Goodbye Amaze forums :( - HTC Amaze 4G

So last night my phone was stolen
Reason this is goodbye is because the TMO store I went to unfortunately didnt have any Amazes left, I actually did like the Amaze, it was a fun trip seeing the development and drama the Amaze forums brought. Anyways I got stuck with a SGS2, cant say Im too bummed because its a nice phone n all but Im no Samsung guy..oh well
Anyways nice to meet some of you, those that helped but considering Im primarily a lurker most probably dont know me
I'll be lurking in the Amaze sections once in awhile, as I might get another Amaze down the road.

should be covered under PHP (Premium Handset Protection) if you have that feature added to your plan and you only have to pay $5 bucks to replace stolen/lost device.

I have the insurance you pay 4.99 a month for, through Asurion. I already went through all that this morning, though the deductible for stolen/lost replacement is 125$ not 5$

Bummer man, sucks to have something like that stolen

Any thoughts of using a locating app? Like Plan B by lookout? My niece had her apple phone stolen and had a locating app on it. Some low life in the hotel we stayed at had "picked it up with plans on returning it".
I agree with eggy - bummer on the stolen phone.

Lol, 5 dollars is only the monthly fee. It's $130 for insurance replacement.

Plan b is definately worth a try but if the phone is turned off, or the person is smart enough to do a factory reset, then its useless.

Anyways lookout and other like minded aps can trace your phone reset and wipe info....all remotely.

wait i'm a lil confused... Tmo just recently added a PHP feature on my account ($7.99) when i had my device replaced due to a hardware damaged... So Asurion is the insurer?? Obviously I'm a lil noobish when it comes to this insurance crap but i don't mean to veer off on the subject - is it worth it paying for PHP? If someone could explain how this insurance thing work - i sure greatly appreciate it.

asurion is a third party company, so if you pay your monthly fee for it, and something were to happen, then you would deal with asurion, not t-mo, and you pay them 130 and they send you a phone. the monthly fee goes to t-mo, all they do is collect your money.

well here's what i forgot to mention... reason why i paid $20 bucks for my replacement is because it was still under warranty since i just got the device almost a month ago.. now the rep says that i could've only been charged $5 if i had the PHP which i did not have at that time of transaction. Sounds like Asurion is an extended warranty insurance.

well, they warranty everything. You could put a bullet through your phone and they'll send you a new one. They'll only cover your phone for a max. 2 replacements a year, that's it. But yes, it is like an extended warranty, you could have a 3 yr old phone and still be covered, but what you get in return may not be what you had, or want.

As soon as I noticed the bag with the phone was gone I called from a friend's phone and the phone was already off, I only had that lookout app as a trial and when I rooted n debloated took it off anyway. It really is a bummer because I liked the Amaze but to be honest the screen was already cracked due to a stupid accident, and I needed to get it replaced so I probably would've still ended with a SGS2 since T Mo is out of stock on the Amaze(atleast here in PR from what the rep told me).
But I will be honest with you guys, as much as I love my Amaze and have a dislike for Samsung, I cant really complain because their dev section is full, I'm already running CM9 which is what I really wanted on the Amaze since my personal preference is AOSP Android especially ICS. I fell in love ever since I got a beta AOSP ICS Rom on my old HD2. Im a flash whore when it comes to AOSP roms and **** they already got an alpha release for CM10 which Im thinking of flashing but not yet.
I miss my Amaze mostly for the fact that I LOVED the damn camera, sure the SGS2 also has a 8mp camera but I dunno the Amaze pictures were just that..Amazing lol.
Oh yea Invisiblefire101: I think that T Mo does that as soon as the phone is reported stolen.
@b33j7030 Im not sure man last time I was on the T Mo website I saw some ad on the side about a PHP insurance but I thought that was the same thing, maybe try calling a T Mo rep and asking what the difference is? I know a few around here are T Mo reps so they'll probably chime in with the info.

The 5$ plan does not cover the bulk of the shipping and if u want overnight it will cost you quite a bit. With the 7.99$ plan you get 5$ overnight shipping.

Or however long before Big Red forces all of us into tiered plans.
For existing customers, Amazon has the Galaxy Nexus for $150. (50 bucks cheaper than Verizon)

Well it looks like if I did that, I would need to make changes to my contract. Early termination fee, blah blah blah, etc. If I did it without contract changes it would be $649. So
I just read that since the Galaxy Nexus does not have removable storage the phone does not have USB mass storage. It instead uses MTP.
From what I've read, it seems like data transfer is slower with MTP and you cannot connect it to devices that read stored mp3's through things like Ford Sync (in cars). Also, the phone cannot just sync to photo software? I'm guessing to update and sort out which photos are new?
Does anyone have any information on the MTP vs. UMS?
As much as I detested everyone else leaving the X2 and leaving us behind, I really don't want to be stuck with this phone. Even though there are phone comparison topics found throughout various threads, maybe it would be best if there was one thread dedicated to users looking to share info on phones for comparison sake.
I will also say, $150 just looks so much better than $200 (especially since I have $50 gift card).

Maybe I'm taking the early termination fee thing out of context. I think its just warning you about the fee if you cancel after 14 days. But I'm not eligible for an upgrade until April of next year. This would be a contract extension but would amazon or Verizon allow it?

no they wouldnt allow that. they want you to buy if for $650 or have to pay the early termination which is insane.
Eh dont panic about the Nexus not being there. It is reasonably priced at $200 w/2yr and that price can only go down. Granted, that decrease will take some time but the point is the phone is amazing and worth paying that extra money.
FWIW, Nitro and Ace just started developing for the Bionic, so if youre poor like me and your phone is physically dying, a *free* 4G device sounds pretty darn good

So, i never gave any insurances for phones a big thought... if you think, that I had plenty phones, and none of them got so damaged, lost, thrown in the water... that I was worried about insurance...
I mean you pay depending where about 10$ per month (2 years 240$) so if you just in case can get your phone replaced and pay another 100$ deductable... so in the end i pay 340$ to be sure I could have a replacment phone... now in other words...if i say the phone is worth 600$ that would mean that every 2nd person would need to replace there phone so it makes sense for a consumer to buy this... really every 2nd person? still it seems to be popular in these forums...
I mean yeah i had a display break from one of my phone some time back went to the store ordered a new display 100$ done... here i would have still overpaid 200$ so I don't quite get it... but I do have an open mind to be convinced
My example is absolutely simplified... and they offer repair services as well... I understand, but still...
Am i just talking good care of my stuff? so that i dont worry about this so much ? just wondering...
I think of it like this do I have in pocket over 500 to replace my phone nope. So ten bucks a month is easier when I do need replacmet and pay 100. Second is piece of mind, I did a few replacements and fixes which is good. In the end sprint and insurance wins. The thing that bugs me was a few years back the amount of fraud going on and that's why it gets more expensive when it comes to insurance.

This is a good example why I don't have sprints TEP. It's a big rip off. I personally like using best buy black tie protection. I paid $170 for 2 years it doesn't have a deductible it is cheaper than sprints TEP.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I personally think it's a waste of money. If I drop my phone on the sidewalk or in the toilet, I'll suck it up and get a cheap phone off Craigslist until I can save up for a replacement. I'd rather that than spend that much money a month on insurance. Besides, don't you all put a few bucks into an emergency fund every month anyway?
People say just be careful with your phone and you won't need insurance and if you can't do that then get ibsurance. Sure that's a good point, but there's no way I can watch out for it every day nor do I want to pile up money for insurance so small investments for quality cases and screen shields do that job for me for much less than paying insurance a month, so now I only have to worry about it for exceptionally dangerous days (camping, swimming, etc) which is easy if you remind yourself how important your phone is and how crazy it'll be without it. Living like this, I've never broken a phone.
But that's just me. I like someone else's idea, instead of investing your money in insurance where you never get it back, put it aside as a "phone" funds for yourself at the same rate this way you can keep your own money if you don't use it. You'll be paying more for the replacement, but if you generally don't break phones you'll be saving more money than you spend if you don't break it the next time (easier said than done, but I did say "if you generally don't break phones")
Basically, insurance is for people who either:
1) want to throw away money
or
2) break phones often (2+ times within one 2-year agreement)
Personally I don't think insurance is a bad idea but I do think sprints TEP structure is a total ripoff. Looking at a few EVO LTE on Ebay they're already going for under retail and I've seen a few open box sell for $450. I could only imagine what our phones would sell for in a couple of months. These phones will be so affordable soon rendering TEP a total ripoff if one had to pay a $200 deductible.

As mentioned, you'd be getting ripped off to pay that much for a replacement now that Ebay is stocked up and people are looking ahead to the SGS3.
But, hey, at least we're not being forced by anybody to carry phone insurance. Yet.

I think the bottom line here is if you want phone insurance, get phone insurance. If you don't, then you don't. It's that simple. However, I kinda find it interesting that a lot of people say hey I don't need phone insurance but are the same people that get insurance on electronics. I know it's much cheaper and there's no deductible but if you are gonna be a stickler then be one 100% of the time. Insurance is there for those that wanna be proactive and have a peace of mind at the end of the day. Think of how much money we throw away paying car, home and renters insurance without ever putting in a claim? I know all these things are mandatory but honestly we waste thousands upon thousands upon thousands for those things. However, it's the peace of mind knowing that if you smash your car up, your home gets burglarized or catches fire, you'll be covered and so will your valuables( if you pay that extra $200 a year or more for that). If these things didn't carry mandatory weight, would we have car or home insurance? It's the same question to ask yourself when looking to purchase phone insurance( minus the mandatory part). I carry the TEP insurance because it protects me against EVERYTHING! I know there is a deductible but it works for me. I've heard horror stories about BBs Black Tie Protection. Yeah there is no deductible but what you have to go through to get your phone fixed is not worth the $94 you'll save vs the Sprint plan and in the end you end up getting a refurbished phone anyways. That's like saying I'll go to Joe Schmoe to get my car fixed because he is cheaper than the dealership but end up getting your car back with more problems than you started out with. I just say go with what you like. In the same breath, you can't ridicule or belittle someone for being proactive imho.
My old Palm Centro, Palm Pre, and Evo Shift...
Centro had worn out button panel, and then someone stepped on it a bit and the button panel broke on the corner.... free repair in 1 day
Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
So this is why I keep my Sprint TEP
Never paid a dime aside from the monthly fee

$470 now $370 next month $270 the following month. Eventually the phone will level off around $225-$300. At that point making sprint deductible of $200 a total ripoff. I guess TEP is a good investment within the first 4 months of a phones released.

phone insurance?

I just bought my phone last week. Do you people recommend the insurance? I bought it from best buy should I choose their insurance or through sprint. I didnt think I would need it until I read the lazy panda s-off thread.
I bought insurance thru gocare.com. Still haven't used it but it is still WAY cheaper than Sprint and best buy. I bought it really for piece of mind. I'm very gentle with my love and she has a Otterbox defender on.

I think (JMO) that insurance thru sprint is ridiculous. I've heard its up to $11 a month with a $100 deductable. Over 2 years of your contract, that will put you at $500+. And if you do break it, you could pay over $600 total invested. You can get our phones for $300-350 on ebay. Its worth it to me to roll the dice, be careful with my phone. I could see it being worth it if you are really clumsy, but then you should probably have an old Nokia. Not something with a glass screen.

I could see it being worth it if you are really clumsy, but then you should probably have an old Nokia. Not something with a glass screen.

With that logic, do you not carry car insurance either????

24 * 11 = 264. Where did you get 500+?

The deductible on this phone is $150 not $100.

Im not trying to stir up anything just asking for all opinions. Thanks for the input. I didnt have insurance on my last phone but I am scared about bricking. I will give you something to laugh about I screwed up trying to root with zedomax method. I had a blank screen with no icons and was freaking then I factory reset (stupid htc sync).
I currently have the Best Buy insurance, and I'm getting ready to drop it because since I picked up my EvoLTE, they have double billed me. The last time I called them to handle it, they totaled screwed up my whole BB geek squad acct. They dumped all the other devices off the insurance.
I never had a problem before with them, but I think it's time to look elsewhere.

I have insurance on my phone and my wife's. It's really a convenience thing for us. New phone the next day and the deductible added to our bill. We don't have extra cash to buy one, and we don't feel like using craigslist. Those pros outweigh the cons of the monthly fee and deductible.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
If your phone is rooted, you want insurance.
Its protection from yourself
That's a good point too. My lte is rooted, her design 4g isn't, but our 18 mo old daughter gave the design 4g a coffee bath this morning. Oops.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Yep always take the insurance, not from BB the gf had it through them and they apparently do not cover theft

I just bought my phone last week. Do you people recommend the insurance? I bought it from best buy should I choose their insurance or through sprint. I didnt think I would need it until I read the lazy panda s-off thread.

i would go with best buys, there is not a down payment and they dont even know how to check if it is rooted or not
You generally do NOT want best buys insurance with this phone.
The reason being: for ANY issue, they take your phone and you get a refurbished one. Thats great and all.......unless you care about being S-OFF
Get it from Sprint because if anything fails guess what, you get stuff fixed for free. The only thing techs can't fix is physical damage and liquid damage.

I refuse to pay insurance, it's ridiculous (the price)
I always keep my old phone just in case something happens.
The Evo was the first phone I ever bought full price and still I wouldn't pay insurance.
Just be gentle with ur phone and keep it in a nice case.
Well some of us don't believe in having a phone die on us after the 30 day return window is up, or get lost, stolen, or damaged. These phones cost quite a bit regardless of whether or not we have a spare, and its comforting to know we can just get a replacement phone if something does happen

Agreed. And with everything that could go wrong with rooting/flashing/ect I personally don't think its a smart move to not have it.
There have been multiple people with devices that just randomly bricked doing things it shouldn't brick while doing.

AT&T info needed ASAP

So, I bought my HTC ONE last weekend, paid full price minus 35% discount with work. 420.00. I get a call today saying I have to be on contract with discount. I asked why in the world would i pay full price w discount to be on contract. What was point. He said he could refund me and put me under contract at the 199 price.
Heres my question... I have the phone. I signed NO contract. I paid it and walked away. DO I need to go in and do this, or did they just mess up and trying to recover some money? I need a ATT rep or salemsan to give me honest answer, the guy was nice and its his manager riding him on this.
That sounds like a load of bull. I used to work at Best Buy Mobile and the way reps make money is through contract activations. You barely make anything on no contract sales. He probably wasn't supposed to sell the phone no contract since its a brand new phone and has such a high potential to be sold with contract. I wouldn't take it back. Especially since that's a great price for no contract
That's what I'm thinking. I just want confirmation before I tell them to kick rocks. Plus they hinting at swapping phones out. Mines already unlocked rooted and running. I told him he isn't getting phone back regardless. I'm not swapping. I just need someone who can tell me either way for sure. Thanks for reply
sounds like you need to speak to a manager. I wouldn't let them bully you.
Its coming via manager. I don't trust a manager more than anyone else

Tell them to pound sand.
That's my goal but I want affirmation from someone who works w ATT. I know someone is out there
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
I don't think you'll get a real answer from someone who works at AT&T. IMO, I'd just ignore them completely. As you said, you have the phone in your hands, you didn't sign a contract, there really is nothing they can do to come after you. If they tried to charge you the additional money, it would be an unauthorized charge that you could dispute with your CC company and they would surely lose.
Worst case they blacklist the imei
True. Blacklist imei...then what...phone won't work?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
What possible cause would they have for blacklisting the IMEI? The phone is not stolen, tampered with, etc., you have proof of purchase. Just because they screwed up doesn't put you in the wrong at all.
I'm with ya. I think he realized he sold me phone early, display model, and wants to swap out and get me under contract. No way I'm going there. Either I'll pay rest or ignore him. I just don't want att to screw w me. I'll drop them fast. My 300 plus a month won't hurt them but I'll spend it somewhere else
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Technically he is correct. Your fan discount percentage requires a 2yr agreement. However unless your willing to go in and sign I don't see what they can do to make you as you already paid and have the phone.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
So why would one use a discount at full price to sign contract, when contract price is a lot cheaper? He couldnt explain.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I've never had to sign any contract when using my discount and I've bought many phones that way. Like many here I'd rather pay full price or in this case full price minus the discount and be able to walk away whenever I wanted too.
can I unluck this phone myself?
I don't know...can you? Yes it's possible. HTC dev. Look in th HTC one forums for directions

Honestly it sounds like someone does not want to get into trouble so they are trying to fix it before they get caught

Tha might be his manager ridding his butt for it, but it might be the rep also that realized he could've gotten a good return by activating the phone and you getting an upgrade. They cannot do anything to you at this point since you bought the phone outright and did sign a contract. They cannto blacklist your IMEI either because you did not steal the phone or aquire it some other way. you purchased the phone from them.
it is getting closer to the end of the month and they do work on commision, so he is probably thinkin about his quota for this month.
When i work for AT&T and a customer told me he wants to purchase the phone outright no contract i would just try to sell accesories, if that didn't work, i would just sell the phone, end of story.
Hope this helps!!!!

He is not correct, the FAN gives you a discount on your plan and when you purchase phone outright (no contract), he is a premier customer which get a discount when they purchase a phone with no contract. When you do a contract it doesn't matter is you are premier or not. The premier perks are : dicsount from service, accesories, handsets and that's where is stops.
:cyclops:
Thanks for responses y'all. Im totally with y'all, just wanted some reassurance. I say they can kick rocks. My phone and not returning it. Period. I'm rooted and unlocked running international ROM. Works great. LOVE this phone.

"Key"important facts to know when buying Htc one outright

One thing to rememebr if you need insurance get it within 14 days of your purchase date ,apparently people who got the phone before it has been exclusive to all stores which should be may 1st I was told by two reputable sources have no insurance option on" PREPAID plan ONLY"
It's because it hasn't made It into tmobiles system as a option for prepaid plans yet ...even tho every other phone is ,it will pop up the day it's released in all stores .....so make sure you go back and get it if you were wanting it and told u can't ,if you was one of the many who got it before launch..

you can get the Full PHP which is the insurance and lifetime warranty right now in any T-Mo store as well as with Customer Care. the T-Mo rep has to call in to Customer Care for your and ask that they put on the $11.99 bundle. I have had to do it since the 24th when the phone was put out in the T-Mo store i would in, but yes. You have 14 days to get PHP if you want it. You just have to make sure you don't do anything to the phone in that 14 days you have it.

I would agree to a point. some people out there have a high chance they will drop and break the phone. That means you pay $175 for a replacement instead of $580 again. Also remember that part of that 12 is a lifetime warranty. ppl that might want to keep this phone for a long will be able to change the phone out when the battery goes out for whatever reason. also not everyone knows how to flash roms and such so it is for the avg person that knows nothing. Trust i would never pay it but some people get it because of the risk of breaking the phone. Why do ppl get car insurance. Its because you have a chance to F up their car and want it fixed. Its the same idea. it all depends on the person. I have seen people come into my T-Mo Store 2 times within the 1st year because their kid throw their phone or their kid dropped it in water. That would mean they now paid 350 for 2 new phones instead of 1160 on top of the phone they already paid for. Its got its good points and bad points.

People get car insurance because its illegal not to carry it lol but I get your point. I guess I'm just careful with my phones... I broke the Hero (the LCD cracked internally, the external glass was fine... really weird) and I broke a Sony Ericsson T300 by throwing it on the ground in a fit of rage... Then again, I always put my phones in a case right off the bat (except for my Blackberries - never had to worry about those).
Then again, this is HTC... And I've had issues with EVERY HTC device I've ever had so maybe its worth it.
My guy said it wouldn't give the option In system when I paid outright price .. he said it could have been because it's not yet out fficially in all stores , what he did was scan a s3 for me and separately added the Insurance on my prepaid 70$ account and then told me once I activate the htc one it would just show that as my Device on my line and that the insurance would Carry over to the new phone .
It was a tricky way to do it but works , I only made the topic to help safeguard the option if others were noticing this issue on an outright purchase for this phone in particular

Yea there is two ways we can ring a phone out in our system at the store. The fast way which is a system called POS and the slower way which is called CHIU. if you go through POS, they haven't made it yet so we can add the $11.99 one, but if you go though CHIU it does it for you. This was a problem when the Iphone was put out as well. In the end if you have the $7.99, it will auto change to the $11.99 when the system sees you are using a phone that needs the $11.99 one.

Not every state makes you have car insurance. Some states its your choice. Not i think that is more down south then up north, but i am not sure. A little fact or being off topic.

Wait, what? Which state would that be?
I personally have thought about dropping the insurance from tmobile as when I got my Note 2 they changed my 7.99 plan to 11.99. That is basically 5 more bucks a month, which equates to 60 more a year. I have it on two phones now... So 120 a year. Ridiculous!
Going to shop around before dropping it, but how much higher can things keep going until enough is enough!
Tmobile does away with contracts to save people money, but find ways to raise other parts of your contract still, only if you have a tier E device though.....
Fancy pants Note ||
Wth, the rep and order shows 7.99 insurance and $150 deductible. No way in hell would I keep insurance if it is 12 and 175, that is Sprint level ;p. Definitely will go squaretrade then or keep my old phone on sprint.
