Agh!
I recently rooted my SGH-I777, flashed it using Clockword Mod Recovery, and then rebooted into recovery using CWM. But instead of rebooting into the recovery menu, everything went black. Now my phone won't reboot into recovery mode at all (not even with the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power combo). Instead, it gives me the Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 startup screen with the yellow triangle and then the screen goes all black, with quick flashes of dark gray.
When I removed the battery (to get it out of the black screen loop), returned the battery to the device, and plugged it in (without powering up the phone), the "charging" screen with the charging battery indicator flashed on the screen for a moment, and then back to all black flashes.
I removed the battery, SD card, and SIM card for about 20 minutes because I've read that can sometimes help. No dice.
I'm running ICS 4.0.3 with a Siyah 3.4.2 kernel.
This is probably either really bad or no big deal and I'm lame for not figuring it out, but... HELP! (Please? :fingers-crossed: ) I know this has been asked, but the other threads I've found have been able to get to recovery mode, whereas I can't seem to get to that point.
If you need any other info, let me know!

The phone is not even entertaining the idea of giving me a menu of any sort at this point. Just all black screens. Super frustrating.

No d/l mode, no CWM. = brick.
no offense but im pretty sure your just not holding the buttons right.
CWM= hold both vol, then hold power, let the first screen blink once, come back, then let off power is my trick.
download, you can just hold vol buttons and insert USB belive.

A-ha! Ok, so definitely no on the CWM combo, but I do get a menu using DL mode. Thank you. Seeing at least a menu made me feel much better.
I re-flashed the initial kernel, but no change. Still stuck in perpetual black screen boot loop.
I'm not opposed to doing a full-fledged wipe using Odin, if that's an option, but I've never looked into it before, and I'm currently feeling pretty gun shy when it comes to getting creative with any new tricks.

If you want stock, flash a stock ROM, or stock with root, with Odin.
If you want custom, after you flashed that custom kernel, you CAN get into CWM and flash a custom ROM.
and NEVER use ROM manager, hell it was a joke when it came out, sorry koush
EDIT:
and if you do go custom, dont forget to wipe data/factory reset in CWM before flashing.

You rock. Thank you a ton for being so patient!!
To any other fool who gets into the same mess, I went into DL mode (volume up + volume dwn + usb attached) and opted to let this do the rest of the work because it was the only option that didn't give me a heart attack: androidarea51.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii/samsung-galaxy-sii-(sgh-i777)-att-only/
From there, I had the option of rebooting, initializing a factory reset... all of the menu options I wasn't seeing when I couldn't figure out how to get into CWM mode. Good luck!!

I know, I know (and this is a dumb excuse, much like using rom manager in the first place), but the tutorial I was reading made it seem like it was a good option. I hadn't used it in forever and logic coupled with faith in a perpetually broken system paves the road to hell, but I figured, "There's no way it still sucks as badly as I remember!"
Don't think that. Ever. My mistake.

Samsung Galaxy s2 i-777 does not turn on
okay so I read through this thread and I still don't know how to fix my issue. I rooted my phone using Odin v 1.85 and used siyah 3.4.2. I did it successfully and everything was good. I then gave the phone to my cousin and he said he performed a factory reset to get rid of everything on the phone ( contacts ,etc). Now when I turn on the phone it shows the samsung galaxy display with the triangle and then the screen goes black and just blinks. It still goes back into download mode I just dont know what to do to fix the problem. I know I'm a noob but please HELP!!!

Have you tried flashing back to stock using odin? BTW it is not good etiquette to necro a thread that has been dormant for almost 9 months.

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.
OP: not saying thats what has happened to you as you dont say if you have the i9100 or not, hopefully you do.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway
Like subject says, all i can do is get to download mode with a jig. When i plug it into the pc windows shows a gadget serial device, but heimdall and odin won't work. ADB doesn't show any devices plugged in. What can i do?
You could provide more information if you want someone to help.
What exactly did you do to try to get into recovery mode? And what were the results?
If the jig works, then it is probably a bad port, bad cable, or driver issue.
all i can do is try the 3 button combo which fails. all it does is show the s2 logo and go black. i have a epic 4g touch which loads up fine on the same port, same cable. Do the ATT ones use different drivers?

The driver is apparently OK, but it could still be a variety of things, including the cable, or the microusb port on the phone. Sounds like it might be something different though. But how to trouble shoot the issue without knowing anything about the phone?
We need to know everything you can possibly tell us about the phone. How long have you had it? What was installed on it? What did you do to it just before it failed? What were the symptoms when it failed? And probably a thousand other questions. Tell us everything you can think of.
well its not my phone so i don't know much. It crashed about 3 weeks ago so i don't remember all the details. I know it was running cm7.2 when it suddenly rebooted, the launcher kept FCing repeatedly. the 3 button combo for recovery didn't work, so i put it in download mode and used ADB to flash something, i forgot what it was, but that failed, and now the 3 button combo for download mode doesn't work either. The Jig enables download mode, but the device doesn't seem to show up right in windows.

Well, then I probably can't help you much. Don't know much about problems with CyanogenMod as I've never used it. You don't even remember what you flashed, but whatever it was it probably included a bootloader for a different phone since your button combination stopped working right after flashing. Maybe someone else can give you some help. Unless you can connect to Odin or Heimdall, you can't use the normal route of flashing back to stock.
I'm not even convinced that you have the SGH-I777 model phone, because our phone doesn't use three buttons to get into download mode.

It sounds like your drivers are incorrect. Try downloading the Android sdk and downloading the driver from there.
If that doesn't work then I recommend using Heimdall since it uses its own drivers.

Unless you have a skyrocket, which is also an AT&T S2 but has very little in common with the 777.
i have the sdk, and i tried heimdall with its own driver, didn't work. I'll try it in linux and see what happens
Like others have pointed out and asked... MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE that you have the sgh-i777 Galaxy S2 and NOT the sgh-i727 Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
Open up the battery cover, remove the battery, look at the sticker underneath and look at the MODEL #
This may JUST SAVE YOUR phone before you flash something more that will PERMENTLY RUIN IT...

First, don't give up and don't throw your $500 phone away.
Seeing the I9100 logo and splash screen with yellow triangle is expected behavior, caused by flashing a modified kernel, which is what you did to root.
As already suggested, the first thing to try is to enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. You enter recovery by holding all three buttons, volume + & - and power down continuously. If this doesn't work, there's more wrong than just flashing the zedomax I777 modified kernel.
Don't hold your breath expecting zedomax to help. He has dozens of websites like gs2r, and is spread quite thin trying to make money from them. He doesn't appear to be at all focused on helping other people, just himself.

I have almost the same problem. I have ATT Samsung Galaxy SII with ICS4.03. Tried to root it. Everything was going as is written in "Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 (AT&T): Root and ClockworkMod Recovery" by Ken East on Apr 20, 2012: I saw a PASS message in Odin3 so the process was successful? What I see on display now is Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. I was seeing it for more than hour: I am a patient man.
What I tried after were
1. Turned phone off and then turned it on to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. BTW I could not even switch the phone off by pushing the Power button.
2. Took off battery and inserted it back to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign.
3. Pushed those three buttons- volume up, down and power to find out some options. Seems to me it was Recovery mode. CWM- based recovery v.5.0.2.3 was written on display. I chose reboot system and was watching a beautiful grey hat with orange arrow under it for half an hour. I tried other options in the menu with the same hat as a result first but then I saw new screen with new options.
So what must I do now to make my phone to work again? I understood that zedomax do not usually help.

Quite simply your issue is that you were using kernel built for gingerbread and not ICS, therefore it wouldn't boot.
Selecting an item in that version is done with the home button as indicated in the stickies.
Flash a new kernel that is compatible with ICS and all these issues go away and you can boot it up.

Strange for me but after I've read the article-instruction of rooting two more times just now I did not see any indication that the kernel is for gingerbread and not ICS. How could I wait such an evil? And I've read already a lot of messages to forums but you are the first to suggest such dishonor. BTW in the instruction was written the following:
3.Put your phone in Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down key, Volume Up key, and the Power buttons at the same time. Once you see “Warning” displayed on the screen, press the Volume Up key.
That was the way I used.
Do you see any possibility to return the phone to life? It is not quite simply, as you wrote, to my pity. It is because the phone does not boot up and computer does not see it. How can I flash another kernel in such conditions?

hello everyone, i hope someone can help. i have the t mobile locked s2 (with gingerbread) with simple mobile as my carrier. to get rid of the tmobile apps i'm told the phone has to be rooted. i know nothing about rooting so in searching i found oneclickroot.com. it sounds as if that is easy for me since i'm not a techie. can someone tell me if this site is recommended and if i use it what would be the other steps needed to get rid of the tmobile apps and upgrade from 'gingerbread'....i really hope someone can help so thanks for the support in advance.

So this morning and last night my phone was working perfectly until it decided to reboot, but since then it endlessly reboots show the the "Galaxy SIII GTI9300" screen. It comes up, goes black, then it shows it again. Ive looked around for other fixes but i can't enter my recovery or download mode. When entering into recover, it works for about 1 second then the phone reboots so I am unable to do anything, I can enter download for a few seconds but pressing the volume up or down to continue doesn't do anything.
I am using foxhound 2.4 and Siyah 1.9.1
I don't have an overclock, I've tested another battery so I know that isn't the issue.
I haven't done anything to it so I can't think of a reason it would be doing this. How can I fix it?
looks like sds
Any fix for it? I can't access recovery or download mode and my PC doesn't pick up my phone, should I take it in for repairs? Will they repair it with the custom ROM and kernel?
send it in, looks like it's the only option
From what I've read about SDS, I am by no means an expert, you wouldn't even be able to interact with your phone. The fact that you see the boot logo means that it isn't SDS. I am not sure what I'd do though, as you cannot enter download mode and flash a stock ROM from there.
If you send it in to service, I guess they will find out about the flash counter and modified status and all, and you would have to pay. On the other hand, if that is what it needs it might be worth it.
Sorry I'm not more helpful...

have you read the post? he can't access recovery or download
Well it just seems to get worse, I no longer get the boot screen anymore, now nothing happens, my phone doesn't even come on, when i plug my phone into the charger it gets the same endless reboot loop but insteast of the "Galaxy SIII GTI9300" screen it shows he battery logo with a circle in it for a few seconds. If it try access recovery or download it just reboots again. Without the charger nothing at all happens now.
you got the answer
is your phone the 16gb blue version?
if so ... then its really certain. u have sds! and even so its good that phone is trully dead! cause if it trully dead there is no way they'll find out that your rooted and running custom rom

Mije is actuall the 32Gb Pebble, I'm also hoping that it's completely dead though because I honestly can't think of how they would even go about getting the phone to boot since the screen will only come on while on the charger so I doubt they can use anything external, I'm sending my phone in tomorrow

Do the red exclamation point appear at any time?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
So I sent my phone in for repairs and somehow they managed to fix it and get it back to stock. Before I gave it in I never had a red exclamation. As soon as I rooted it when I got it back it now has the red exclamation. Today my phone entered a bootloop doing the exact same thing but eventually worked. Not sure if it was the ROM. I'm considering flashing back to stock just to be safe. Doesn't seem like I can get rid of that exclamation without doing so. They sorted it out for free. I'm just worried they will say my warranty has been void next time

Red exclamation point is the same as yellow triangle on s2 ... u need yo flash previous bootloader ... reset binary counter and then flash stock only then your warranty is back

i also have 32gb pebble blue with a 64 gb sandisk class 10 sd card. not using any roms everything stock but still have the same issue. i can get mine to load up if i pull the sd card out and reset.
does anyone know if there is some kind of issue related to using that type of sd card?
try homemade jtag or buy one if you don't want to send it to anywhere

I have the same problem but with foxhound 2.5.
What about the battery?
When I put it on, my s3 turns on itself...did the same thing happen to u?
Hi guys, I wanted to root my Galaxy S2(ICS) today but also keep the stock ROM.
I first followed a tutorial which had a Kernel download link to "jeboo_kernel_i9100_v1-2a". After reboot the yellow triangle appeared and that was all. It didn't boot up it just simply went black screen. I have like 30 tabs open looking on how to fix this, but couldn't find a fix. (maybe I'm illiterate and that's why). So I decided to try another kernel this time Siyah-s2-v4.0.1. Still the same yellow triangle and then black screen.
What I was able to do:
Vol up + home + power and Vol down + home + power. Both of these work, and the phone is recognized in Odin.
Now for some reason it gets stuck at the yellow triangle screen, and only the vol down + home + power combo works so I can still get it in Download mode. After trying some more the Custom Binary Download went up to 4 counts.
Any help is apreciated.
Thank you,
Zeros000.
Edit: Okay I tried again, now with the newest stable Siyah kernel "Siyah-s2-v5.0.1". This time it either loops in boot or stops at the Siyah logo.
your best shoot is at flashing a stock Rom then root using another method and then use triangle away by chainfire
On ICS, ExynosAbuse.
Can you get to recovery, do a couple of wipes, first dalvik.

If u see 'Siyah' logo then u can access its recovery for sure
use the volup + home + pwr button combo to get there and once there do a factory wipe and restart the phone

Yeah... I said I can't get in it because I already tried, not because I don't know how. I can hold this combination for minutes it still wont go into it.
EDIT:
Okay, I tried CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5. It failed. I tried I9100XXMS1_I9100OXAMS1_XEO, still failed. And I still can't get into recovery, just download mode. But now the yellow triangle is away.
Are you getting a pass in Odin?
If so either you're flashing the wrong ROMs for your device or you need to try other ports.

Yup, I'm getting pass. Can you help me out finding the good ROMs?
By other ports you mean USB port? Well I'll try that untill further replies.
Phone details:
GT-i9100
CSC XEO
PDA and Phone I9100XXLPB
CSC I9100OXXLP5
Under the battery it says:
GT-I9100
-I9100GSMH
Thanks.
Where are you getting the ROMs?
Try this: http://www.sammobile.com/2012/11/15/i9100xxlsj-–-galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware/
(don't flash the pit please, just csc, pda and phone).
If Odin passes, then you're looking good.
Remember to kill kies applications and antivirus.
And yes, I was talking about USB ports.

Meanwhile I tried different port with Siyah latest version. Same result with yellowT but this time it's not looping it's just sitting at the Siyah logo. The phone only gets stuck at the YT when I try recovery mode, and then loops.
(meanwhile downloading that rom)
OMG, after the 2nd loop it started up. I hope that it was the different port because then you are a HERO :good:. I should have tried different port too, but seems the keyboard port is still better than the ones in which I plug in usb's most of the time.
Thank you again, I'll post again after it finishes and see if it's working. Btw the XEO rom I've got was downloaded from sammobile.
It asks for Sim network unlock PIN. I have Orange Romania sim in it.

Phone is stuck at lock screen, I know that it's on because I just tried the radio, then left for a minute. When I came back the radio is still on but unable to turn on screen. Also I know that reboot wont help as it happened the first time too when the sim lock came up, while I wrote the previous post, the screen normally went off. And when I tried to turn it on it didn't. After the reboot I didn't let it go off and it worked until I left. Will reboot one more time.
I looked around and this might be the problem... ooops:
This kernel is only for Samsung JB ROM (No ICS support anymore). Although the kernel boots CM10.1 I will not support it until I fix dualbooting.

This is on Siyah's blog, could this be the problem? Restarting... Got stuck again at the logo... Restarting... Now it works again. I wonder if the screen lock is affected by this.
EDIT: I have Jelly Bean, seems like the last ROM I used was JB, so it's not the unsuporting problem. Also someone else suggested me Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock it worked and it was a free app, but thanks. You are really helpfull.
Edit 2: Okay nevermind, for some reason it works now... It's not reasurring but it works.
Thanks all of you for the great help. I don't think that I could have done it without @gastonw and the owner of jayceooi.com webpage (from where I tried the tutorial) who replied to my questions under minutes.
If anything happens again I'll know where to find people who want to help.
You can find galaxysim unlock for free here, at xda.
It's always good to go stock to check things out.
You only go custom if EVERYTHING seems fine.

I found YT-away free here at xda. I will get rid of that and the count number then leave it be.
I love the stock so far, but I only glimpsed for a moment at a custom one and had to close that thread... I don't want to deal with this for a while . Though some of them look awesome.
Edit: hum a big warning saying this could potentially brick my phone... ugh right now not sure if I'll even use YT-away.
Reflash stock or get mobile odin.
Mobile odin pro will get you rooted and clear that sign, only 5 bucks.
