock. Thanks!
Did you go to System Updates > HTC software updates? 2.17 is GB and 2.89 is ICS, so since you are stock, you should be able to just take the ota.

Yes, I went into system updates > HTC software updates, then comes back saying no update available. I checked my software and it is still running 2.17 GB so I know it didn't update overnight or something. Just wasn't sure if there is another way to find the update, while still being stock.

It's been a while since I've been stock. If I remember right, the phone should notify you in the status bar of the update after restarting the phone. You can then select the notification and it should run the update.

Correct. And all this happened, minus the actual update....still stuck in 2.17 GB. If you have any other ideas, please let me know!

Keep trying. I was getting the same message this morning (that no update was available), but I just tried the manual update again, and now it tells me there is an update available. My phone is downloading the update. It is 305.76MB in size, so you need a fast connection like wifi to make it go faster.
BTW - the update tells me that I am getting HTC Sense 3.6 along with Android 4.0 so this should be interesting to see.
Good luck!
Jason
Ok, finally getting the update. These are the steps I took to get there:
1) Dial pad: ##72786#
2) Password: 132820
3) Menu > Reset
4) Phone reboots, keep clicking 'ok' while updating firmware, prl, profile, etc.
5) Try to do a software update.
6) If that doesn't work, go into hboot and do a factory reset.
7) Update Profile
8) Update Software
I am now downloading the new software. Thanks to those who gave input!

I just wanted to know if there is anyway I can confirm that I'm back to stock and unrooted... Also will I be able to get the recent update from Verizon now that I returned to stock MR1?

Boot to bootloader and make sure S-on and no custom recovery.
Check rom for Superuser.apk
Make sure baseband matches mr1 baseband.
If bootloader wanted to update immediately, you probably left a radio PG05IMG.zip file on your sdcard. Delete it.
Yes, after returning to stock you should get the OTA. You can manually force a software update to check for OTA too.
after doing the first step, i removed the first pg05img and replaced it with the next steps file...so like i said, it just took an update and completed in seconds. I assume that was the restoring of the original bootloader. No superuser so no more root
I cant restart just yet to check if S is back ON b/c OTA update is taking FOREVER to download....setting up my screens in the meantime. Thanks bro

The first baseband is the OTA MR2 Radio. I'm not sure about the other one.

Hey guys, I followed one of the tutorials on how to unroot your EVO 3D and bring it back to stock. Before I unrooted my phone, I kept getting a notification that an OTA update was available, specifically version 2.08.651.2 (August 18, 2011). Right now, my software number is 1.11.651.2. I want to update to the newer version, but when I go to Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now, it shows no updates are available. I've tried rebooting the phone and checking repeatedly. I'm kinda lost here and not sure what to do. I was wondering if the PG86IMG I downloaded to return to stock disabled OTA updates, but I highly doubt that since it's just a stock image. If I could find a download link to the updates, I could apply them manually through the bootloader. If not, I might suck it up and take my phone into Sprint and get them to see what's up and update my phone there. Either way, what do you think I should do? I want it updated though. Thanks in advance.
so u unrooted using the approved method and then tried to update to 2.3.4 via HTC but it would'nt find the update? Just wanna make sure u know that if u take this update ur only option is to root via HTC's unlocked bootloader which isn't a true unlock... secondly if that is ur desire and the stock image won't find the update then i would check ur source and make sure it's not missing something. I turned off my update check cuz once it checks and finds an update that little icon stays in ur taskbar unless u factory reset and i was waiting to root with teamwin's method so i didn't take the update. if i knew how to pull the image without updating id post it for ya...
Yes sir! I understand that updating my software to version 2.8.651.2 will prevent my phone from being rootable until somebody figures out a method to make it rootable. I have no need for rooting my phone actually. I tried out a few roms, and I would rather stick with a stock unrooted rom in case I ever need to take my phone into Sprint for service. The Sprint store where I live won't do any service to a rooted phone, so I need to be on the safe side. I went to the store today, and unfortunately the only people available at the time were sales representatives, so they were of no help. They just told me to wait and keep trying to update the phone periodically. If it doesn't show any updates within the next month, my only choices will be to either call Sprint and see if they can push the update to my phone or find an update image, transfer it to my phone, and manually update it through the bootloader. I also read on an EVO 4G thread that the phone won't update if it's missing SprintUpdater.apk. I doubt a stock rom would be missing that app though. I had the update notification when I was rooted, but I didn't download it because it would break my root, and now that I'm completely back to stock, I should get the notification. What gives? I wish Sprint would send out the updates all at once instead of in waves. Anybody wanna chime in?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Having the same problem. But i havent tried unrooting the phone.
I just got a notification for an update from HTC. I dont have a data plan with Sprint, and I couldnt find any information on here regarding this update. has anyone else recieved this?
Do you know what the update did?
I see the update too, really curious what it is. HC?
I'm going to wait though, I'm rooted and don't want to do a OTA update
Seems like it was an update to fix a tracking security issue?

I also cannot update. It downloads, and reboots the device. After the reboot, there's an android bot, and a triangle encased exclamation point.

Need to revert to Stock RUU and then do the update(s) once done the do root process again
In case you need the zip 1.22.651.1
OTA_Express_Sprint_WWE_1.22.651.1-1.18.651.1_release_198260xikterg48lc0snx1.zip
New Update-Security Patch 1.22.651.2
OTA_Express_Sprint_WWE_1.22.651.2-1.22.651.1_release_220183oqo49zm8mw3kfeuv.zip
Odd it shows 2.1 not 3.0
Couple of quick questions here. Is the first files you linked an update and then the second one is a patch to that one? Also reverting to the ruu won't undo to the s-off setting? Is this correct?

Correct first 1 is Update then patch and you will need to do root process again.. But 1st you need to use RUU to get into stock to allow updates to occur.
You can also try to flash VIA recovery, been told it works that way to without having to go stock then reroot. The bookmarkwidget3D was the only glitch that I found, its not in the update.
When the OTA was released, I took my stock unlocked and rooted Rezound and did an RUU on it. I relocked it and RUU'd and made it completely stock.
I then took the OTA. I watched it do it, it downloaded and went into some sort of recovery mode and installed it.
I then re-unlocked it, rooted it, installed Amon Ra and then debloated and set it up. I did NOT restore a Nandroid on this phone.
And now every morning my phone is downloading the OTA and wanting to install it. If I say defer it tells me I can't. If I tell it OK, it doesn't do anything and tomorrow it will try to do it again.
What gives?
Did this phone take the update or not?
My guess is no. Go into more info on the screen that you have above.
Build starts with 1 no update.
Build starts with 2 OTA update
Build starts with 3 you took one of the early ICS Roms

I guess that means no? I suppose I should just RUU with the new OTA version, rather than the original and try to get the OTA to take?

You have many paths in front of you my friend, depends on where you want to go.
It appears that you are original stock still, rooted with recovery.
Not sure what went wrong. You might want to check for a PH98IMG.zip file on root. Delete it, causes issues with HTBOOT and bootloader.

Didn't even look at the screenshots, but it took me downloading the update twice for it to completely update it. I did the exact same process, but noticed when it rebooted the first time it didn't complete the update because I checked right away and my radios didn't update. I downloaded it again and the second time it flashed everything properly.
So from what I can gather, the OTA was fairly buggy process for alot of people. That's why I even checked prior to unlocking and rerooting again. I wanted to make sure it worked properly.

Yeah, seems like the best way to do it is to just grab the latest RUU and install that and call it a day. No having to worry about it taking, it already includes the latest radio and stuff.
How do you tell what radio your phone is running??

Edit: NVM, I found the info
[I will not have access to my home computer for a while... obviously would be much easier just seeing stuff on there]
I recently fouled things up with my phone and just decided to start over. I thought I flashed fireball 2.17... with the latest stock Sense 4.1, but I recently noticed that if I went to software update, I was asked if I wanted the 2.17.605.2 OTA update from last fall.
I did try to install it to see what would happen and it did not complete -- when it tried to reboot my phone, it launched straight into my recovery (TWRP) and from there I did a regular system reset and was back to my phone with the update still not having run.
Anyway, now I'm confused. Am I correct that this image and this image do not seem to match up? In other words, how do I have global mode in Sense 4.0??
Or is there a ROM out there that I could have flashed that would account for this?
Honestly, I don't even care that much about 4.0 vs. 4.1. And I only rooted my phone in the first place so I could make a few minor tweaks like the three button remap, etc. Mainly I just want to make sure I'm really still getting whatever supposed "improved LTE and wi-fi connectivity" benefit came with the OTA upgrade to 4.1 last fall.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks...

No takers on this?
Maybe it's just too stupid. But I still don't get why I have global mode in what apparently looks like Sense 4.0.
How did you flash this?, I mean what method did you use to go back like you said, I can imagine you flashed the 4.0.3 ruu and then received the update then failed

Did not use ruu.
Pretty sure this is what I flashed -- http://d-h.st/trx -- I checked and still have that zip sitting in my "Android-stuff" folder on my desktop.
Also pretty sure I had global mode immediately after flashing (I noticed the global setting available that day while getting all my preferences reset and before I had even noticed the available OTA or attempted to let it run).

Is global mode not supposed to be in 4.0? Possibly a dumb question but just asking... And I got a new device off of warranty replacement and it is completely stock. Haven't messed with anything yet, just disabled pointless apps that I will not be using yet. It does have Global Mode. When my LTE wasn't working for quite sometime, I had called Verizon and told them "what happened' and they used it to update my PRL. Anyway on topic, I think global mode is officially from Verizon.

When the phone first came out last summer, it shipped with Sense 4.0 / Android 4.03 (without global mode available even though the phone was technically capable).
Verizon / HTC pushed an OTA update about four months later that upgraded phones to Sense 4.1 / Android 4.04 (with global mode available).
Not sure if they ship with the upgrade already running now or whether they still ship with original build and then receive the OTA shortly after activation.

Ahh okay.
Simply revert to a system only restore in recovery.
Once booted into bare stock, go to mobile network settings and select LTE option.
