Having a heck of a time doing it. I have a new 64 GB card, I'm on the 8/7 CM9 Nightly, and I cannot get it to work. I'm getting a broken card message, try reformatting, and after the reformat it still does not read. Any thoughts?
Found an older Gingerbread mobile laying around and finally formatted the card so I can read it in my CM9 Note. However when I try to drag and drop from a PC I get: disk is write protected. Remove the write protection or try another disk.
Never had so much trouble with a card. Thoughts?
Desperation mode. I'm at loss, I can copy from them just not write to them.
Are you dragging from PC to phone ? or PC to Card slot on the PC ?
If you are using the PC to PC method, you may have a write protection switch on your micro SD card adapter.
check the adapter on the front left side, for a small slider switch that is moved with your fingernail.
If the switch is in the lock position, it will write protect the card by changing the pin out setting while the card sits in the adapter...
If going PC to phone....I do not know.....g

I am hoping someone could answer this question since nobody has never asked before. I bought a Kingston 32GB micro sdhc card. The model number is SD-C02G made in Taiwan. When I popped in the card into the tablet, it says the card is damaged, formatting is needed. I tried to click on the format button and nothing happened. But, when I test the card on other devices (cell phone & camera & computer), it had no problems at all. No formatting or anything was needed. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to get this fixed?
I am running vegan tab 5.1.1 by the way.
Thanks a lot!

did you try to format using ur PC in Fat32?
nvm...problem is fixed now. i found out that the memory card was loose probably. Didnt come into full contact with all the pins. Thank you for your reply anyway.
I had the same issue with my new 16 gig card, I let the gtab format it, then rebooted with the card installed, have had no issues for 2 weeks now, card is full of movies and everything works like a champ!
Ok got my sandisk 32GB card from Amazon. I put it in the Gtab but couldn't format the card. Put it on my mac and saw it wasn't formatted at all so I formatted it. No go on the Gtab again... said I need to reformat but the Gtab wouldn't do it. I tried windows to format Fat32 with fast off but kept crashing during format (only showed 27Gb BTW). Searched around and came across windows based program from Panasonic/official micro sd standards site (sdformatter V3). Ran this program selecting all wipe options. The program took 5 days! Successfully finished this morning with correct fat32 so I thought all was well connected to both mac and windows I cant get files to transfer onto the card. I set up a couple media folders but once I start the file transfer it will give me error: improper disk ejection and still show folders. On windows I can get a few files to the card before I get ether "file is corrupt" or I can see that the transfer has stopped and I can see its lost connection between windows and SD card. Did I get a bad card or is there anything I can try here? BTW after that long and painful format Gtab could recognize the SD and I could see the folders I was able to make on the card.
Update:
Now a pop up window for fixing the card has come up on windows once I connected the card reader. I checked the 2 options "Auto fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" has been running for 10min and progress bar is half way. hope it fix my problem!
kraftweksfit,
The 32 gig cards have worked back to the beginning as far as I have ever heard.
My opinion, but if it were my card I would return it and ask for one that is not defective.
When you get a good one, make sure it is formatted (on your PC) to FAT32. I also
have found the USB port and card slot are not plug and play like Windows. I
always change them while the G-Tablet is off to all it to search and find them on startup.

Thanks for that info. I had to shut everything down as my workday was over so now after those 2 windows fixes ran I'm just getting everything back up now at home. So Ive got multiple 2GB movie files to transfer. I still get the random "explorer is not responding" freeze issue on file transfers though. Should I just keep reformatting the card to see if it will fix the issue? Or give up on it and wipe and send it back?
trojan, I've got a question. have you tried putting more than 2 gb on the card? I can't seem to find a 32 gb version of the SD-C02G. Also have you done any speed tests on it?

That Panasonic tool is a favorite over in headfi-org - I've been using the older version for years and it actually works on a Windows VM. We used to use it on our Cowon D2 to ensure that our SDHC cards were being read properly.
For v2, if you do a quick format it should not take that long.

So you think the card just needs to be reformatted again? If so I'll try the quick option. When that program took so long I thought for sure something was wrong. BTW all references to windows are on VM on my mac as well.
Should I be worried that my Gtab can't format the card? I'm on Vegan 5.1
thanks
UPDATE:So I ran the quick option of SDformat V3 with no problems, was able to transfer one 2GB movie no problem. I went to try to move more files and instantly the progress bar for transfer does not move, "more details" tab shows est. time calculating... so my guess is windows explorer lost connection with the card. also every time I eject the card/reader windows want to fix errors which I've already run so I think this card is dead!
Bad SanDisk is on it way back, after browsing amazon I came across a Kingston 32GB micro sd with adapter class 4 for 39.99 + shipping. I went for the store front offering for 41.99 + 9.98 shipping. Best price I can find for a quality card if anyone is looking for one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QQKI0G
Folks,
I don't claim to be an expert on the microiSD card, but there are some things
that need to be said -- and if I don't get it all or get it right then other folks
need to jump in.
1. Care always need to be taken putting your microSD card in and out. Not
only is it small and fragile, but the slot is small as well. You sometimes may
have to use your fingernail or something else thin to ease it far enough in
against the spring to get it to "click" into place. Same thing in reverse for
removal.
2. YOU CANNOT JUST PLUG AND UNPLUG THE FULL SIZE USB STUFF IN ANDROID.
They are not "Plug and Play" like Windows. I don't know the final word, but on
the full size USB port -- when I put in a USB key -- I always shut down, plug it in,
then reboot.
The miniUSB you use to your PC is a little more flexible, but that's another
post for another time.
3. You can use the microSD for recovery, but you have to edit the recovery
command file to point to /SDCARD2. When you boot standard recovery, Android
checks the internal memory for a recovery/command and update.zip presence.
If it does not find them, the it looks for a microSD external card and if it finds it
then it checks for recovery/command and update.zip file there.
4. Different ROMS have different capabilities with regard to finding and using the
USB ports. You'll have to research that -- or maybe someone will fill in that
blank here.
I hope this helps. I know this is not all the info on /SDCARD2 -- but I hope it
get the discussion going to help those having problems.

Good Topic! May want to add mention that /SDCARD2 does not normally mount to your PC when the tablet is connected for file transfers (I've seen that question 3 or 4 times in the past few days). There are some apps that allow it but I've run into some serious issues with a couple of them up to and including corruption of the internal memory.
#2 - the large USB port... I'm not an expert on this either but I do have two flash drives that will not mount if they're inserted with the tablet off. They do work fine when inserted with it on. So there is at least some level of auto-detect and mount going on I'm just not sure to what degree. It is on the list for further study. I would definitely err on the side of caution on this one with regards to anything containing important data.
#3 could be expanded to include or link to a how to on making your own recovery/utility MicroSD (another thread?). This could really save some folks some time and anguish.
+1 placeholder
+2 placeholder.
I won't bump it again. Just want those who need this to have the opportunity to
read it.

If SDCARD2 does not mount to your PC, how do you get the PC to recognize it so that you can store media files from your PC? Thanks!

If I understand your question correctly, you must get a standard sd holder for your micro sd (usually comes with the micro, but not always), and then you need a card reader with a usb plug to go into your computer.
snarful,
Yes. In my case an adapter came with the microSD card and I have a card reader
on my PC -- so I'm good to go.
But if you are going to do much with the cards, it really helps and speeds things up.

So I rooted and flashed XtrSense, and thought it would be great if I had a large micro SD card. So I picked up a 32gb card off ebay. Now my first problem is I'm not sure if its a real 32gb or just a 8gb that someone hacked to make it show as 32gb, but thats beside the point for right now.
I've always had a problem when I plug my phone into my computer over usb, where if I move the cable just one bit, it disconnects then reconnects quickly then says that the device would preform faster in a USB 2 slot (all of mine are USB 2).
Unfortunately this happened when I was transferring music and when I unplugged from the computer it said my SD card had errors. I used the prompt to format it, and my card worked fine for a while.
Well that same scenario happened again last week and for some reason I decided to format it using Amon recovery. Now I'm afraid my SD card is corrupt because when I start my phone it says the card is blank or has an unrecognized filesystem. Whenever I try the format option the phone gives, it does nothing. Any ideas?
I can't help you with the formatting issue (try formatting FAT32 through windows?), but I have had the USB intermittent connection problem. Easily solved by using a standard usb cable or charger (not the modified one provided by HTC) and using a small stylus to bend the shorter of the two long sides of the plug slightly outward.
Thanks for the tip on the cord! I'll try that as soon as I find my cord.
And I can't format the card in windows because windows doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged in
And just for clarification you mean the bottom on this picture?
__________
\----------/
|_______|
^^^^^^^
Can you format it through a card reader? Also, can't you format it through the settings | storage settings menu?
Yes, the bottom where you have the carats. there's usually a seam right in the middle that is easily bent. don't bend too hard or far. just a fraction of a centimeter will tighten up the connection
__________

Going through settings and selecting format does nothing. I click the button and it still says its a blank or unsupported filesystem

if the phone reformatted it then it should be blank.
now mount it to the computer and put what you want on it
You did it wrong in amon_ra. Reformat in amon but this time set first two settings to zero and the remainder fat32. Hope this helps.
DINC¦CM7¦SLAYHER27
So I followed your response and wiped EXT on sd then partitioned it with both settings=0 but I still get the same error message: "sd blank or unsupported filesystem"
EDIT: So I tried to do it in command prompt and it said unrecognized disk label. So i tried to change it but whatever I type it says invalid token
Edit 2: And by command prompt I mean IO installed android adb and foolowed a guide online to try and format my SD card that way
You may try this step by step guide that helped me before: recover data from corrupted SD card
hope this helps.
I recently upgraded my memory card on my Streak to a 32gb class 10.
When trying to put files (pictures and videos) on the card via the USB cable the files appear to have been copied okay, but when trying to access the files on the Streak they are either missing or corrupted.
I reformatted the card in the Streak and tried again. This had the same effect.
I transferred some files via skydrive and they worked fine. But the next time a accessed the card via USB, the files disappeared again, even though I didn't access the folder in question.
This is the second card I have tried, so I assume that the card is not the problem.
I'm running stock 2.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What OS are you using?
Even though the file copy may appear complete it may not be. Make sure you use whatever steps are appropriate for your OS to eject or unmount the SD card after copying.
Using Win 7 x64...
I'll have another go and let you know.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I've tried again making sure that I've selected Turn off USB storage from the handset and safely eject from the PC. It still happens.
The strange thing is that it even affects folders that I didn't access whilst connected to the PC (it either empties or deletes the folders).
Totally stumped on this. Could it be a problem with the card? If so, has anyone used a 32gb card that works that they can recommend?
You have tried at least 2 cards, but have you tried a different PC. Is it possible you may have "something" running on the PC causing this.

Make sure that you do those in the correct order. Safely remove from PC first, then turn off USB storage on the phone.
If you can read the card with no problems make a backup and then format the card in the phone. I have seen a lot of cases (and not just with Streaks) where issues were caused by using a card that had not been formatted while in the phone.
Where did you buy the card from? I ask because this sounds a lot like the symptoms you see with faked cards that are really much smaller than the 32GB they claim.

Hmm. I got it from Ebay. It does show as 31.2gb in windows.
This is the second card I've had from this supplier (I sent the first back because of the problems with the streak as listed above). As I had the same probs with the 2nd card I assumed the device must be at fault.
Are you sure the card is legit? you should hook it up to a card reader and loading +20gb of data and seeing if it's good
I tried transferring a load of files to the card and it stopped after about 3gb. Some of the folders were empty.
I tried reformatting in windows and noticed it was FAT32. The card will not format as NTFS.
I guess this means that the card is duff?
it definitely sounds like you got a fake, those are classic signs it's a fake
Hi everyone,
after 1 year expericing with evo 3d everything is ok,
but in the last month some problems are killing me.
1- when i put the usb connection to download image, after i get sd error and cant see any images from gallery. (files are visible with android assistan, visible after rebooting, tried different cables, different sd, the system doesnt sees anymore images of applications, maybe some refresh problem?)
2- when i turn off the screen and connected to wifi or datamobile, both turn off till i turn on the screen, its a very annoying problem...
3- also the music application cant find my mp3 folder with music.
4- when i open gmail at first it says "no data connection", even if i'm connected, and clicking refresh works. (but i have to click everytime!!!,,,,
5- today i got also a strange grey icon of the battery with an ? on it, first time ever seen it.
other miscellanea information:
the phone is all original, i'm using apex launcher instead of sense, there is a lot of free space on sd, the phone never fell on the floor, nor in the water. camera is working great and all other function, no lag in applications,,
i hope some of you great xda master can help me finding a solution,
thanks to all.

ps. does exist an application that cancel all unused application files in the sdcard? thanks again.
1 and 3 sound like a bad sd card or card reader in the phone. The rest sound like an OS bug, which a factory reset should hopefully clear up.

What do you mean "cancel?"
thanks for the answer,
i guess is the sd card, il try a factory reset. the new sd card that caused problem is a samsung 16 gb cas 6, i thoght it was good.
i mean wipe the garbage, like all those files left behind from applications uninstalled and no longer used.
thanks again.

Well, normally when you connect the USB cable and choose to connect the USB storage then the SD card becomes unavailable to the phone but the computer can then access it. Both the computer and the phone cannot access the SD card at the same time... I will spare you the technical reasons but you should know that this is normal. After you are done copying files with the computer then you must turn off this USB storage mode so the phone can access the SD card again and then it will see all your music and pictures again (all these are stored on your card by default).
This should all be fixed OK by a reboot of the phone though in any case. Are you sure you rebooted the phone completely? maybe you should try to remove the battery once?
If you've done all that then you can try to repair the SD card by taking it out of the phone and using micro sd to SDHC adapter and inserting it directly into a computer then using windows to run a chkdsk on it.
hi,
i've done all you said properly, you know the problem came out because there was a differente behavior than in the past.
i remove securely the phone from pc and then is not accessible,
i didn't tried to chdsk the sdcard i'll try, but it sounded strange to me because its brand new.
i also tried to contact htc , they said " try to reboot, or try to remove the battery and the sd and start the phone again, the problem wasnt gone.
thanks for the advice.

Well if it's just gotten corrupted then you can just reformat the sd card. You'll want to backup all your data first so if you can't do that from the USB connection to the PC then you'll need to insert it directly into a pc. Once you've formatted it you can put your backed up data back on the card and put it back in the phone and after a while it will find your mp3s again. If it's truly a bad sd card then the reformat won't help.
Do you have another sdcard? The one that came with the phone or any other? Try putting some mp3s and photos on it and then put that in your phone. If your phone recognizes the photos and mp3s then maybe your current sdcard is the problem. And can you tell the the format of your sdcard? Is it NTFS or exFAT or FAT32? If it is UHS-1 card there is a good chance that it is in exFAT. To make it work on Evo 3d, convert it to FAT32 .
