I did an OTA upgrade to LG8 and Rooted with CF-Root6.4 and now every time I reboot it shows the "Android is upgrading" message, so anyone know how to fix this without reflashing Rom because I won't be home until next week.
Try to remove the synchronization with samsung account , if there is still a notification, you have to do a wipe date , factory reset ....
unable to update after root
why did i can run the OTA after root? is it normal? the clockwork recovery said the the signature was not recognized.
Fundamental element in order to be able to complete the update process of the Galaxy is to have a firmware entirely original.
If you have on your phone a test version, root permissions enabled or a modified kernel installed (e.s. , CF-Root) will be unable to update.

Root no OTA update as per then thousand posts .

I was Rooted when I got the OTA update and apart from this problem which isn't really a problem it all went through fine, so guess I'll just wait and use Odin to see if it fixes.

I have the GT-I9300 international phone, with the New Zealand-based stock ROM installed. I rooted this phone with ODIN straight out of the box (it came on 4.0.4) and the root went fine, CWM worked. However, when I was notified of an available OTA update, no matter how many times I try to install it, the device will reboot into CWM and say that the signature verification has failed.
I have tried to disable this check, but the device seems to "forget" that setting. I've also tried installing the OTA update through Kies, which just gives an "Unknown Error".
Is there any solution to this, to get the update installed?
I'm presuming here that the OTA update is simply an update and not a new firmware version entirely? The download was only 20MB.
Kies is your solution
Or downloading and flashing an updated firmware
OTA doesn't work on rooted phones...
At least it didn't on the ones I used and tried...

If your phone is just rooted then OTA will work fine, the issue is when you install a custom recovery.
the OTA will fail at the flashing stage because the custom recovery will not be able to flash the OTA image (or the image won't let it).
Options are to use Kies, or better yet, download the rom on your PC and learn to use ODIN which is super easy anyway... and essential if you want to learn the root side of your phone better
Latest Chainfire root supposed to allow OTA .

Title says it all. I understand it screws up the search function (but can be fixed with an APK reload, but will the OTA cause any other issues?
huh I didn't get a software update.. and I just checked.... none for me on AT&T
If you are rooted with a stock rom, you can not install the update because you are rooted. There are 2 ways to install the update 1) unroot your phone, accept the update, and reroot your phone or 2) flash a custom factory rom with the update already installed.
And yes the update does disable the universal search on your phone and not sure if there are any other issues.

Future ROMs will have the update, right? So, if we wanted to, we could just wait?
After i rooted my SGS3 with latest Jelly Bean firmware, i can't receive updates anymore, every time try to check updates i get "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available" Can i fix this one some way without losing root, or i need to unroot my device?
As JB isn't available yet except for poland then you will need to go back to ICS, reset flash counter and unroot.... Basically you're taking it back to stock.... Then Kies will allow updates, but only to what is currently available for your rom version/country.....
So you could still end up restocking and not being able to upgrade to JB as "There are no updates for your current version"....

It is just some kind of disclaimer from Samsung, but if you flash an official rom you'll continue to receive official updates.
same i'm also like that after flash JB "Your device has been modified", so i just wipe all my data and reflashed, problem solved, the big problem for is after reflashed JB, stock music played cannot find any music on ext SDCARD

I have updated my SGS3 to official UK Jelly Bean OTA update, and after rooting it the software update service complains about the device being modified also. Not too bothered about it at the moment but will probably be a pain in the butt once new updates will be released (although knowing Samsung, it will be quite some time before the next one).

I updated to JellyBean using the OTA update file from Cache but through the 'ever root' method of mobile Odin. I also tried Triangle Away but received the same message before and after. I have now also used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper v2.0.3 to temporarily unroot the device but it still says the same message from the update screen.
So much for being friendly to the modding community!
Here's how i fixed my S3

1. You need to unroot your phone.(you could find it in youtube)
2. then perform factory reset
Every bug in the rom fixed and software update works like charm....
cannot update

I have not done anything to my phone other than update it to 4.1.1. Now I get the message that it has been modified and cannot receive updates.
How can I fix this, as it was never rooted.
Thanks
Try this if ur device has a SD card.
1. Go to Settings
2. Storage
3. Unmount SD card
4. Restart your Device
5. After restart go to Check Updates
..may solve the issue..

AW: [Q] Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available?
If you want to root your phone, use Framaroot recommended.
When you open the app, there is a list: Root with Superuser; SuperSU and Unroot.
Root with SuperSU is recommended.
If you have a I9300 take the SAM-Exploit, if I9305 the FRODO-Exploit.
If it don't work, try the other Exploit
It won't change your FlashCounter!
And when you want to unroot your phone you have to go in SuperSU, Settings, scroll down and click Full Unroot.
If your device status is Modified anymore, reflash StockROM and wipe your data!

Possible solution for rooted stock ROMs
I had the same problem with my GT-I9505, update from XXUBMEA to the latest XXUBMGA. Previously I rooted XXUBMEA and I was getting the "Device has been modified message". TriangleAway saved me at the end, I enabled the "Allow tracker to run" option, rebooted and after that I succesfully updated the stock firmware via OTA. Unfortunately the phone is not rooted anymore even the "ota survival" option in Superuser didn't save it.
I have 4.1.1 Jellybean on my phone, is unlocked, an had no trouble updating to 4.1.1 from ICS. Now that my phone shows "Updates Available", downloads them files( I think), but does not install and rather says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". The new updates I have seen in my mate's phone are good, and as he told me he had no trouble updating to it unlike mine.
What is the problem and the best way to solve this issue?
Also I'd like to ask, if I used Odin to update it manually, will I be able to update my phone with later releases without having to use Odin again?

You answered your question yourself...modified = no ota update. Go back to stock unmodified or easier, download the new version from xda or sammobile and flash via odin

Well i don't know what you mean with "unlocked" . If you mean rooted then it's easy :fingers-crossed:. You might have rooted with CF-Root or Toolbox or whatever. And in that process you were forced to install Clockworkmod Recovery and that's the reason you can't get OTA. If you want to have a rooted phone and OTA all you have to do is. Root your phone, stay on stock rom and flash the stock recovery via odin. But this means you loose CWM Recovery and a lot of the fun part about a rooted phone is gone.

What part of "Unlocked" is confusing to you? It means the phone can run any sim card of any sim provider, thats what I meant, and no, the phone is not rooted or never even have tried rooting it... Never mind, I factory reset the phone and the update is done. Anyways kudos for your reply
Cheers!
My Nexus 9 is stock, un-rooted with an unlocked bootloader.
I have received the OTA update but when it reboots it gets part way through then shows "error" with and android on his back. I have downloaded the OTA file from AndroidPolice and tried flashing via adb sideload.
It attempts to verify the current system but then errors with the following message:
Package expects build fingerprint of google/volantis/flounder:5:/LRX21L/1546449:user/release-keys or google/volantis/flounder:5:/LRX21Q/1573789:user/release-keys; this device has google/volantis/flounder:L:/LFW73W/1491895:user/release-keys

As I have an unlocked bootloader i've just flashed the recovery from the factory image and then applied the OTA update (mostly to see if it would work, otherwise i'd have continued with factory image). It's booting up now. I guess Google will need to push a new OTA that updates from this version... a bit of a screw up though!
