This was posted on the Evo 4G forums and is kind of old news, but for those who didn't know: You can get a free Airave from Sprint by calling retentions at (877)775-4886 and complaining you have bad service in your house. I have horrid service in my apartment so I'm barely on my phone here, just called them up and told them about it. They offered me a free Airave and told me that it would be here in 7-10 days since it's backordered. Thought I'd share.
Something to keep your mind off of S-Off for a little while
Edit: Hey, I'm happy people are still getting free airaves since I posted this. It's definitely worth it if you live in a apartment or basement with no service.
Also, I wanted to post my stand up video from last friday, let me know what you guys think.

Sweet thanks man, that's news to me.

Yep, signal here has degraded over the years to the point where it bounces back and forth from Sprint to roam. Told Sprint this and they sent me one free with free service without hesitation.

Sweet. Question: I've tried a few attempts at making my bill smaller, last rep I talked to applied a 25$ credit to the account which he said was for nothing basically. Didn't say it was continuing my contract or anything just "funsies" basically.
Would complaining about my signal strength, which is abismal, look suspicious? I was planning on calling about the credit for staying with them another 2 years. Hey, jobless and getting ready for college, I need all the spare change I can get! Lol

I think you should let everyone know that it requires an internet connection to work.
So, if you have internet, connect your phone via wifi.
Then create a free sip account and recieved phone calls over wifi at full signal.
Never miss a call again. No rave either, and your sprint neighbors can't steal your rave reception on your internet either.
No wonder sprint give them out for free, they benefit anyone that connects to it.

Yes that is why they hand them out so freely. They are trying to get their customers to improve their "backhaul". Especially since several parts of the country are having outages and crowded towers. With the Airwave all you're getting from that 3G is your own internet, which doesn't really help if you can use WiFi already.
BUT you can filter the Airwave so it doesn't let any other phones connect to it other than yours.
service is terrible at my house..i have tried calling before with no luck.. i might try this number over the weekend...do they waive the monthly fee as well?
Yes just got one last week bit need a wifi router bc it dumbed down my internet using the two ports off of it so I'm run it off a router instead strait from modem
Sent from my PG86100-EVO3D-using Tapatalk
Yeah... DONT USE IT AS A ROUTER. It suggests that in the instructions... but it sucks a a router... a lot. (Works fine connecting it through another router)

They waive the monthly fee but you do use your minutes when using the device. If you pay the monthly fee, you don't use your minutes when using the device.

Hi guys I just switched to sprint from att. I have spent some serious time researching this question but have come up with conflicting answers and honestly coming from att I just cant quite wrap my head around this. could someone tell me if I can get verizon 3g data on my e3d? I have the unlimited plan and live in a roaming area but verizon 3g signal is quite strong if this is possible could someone please point me in the right direction? thank you.

What? CALL THEM AND ASK. they will cancel your account if you use too much roam data in consecutive months
sent from my EVO 3D via XDA app
It's risky...you can force roaming onto a Verizon tower a few different ways but if you push around 300-500mb of data roaming for around 3 consecutive months Sprint all cancel you from their service without letting you know ahead of time.

I had to juggle between the two towers at Fort Sam. One month Verizon, the next Sprint. It's a hassle, but it kept me within my limits.

Just get an airrave for your house and you most likely won't go over the data... Good news is that if you consistently go over sprint will let you out the contract.... They offered that to me after I told them I live in a roaming area.... The offered the airrave or an out of my contract.

If you do this, are the ESNs on the phones marked as bad? I'm guessing they are... but curious. Sprint is giving me the biggest run around ever with constant poor service, dropped calls, slow data, etc... I'm in a metro area as well, it's ridiculous.
I feel your pain. Same story here. I'm also interested in how this works, haha.

I'd go month to month and buy a phone off contract with Verizon . But I don't have faith in this network vision of theirs. Sure it's state of the art. But it's also Sprint and not one tower is complete yet in Florida according to S4GRU..But I'd come back if it's as good as they say it is. I have my doubts.

I love it. Guys are so thirsty for high speed data, but once they it get, they're realize the only true benefits are HD video streaming I'm glad with Sprints 3g in the North of Boston market I could pretty much do what I want to do with my phone besides streaming videos. And with Verizon's cap you're pretty much only guaranteed 3 movies per cap. No thanks I'm all set.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Not looking for High speed data as much as I'm looking for data that doesn't drop to 1x constantly and can play my Google Music with out stopping every 20 seconds when I'm on the road.. Not looking to stream HD movies but I would like to actually watch a YouTube clip from time to time when I'm not on Wifi and not see "buffering".... But it's all pointless anyways because I'm going to see what the Hell Sprint is going to do. I've delt with them this long. I'll give em till June.

yea ive been with sprint for 8 yrs. Never tried any other carrier 800min is sprints cap on roaming voice service, Im lookin at verizon and trying to figure out what is there best phone. I currently have the Evo LTE and my wife has the GS3.
Is your ESN bad now? Or can you resell your phone.
You should find out which network you are roaming on, and hope their plans are not too steep.
You can use the app Not Roam Control from the play store to figure out which network you are roaming on.

Without coverage unlimited data is pointless. TMobile doesn't even cover the entire interstate corridors in my area. And missing an entire decently sized city.

Just go Verizon and be done with it.. Either pick up the galaxy s3 off contract or the iPhone 5 and go month to month. Then when/if something big drops this winter for Verizon you can sign a contract and get the phone you want subsidized.
I'd go with iPhone 5 so I know I'm going to get back at least 80% of my money when I'd sell it for what ever Android device Verizon gets soon.

They actually sent me a letter and I'm, again, very unsure if how to proceed. You see, I have had every iteration of the "evo" moniker with sprint. I've always had stellar service inside my house and out into my neighborhood going back to my og EVO on wimax and even further to my mogul... The reason I feel like I got punched in the gut...? I haven't freaking moved! So, to review, 6 years in the same spot with relatively great service -get the 4g lte -2 months later im sent a warning letter explaining basically I better stop roaming or I will be dropped as a customer (of 11 years btw). Best part: (wait for it)...Live in gf has an S3 (sprint) And hasn't roamed and sits on LTE all day... It's times like these I feel like I have to be part of a f*/??g twighlight zone episode. Wish I could help but I don't have a clue what to do about my own similar situation..
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
yea i think i may go with verizon and get the gs3 along with my wife. Then if they get the note2 i can sell my gs3, sprint gs3, and Evo Lte. To get the note2.:good: plus id only be paying 15 dollars more a mo. but with the faster service and more coverage i think its worth it.
So lemme get this straight. You can buy a subsidized phone. Get kicked off your contract. Then you get to kelp your phone?

Well I guess I'm next. Me & almost everybody in my area. Sprint's service has been horrible these last couple weeks. I roam over half the time. Can't tell you how many dropped calls or unable to make calls or how many unable to send messages or the double, triple sometimes 6 or 7 duplicate messages I get when I finally do get service. I know this area is due to get LTE soon but something has to give. And all I get from Sprint is "We aren't seeing any outages in your area" instead of just saying we're working on the towers. Kinda wish they would kick me off. Might be time to change up.

This happened to me for over 3 weeks and I had made several calls to CS but to no avail. I was just about to head into the sprint store and demand an s3 or no ETF when I canceled my contract. After my final call, just before I was headed to my car I noticed that I had 4g lte.

Im not really concerned with 4g per se. I'm wanting to go ATT but really feel the phone I want is the Nexus 5 based on the rumors. I like my evo 4g because of its camera. Honestly right now it is plenty fast for everything. In running meanbean on it and there doesn't appear to be anything I can't handle just fine.
I hate sprints service so I flashed the Verizon prl and after putting 5gb on it this week I should be getting terminated before too long.
ill need a service to jump on and Verizon's month to month is $70 with 2gb. That should be plenty for me. ATTs month to month sucks and I dont care for their phones right now. My goal is the Nexus 5 anyway. I'd rather just use verizons monthly with my current phone. Just depends how things work out. I also get 22% off Verizon plans so hoping that translates to a good deal.

The problem is getting Verizon's system to recognize a Sprint phone. You can take GSM phones from carrier to carrier because all you have to do is transfer the SIM card, but that doesn't work with CDMA carriers since there's no SIM card. You'd actually have to get Verizon to provision a Sprint phone for their system, and somehow I don't see them doing that.

Call verizon customer service tell them you want to open a prepaid account and port the phone and they will help you. See the only real difference between the verizon 4g phones and sprint are the lack of sim card and imei. But you can still program it to work on verizons network. All customer service agents aren't the same by the way. So if one doesn't know how to help you then another one will and you will get your phone on their. Also if you take a look in this same section this really cool guy wrote a guide on flashing a evo 4g lte to verizon prepaid.

That was my point. Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA providers and it's not as simple as just swapping out the SIM like you can do when you move from one GSM provider to another (e.g. AT&T to TMobile).
