My cousin has the international s3 and she told me that her voicemail notification won't go away even after checking everything. I searched the net and found a possible solution and told her to leave herself a message and then delete it. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Does anyone have a solution for this?
settings - app manager - all - phone - clear data.
If u reboot, must do it again!
The voice mail notifications require signals from the network to turn them on and off.
It could be a network issue

I had the same problem with my international Galaxy S3 and the solution you gave to your cousin worked very well for me.

So after upgrading to ICS I have a voice mail icon on my notification bar. This is a data only device for me with no access to voice mail does anybody have an way to clear the icon?
Kirby
Ditto! Had it since first upgrading myself. Just figured out you can slide notifications away after pulling em all up, but sadly that one won't budge.
It's not a big problem, but does get rather annoying.
Has anyone tried removing the phone apks?

This does remove the notification but borks the entire system. No cellular reception at all if you remove the phone.apk and .odex.

I got my Mediapad 2 weeks ago and had to get a new TMO SIM to make calls (old SIM refused to connect to network). I have had the new voicemail icon ever since and I have not upgraded or rooted anything. I'm looking forward to getting a clue on this mystery!

The typical way to get rid of this is to call yourself and leave a voicemail then delete that voicemail. I've had this problem on Android devices in general on the last few iterations of the OS. The problem with the Mediapad is that most of us have a data only plan on our tablets.
I had a similar problem when I asked T-Mo to disable voicemail on my prepaid SIM. Ever since, any device I plug the SIM into remains convinced that there's a new voicemail. This has remained the case for 1.5 years now. Perhaps this is an overall problem with their provisioning of accounts that don't have voice/voicemail.

So getting a new SIM could possibly resolve the issue.

I doubt it. For an unrelated reason I had to do a SIM swap on one of my trips to the USA, and the VM icon problem persisted through to the new SIM.
I think it's an issue in the way the accounts are provisioned. And T-Mobile hasn't managed to figure out a solution because I tried with them several times.
Come on guys simple solution.go to settings->apps->look for phone app and clear data/cache if this doesnt work do the same to the dialer app. This only clears that pesky voicemail notifacation.doesnt clear voicemail inbox

For me at least this won't work because I have neither a phone app or a dialer app. Nothing to clear, I personally think this is a provisioning issue that T-Mobile needs to deal with.

That's the only way I know how to remove the voicemail icon. Can your device use the wifi calling feature? Maybe then you can do what the quote says...
FOUND IT!
I have a T-Mobile Springboard running ICS as well. I went to settings->apps->Mobile Data... and hit Clear Data. It should immediately get rid of the stupid VM icon and I still have access to the mobile data.

I'll have to try that when I get home. I meant to bring my tablet with me this morning but was running late. If this works, thanks for the tip!

I don't have any option to clear data so unless I'm missing something this isn't option for me.

Rkwhyte,
It is found in Settings->Applications->All apps->Mobile Data
from there select Clear data and BOOM the voicemail icon goes away. Don't touch mobile network configuration though.

The only problem I see though is if I turn the device completely on then turn it on again the VMail icon appears again. But that's okay. At least I know how to clear it when I'm working on my tablet so that I don't accidentally touch it again (which I've done many times).
I have the same issue with my tablet plan :crying:
I'm having trouble sending SMS's with the latest Hydrog3n ICS. It comes up with "sending failed" and drops my GSM signal. I've searched the settings and unable to find the message centre setting. But strange enough is I'm able to receive SMS's.
Anybody else having this issue?

Before you do anything else. Have you tried simply reflashing the rom? Or maybe just restarting the phone? Sometimes these simple things should fix your phone. And it is advisable to format cache and format system too before flashing a new rom. Please ask away if you need some help with this.
Have a nice day.

It's the settings from within the Messaging app. Open Messaging > Menu > Settings. Scroll about halfway down. Should be under "Text message (SMS) settings".

I'll try that and see. Although I really think it's a glitch in the ROM (or messaging app) itself.

Hmm. Hydrog3n not a stock based ROM? The setting is there in the Samsung stock messaging app.
Okey dokey. I've reinstalled the ROM after a full wipe as suggested and the issue persists. I've also tried flashing CM9 (20-3-2012) with the same result. This is insane. Am I the only one with this issue? Or am I the only one still texting?
It seems like I'll need to roll back to CheckROM while I wait for an update . At least I'll get 3 days on my battery again

I'm having the exact same problem, perhaps it has something to do with network specifics here in south africa. CM9 forums do have this problem on their bug list, but it doesn't seem to be present in most users. Desperate for a fix though, at some point i gave up and tried different roms where sms worked, was painful using anything else after using CM9 or Hydrog3n, so i'm back, rather use cm9 or Hydrog3n than anything else even with the sms problem...... ........ hopefully a fix comes soon.
Problem solved
I have solved my issue withthis, it turns out to be a problem with the SMS center number (smsc) using *#*#4636#*#* you can access the phone details and you need to update the smsc number to the appropriate number for your carrier. I was getting update error msgs when trying to update this, so the solution was to insert your sim into another phone (i used a blackberry, settings, sms,...). From what i've read part of the problem has to do with the old 34K sim cards.
everytime someone sends me a text pic I click download and nothing happens. It used to work perfectly but now its not. Do I have enable something in the options because im really confused.
You should be able to long press the image and select "save attachments" after that put a check in the box of the attachment(s) you want to save them click save or download. This is about as far as my advice goes. But it works for me every time.
Stock everything.
I had this problem on another phone recently and it was due to the apn settings. Do a search for your carriers apn settings and make sure they're there. Sometimes there's a specific mms apn setting you need to add

if that fixed it, that is good but I cant imagine that your smartphone is rendered useless for receiving messages or media while on wifi.
Does anyone know why the contact number will not register when I receive a sms message (Samsung SIII or SHV-E210L) . Also how to rectify this problem?

Try clearing data of the messaging app in setting>applications manager. Think it should fix it.

Try using an aftermarket app such as "Go SMS Pro" (it's free).
Does the problem still occur?

Problem with 3G
Hello,
I have this strange problem with my SHV-E210L, when I lose the carrier signal (i go in my garage for example), and when my phone finds the signal again, i can't get back automatically the data network (3G or G). then i must use the airplane mode or switch off the phone to recover the data network. Does anybody have this problem?
Thanks for your help

Maybe you have install an app killer, which will activate to stop your data network.

Hello, after updating my VRZ SG4 to the 5.0.1 lolipop i can't send txt messages. Everything else works fine,i can receive txt but cant send it.
Is there anything i can do to fix this proble. I am using my phone with different carrier, not verizon.
Thank you in advance.

The issue has to do with 4G/LTE. If the phone is in any other mode (3G, H+, etc...) the texts send. There is something goofy with the 4G/LTE.
Hmm, but the texts worked when the phone was on kit kat???
Im having a similar issue with incoming and outgoing calls not working even with full 4G. I can send/receive text messages and use Internet. I've been through two Sim cards and it hasn't fixed the issue. Has been doing this for 3 weeks now.
I'm having this issue, is there a work around for the texts?
just found out a workaround ... download app called Advance Signal Status from play store, and change your Network setting in the app to WCDMA ... everything should work. I know you will not get LTE, but H+ is good enough for speeds, atleast for tmobile.

you have to be rooted. use kingroot
I use heywire app as a workaround for now
It has to do with how Verizon is switching it's plan structure. Lotsa weird stuff happening with Vzw devices. Gov't screwing around.
I fixed by uninstalling verizon messenger+, installing android stock messenger from google apps, and reinstalling verizon messenger app.
