Known issue : Clipboard force closes while copying - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA,
Out of the blue i can't copy anything.
Im on stock unrooted international rom. This issue is also know on android world but i couldn't find it here.
Everytime i want to copy a link or text in any app my phone freezes up for five seconds and than the app in which i try to copy force closes.
I already wiped all the apps caches. Wiped the phone's cache. Nothing works except for a full restore. But I prefer not too.
Anyone got this problem too? And a suggestion to fix this would be very welcome.

Has been a few posts regarding this.... mainly in the q and a forum.
2 options are factory reset.... or if your rooted is something you can freeze testservice or something I'll find the link
Happened to me just before i rooted, but i factory reset before i rooted anyway
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706921

I had this issue when I was on stock. Came on really suddenly, and the paste option refused to appear even if I knew there was something on the keyboard. Massive pain. Unfortunately I never fixed it.
Clipboard working just fine on CM10 'alpha'.

I had this issue and it was just a matter of clearing out the clip board cache to fix it.
Give it a google and there's a few guides.

Well i cleared the clipboard cache and it didnt fix anything.
As far as i know my only options are a hard reset or a method woch requires root acces.
Does rooting your device void your warranty and raise the flash counter?

[Q] Anyone have any tips about this?

Now my head i about to explode
Anyhow, I have an annoying problem.
Before the upgrade to XXALF6 I noticed no problem other than the known drainage of the battery in idle mode.
I rooted and flashed a ROM and it was ok.
But I got sick of the ROM and I hard reset the phone.
No problems.
Then I upgraded to XXALF6 - still unrooted and all.
First thing I notice is that the phone is lagging a bit now and then. Then when I sent and recieved an SMS or two the phone hung and rebooted.
I seems that happend because when vibration was active.
Also there was a new message saying "com.google.process.gapps" stopped working. And that came up again and again.
As far as I could find online that had to do with syncing the calendar and it should help to clear calendar cache in the phone. It did not.
Then I rooted the phone, just "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4", no other ROM.
Now the problem was even worse and also the sound stops working on and off all the time.
I tried to find the "com.google.process.gapps" with a file explorer with no luck.
I do find it in ROM Toolbox but its not possible to see the where on the phone the file is even there. Also its not possible to uninstall or even kill the process.
I did notice there seem to be doubles of some apps that I didnt notice previously to flashing CF-Root this time.
And I recall the new guide never mentions to wipe any phone data whatsoever during rooting the phone, and now I am thinking that maybe that should have been in the guide?
Anyhow.. appreciate ANY tips at all, Im so sick of this for the moment ^^
Go to cwm recovery, wipe cash, wipe dalvik cash, wipe data/factory reset, then go to mounts&storage, format system. Then put your phone into the download mode and flash ROM again with odin. This should give you a nice and clean install, without any force closes..

I did wipe all things, cache, Dalvik, battery and user data with CWM.
At the moment it seems the phone is quite okay actually! The only thing left is SU.
U think I have to format system as well? What else would really be "cleaned" out that wasn't allready with the wipes?
Trust me,some of the devs insisted on formating system before flashing their custom roms, and I did have a bunch of force closes, until I decided to go their way and fully format the phone. It then installs everything from the scratch,so there's no way anything to go wrong.. give it a try,and report back... btw. make sure that you DO NOT restore any of the system data,if you use TB

Yeah I pretty much learnt same way as predja it is always better to do full system wipe, it is not always necessary with some roms but if you do it you won't come across the problems you have as often.

Thanks.
I have edited my post and added more info.
So... is this solved?
I guarantee if it isn't it would be by wiping data/factory reset + wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache and flashing the latest version of a reputable ROM.

I think so as well. If not fixed by that then the only other alternative is a hardware fault.

I have done these three wipes befor flashing the last rom.
But could you suggest me a reputable ROM. and post its link please.
Well it sounds like an .apk problem.
Try: WanamROM for stock or RootBox2.1 if you want to go down the AOKP/CM10 route.
> G S II Android development. I'm sure you can find them yourself.
What is an apk problem?
I am having exactly the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2. I bought mine at T-mobile, it is a T-mobile branded phone, less then a month ago.
I did a factory reset a couple of times. That did not help.
I have not flashed my phone or anything like that. I do not even know what flashing is!

Try to do one of these solutions for the problem
Settings) application) running services) show cached process) camera) stop and clear data. Test your camera.
or
Settings Select Applications / Manage Apps Select Manage Applications Select All Select Camera and/or Android Camera Select Force Stop and Clear Data Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
or
If that did not work, please do a Google services reset:
Please go to Settings Select Applications Select Manage Applications Select All Select Google Services Framework Select Clear Data. Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
I still have the problem but maybe it will work for you.
I hope it will
Thanks a lot for your advice. Unfortunately it didn't work
What I find weird,is if I clear all data,it says 0.0 kb but after restarting my phone,it says 4.0 kb. Like it didn't cleared any camera data?
I am afraid there isn't anything left for me to do then go to a Samsung servicepoint....

I deleted all the files and directories in storage and then did a factory reset.
After that I can use the camera for a short while.
When I rebooted the phone, the camera goes blank screen again :crying:
So, anyway, this is likely a software problem and not hardware.

Are you quite sure its a software problem?
I've been facing this quite a few months. Problem started a few months after rooting with CF-Root and flashing Cyanogenmod 9 nightly(was working fine for few months). Since then have reflashed kernel (tried many Siyah kernels). It would work a while then become black screen again then again work sometimes.
Flashed Cyanogenmod 10. Would work intermittently now and then.
Finally flashed to stock official ICS ROM. Didn't help. Works for a while after the wipe and again a while if i do factory reset. But problem still persists.
Let me know if you find a solution. I'm really frustrated

Unfortunately, settings has stopped

I have an i777, with ICS 4.0.3. It's an AT&T ROM, rooted via kernel replacement. If I open settings, then tap 'More...' settings stops with the error message in the subject. I can't get to any of the settings under 'More...' because of this. The phone seems to work just fine otherwise.
It's not bothering me too much, since the phone doesn't seem to have any other problems, but can anyone give me any advice on fixing this? Thanks...

ive never had this issue with any of the roms i have used. but maybe try clearing the cache partition and dalvik cache, or just do a whole reset and clear both caches and re-flash the rom.

I'm pretty sure that would not only wipe his memory, but also replace the kernel with the stock ICS one again, thus eliminating root.
OP, what kernel did you use to root? It might help us figure this out, though I've never heard of anything like this and I don't think many others have either.
yeah sounds like you need to wipe. do a full wipe and try again.

Issues when returning to stock

Looking for a little help please.
Trying to return to stock and I have flashed 2 different stock roms from samfirmware, nd each time when booted it tells me messenger has stopped working.
If I open the app it force closes.
Any idea what might be causing this? I need it back to stock ASAP as I am selling the phone.
It's starting to give me a real headache at the moment
Thanks in advance

Re root your device with cfroot. Before flashing back to stock run triangle away and then go into cwm, wipe factory reset and then go to mounts and storage and format system and then data. Go to advance clear dalvik cache and then go into download mode and flash stock again. This should help,I flagged back to stock following this procedure today and it worked a charm.

did you do factory reset ?

i did a factory reset but not sure if it all went through properly. gonna root and triangle away now and report back. thanks guys
sounds like it you didn't wipe data/cache!
I've gotten that error many times also. It has nothing to do with the wipe. Just install the same ROM over again. Installing again take care of it. Good luck!

"Process android.process.media has stopped" after JB update

Hey guys, I can't even use my phone after the official update of the Jelly Bean (via Kies). After booting, the phone freeze almost completely and pop-up this message. Any fix without reseting ? I tried cleaning the cache but the problem isn't fixed
If anybody had this issue, can give me an idea about how to fix it ? Thanks
Try clearing its data in app manager
Nop, can't find it. I tried cleaning most of data but nothing works :/ Damn...is Samsung able to do something without bugs ?
that's why no one uses kies
Factory reset or download an Odin version and flash with Odin

Yeah, I like to root, but not to change the rom Now I need to root again. At least the issues has been solved.
Fixing permissions usually solves that problem barring that a full wipe and start again.

As I got the official update, I lost the root, I tried to clear the cache and as I've seen that is not working and the phone was freezing each 5 seconds I got a bit scared to start rooting it. I wiped it, installed my apps and now everything is ok. However, it's weird that I didn't got the apps automatically installed like it's happened last time when Amazon replaced my S3 for some screen issues (some scratches inside the screen). I just added my google account and everything started installing automatically. Not this time...
just downloaded jelly bean tonight and having this issue. has anyone come up with a solution that does not involve a full hardware restart???
Had same problem after I updated 3 months ago. I think was an incompatibility with an app or something has not updated completely. Fixed it with factory reset.
You can backup apps with Samsung Kies I think if you don't want to lose progress in games, the other stuff is automatically synced
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I'm afraid it'll probably have to be a full reset just make sure you've backed up.
