Can't record video (st15i) - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I used to be able to record videos without a problem on my Mini st15i, but the other day, as I switched from photo to video in the camera app, it crashed with the usual "com.sonyericsson.android.camera has stopped etc." I tried rebooting, wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, but nothing changed. I can still take photos, but if i switch to video i get the crash.
Unfortunately I haven't used the video recording for a couple of months, so I don't know when the problem actually started. The only mods I did since then are in the framework (minimod1.8 for toggles bar) or installation of MegaBass, or some tweaks in the build.prop. Else, I still use the stock 2.3.4 with .62. I was thinking of re-installing the camera app but I don't know where to find it.

Bump =(

Just flash a stock rom...
It'll be fine...

Remove build.prop lines that you've added. Maybe that will do the trick

I tried putting back the default build.prop but nothing...before I do a factory reset, what if I just reinstall or replace the camera.apk?

Problem is propably in Megabass, audio libs can break camera too. Factory reset won't help. Do backup in TitaniumBackup and flash stock firmware.

But if I do a backup, flash, then restore the backup, won't I get back the corrupt data?

Do backup of apps, messages and settings in Titanium Backup. It won't restore any broken libs.

Ok thanks!

Sometimes when camera or recording isn't working, LgCamera could work.

Front Facing Camera and 2.3.4

I've installed KennethPenn's ROM for 2.3.4 and loving it, however whenever I try to change my camera to front facing mode, it fails and causes the camera to FC.
Is anyone else seeing this issue or is it possible that I simply have a defective/corrupted com.camera module?
TIA for any advice/solutions.
im runnings kens rom, faux kernal, and front facing camera works fine...have your tried using QIK and see if it fc's?
I hate to say, but it works fine for me also.
No issues with mine either....did you freeze anything?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
OK...thanks. I'm reflashing the ROM now. I hadn't seen others complain about it, so I figured it was likely just me.
Love 2.3.4!
Hmmm....after fresh flash, I still can't get the front facing camera to work. Fails and FC. I'll have to look into after I restore things.
I just verified that my front facing camera has no issues on KP's 2.3.4 beta 3.
Just tested. Working fine for me on beta 4.5

OK...so apparently I have a corrupted file for my camera app or a hardware issue. Any thoughts on how to repair/replace?
Error: The application Camera (process com.motorola.Camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
The regular camera seems to be working fine, otherwise. Just freezes when I go to front cam (same thing happens in QIK), then I get the error.
Used KennethPenn's Rom .... going back to 1.83 safe?
Maybe you missed something. Here are the instructions I followed on 3 occasions now to flash 2.3.4 beta 3:
reboot into CWM
do a complete wipe( this order, DALVIK, CACHE, factory)
install beta 3
do another complete wipe
install the root zip
reboot and quickly press up to start in RSD mode
flash the new radio reboot in CWM
wipe cache and dalvik
Maybe following this procedure will help you.
<edit> If you follow this, and get reboots when installing apps from the Market, what worked for me was boot into CWM, wipe Dalvik, cache, and factory reset, install root.zip again, then wipe Dalvik, cache, and factory reset again, then reboot. Should fix that issue.
I'll give it a try.
I think when I restored from Ti b/u, it just rewrote the fault. I'll uncheck the camera app for the next restore
What do you mean by install beta 3 do wipe then install root.zip ???? I only have beta 4.5.

you shouldn't restore ANY of your system apps from TiBu if going between OS versions.
Well...reinstalled with lots of cache wipes, and first thing I did was (after initial motoblur stuff) to try the camera....no dice. Looks as if it's bad.
I think going back to stock and calling Moto for a replacement might be in order

Why dont you just take the data/app com.motorola.Camera
and the system/app/BlurCamera.apk
and system/app/BlurCamera.odex
from one of these peoples working phones, then paste them into their according directories on your phone. Should fix it.
Edit: also, you will probably need system/framework/com.motorola.hardware.frontcamera

Agree with above completely! This is what caused me to have FCs with the contact manager. When I used TiBu to restore, I only restored my apps + data, not system apps. Worked like a charm.

Anyone with a working copy of Ken's 2.3.4 want to email me the files?

I would either pm ken or pm one of the people on the first page ( or all of them! Haha ) asking for the specific files. I would but im on bell.
Cheers
Did you search logcat and dmesg? Probably there is some info about what is the problem.

[Q] Factory reset question

I am rooted on stock touchwiz rom. I have done a few tweaks such as the swapping of internal memory for external, editing some CSC feature files to enable the sound on/off menu in camera. I've enabled the multi-view for all my apps and have added the wifi toggle my notification dropdown.
After not having an issue prior, I noticed the other day Instagram force closes every time I try to open it and does so immediately. I have deleted and re installed many times and several different ways, i.e with Titanium Backup. I haven't been able to find any real suggestions on how to fix it, so was thinking of doing a factory reset. I have backed up everything using Titatanium and plan on using that to restore my phone back to how it was.
I know I wont lose root after the factory reset, but will I lose all those other tweaks that I mentioned in the beginning? And will restoring from a Titanium backup just re-apply the problem that caused Instagram to force close thus putting me back to square one? Has anyone else had any trouble with Instagram crashing?
Thanks in advance guys!

I don't use Instagram so I can't comment on experiencing crashing from it. I can say that I've had some issues restoring apps with Titanium Backup. More often than not though, when I re-installed, the problem was solved. If you do a factory reset, you'll lose any adjustments you've made, except for adjustments that are included in the rom firmware itself.
Based off of the tweaks you listed, you may just want to check out Bean's Revision 4 (flashable using TWRP). Just make sure you've unlocked your bootloader. Bean's REV 4 has the option to automatically run all of the tweaks you added manually. It's actually a really nice, clean rom.

Hey thanks for the insight. I know I should probably unlock my bootloader. After coming from a Nexus, I got burned out from flashing ROMs and keeping up with the latest builds so with this phone I told myself I'm gonna try and keep it stock, which progressed to just rooting, then doing more and more tweaks. I'm a sucker for tinkering.

Judging by the content of the MOD zip file you cannot just replace the camera itself, there are a lot of other files related to it, but I've uploaded them anyway

Like I've said, it's probably not that easy, there are a lot of other binary/java files involved.
Do you have stock firmware or a MOD, stock kernel or custom?

If you have the FW ftf maybe you can try flashing system.sin only.
I think you should wipe dalvik cache before you do, perhaps cache too.
Of course you will lose root and CWM.
If that doesn't work you may need to re-flash the whole firmware.
Be sure to backup all your data before you attempt to do it, if you do.

I use stock ROM and kernel, removed all apps I don't use, disabled some that cannot be removed and froze some that cannot be disabled.
Removed all apps that came with stock, freezed a few and installed some scripts to save battery that's about it
I dont have P and JB, i have U with ICS but some time ago i wanted to uninstall Cybershot 4.72 without re-flashing everything so i made an Cybershot v4.72 uninstall script that removed every file from Cybershot 4.72, and then i restored the original files for my stock camera and everything worked fine without re-flashing...
I will attach my uninstall script (cwm flashable on ICS Xperia U) but i don't know if there is a separate v4.72 for JB or its the same as for ICS, so... that's your home-work, im just giving you an direction

[Q] Flash JellyBean through ODIN = Reset?

So,

Flashing a JB firmware via Odin will usually NOT wipe ur data. But if you upgrade from ICS to JB without a factory reset (or full wipe), you are bound to face issues like crashes, freezes, lagginess, instability and poor battery life. So, a factory reset is recommended before or after flashing JB. You can backup all ur apps, contacts, calendar entries, messages, bookmarks, notes, call log etc before flashing. Your files, photos, videos etc will be safe.

Yeah.. problem is I can't open any app cause I get the "app has unexpectedly stopped"... So I can't backup anything.. I've searched for a solution but it seems like the only option is to factory reset
When going from ICS to JB is best to TB all your stuff, go for wipes and and put in the new one. Then you can TV all your stuff back (titanium back that is)

[Q] Crashing camera pls help me restore!

Ever since i tried the 20mp superior auto xposed module, my camera app force closes a lot of time. I tried to replace campea apk files, wipe cache exc exc. Upgraded to .314 now but its still FC for me.
Yeah i know a fresh flashtool install would solve this easily, but atm i dont have the time to setup every program and settings how i like again.
Any fix for this? Maybe flashable camera app?

Use titanium backup or a nandroid backup if you have a custom recovery installed. A factory reset is the best way to solve it. However u may try using other camera apps or uninstallind the xposed module (or xposed framework itself) to see if they might help.

Use Backup and Restore app to backup all apps+data then Factory Reset or Flash new FTF then restore.
Backup and Restore app is a native app to Sony Xperia Z2 devices w/o root needed.
