Hello,
easy question: how can I check if all cores are working fine?
If I check with System tuner or other apps I always find 1 or 2 cores online, but I have never seen 3rd and 4th cores working.
How can I check to see if all the 4 cores run correctly when needed?

The app is called "Quick System Info" and also shows real time stats of any core in notification bar.
Do something CPU intensive, THEN look in system panel.
All the cores will be working fine, don't worry.

I've done that thousands times and it always shows the same.
I was just curious.
Silly reply (you didn't need to reply/read, thank you)
Even Games may sometimes not be enough to make pegasusq wake up all cores since the others are not loaded enough.
I think that's a good demonstration of how awesome the Exynos is =) (Actually games usually rely more on the GPU than the CPU)

Hello!
im just wondering if there is anyway to deactivate the dual core?
or is my problem somewhere else? ive noticed that some, actually lots of games and emulators doesnt run on my s2 and i figured this is cause of the dual core?
is there anyway around this, isnt it the dual core? or is there anyway to turn it of (temp ofcourse)
Are you sure it`s not because of the Mali-400MP GPU in the S2, a lot of games designed for the nvidia tegra2`s gpu , you can download a emulator but you need to have root.
Your problems have nothing todo with dual core.
but i didnt need root to play emus on my xperia, so it shouldnt be because of root.
mabye the gpu?
The 2nd core is added and removed as and when needed but it's not your problem.
The problem is that game makers and gpu makers have been using non standard opengl sharers, and Mali only supports the standard ones.
The way to get around this is to use chainfire 3D along with plugins, which you can find via google and in my 4shared in my sig.
There are loads of threads on it, and about which games need which plugins etc.

Bug Village, Inotia 3 and more are not nVidia Tegra games and they do freeze.
Using Chainfire3D doesn't help either.
As for dual core being the problem is really unknown for me. I am thinking along the same lines actually.
Multiple cores might not be used all the time depending on whether the application is multi-threaded or single-threaded. The 2nd core is always there, even if your application doesn't use it. It does not turn off just because the 2nd core is idling away.
Throw it against a wall. That should disable the second core. Just be careful that you don't do it too many times as you may disable both.

Because they are not Tegra games doesn't mean they work with Mali gpu.
And multiple cores won't cause such issues : if the App was not designed with threading, it won't use second use.

Mali GPU might be a sad thing then, either that or these games are badly programed.
It's the games who are badly programmed. They're using Qualcomm's or Nvidia's proprietary textures format, which aren't (officially) supported by the MALI GPU, leading to incompatibilites (even with Chainfire, which is not perfect)
Hi;
My question's is when I check "system info" on Quandrand Benchmark, sometime it shows 2 cord, but most of the time it show 1 cord; does anybody know why; if there's a reason, is there anyway I could set the CPU running 2 cord all the time.
I noticed this the only reason i could grasp was maybe the phone wasnt doing enough work for it to see both cores functioning at the same time when i tried antutu i think thats what its called it showed me 2 cores if i had music running in the back ground if that makes any sense, i presumed it would just show both cores like yourself
Quadrant is NOT optimized for Dual core devices. So whatever it shows doesn't matter.
You've to do nothing to run the device on two cores, it will automatically run when it needs to.

Just to be sure, disable power saving mode before running a benchmark.
This will adapt CPU frequency and number of activated cores to the system need.

You have to flash a compatible kernel to enable this feature.
Lulz Kernel or Siyah Kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838
Then use Tegrak's 2nd Core application from market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tegrak.secondcore
With this app, you can have the cpu run in
1) Dynamic Hotplug Mode, which is the stock behavior where in second core is active only when the load is high.
2) Single core mode, where only one core is active even if load is high.
3) Dual core mode where in the two cores are always active, even at low loads.
Option 2 will give you more battery at the cost of performance.
Option 3 will give you more performance and higher benchmark scores at the cost of battery.
I downloaded 2nd core from market; however non of those option can be highlighted, I am using [email protected] #23 as my kernel.

I got my awesome shiny new XPS yesterday. I am very pleased with it.
But today i began looking at tweaking and customizing it.....but i have noticed something quite disturbing.....
The phone doesnt seem to have both cores active!!!
When i check in "SystemPanel" it shows the list of 2 cores but only shows 1 as active......so i checked with "CPU Usage Monitor" and that lists the phone as only having 1 core?!?!
Is there a geek out there that can help me with this issue?
Is it me being a twot...or is there something that i dont know about?
From what i can tell the second core doesnt come on during gaming or benching.....
Im lost

Could you run benchmark quadrant and post your score here with a screen shot?
That app shows the same here, but linpack shows me 55mflop for single thread and 84 for milti. My quadrant is 3280

You wont see the second core active unless it's needed, when you're looking at the usage windows the mobile doesn't need to use the second core.
Run something like titanium backup as it's a background process at the same time as the usage monitor app.

I have heard a couple of times around the forum that second core is actually underlocked heavily and doesn't kick in even if needed. Is that true?

Nope. Where did you hear this rubbish?
2nd Core does work!!!
I had tested on 2nd Core by using Quadrant Standard...
(I installed SystemPanel Lite to check for CPU)
While the full benchmark is running, long press the home button and then open SystemPanel Lite,
I can see both cores are running fully...
This shows that the 2nd core does work!!!
Gingerbread does not fully utilize both cores. Some apps do. Honeycomb does have dual core support and ics should have proper multicore support.
it's like windows XP and windows vista/7
XP wasn't designed for dualcores but vista and 7 are.
Yeah like the other guys said, people go on about quad cores and stuff, some phones including the Xperia S aren't even using dual cores let alone quad cores unless they are running ICS, when ICS hits then we will.

Hi,
I want to see the power of Snapdragon 800 in terms of chess engine copmutation - droidfish chess app (stockfish 4). Usually on my Note 2 i get ~800knps, galaxy s4 got ~1000knps and i wonder if this new powerful phone as all say it will pass 2000knps mark...
All you need to do is to install droidfish (free) from google play store. Configure it to use 4 cores ("threads" section) - then pick some random chess positions and press 'M' and "Analyze" - that runs the stockfish chess engine to evaluate your position - look at the bottom of the screen - the eval line there contains the knps number (kilo nodes per second) - pls publish it. The higher the better...-
Thanks
From the new game position I'm getting nps: 171k

Hope this helps

Very weird...Can't be my Note 2 is stronger in that.
Can you try this position - let it run 10 seconds on it. Maybe it is somehow limited so you need to enlarge hash table size..?
Clock starts high then throttles down to 1200 or so, knps at 411 now.

Very Very low. For my position i attached it is steady @ 700knps. IF that is true it is very very bad performance.

So 4 cores can't run at 2.26GHz all together....What a shame..
BTW, which tool do you use to see all cpus speed?
Can you check if setting threads to 1 - if it runs at 2.26GHz? Since i get also 171k (starting game position) on 1 thread on weaker cpu....
UPDATE: Just checked with System Monitor App - no cpu speed down on note 2 even regardless number of cores used (1 core runs @ 1.6GHz, 4 cores runs at 1.6GHz (each) either...)
Looks to me like a bug in Snapdragon 600/800 in this kind of load. I never saw LG claim they can't run all 4 cores at 2.26GHz each.
I am using System Panel. When I set threads to 1 it oscillates between 1200 and 2200.
I have seen up to 609k since rebooting.
My Nexus 7 (2012) is a bit slower.

This is screenshot of cpus clock speed on my note 2 which look good as expected (constatly set to max clock rate on each core)
So if we gather all finding so far - the version of galaxy S4 that uses octa-core (NOT snapdragon) also performed WELL on 4 A14 cores - result was ~900-1000knps which is good and higher than note 2 as ecpected. Snapdragon 800 should have beaten both...But it performs poorly - and this is real life scenario for chess players...
It all looks like snapdragon issue or droidfish is not optimized to run on snapdragon - don't know. Yesterday I sent emails to LG & Droidfish developer to comment on that since something is wrong here. No response yet.
It's probably a combo of the gov and scheduler. Difference between the 2. From Samsung. This phone doesn't need to ramp up that high to perform better. And gpu takes a lot off it. Your comparing two completely separate arch and govs

Hi all
I have moved rather upgraded to the S6e and boy am I happy..amazing device. I happened to download cpu spy reborn app from play store and the funny thing was the app showed a max freq of 1500 mhz...am I missing something here or is the app not optimised to measure 8 core setups? Anyone else faced this issue?
From my understanding you need a Kernel that will support Overclocking/ Undervolting.
Now the GS6 has 8 cores.
The first 4 are used for low frequencies 0-1.5 GHz.
The last 4 are used for higher frequencies 0-2.1 GHZ.
Hope that helps.
I'm not sure if that's totally correct but from what I've read that seems to be the case.

It's probably not been updated. Usually you take data from cpu0, but in this case cpu0 only accounts for the A53 cores. Any app would need to also read from cpu4 for the other 4 cores. If it doesn't do that, the app can't know that there are more than 4 cores.
