You need to flash a custom recovery and then flash Superuser from the custom recovery. I've been using 4EXT recovery and SuperSU.

I don't know why. But I have tried over and over. I have used HTC Super Root tool... it says I gained root...I open root checker app...says I have not gained root...the tool did install superuser.
I factory reset....
I try rooting with superoneclick. It says I gained root. It installed super user. I go open root checker...it tells me I don't have root...
Please anyone help me. I can't gain root and I don't know why... I need help asap...
Thanks in advance...

I was in the same position last night then I flashed cwm recovery on to the phone via fast boot then used cwm recovery to flash the latest super user the phone, and ta da rooted ICS
I also have Hboot 1.53.0007 with S-off

man i tried and tried i just cant do it it sucks
Hello Guys!
First of all, i wanna apologize. I know this thread might be rude because im noob but i need my phone in 2 days (since i got trip to france)
Im on GSM Evo 3d Hboot 1.53. I tried to flash King Cobra ICS rom. I got bootloops. I tried to fix it as here on htcevohacks site using DumLock . It havent helped. I was using 4ext recovery and i think it is a problem. Now i changed my recovery to CWM Revolutionary. When i reboot (or boot) my phone normally or after restore of my normal room it boots up with 4ext recovery. What should I do?
Thanks very much for your help! i Need this damn phone!
Can you access the recovery?
Are you s-on or s-off?
If you're s-on, then go into 4ext recovery and enable smart flash, then flash a working custom rom (plenty of them out there)
Do the same if you're s-off, just don't enable smart flash
Remember to wipe all the normal partitions before flashing, this will wipe all your data though

Since this is an emergency, I recommend you flash a Gingerbread Rom since those seem to flash better with s-on phones. Use 4ext and set it to s-on mode. Then flash a GB Rom like leedroid or mwakious.

Good to know. I'm CDMA, so I learn about Gsm from the Gsm people.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
1. Download CoolExe's ROM
2. Copy boot.img from that ROM into your adb folder
3. Install ROM trough cwm
4. Reboot into Fastboot and use
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
5. Reboot.
This worked for me, after unlocking (htcdev) and installing cwm on 1.53.007 hboot.

You can root but if you 're interested in jb roms u 'll have to downgrade the hboot
And its pretty easy to downgrade hboot once you achieve soff.
