2.2 ROMs, does anyone truly have a full working camera?

With all due respect to the developers who I think do the best work out there for Android phones...I've tried a few of the new ROM's and I've not experienced the full working Camera claimed in several of the threads. I'm fine with the no zoom feature...I downloaded Vignette and it's all good.
It's the camcorder that I need working 100% with a new baby on the way. I am on BB 46 and I found that I had the audio delay issue with video recording. I applied the patch that came out for that issue and then I had issues with the video's freezing, particularly longer ones.
Does anyone run a 2.2 ROM and not have video camera issues in 720p? If so, what ROM/BB combo are you on?? After switching back to 2.1 last night I'm really missing the performance of the 2.2 OS and am dying already to get back to it
I'm not sure about the camcoder but I think Wolf's CM rom is quite good as he's constantly trying to fix the lag issues.
The stock camera/camcoder app can take things at a better quality, but the zooming is way too slow for me.
If you like the stock app, then you can wait for the GB update as some testers claim that they are going to use the SE camera app in our update.
I've made a couple movies myself in 720p and didn't notice any issues with it.
I'm on Wolfbreak's CM6 rom.

So no audio lag, no video freezing?
What baseband are you running? Are you on the stock kernel or a custom one? Did you just apply his latest ROM or any extra camera fixes?
thanks
I am using latest Wolf's cm6 on bb52. Cam and camcoder works perfectly.

I suggest going back to stock 2.1 for perfect camera, but remember to backup with xrecovery so you can load 2.2 when you want to.

You got a baby on the way....so you want the best possible quality for video/photo.
Stick to 2.1 stock. No 2.2 rom will be better.

BB shouldn't make a difference in the camera but you should flash to .52 if you really are on .46 and not .49. I have no noticable delay with WolfBreaks ROM with the hotfix on BB .58 but I haven't done any extensive testing either but in the videos I have made since he released the .061 hotfix I haven't noticed the lag.

Yeah I'm leaning that way, but the 2.2 performance overall is so tempting
I saw a lot of posts from you in the 2.1 camera mod thread. Would you recommend I stay clear of that and stay 2.1 stock, or patch the V10 camera upgrade? You showed some pretty impressive pics in that thread after applying the patch and playing with some settings.

Yeah, the thing is is if your running firmware .435 V10 wony work so well. Theres video/audio lag when playing back your recording. But when i switched to firmware .6 V10 worked awesome.
So if your running .435 use V8 as V9 and 10 were built over the .16 firmware. V8 was built over the .435 firmware.
Or you can just stick to stock which works really well itself. EV control is the major benefit.
I explained how to use it in the camera mod thread.

What I would do is this: Setup whatever 2.2 ROM you decide has least lag issues/best camera options then create a backup. Then flash a 2.1 ROM custom or not the camera is the same but only install apps you absolutely need and make a backup. Now you can switch back to your 2.2 backup and if you need a better camera restore your other backup and since you haven't installed a bunch of stuff it should load quickly. You could also set up the reboot to recovery script (doomlord has a thread on dev forum) and create a shortcut to it which would act like a widget to further speed up your restore process.
You should also upgrade your baseband because .46 is just old, .49 and .52 are the same generation and work with the same ROMs. Generally speaking the newer the BB the better the radio and battery and .58 is the newest now, although MiUi and GB ROMs work on older generation.

This I'll definitely consider. A dual boot situation at this point is more work than I'd likely use. Now that i've been back on 2.1 for a few days(keep in mind it's an optimized stripped 2.1 rom)....life's not so bad. I don't apparently watch much flash content on the phone because i'm not missing that. Really the coolest thing I miss is having the ability to toggle my wifi/apn etc from the status bar.

It isn't from the status bar, but grab Dazzle Widgets. It will let you toggle wifi/apn, even cellular radio (a feature I was missing from my crackberry days), along with brightness, sound, bluetooth , gps... I have a 7 setting toggle, and it works perfect....

[Q] can stock 2.1 "camcorder" work in custom ROMS??

i have tried most of the custom ROMS and one thing is common - the camera nd camcorder DO NOT produce good pictures as the stock 2.1 update1 camera.
moreover, the stock camcorder has "continuous auto-focus" feature which none of the customs ROM have.
the camera works in most roms but there is a FC issue in the stock 2.1 camcorder...can anyone of you get a grip of that???
am on Froyobread 023d and am looking forward for a positive reply from you all.
I face the same issue.
Wait for ages bro, but I don't think anyone would care about this, i posted the very same problem about 4 month ago... a noone replied, but who knows, maybe this time...
This is the ONLY reason I don't use custom roms... maybe everyone else is happy with a half-working cam-_-

hey...i got a workaround
grab LgcamPro v 5.95 from net and use it "only" as a camcorder (set the focus mode as "semi - continuous") and voila!! u get "continuous auto-focus" back during recording videos.....use the stock 2.1update1 camera as ur photo cam and LGCamPRo5.95 as ur videocam

[Q] SGS2 Camera DEAD...Pls HELP!

Hi all,
Well...i bought phone 3 days ago and everything was working perfectly on stock rom. Then like most of us I wanted to root phone and install custom in this case Litening rom....after that my camera is not working anymore, when I start camera its stays black and after few sec i got camera error.
I have try to install few other roms like villianrom, miui darkys etc but none help,I even try to put some diferent kernels and modems but same.
Ive noticed in some other threads that can be issue with camera firmware,in my case I dont have it in samsung apps for update.
My curently camera firmware is SCE009 and if somebody has some other like the latest one SCE002 or at least tell me where I can download I will be more than thankfull cause i think this is my only and last chance to fix camera and its little frustrating when you buy phone like this and then something is not working properly.
Thank you,Mat
Oh, really sad to hear that. That's why I hate flashing this and that.

Why bump an old thread? To answer your question, try flashing the hacked camera. Or take pictures in better light.

Downgrade from 4.0.3 to 2.3.6

Hi!
Anybody ever considered to downgrade from 4.0.3 to 2.3.6?
Is it worth?
What do you think about?
Though as per the review by www.gsmarena.com.. 4.0.3 is more stable than 2.3.6.but still if you wanna do it then you can download the previous Stock firmware from www.sammobile.com and then flash it through odin... but make sure before doing it..search on youtube for video tutorial.

Why you will downgrade? Android 4.0.3 is stable enough than Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread)
It depend on you~~ do u have problem with ICS? for me i will stick with ics ~~

yea, it might be not so smooth, but for me i still can accept it~~ It will take sometimes before ICS become as good or better than GB~~ ^^
To be honest yes I am seriously thinking of downgrading
OK I'm with Orange UK and have the GT-I9100P with NFC.
I got the 2.3.6 update about a month ago and it was pretty good everything was working like it should. Then last week I got the ICS update and even after doing a full wipe my battery life is less than 24hrs ( GB 48+hrs ) the camera sound is now full blast and and taking a photo takes a few seconds whereas in GB the camera sound was quiet and taking a photo was pretty instant.
Sound in ICS is also an issue not sure what is causing it , some of the system sounds are extreamly quiet even when set at max also Video sound doesn't seem consistant one video is quiet next its loud yet in GB its the same level on most videos. Skype sound is also the same no where near as loud as before.
Ram usage has also increased even though I have the same apps installed from 340MB now on average I'm seeing 560MB , If I reboot the phone I then see Ram 270MB but after an hour or so its back to 560MB and that is just after letting it sit there ( even with all the apps uninstalled after a few hrs its still the same )
I like ICS don't get me wrong but to me its more like a testing OS it just has too many bugs and glitches.
If I knew how to develop ICS I would. I would love to remove all the Orange bloatware and sort out the camera and sound install ICS 4.0.4 to get better battery life

Make the phone faster?

If you wanna go to GB then i would recommend you Codename 7 by emannxperia.
Its the fastest and most stable GB rom for neo V.
hm, in the sample video it doesent seems much faster than my 4.0.3
when i think back i think to remember that the apps were instant open when i clicked on contacts or some other app... do i maybe just remember wrong?

Hi, if you have unlocked bootloader you can try Polish blood. Fastest among the few roms I've tried. If you're into customization, give Miui4 a shot. Both are ICS 4.0.4 btw, though they are much better than the stock one.

and if you have locked bootloader you can try jj's hybrid faster and lighter then stock 4.0.4 and stable...
JJ's Hybrid: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542115
I also recommend you the Polish Blood if u have an unlocked bootloader. It is really the fastest rom I've ever used. I became obsessed with free ram issue and this rom has more than 200 mb free ram. It has some minor bugs but they are not important for me now and they will also be fixed in the next releases. No need to go back to 2.3.4 I think. 4.0.4 is also good now.
If you care about visualization or something different you can try miui roms like Dctuazon mentioned too.
However you can not know if you do not try. It is your choice!!
i already installed 2.3.4 again :S
i also installed the codename 7 and its really really fast
it was a lot of work to reinstall the whole phone but now it works ablolutly perfect.
thanks to all
