Possible bad radio? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I believe my I777 could possibly have a bad radio because for instance when I'm texting sometimes I'll have to send a text 3 or 4 times and a picture will almost never go though but I have full bars. Is there a way to test if your radio has gone bad?

what is ur baseband version????
check ur baseband version.....if u were on ICS and back to gingerbread then ur baseband will still be UCLE5 and not UCKH7 which has good reception

I have kk6 version. I will put on UCLE5 and see if it changes. I'm using the CM apn's that come with cm9

Very DEPENDENT on region. Try flashing a new modem, I found UCKK6 works best for my area.

I was using KK6 but I was testing multiple modems found that to be a good one for speed and battery consumption. I also tested KH7 and it had a good battery drain on the phone thats why I went back to KK6 BTW UCLE5 in my area no mobile data connection.
It wasnt KH7 I was testing with it was kj4 that consumed alot of battery I'll try KH7
UPDATE: Flashed KH7 just permanent no signal...

Um now any modem I flash there is no signal I think my radio just blew out It's not getting anything now. Got it back.

K well flash a different modem. It might also be your APN's Also are you sure you are flashing the Sammy modems on sammy rom/ AOSP modems on a AOSP rom?

Should I try going back to stock and testing if signal is still bad? Or does a rom make a difference. AOSP on AOSP and how do I check to see if APN's are good? Like do you have a reference of a working one? KK6 I have signal and data.

Just go back to stock. There are stickies in the Dev forums so you can go check that out.

Maybe it's an issue with at&t in your area. They like to say there's nothing wrong when in fact there is a problem.

[Q] 900MHz 3G on CM7?

I'm on a network that provide 3G on only 900MHz. I could connect throgh 3G before I flashed CM7 with Radio Baseband N_01.100.00R. I had tried Bell N_01.77.33p but still can't connect just only EDGE.
How can I fix this?
There's another radio 1.97.00 or something like that. Don't remember the numbers ATM. Check around for it and see what it says about compatibility.

Well ****. Sorry about that. Most people had better luck with that radio. Guess you are one of the few that didn't.
Have you tried going back to the N_01.100.00R ?

Galaxy S2 Cannot connect to data network

My Galaxy S2 is on the stable release of CM9. Randomly today I looked at it to check some notifications, and found I had no data. This persists no matter where I am or what the signal is at. I can have maximum bars and text/call but data isn't working at all. I have data on under networks and don't understand why this is suddenly happening. Any thoughts?

Not sure what APNs are in all honesty. I have been on stable CM9 since its release day and have never had a problem until today. Tried a reflashing of the rom, a new kernel, and another new rom. Still nothing and I'm back on CM9 again now with no data. Do you think these APNs are the issue?
Just read up on APNs controlling your mobile data a bit. I think I have a basic understanding of it. How can I check if my APN is wrong and if it is how do I fix it?

Where you at? My wife and I both lost data tonight in southern California. Odds are ATT is doing something with their network in certain areas. I didn't notice it until I tried sending a picture message. Then the wife came home complaining her data wasn't working. Same deal, full signal. So yeah, probably not a problem with your phone, but the network itself.

i'm having a very similar issue. my gs2 was functioning until approximately 8pm. i was actually just eating dinner and realized that i couldn't connect to anything. i'm able to receive phone calls, text messages, utilize the net using my wifi, but can't receive mms or connect to the net by 3g/hsdpa. as far as i know i haven't made any changes to my apn but i did check and they appear to be correct. i tried rebooting my phone, setting it on airplane and off, and still no success. not sure if it matters but i'm running task's aokp version 7.3.2012 but i haven't reflashed or added new mods/apps in several weeks. also i'm in los angeles. at this point, i'm holding off on reflashing my phone and hoping it's just the network.
I had a similar problem witcm i finally flash jb the super nexus double checked my apns an poof i had data again. If you want to know where to find your apns look under your wireless settings choose mobile networks then access point names make sure you have att there or whatever carrier yiu are using

Glad it's just the network being down. But, as for APNs: (this is for task's aokp, but the process will be extremely similar on other ROMs)
System settings
More (dependent upon ROM)
Mobile networks
Access Point Names (APNs)
There is a thread dedicated to the "correct" APNs somewhere around here. Could give those a try and see if they help you out in low signal/slow areas.

I've had the same issue. Although I'm in Australia and im on the Virgin network my SG2 data connection ability is not working.
However i only just recently upgraded it to the 4.1.2 JB using the link from this site.
Has anyone had this problem?
I tried the first time without rooting my phone and it Did't work. So i factory reset the phone to 4.0.3 ICS and everything was okay.
I then rooted the phone and used the link XDA provides, followed the instructions to the T and updated the phone to 4.1.2 JB but not my Data connection isn't working. Can anyone help?

Is Verizon slowing down data Rom users?

Update: 9/6
So after waiting what seemed like forever I got the call that the network ticket is closed and switched back to jellybeans b21 and like man of you guys suspected my data speeds are still normal. Guess it was just something to do with the way or amount or roms I flashed who knows
So I have been running various ROMs since release of the note 2 (maybe stock for about a week) and recently my data speeds on 3g started being really slow.
So I called Verizon support about it and they always gave me some run around about my coverage area had me do device resets ect...
Well It finally came down to them sending me a new sim card to see if it resolved the issue. After activating the sim I did some data tests and it was still slow around 120kbps.
This is when it got interesting the rep asked me for the Baseband version in the about phone settings to make sure I was running the newest software. Since I had updated the Radios manually I told her i605vramc3 just like I told the last rep that asked. She replied "That's odd that isn't what our system is showing" then she transferred me to the next level of tech support.
This rep decided to open a network ticket and asked a lot of questions about my preferred network and signal strength as well as some location information. He told me that network engineers would be looking at the towers and possibly running some remote diagnostics on my phone.
Fearing that the remote diagnostic would give away that I was rooted and running a custom ROM I shut down the phone and pulled the battery until I reverted to stock.
Now just for fun I loaded up speed test and where I was getting 75-100kbps I am now pulling a hearty 1500-2300kbps in the same place.
To be clear this is not just a problem I experienced with a single rom the problem persisted across about 5 ROMs PA, Aokp, Cleanrom ace, and Jelly beans as well as a few different kernels.
So my here is my question Is there some other explanation for this behavior? or Has Verizon figured out how to throttle data for ROM users?
Is Anyone else seeing this issue?
Once I am notified about the network ticket being closed I plan to re-root and start from my freshly updated system and see if there is any difference. I will update this post with my findings.
I think what fixed your device data speed was reflashing back to stock via odin. I have had wierd issues with data speeds flashing radios via recovery...a simple odin session always seems to fix it.
Have you tried flashing all of the roms you mentioned after going back to stock each time?
Im in the Louisville KY area and have consistently gotten between 40mbps to 65mbps. I've used cleanROM Jedi pacman tons of others. Not ran into a problem yet.
I've got some pics if you want proof. Holla!
Consistently. In Las Vegas and on cm10.2

Haha. I hate New Jersey. I live in PA thankfully. I think there is some type of interference at work. Calls are choppy too. Even with the signal strength at 70dbm. I can go a mile down the road and get 36-40 download speeds.

I haven't tried flashing after going back to stock but I plan on doing so once the network ticket is closed on my account. I am just a bit freaked out by the possibility of them doing a remote diagnostic on my phone while on a rom

[Q] New to the note - help with T-Mobile

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the Note, but definitely not new to Android or XDA.
I've got the phone "unlocked" via the radio trick here: http://str8pt.blogspot.com/2013/06/unlock-simfree-method-for-galaxy-note.html
I've rooted it, and have tried a few different ROMs with different radios.
The Blaze radio (and others) I mention are from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679722
I am in Melbourne, FL in case location makes any difference.
Here's what I am seeing:
CyanogenMOD 10.1.3 - using Blaze ICS radio I am getting only EDGE speeds. Using "Official TMO ICS Radio" (I'm guessing it's the one from the TMO Note?) , I get NO connectivity.
Stock 4.1.2 - using Blaze ICS radio I am getting 4G, however the signal meter is totally empty as if there's just enough signal to register connectivity but not enough to register a single bar. Download speeds are abysmal in comparison to other TMO phones I've used here - I am seeing downloads at around 1.5MB - other phones are 6, 7, even 8 MB.
My question are as follows:
Using CyanogenMod, should I be using the i717 version? Or the TMO Note version? Is there anything I can do with ANY particular radio to get better than EDGE?
Using the Stock ROM (or a variant), is there are a way to get the signal cluster to function properly? Any way to get better download speeds?
I read that the TMO 4.0.4 stock ROM image can be installed via ODIN and apparently it works correctly (if I am reading correctly) - would the TMO 4.1.2 stock ROM image be installed via ODIN and work as well? (If I can even find a full download of it?)
Should I expect to have to re-flash the radio each time with each ROM? From what I've seen, if I don't, I lose any ability to get 4G until I flash it again. I'd be stuck on EDGE.
Thanks so much guys! I've searched and read till my eyes are crossing and not finding the answers I need. I hope that with the experience that can be found in this forum maybe I can get where I need to be!
Thanks again!

I recently obtained an I717 too, unlocked it, and got it functioning with my tmobile prepaid plan. I'm still on gingerbread rom and using KID radio with decent success. just 4G , using WCDMA band 1700 (*#2263#). I get consistent decent speeds but not LTE.
The hands down best modem to use is UCMB4 - Google it. But it can cause problems with some jelly bean ROMs.
If you want jb more than anything, play with modems. If you want speed AND stability, go jellybean sandwich or black star X with the aforementioned modem.
If you want WiFi calling download skeleton key.
Ucmb4 with any of those three and the proper APN will get you LTE as fast as it's offered in your area

Looks like you're right - here's just 4 radios that I just tested:
UCMB4 - EDGE only
UVLG3 - 3G/DC(WTF??)/H+ 6.01Mbps up/1.07 Mbps down
UVLE1 - Phone freezes, locks on black screen, had to pull battery
ICSBLAZE - 3G/DC/H+ Network communication issues message when running speedtest.
By the way, what the heck is "DC" on the network indicator where 3G or H/H+ normally is? I've never seen that before!

By the way, just checked and CM's WiFi tethering is working as well - nice!
Not sure what I did differently this time but this evening the signal indicator is showing real signal strength, equivalent to what I was seeing on another phone on CM.

If you're on a modem that'll work with LTE, yep. Otherwise HSPA or Edge.
Make sure, I forget and my Note no longer has service, that the top option is set under Network Type or whatever it is. Network Mode? I don't know, you'll figure it out. The thing that lets you pick between GSM, WCDMA etc..etc..

Ok, I got it figured out. I am on the FAST APN and set to WCDMA/LTE . I'm on 3G/H+ here in the house now - will see how it goes when I head out tomorrow.
Either way, I think it's time to make a backup - it's running marvelously and doing everything I would expect it to!
NOTE: Newest PAC ROM (4.3) running smoothly with UVLG3 modem on T-Mobile without issue
[EDIT]
Scratch that - it worked great until I did the first reboot - then it wouldn't boot up again, even with a battery pull.

I use UCMD3 and get LTE almost everywhere. Hellybean is a pretty good ROM, try it out!

Better AT&T reception on a T-mobile handset?

So like allot of people in here, I sold off my AT&T S5 and scooped up a T-MO S5 for the obvious reasons. What i've noticed is that i get insanely awesome reception everywhere i go with this t-mo phone. At work i would pull down about 3-4 bars of LTE on my ATT S5 and now i get full LTE all day long without the thing fluctuating once. Not a huge difference but still nice to see. This also goes for just about everywhere i go, full bars galore. Anyone else noticing this? Either way it's just another perk along with root and my custom ROM!!:victory:

At work i would pull down about 3-4 bars of LTE on my ATT S5 and now i get full LTE all day long without the thing fluctuating once. Not a huge difference but still nice to see. This also goes for just about everywhere i go, full bars galore. Anyone else noticing this? Either way it's just another perk along with root and my custom ROM!!:victory:

Bars means nothing. Always check and compare using the dbm menu.:good:
The T-Mobile S5 will show five bars for a -99dbm signal. That in reality should be about 2-3 bars.

I don't know about that ; however the TMobile modem has more bands like LTE 900Mhz, HSPDA/AWS 1700Mhz

It does. It's a fact. When I have a -99dbm signal, my phone shows 5 bars. Then 4 bars with anything below -110dbm. I am assuming T-Mobile did it this way because their LTE is extremely weak, and they want you to think you have a good signal, when you really don't.

dbm alone when talking about LTE is a somewhat artificial number without context . RSSI and RSRP will indicate something more meaningful to the signal quality. -99dbm RSRP would be closer to -79 dbm RSSI and is a strong signal .
I am currently at -95dbm RSRP and am pulling phenomenal results.

Don't install the new modem. It causes a problem for ATT users.

I'll wait until the new modem is thoroughly tested with AT&T. It can't be that bad.

Thanks for the heads up, I am on TMO not ATT , but I think I'll still hold off until I see more results. Seems a lot of ppl are having lower download speeds.

I wonder if this new slow download modem issue on G900T tmobile devices on ATT networks has anything to do with ATT lighting band 29 LTE on 700 now?

Download speeds went from 25+Mps to 1.5Mps.
Wow. I'm glad I still have my original modem. I wonder why they would do that. Unless they don't want people taking their devices over to AT&T?

We really don't know if this is really happening to everyone or it's an isolated case...so far it's only been the same couple people reporting it.

I reflashed the ANCH stock Rom and rerooted and am back on the ANCH modem. Got my speeds back up
This is not an isolated case. There are problems with the new Modem. Go to the Development section. Beanstown has a new thread with all the Modems, firmware, and stock roms.. Try different modems, many times they function differently by location.
