Hi All
I have searched and read numerous forums posts regarding problems with MMS sending failing, all seem to point to APN settings being the cause. However, I find that unless i have a Samsung based ROM installed, whenever I try and send or open received MMS messages, the messaging application crashes and no matter what i've done, ROMS i've tried I get the same result! any CM based kernels cause it - CM9 has always done it, and the AOKP based roms using CM9 kernels as well.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Really want to get off the horrible clunky Samsung ROMS but use MMS a lot!
Agreed. I deleted all APNs and installed fresh settings from network providers website, no joy. I gave up and use whatsapp for pics. Never looked back. I'm paying for data so why not use some for pics. Hope you find a fix soon.

Try to reboot twice.. If that doesnt work you're going to have to find the apn settings and input them manually.
Try Slim ICS ROM it;s the complete opposite to clunky!
It's a really nice ROM with lots of features and is fast and smooth
I've been using it for about 8 weeks now and think I'll stick with it, so far no problems with anything at all, no FC no errors. And MMS works perfectly

Stop using MMS. There's much better, free alternatives, such as email.
I also am unable to send MMS using Swiss Orange Me Pre-pay sim. I am running Resurrection Rom 2.6.1 and Siyah Kernel 4.0.1. All attempts to add APN setting manually, reboot and clear cache and Dalvik cache and fix permissions have not solved the problem. I have changed from Kernel 3.5.2 to 4.0.1 and still no luck. I obtained correct APN settings from the Orange shop and the staff member commented that the Kernel may not be completely compatible with the network. Could this be the answer? Or is it something to do with the Rom build itself? Has anyone got the same problem on the same setup on a different network? I am aware that trying another Rom or Kernel or Sim card may solve the problem. I'm happy with my setup and send pics using email instead as I have unlimited data. I would like to know if this is a common problem.

Whilst I may use email etc, there are still times when MMS is useful, and for people not quite a tech savvy. It's also a basic feature of a mobile phone!
I am surprised that no seems to know the answer here - surely others experience this?
Just to confirm - I have tried multiple modems/kernels/roms, permission fixes etc, and rebooting multiple times. Even re-partitioning in ODIN! I have tried getting the settings sent from O2, requesting through SIM, and enetering manually; rebooting several times when rom is installed etc. Nothing seems to fix it except a samsung ROM?

If I get your question right, this is your problem:
'Only Samsung based Roms allow you to send mms successfully'
Try this solution:
- you will have to ensure mms settings is present under APN settings. Confirm if it's correct for your network provider.
If it's not correct, you will have to find it and enter it manually because Aosp messaging app cannot save configuration messages unlike Samsung messaging app.
- Reboot your device you manually added your mms settings (if not, skip this step).
- If messaging app still crash while sending mms, then use another messaging app, I recommend Gosms. It can allow you to manually link your mms settings.
Your problem should be solved now.
Please correct me if I missed anything

I got that too today when I was trying to send a pic to another TMO subscriber, I send it to ATT and it went through fine, try resending to TMO, and get the error.
Just tried resending it, and the error. I compiled a new MMS with the same pic to the same subscriber and it went through
I am having this same issue. When ever I try to send an mms I get that error. I am running one of masters 2.2 roms, but I have tried other 2.2 roms and I have gotten this same error. But when I flash back to my nandroid of a 2.1 rom the error goes away.

Thx guys. Wanted to make sure it wasnt just me.
Bump. This is really driving me nuts. No matter what 2.2 rom I flash I get this error

FIXED that Error on my phone
NEVERMIND: ONLY WORKED BRIEFLY THAN BACK TO SAME PROBLEM.....
I had same problem with Obsidian v2 & v4.2 ULF with picture messaging otherwise MMS.
This fixed it perfectly for me:
Go to your main menu settings.
Than Applications, Next Manage Applications, than Running Applications.
Click on "Messaging", Click "Clear Data"
Exit back to main screen.
Now open messaging.
Go to messaging settings by hitting the menu button on the phone.
While in messaging settings page, hit the phones menu button again,
only one option appears to "Restore Default Settings".
Click it & exit.
Now try to send a MMS/picture message. Worked like a charm for me.
Hope it helps some of you all out.
I just flashed today the axura 2.0.5, I am also having this same issue.
But this does not happen if the txt message has no picture attachment.
This is the only issue I have with the axura rom
I think I will have to go back to 2.1 if I can find a fix to this issue
The only way I have found to send an mms is to actually type the phone number I am sending it to. If I try to send an mms to one of my contacts then I get the error message. It is pretty anoying
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ditto axura 2.0.5. No MMS. Have tried every answer I could find but NG. Hope there is a fix soon.
***NEVERMIND: ONLY LOOKS LIKE IT WORKS BUT FRIENDS DONT RECEIVE THE ATTACHED PICTURE ONLY THE TEXT. f**K IT i GIVE UP. Just going to have to wait for a better ROM or newer froyo build or something. Frustrated but its ok. Whatever.
Below is for informational use only as it it still did not fix issue:
I eventually pulled the mms.apk from Obsidian V3 ROM. It is the AOSP mms version Team Whiskey modified to work with (android 2.2) & Obsidian in that release version. I also changed the icon to the touchwiz messaging icon to keep the look instead of the greem messaging icon. I will post the file later tonight for anyone interested. It does work fine for me. Tested several times using it in Obsidian V4.2 ULF.
You will simply have to close your current messaging application, clear data than use root explorer to delete the existing mms.apk in your system/app/ section and paste the one I'm using. Will have it posted after I get off work today. At least I have normal functionality this way.
Error in server response - axura ROM
Also using Axura 2.0.5
I been trying all kinds of get around. I nstalled handsent app , using a different mms app doesn't fix the issue. It worked only once , then error in server response again!
tried typing the tel number to send the mms, still error, very annoying.
And if I go back to 2.1 I can send out mms
Feelx77,
if you can post your solution with an installation procedure , alot of us will be happy
Heres the AOSP MMS that Team Whiskey had in their Obsidian V3 ROM. I pulled it and changed the default icon to the touchwiz icon.
As in my previous post one page back, it is useable and it looks like it sends your pictures but it really doesn't either for me. My friends only received the text that is included when I attached a picture. This mms.apk did not give me any errors, it just did not really send any pictures. Only looks like it does but no one receives them. If anything new comes to mind I will post later for everyone.
So, I just put back the regular MMS.apk on my phone for now. Out of ideas. Just have to wait to see if developers find a solution or fix it in new upcoming ROM releases or next froyo build.
Posting the file below if anyone wants to experiment with it. Installation instructions are in my previous post one page back.
Add area code to fix?
Master who made the ROM hnted how to fix the issue "he said: add the area code" I am posting the link to what he said
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821468&page=218
read post #2172
I tried to read back but I can not find the original post stating how to fix the problem by adding the area code.
I don't understand what he means by adding the area code. Maybe someone can comment on this fix.
FYI
Yeah I've heard making sure you have the area code or adding "1" in front of number. Those ideas work if your typing in a number to picture text but if I select a contact saved on the phone thats when it errors.
Other suggested moving contacts over to SIM card and than it works but that defeats the luxury of having a smart phone if I cant keep the contacts on my phone with each contacts extra details that cant be saved to SIM cards.
So, I know I CAN picture text manually for each message I send but I am trying to find a natural way to send mms picture messages easily by selecting any contact in my drop down list that has been saved to the phone without trickery....just like it did exactly with eclair 2.1 before. Ya' know
I read back thru the post, it was discuss to add the area code. Obviously I add the area code because my parents lives in ohio and I am live in california. I tried the following to no success:
1-000-000-0000
000-000-0000
(000)000-0000
1 (000) 000-0000
Is there someone who can tell me how to retrieve the error log, so that I can send it to master for review
It is 10:30pm , I am in communication with master right now, about this issue. He gave me things I can try, but none of them has fixed the issue.
I will let you guys know once, I get a good fix to the issue.
The ROM is great, except for this hitch,
I gave up on this a month a go. I switched to the Handcent mms client. I keep checking to see if the stock client works as I don't want two mms.
I also about to give up on the axura 2.0.5 , the only thing is that the skype works because it based on the 2.2 froyo .
Based on the axura 2.0.5 thread that I read, master believes that there is no problem.
Based on this thread , there is a number of users with this issue. It maybe a fraction of the users, but it's real.
I've ask master, how to pull out the log, so that I can send it to him for analysis.

I don't believe there is no problem, there is deff a problem.
It just amazes me that only some of you have the issue.
Keep in mind, it isn't only my ROM.
If you want a fix for it right this second then you can install the CM6 MMS
Hello Master,
Thanks for responding.
I really like your ROM,
Hopefully you will find a fix for it, it maybe in the form of a patch.
Do you stilll want me to send you a log, just let me know how to do this, and I will send it to you immediately.
Thank you again for this great ROM
hi everyone again ...
i have a probleme that i can´t reciept configuration message like for data connection, mms ... from my provider when i use custom room
previously when i use stock room i can reciept hem normally ... but now i can´t reciept and i do not have an internet connection without configuration
a note that im from morocco and previously i use united arabic emirates stock room and now i use RR latest release
I hope my problem is clear
no help
also when i put the configuration manually as the provider give me the data connection does work
If I understand your problem correctly (no mobile internet or MMS), it sounds like your APN settings were either missing or wrong...
But it also sounds like you put them in and it now works.

I have also noticed this issue for a long time but I always input my APN manually or just replace the APN config file in the ROM with my custom one before flashing the ROM.
The problem is that, on stock ROM/firmware, the messaging app can receive APN configuration messages.
For example, after a factory reset or flashing a New ROM, my carrier will always send me the APN configurations for Internet, MMS and 3G video as messages, which I will just install like that and It works.
On AOSP roms however, the default messaging App and even third party ones can never receive these APN configuration messages, and that's the real problem here.

It's Google's fault.
Happy Independence Day!
Ps: Aosp (Google) messaging and contact apps only have the looks. In terms of functionality, Stock (Samsung) contacts and messaging apps are way better.

after all this is...by your opinion what the solution the solve the proleme that i have ?
I've been looking around on the dev forum for this and haven't found a solution yet. My MMS seems to be broken, but from what I can gather, other people have no problem with it. I've tried three clean installs and still haven't had any luck. On the last clean install, I even cleared out the ROM slot and made a new one (still ROM slot one). GoSMS can send my MMS and group messages, but I much prefer the stock app. What is so different about the way that MMS gets processed through GoSMS that it can handle MMS even when the regular MMS.apk is broken. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, did you find a solution to fix it?

I just noticed today that I can't receive, or send, pics after almost a month on the the stable release of cm-10.1.2. I had no problems before. I restarted the phone and cleared the messaging app cache, but it's still broke. That's when I came out to XDA to search for a solution. I found your post, but no solution so far.
I tried all I knew to try before posting and have been at this for over a week. I have the straight talk s3 and its compatible with Verizon aosp ROMs and CWM and with that said, I have working MMS on all jb ROMs but when I flash a KitKat ROM it no longer works.
Things I have tried...
Taken the apn-conf.XML from the stock TW and replacing the kk conf.xml.
Taken the a conf.XML from the working jb also ROM and replacing the km one.
Tried the app APN backup and restore with no luck. And there is no way to manually enter the APN on the ST s3. Im stumped as it works fine with 4.3.. So I. Sure there is a fix I'm overlooking or don't know enough to fix. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried another SMS app that supports adding your own MMS settings? That's a common way to fix issues like this when flashing to another CDMA service or using roms for another phone...

Thanks for the reply.. yeah.. I have been using handcent but would really like to fix it to where I could use the stock messaging app and maybe hangouts. I'm new to this but I think the 3rd party app is fixing the problem I should be able to go in with a file browser and correct it, right? I still have a copy of the stock rom if there is a file I need from it and also aosp 4.3 roms the mms works if there is a file I could use from there. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
This rom has an APN Config feature: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598410
Maybe you should see how they implement that to see if you can port it to the rom you are using.

Thanks.. Well I gave it a shot and the phone will not take or save any APN that you put in it. I'm guessing its a straight talk thing. But the thing is, I can flash AOKP jb 4.3 and the stock MMS app works fine. So that let's me know it can be done, I just don't know how. Lol
Nah, it's not anything specific to Straight Talk. I would try something like this next:

I've had to use that trick on some phones before at my shop.

That's was my fault.. Forgot to move to priv app.. However I did get it to restore and I rebooted and tried to send a pic and still stuck at sending. I was for sure that would have fixed it.
***** OK, I tried it several times with no luck. I even deleted the APN and lost signal for a few seconds and it picked back up after a few seconds. There has to be some settings else where in there..?? Than I turned around and installed a SMS app and entered the APN and was able to send a MMS. I'm stumped.
I know way back in the CM 7 days, I had a bunch of issues with Bluegrass Cellular and MMS when I used CM. I fixed this by updating my APNs and flashing a modified Misc.img. I still have this Misc.img from my HTC Desire CDMA phone, but now I have a HTC Deluxe. Is it okay to flash that same file and see if it fixes the MMS or does anyone else have a better idea?
CM Nightly cm-11-20140508-NIGHTLY-dlx.zip
I am unable to SEND and RECEIVE.
Don't try the Misc.img. But you should just be able to add the APNs. If you don't have that option, then look at a 3rd party SMS app that allows you to add your own MMS settings. Ones that support this include but are not limited to:
Go SMS Pro
Hello SMS
Easy SMS
Chomp SMS
Textra
Handcent SMS
Sliding Messaging
Pretty sure those all support it and there's probably a couple more floating around there too.

Thank you very much for your reply... But I have already added the APN settings from what it was years ago. Not sure if there is a way to grab them off a nandroid backup, but even after adding those APN settings, I still can't get or send anything.
Well what messenger are you using? If it isn't working with stock, then try a 3rd party alternative. This is not uncommon with CM for CDMA devices as typically CM is built for GSM and then adapted to work with CDMA. Sometimes there's little weird things like that. Did you check in the thread for the rom you are using to see if other users are reporting similar problems? It's also possible the APNs are different from GB to KK. That happens often.
Okay, I tried using Handcent SMS and manually set the MMS settings and I still get the same thing.. Sending..
Isnt there a site that lists all the APN settings so I can make sure they havent changed? Or is there a way to get them from the stock nandroid backup?
And yes, I looked there and there was only 17 threads total, and there was nothing about MMS.
Did you do a clean or dirty flash? Users are reporting issues while dirty flashing that breaks MMS. Also, a few were having problems using 3rd party apps, but got it to work by adding the settings to Hangouts and sending via there. Another option is grabbing the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml from your original rom and moving that to the same folder of CM, make sure the permissions are set and reboot. Most of the sites with APN settings are only for GSM as typically most people don't need to mess with them for CDMA stuff. I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671592
and
http://forum.melbia.com/bluegrass-c...ar-apn-settings-for-iphone-android-t1011.html
for the actual settings themselves, though do not know if they work for KK, being that threads were from a year or 2 ago.
Well not sure what has changed but now I am getting "service not available on network.". And I have already followed those posts. I actually posted on the first one years ago.
I'm not trying to be difficult, just nothing is working
