persistent download pop up

hi my specs are in my sig and my phone is stock and non rooted.
recently ive been getting this notification pop-up usually when i reset the phone. ive also noticed that when im on wifi the orange download arrow intermittently shows every 5-10 secs, even when i am not doing anything. the orange download arrow is however inactive (when idle) if i switch to data. i did not have these 'symptoms' a week ago.
since i believe this to be a failed download, the first thing i did was erase all downloads in the downloads app, which did not solve the problem. i then tried to clean the caches of apps that i know download stuff- downloads, download manager, google play, gmail, chrome, internet, pulse- however this did not solve the problem either. although they were there even before this started happening, i disabled my weather, calendar and task widgets just to be sure - but the problem still persists. finally, i tried using avast, then dr webb, just to be sure there were no viruses etc on my phone- and results were negative?
so what else can i try to figure this out? i would rather have my phone unrooted and stock as i had good battery life before this and sq with stock browser custom eq is perfect for my iem.
any help would be appreciated.
Get All in One toolbox from Playstore.
Go to the Fast Book (third tab).
There you can see what all apps are starting in boot.
That way you can figure out the culprit.
Is that your lockscreen or your desktop?
Either way, how did you configured it? Me likes it a lot...

[Q] Apps automatically start running in background

I got my Xperia P more than a month ago and never had this problem. Now even if i kill all processes using the official or a third-party app, a few minutes later a number of apps are running again in the background and killing my battery.
What can i do?
You can download Autorun Manager in PlayStore.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus S mit Tapatalk 2
uninstall all apps you don't need
check settings of those you need - you may find different background sync options, instant notifications, alarms, etc - turn them off
Usually developers provide some way to stop unwanted background tasks, but not always unfortunately
Autorun managers sometimes help but not really always. There are many ways to start background process for an app. Autorun manager can't cover all.

[SHARE] [APP] MyAndroidTools + Guide to disable some Play Services processes

Hi guys I wanna share with you this awesome app developed by wangqi060934 that you can find for free on the play store.
LINK: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.myandroidtools&hl=it
With this app you can enable or disable any app services, receivers, activities or providers and so having full control on your personal or system apps.
I have been using AOSPA since Chirag built it, but I have never reached the 4.26 hours with my normal daily usage till I disabled those fu***** play service processes and then Android OS percentage has fallen down and no more wakelocks.:highfive: (See the attachments)
I found this app interesting because now I found a way to disable some Google Play Services processes which drain a lot of battery and use a lot of ram. I'll show you how to do this right now.
SERVICE
This is divided between third party & system and contains all services. Near every app name there is a white, blue or red number.
The white shows the total number of services, the blue shows the number of active services and the red shows the number of disabled services.
RECEIVER
This section is divided among Actions, Third Party & System. Also here, near every app name there is a white number that shows the total number of receivers and a red one that shows the number of disabled receivers.
GUIDE TO DISABLE SOME GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES PROCESSES WITHOUT LOOSING ANY FEATURES AND GAINING RAM & PRECIOUS BATTERY GUICE
Open SERVICE section and tap on System;
Find Google Play Services and tap on it;
Disable those services
Code:
AdRequestBrokerService
AnalyticsIntentService
AnalyticsService
FusedLocationService
FusedProviderService
GeocoreService
GeofenceProviderService
GoogleLocationManagerService
NlpLocationReceiverService
SystemUpdateService
WatchdogService
WearableControlService
WearableService
Open RECEIVER section and tap on System;
Find Google Play Services and tap on it;
Disable those receivers:
Code:
AccountChangedReceiver
GServicesChangedReceiver
SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver
SystemUpdateService$Receiver
As you can see I have disabled the google analytics, that pratically is useless (but it takes 26 mb of ram) and most localization processes but If you do these steps in the right way, your localization service, gps, will continue to work properly. (see the gps status screenshot attached below)
I hope that this has been useful for all of you , and guys be careful when you disable things!
Great @hastalafiesta. If you find some more stuff that can be disabled without loosing normal functionality post it. :good::good::good:

No, all will work as usual
In Google Play Services - RECEIVER section I have ConnectivityReceiver and PowerConnectedReceiver already disabled, not sure why because it is the first time I tweak Google Play Services.
I think you can verify these entries and eventually add them.
Excellent tool!
Does it activate after boot?
I can see receivers from frozen apps, does this mean they also bloat the system, even frozen?

Yes, all your changes will be applied after reboot.
Deleting an app is better than frozing, the frozen app itself remains on the device, is just "blocked" but the junk is always on your phone
Works fine on s3
I have noticed that some applications such as Prezzi Benzina require that GoogleLocationManagerService is active so that the geolocation functions properly. Who uses this function should not disable it.
Free other 75 MB of RAM on NeatROM 7.9
To disable the automatic startup of the app: Reciver-> Third Party -> "App Name" -> remove tick from BootUpReceiver / BootReceiver
GeocoreService

InAppBillingService ( it cause lot of wake locks .. you can disable it with out any problem ...and if u want to buy any inapp purchase just enable this for that time only and after purchase over u can disable it )
LicensingSevice ( u can disable this IF you didn't buy anything OFFICIALLY from play store)
these 2 are enough and after that greenify playstore.. it won't cause wakelocks ..enjoy
Great @hasta!
I've installed this app and applied your tricks....
Soon my feedback![emoji1] [emoji1]
Edit: geolocation by net (3g+wifi) doesn't work!!

I disabled theese services too (without problems for now):

FitnessSyncAdapterService
ConfigFetchService
SyncService
and Reciver -> System -> Google play services:
FitnessInitReceiver
WaerableSyncServiceReceiver
I've got a problem with my wifes rooted galaxy s4 on Stock...
I installed this app at my own s3mini, disabled the recommended services and made a backup.
Then I brought this backup to my wifes s4, installed MyAndroidTools and restored the settings.
After that I've got security warnings want me to update security policies - I guess it's Knox. I tried to enable the services again, but some wont. Every now and then this security warning is coming up now... I've uninstalled MAT but the warning remains...
Furthermore her WhatsApp shortcut was gone while Whatsapp was still working... I needed to unistall and reinstall WhatsApp to bring back the shortcut...
Does anyone have an idea how to restore the system as it was before- or to bring Knox to silence again?

S3 unusable

Hi guys. For a while my s3 has problems. With any rom, the applications after 1 or 2 days start to trouble and the phone becomes unusable. The Applications are forced to close on their own. Is there a solution to this problem or do I have to change rom every 2 days?
Sorry for my english. I'm italian

Lack of RAM is showing up. Try to greenify apps that work in background and open them when you need them. this will free up some ram and make phone kind of usable

Any OS higher than the last official firmware will have issues because the hardware wasn't designed to incorporate the newer features. These new features must be either removed or patched out which causes instability issues because apps are looking for something that doesn't exist.
Only the last official firmware and os is stable enough to be called a release candidate.
RAM in android is not meant to be free. Android is programmed to use ALL of the RAM at ALL TIMES. This allows apps to open quicker as they have been preloaded because they are determined to be an app you will use regularly. If you don't use the app it will eventually be omitted from RAM automatically and replaced with the next app deemed to be used more regularly.
People should be paying attention to how Android is actually programmed before recommending false hopes on apps like "greenify".
Apps like greenify will run in RAM and try to omit the running processes. Android will override the decision and make the app run regardless, only to be closed again by greenify. This causes a 'war' between os and app and uses excessive power. Greenify is and always will be a placebo.
Common causes for apps not behaving are:
1, Interference from other apps
2, manual interference ie permissions being manually revoked.
3, apps not installed via playstore.
4, incompatible operating systems.
5, poor programming in the first place.
So in summary, if you use anything but unrooted stock firmware you will encounter issues. This comes with the territory of messing with things you have no clue about, including apps that claim to make everything better.

The solution is to go back to the stock rom? Or even custom rom Based on the official firmware?

Im not telling him that the ram should be free. What im telling him that if you are low on ram (like our gs3 has 831 mb of ram) each time you open an app it loads into the ram that previously most probably has been used by other app causing lag because of the time needed to remove old app from app and load a new one. When you have more ram in device it just replaces the "dummy file" from the ram so there is no lag because there is no app that will not want to be killed
@shivadow: your RAM-lecture is IMO quiet irrelevant here. 800MB available means constantly moving necessary things out of /into RAM. Custom-kernels add x-RAM therefore, but freezes /FCs are just caused by hickups during x-RAM-ops. @antony991: I could use S3 stable and battery friendly by using a lite-ROM, without GApps, with a few lite apps only. My favourite was an unofficial Slim-build.

FDroid is safe? are there malware apps?
FDroid offers open-source apps only: checked carefully, fewer choice.
Yalp gives you a link to GPlay: free versions only.
Both offers you the lowest chance of malware, but no insurance.
