Clockwork Mod Recovery Issue? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I just installed the newest CWM through the phone emulator. Recovery says that it is the latest version as I installed, but it is not able to access the external SD card anymore? Or sorta, cause I can see of the things there, but if I pick external sd card it says file not found. Not sure what happened. I have tried to unmount and remount sd card. Any ideas?

I noticed the same thing. I'm going back to RA.

I have installed CWM 5.8.4.8 using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639673
Had originally installed CWM using this method:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...-on-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-belltelusrogers/
So is it possible that I didnt update CWM correctly or is it the version that has these issues?

Suggest you revert to the CWM image found in the "note everything" thread, and flash via Odin...
Bigjoe has it nailed down tight....then stick with the version..
the card read issue is not found in the original CWM version....so stay with it....IMHO

Ok I used Odin again to install CWM through it and is working again. Is there a way to update CWM through odin?

The "older version" works the same as the later (better actually) so later isn't an improvement. Like gregsarg said, stick with the version you have.

[Solved] [Q] Can't Root for some odd reason

Hi All
I've purchased the Aria for my wife, got it on Ebay today and now i'm trying to install a new ROM for it, without much success, I have 15 different chrome tabs open, and I think I've kinda need help now, here's what I did :
i've been following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237 mainly, since I saw it's for 2.2.2.
I managed to S-Off successfully, and install CWM, but failed at actually getting CWM to work, after a long troubleshooting, I discovered I still don't have my phone rooted (downloaded titanium backup to verify it).
so I went over and looked at the root guide using unrEVOked Recovery - it does it's things and reboot the phone twice during the process, but then it says "unable to root, firmware is too new ?"
so I figured I might have an odd firmware, tried installing the one from HTC Website, it didn't seem to work either (failed to install) but I didn't troubleshoot it much since I saw that the version HTC has is exactly the same one I was had.
at this point, I ready many guides, but seen no one with the same Root problems I had, so i'm hoping any1 can direct me to the next steps, what am I doing wrong ?
here's some data from the bootloader screen, incase you need it :
Liberty PVT Ship S-Off
HBOOT-6.02.1002
MICROP-031b
Touch Panel-STN21_00
Radio-7.16.35.11
Nov 4 2010
Thanks
The S-OFF portion was successful, so at least you got that far. S-OFF does NOT automatically give you root.
Unrevoked will not work on your device because it only works on older devices that have HBOOT version 0.57.00. That's what the error message there meant. That's fine though, you don't need to use Unrevoked.
If you have HTC Sync installed, uninstall it. Then follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694 (the first 6 steps only)

thanks for the fast response.
did the first 6 steps (cwm installation) using recovery img from CWM 2.517 , went fine, but still can't load any ZIP files using CWM, it says "no zip files found".
basically same as before.
so when you boot it into cwm then go install zip from sd nd comfirm it all, it comes up with "no zip files found"

I don't even get to confirm it before I get this message.
it's like CWM have no access to the SD Card.

so you choose the "install zip from sdcard"?
not the "apply sdcard:update zip"

alright im not quite sure of the problem but i have let someone know who is a developer of the aria know. attn1 is very well known he will fix your problem very quickly
It sounds to me like Clockworkmod was successfully installed.
Some things to try:
1) Boot up your phone normally and confirm that you are able to read/write from the SD card.
2) Try doing a Nandroid backup. When it does the backup it should write to the SD card. See if you get any errors during this process.
3) Try removing the SD card you have in the phone now and making sure it's seated properly.
4) If that doesn't fix your problem, try reformatting the SD card using this tool (specifically this tool, as it is designed to fix bad SD card formats) - http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/SDFormatterv3.0.zip. To use this tool you need to have an SD card reader on your computer (you can't do it through your phone)
5) If THAT doesn't work, try using a different SD card.
Good luck.

Genius !
formatted the SD card using the tool, but then the Aria said it's damaged, reformatted using the Phone, rebooted to recovery and CWM managed to see files, installed SU successfully.
Thanks alot !
You haven't by chance bought your SD card off eBay have you?I'm asking because there's a ton of b.s. SD cards on the net.I myself got one through bestofferbuy.looked okay unless you tested it or went over 1.7gb
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I didn't bought it off ebay, but it was never a physical problem with the SD Card, since I took it off my SGS2 and moved it to my wife phone, I guess I needed to format it before I Tried to use it, what confused me is that I had no issues accessing the card from the PC or from the phoen itself (Astro for example), but the CWM didn't like it at all.
anyway, i'd suggest to read reviews and feedbacks about SD Cards, I got mine from newegg, it's a Patriot Class 10 card, a bit overkill, but cheap considering its high-end card.

[SOLVED] CWM Sd problem

Trying to root my cousins Vibrant. It's rooted, and i flashed CWM from Rom manager, but for some reason on the computer it doesn't show the root of the sd card, no android related junk, and then when I try and flash a custom rom it doesn't show the zips on cwm and if i click /sd it errors and goes back.
Edit: nevermind, figured out when it's in mass storage it shows two different ones.

Help: Cant mount my external SD card under ClockworkMod Recovery

Can anybody help me with this?? (apologies - I first posted thisin the 'General' forum and then realised it should have been put into the Q&A section)
ClockworkMod Recovery (v6.0.1.0) will not mount my SD card (SanDisk 64GB Micro SDXC Ultra Card) and posts "Error mounting /external_sd!"
I have successfully rooted my phone (GT-I9300 running the stock I9300XXBLFB at present) by following the various threads on XDA.
I formatted the sandisk SD card by using the S3's menu>settings>storage>format SD Card. The card is then visible when I run the the "My Files" app, showing both the internal /mnt sdcard and my new /mnt extSdCard which shows a total of 59.47GB space.
I subsequently installed the 'ROM Manager Premium v5.0.0.8" app from the Play Store and then flashed "ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.1".
My problem is that when I run ClockworkMod Recovery and select 'Recovery Mode' - 'mounts and storage'/'mount /external_sd' the app wont mount the SD card stating "Error mount /external_sd"
What am I doing wrong. I have searched the forum for similar problems but have drawn a blank unfortunately. Is it a known issue with the SanDisk 64GB Micro SDXC Ultra Card?
I am confused because the "My Files' app can see the card but the ClockworkMod Recovery app cannot.
I am trying to mount the external SD card so that my PC can recognise it and transfer some new downloaded ROMs to it.
A related (or maybe not) issue is that when I open the CWM Manager app it shows the following warning "this version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM .1.1 or newer. It appears that you are running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled."
Help!!!!! Although I registered on XDA in 2006 I have been in the Android wilderness for several years having 'jumped ship' to the iPhone before returning back to the Android fold.
Unfortunately my knowledge isnt what it once was and I need a helping hand.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read this.

Recovery - ClockWorkMod (CWM)
A custom CWM 5.5 build is included in CF-Root, taken from this thread. This provides for the ability to install custom ROMs, and do nandroid (full device) backups and restores. Now also support OTA updates, but an OTA update itself will probably remove CWM, so you need re-flash CF-Root after OTA.
Not compatible with ROM Manager ! Use the CWM Manager provided instead (installed by CF-Root automatically)
Util - CWM Manager
My management application for CWM is also installed, see the recovery thread linked above for further details. It allows you to command CWM (install a ROM, make/restore backups, etc) from normally booted Android.
1st of all the cwm version your using is flakey at best with extsdcard support its something that has only been introduced in version 6.0.1.0 and seems to be still giving bother. If you want extsdcard support I would recommend chainfires version which is non touch but vgood extsdcard support.(find it in original android development)
Secondly cwm manager is the app to use with chainfires cwm versions not the other cwm versions flying around.

Thanks for the helping hand JJEgan .. very much appreciated. I am finding the learning curve for Android a bit steep at the mo because of my time spend throwing money at Apple!!
For anyone else who has a similar problem to mine then follow JJEgans link above, download "CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip" to your PC then follow these instructions
* Your phone should not be connected to your PC yet
* Start up Odin3 v1.85
* Click the PDA button, which is located under the Bootloader button
* This opens up a box, all you need to do is locate and select the "CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip" file
* Turn your phone OFF
* Hold Vol Down + Home + Power, it will ask you to cancel or continue ... press the Vol Up button to continue
* This will put the phone in 'download mode' it should say downloading...
* Connect your phone to your PC
* Make sure the Repartition is NOT checked (by default it should not be anyway)
* Click START
This worked for me and meant that I now have CWM Manager v3.60 running without the warning "this version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM .1.1 or newer. It appears that you are running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled."

5.5.4.8 Touch works ok, dunno about mounting external, though. The none-touch that comes with CF-CWM works ok.
One question : Why you terribly require to mount the SD card from Clockworkmode??? since you have other options to tranfer your files to SD card.
I dont think you can mount even on the Cainfire's CWM, since SGS3 is not supporting to mount SD cards as mass storrage even booted condition.
Thanks SwiftSmoke, Kryten2k35 & ZACQ8 for the help!! much appreciated!!!
I have gotten myself terribly confused with all this although the 'mist' is now starting to lift a wee bit now
I have the premium version of the following CF apps - Rom Manager (CW Manager v3.60); Mobile Odin Pro v3.0; Triangle Away v1.70 and ROM Manager Premium v5.5.58 (CWM 6.0.1.0)
I have 'rooted' my mobile and successfully run 'Triangle Away'.
All my problems began when I tried to change my mobile from 'stock' ROM to a Cyanogen ROM (I downloaded a stable v9 Cyanogen ROM and placed it onto the root of my external SD card. All my problems then began when I rebooted CWM v3.60 into Clockwork Recovery mode to find out that it would not recognise my SD card).
I have now successfully applied CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip.
Question: what is the simplist way to flash to Cyanogen from here? Can I download a ROM and simply use Mobile Odin from now on?
Thanks again for your patience .. I joined XDA way back in 2006 so im disappointed my skills are not up to much at the moment (like many many others I got seduced by the Big Apple!!)
Bob
dont use ROM Manager anymore with this CWM (CF)
use Vol-up+Home+power to enter CWM
you should be able to see now external SD, choose your CM9 zip file from
'install zip from SD card' / 'choose zip from SD card' then, you will find the zip,
if not your SD card is not supported, reeboot and place the zip on the internel SD card through MTP
then select the zip from "choose zip from internel SD card"
dont forget to do the other steps (wiping cache. dalvik etc.. as per the ROM thread instruction)
Thanks ZACQ8 - that is exactly the advice I need
I'll post back later as to how I get on so that anybody else with my problem can follow this through.
Bob
All sorted!
I have now got my mobile running CM9.0 RC2
What I didn't realise was that you can access both your internal and external SD card via the Kies app (it works on both OS X and Windows PC when connected by USB cable).
During the reboot my mobile automatically detected that I am on a UK/O2 sim (I wasnt too sure if it would and was initially put off changing the stock ROM thinking it would cause problems - it didnt and hasnt!!)
Thanks to all who helped!!

Any idea why that is? I'd like to use my sdcard the same way as any htc did, using TotalCommander and seeing it as an external drive. I had all sorts of backup and sync-scripts working with my htc, now they are all useless, because of this stupid restriction.
I guess I'll wait for someone to crack through this silly wall created by Samsung.
And I see some have already done the first part (external sdcard as USB drive) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
I have same problem with Sandisk 64GB, I have installed Recovery from HERE, still not working, I did not try format SD through recovery yet, maybe problem is Recovery does not support ExtFat system which is on 64gb, but 32GB sd card work fine with out any extra manipulations, it has Fat32 on it.

Lots of technical reasons. With a running phone you can use the APK 'Easy UMS' to mount the sdcard as mass-storage anyway.
You _should_ be able to run the commands manually through adb in CWM.

I also have same problem/error with my Sandisk 64GB. Running latest version CWM 6.0.2.3 on rooted Stock ROM T-mobile GS3.
I would really like to save/backup/restore my nandroids from the ext_sdcard since they are over 2GB....on a 16GB internal space is more than I have to spare. Can anyone confirm a fix or workaround for this? Thanks in advance.
**UPDATE**
So it appears the problem is ExtFat is the problem...is there a way to format a 64GB card with FAT32? from what I have read on other threads using windows or the phone itself will use the EXTFat format.
**UPDATE 2** found another XDA thread with the fix found here:

I tried the Fat32 format and I was able to format the SanDisk Mini SD 64gb to Fat33; however, CWM still won't recognize the ext SD. Were you successful in any way? I May just downgrade from 6.0.2.3 to the 5's as mentioned in another thread, but I have to refind it. I'll update once I confirm that the ext SD will in fact in CWM.

I just found out I have the same problem. I am about to follow these steps but apparently it's inside the S3 thread.
Can I use this method for my Note 2 N7105?
I had the same problem on my Note II N7105 with ClockworkMod 6.0.3.2 and a 64GB SanDisk.
I backed up my SD card, then used this tool to format it to FAT32 on my Win7 Laptop: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...at32format.htm
After that I copied everything back. Works perfectly now. Thanks Rafi_ for pointing me in the right direction.
I've got SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC formatted FAT32 with 32K cluster size and CWM 6.0.3.2 can't mount it. Installed PhilZ Touch 5, which is also based on CWM 6.0.3.2 and same issue.
Also can't read the contents in SlimBean or LiquidSmooth. It works fine in FoxHound, OmegaROM and Sotmax. My 8GB microSD works fine everywhere.
Any ideas why I'm not having the luck with this 64GB card with FAT32 format and 32K cluster size?

[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Touch 6.0.1.0 cant recognise my sd card

How come i cant back up to external sd card. it says it cant mount backup path. i got a 64gb sdxc card class 10. i thought this version supported external sd card
im using a uk unbranded s3 on stock samsung firmware
do i have to format and partition the sd card using cwm first and then try to backup to sd card. the sd card as of now is ex-fat
Exactly the same problem here, installed CWM touch and it can't recognise my 16GB card, 8GB or 2GB. I reckon its because samsung have named it Exsdcard or something like that instead of emmc or whatever its meant to be.

I already had a thread like this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798262
This was my ONLY solution...
1. I RE-Rooted with CF Root 6.4
( it installs CWM 5.5.0.4)
Everything perfect....
BUT if I try to Upgrade CWM 5.5. --- to --- 6.0
Then I have the MOUNTING PROBLEM
So I have to (ONLY) :
1. Re-Root again with CF Root 6.4
And Everything goes back to NORMAL...
yep exactly. only way is to use CF-root and that cwm mod works on the micro sdxc card. eff the touch version
Well the touch version works very well for me. It shows the sdcard and external sdcard so I am at a loss as to why yours does not work. I have the international version and on the omega v10 rom.
I am having a similar problem. External SDcard is no longer recognised for me on ANY touch version.
Had no trouble on non touch one that came with omega under v10. I installed CWM touch through rom manager on Omega v9, when I upgraded to v10 the CWM stayed the same. Then messing about some more seeing which version I prefered I ended up installing a few versions before settling with Rom manager touch version.
At the beginning, first use of CWM touch, external card mounted fine and could backup to it. Somewhere between then and now I have lost the ability to mount sdcard.
I have performed full wipes of everything and reinstalled numerous times but no matter what I do now, CWM touch will not load extsdcard.
My theory is there must be some config file or something somewhere that needs to be deleted that is stopping CWM touch from properly choosing the correct path. If it's not that, then I have no clue wt* is going on.
EDIT: Know I could just use the non touch version, but I prefer the blob backup system, could care less about the touch feature personally.

[Q] sd card wont mount in CWM, can't install SU

Not a noob to rooting but stuck trying to root my Tmobile S2. I followed the directions using ODIN to install CWM 5.xxxx but when trying to flash Superuser CWM will not mount the sd card. Reinstalled CWM, formatted the sd card several times to no avail.
Any ideas? I found one thread but it had no resolution.
Also, I'm on 2.3.6 and when I click on Software Update in Settings it says "no firmware". Is that right? Kies says I need an update but when I initiate the update, it downloads the update and promptly closes the Kies app and nothing happens.
Any help is appreciated.
thx.

Flash a ROM, what are you even doing in GB?
Try other type of sd card. The first time i install custom rom on my Galaxy ace Phone,my sd card could mount on CMW.After a month,my sd card was stolen.I use other sd card that has a Micro Sd card name on it diference from my old one(I forget it name).CMW cannot mount it.(E:Can't mount sd).I recomended you to use other type of sd.

Simply flash CWM on your phone . I recommend to use Zip file rather than Odin but you can use if you want.
Then put any custom rom on your internal sf / ext sd card and flash it from recovery mod.
