home button acting funky after cwm data wipe - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently wiped and flashed my phone with another ROM via CWM recovery. afterwards, the home button, while not dead, does not act the way it's supposed to! It can still be used to volume up+home and power to enter cwm recovery, confirm in cwm, and be pressed to turn the screen on from sleep, but nothing else. I suspect it to be something that I did in CWM recovery, but I can't fix it. help!

Sound like rom problem. What rom you flashed? Double check that you downloaded the correct rom for your model. Then reflash again.

what kind of error did you receive while installing CM9..what did it say...are you sure you downloaded the correct version from get.cm..
http://get.cm/get/jenkins/5834/cm-9.0.0-i9300.zip
if you are able to go into recovery..do a full wipe and then install this rom followed by gapps.. wipe dalvik and cache again and reboot..

You need to wipe before and after flashing custom ROMs, bro.
If flashing via CWM, wipe data / factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik... before and after.
If flashing via fastboot, do a "moto-fastboot -w", after flashing the rom.
Alright in CWM I select wipe data and wipe dalvik. It still doesn't wipe anything. I thought this was weird so I asked. I may just do it from boot (hold down after power on, select recovery, etc.). Ill try that and see what happens. Its just going to wipe from internal right?

You have to use tenfar's cwm to wipe. If you're using Rom Manager's recovery then the wipe doesn't work.
The best way so far to clean data is start phone in fastboot mode (turn on phone with vol down key pressed, then press vol up) and using command line send fastboot -w, if you need to delete other partition you can use fastboot erase <partition>, then fastboot restart
Thanks, I know what I did now. I updated CWM from the market and reflashed to a different version...it was working fine after I unlocked my BL, and then I thought it just stopped working. Thanks for the help folks!

the problem is that when i try to go to recovery i see the recovery background image and nothing happens so i can't install other version of the rom.
never mind, i got it to work.
all i had to do is press VOL UP + POWER button.
everyday i learn new things
Tried to update from CM7.2 to CM9.1 by instruction:
1. wipe data
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik
4. flash rom..
5. reboot
and 9.1 didnt run at all.. bootloop..
also tried
1. wipe all
2. flash
3. wipe all
bootloop...
1. wipe all
2. flash
3. wipe all
4. gapps
5. wipe all
bootloop...
rolled back to 7.2 - works fine..
p.s.
sorry for my english
Why are you NOT wiping (formatting) boot and system? If you don't your leaving all the files for the previous rom installed hence why your having issues...
Installation is so easy if you use a bit of thought,
Format boot, system, data, cache and SDext DONOT FORMAT SD CARD!
Flash rom then flash gapps then reboot.

[Q] Problem installing custom rom

Hi Guys
Im having some problems trying to install a custom rom into my new Galaxy SIII I9300.
The rom in question is OmegaRom V35
After roooting and all, yesterday i tryed installing the rom with mobile odin, following all the instructions.
The result was the phone rebooted after the instalation seemed to be ok, but got stuck on the booting animation, and never got out of there.
I Had then to inject cwm with odin desktop, wiped data, cache anda dalvik, and then proceed to install the stock rom with desktop odin. All went well and the phone worked great.
I thought that maybe the problem was with mobile odin pro. So today, i went and proceeded to install Omega V35 via CWM. I again put the file on internal sd card, wiped data, cache and dalvik, and the rom started flashing. It all started good but, with no warning, at the mniddle of the installation, when applications were being installed, the phone went automatically and wuickly back to CWM!
Of course the installation wasnt finished, so i was stuck with cwm on reboot. Again made wipe data, cache and Dalvik, tried again to flash Omega V35, and again, the same problem...
In the end, i had to flash the stock rom again.
I searched the forum, but i cant seem to find the problem for this. I followed all the instructions, and had no error messages besides CWM skiping the format of the card, and some message (that i've seen in videos as normal), when wiping Dalvik!
Any clue to what's happening?
A clue read the instructions for the rom .
<b>Installation:Install CWM Recovery with Odin - Get CWM Recovery here
Boot to CWM Recovery using volume up, power button and home key
Backup your device and make sure to keep a copy of the backup to your pc!
Wipe data / factory reset (Not needed if you already have Omega)
Install Omega
(Wipe cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step
Wipe dalvik cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step)</b>

Maybe i didn't expressed myself correctly, but today i followed those instructions twice, and, at each of these tries the
same thing happened. When the flashing was running apparently problemless it simply stoped and went to CWM without rebooting.

Tried my first Rom flash now boot looping

I had 4.0 installed and rooted for a little while now.
So I wanted to install CM10 so I followed this guide http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-i717-roms/cm10-jelly-bean-rom-for-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717/
I just backed up everything in CWM then install TWRP since he said you might need it, I backed up in TWRP and then I flashed cm-10-20121006-UNOFFICIAL-quincyatt.zip in TWRP restarted and now its Looping the boot animation for CyanogenMod.
I read in the thread a lot of people are having this problem but no one is giving a clear fix for it.
I can get Odin Mode by holding power and volume down, but I am not sure what to do from here?
Try booting into recovery mode (hold volume down and up then hold power) and restore your backup before doing anything with odin
Shouldn't be a problem if you wipe before flashing

I would ....yes
Then....you must "always " wipe caches, data , system before flashing a
New build....otherwise you'll get loops and data corruption...g
Are you sure its looping? I've had some ROMs take like ten minutes to boot. As long as you can get to recovery or download mode you can work your way back read the super thread really well and go slow good luck

When I stepped up to the 4.2 ROM I did the usual wipe and got the boot loop too.
Update to TWRP 2.4
Wipe caches
Factory reset
Flash ROM, let it settle in for a few hours, don't install anything.
Flash gapps and set up your apps
I got the 10 minute boot (I don't wait well ),anyway I went back to recovery /twrp re-wiped installed again and now on (no 2/flapps. Nightly) ,Go where ya want but I would advise against rootgalaxy for future use ,stick with xda ,tons to learn right here

[Q] Bricked device

Hello,
I have rooted my device and have CM10.1 installed (already months ago).
My kids did something and now the device is stuck on the CM boot screen.
I can boot into the CWM recovery (unfortunately there is no backup present).
I did a factory reset/wipe cache/wipe david cache.
This did not solve the problem.
I wanted to use Odin1.85 to flash a new rom, but Odin can not connect to my device.
I downloaded the Samsung mobile drivers and tried the version 1.3.15 and version 1.3.25 drivers.
When I go to the "Download Mode" and connect the cable to the device (with Odin already started), I get the message on my laptop that the "device is not recognized". On the device the message "waiting USB cable" keeps showing.
I tried to connect with ADB but then when I try to see my device "ADB devices" the list shows nothing.
So I think it is a driver problem, not sure.
My laptop is running Windows 7.
Anyone got any idea what to do??
Any help is much appreciated!!
Do you have any ROM zips in your SD card? If so, wipe system, data, cache and dalvik in recovery and flash that ROM.

No I don't have any roms on the device.
Wished it was so easy.
Well I can't help much since I don't know what your kids did. All I can say is just try to get Odin to be able to recognize your tab, but you already know that.
BTW, here's the driver that I use. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/GT-P7510MAYXAB

Thanks for the link.
Did try the drivers you are using, but that also is not working.
I will try to get another laptop and see if it is working on there.
I reinstalled all drivers of my laptop, but to no avail!
I (un/)installed several Samsung USB drivers but all I tried did not help.
So my next step will be first try it on another laptop (I did not get hold of another laptop yet)..
Stupid, stupid.
I had a nightly in the cmupdater folder.
I did wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache.
Then I installed the nightly from the cmupdater folder.
Rebooted the device but it still hangs on the startup screen of Cyanogenmod.
Any other ideas or is it now really bricked!

There should be boot.img within the cm's zip file.
Check it
or
reflash the rom again and perform the full wipe.

and i asked u for the tab details
use this
Hold down the power button and make sure it turns off. There might be a battery charging symbol on the screen once it’s off.
Hold down Volume Down, and then Power buttons. The tablet should power up. Wait till there are two icons.
Press the Volume Down button to toggle between which icon is selected. Make sure the LEFT (USB) icon is selected.
Press the Volume Up button to actually select. Now you are in “Fastboot” mode.
Plug the tablet into your computer’s USB port
