Flashtool is not working on my computer. (Ubuntu 64 bit on a HP dv6 laptop)
I tried several settings (sudo, lsusb, udev...)
./fastboot works fine (I never had any problems with that)
Is it possible to flash ftf roms with fastboot?

Flash the generic with flashtool
hi wpgchris,
It won't let me use flashtool only in fast boot mode where i have installed kernel
i need a system.img file now
hurrrrrrrayyyyyy,
I finally did it, thought i bricked it
I used the Fastboot mode on flashtool
First i install the kernel then i downloaded the system.img file (system_xps_prerooted_67fw)
installed both through fastboot mode and voila
many thanks for your help
To late for reply but mabay you or some one else can use the info
- flashtool - flash mode green led
- fastboot - bootloader - blue led
So here it is: it doesn't send the kernel in fastboot or in flashtool it doesn't flash the FTF...it get's stuck on both this programs. I've managed though to relock the bootloader with flashtool and then unlock it with fastboot. The problem is with my PC since my laptop can flash anything with any of this 2 programs. I need a answer because the laptop is not home for 2-3 days and I can't use the phone . I was thinking at reinstalling Windows since it's a driver error I think and it has 1 year+. Any ideas?
SOLVED: there was some error with the Windows. On a fresh windows install everything worked as it should.
TIP: I guess deleting the drivers and reinstalling should have helped but I didn't bothered.
You reinstalled Windows instead of reinstalling drivers..lol
Windows started to get funky not just android driver errors so...
Hello everyone,
Yesterday I have bricked my Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo (MT15i, Stock ICS .431 kernel). I was ready to install a custom ROM from CWM, I wiped the battery status, I made a factory reset, then I tried to install the ROM from SD card, but the ROM wasn't there because I am dumb and I forgot to put it in SD. So I restarted my phone and discovered that my phone was bricked.
It freeze at Sony logo (it doesn't make a bootloop) and I can't enter in CWM. It was not the first time when I bricked my phone, so I knew that I have to reflash the original kernel. I opened FlashTool but it says it needs the drivers installed, so I installed them from Flashtool/drivers folder but I get the same message. I tried to install also the adb drivers and the drivers from Sony's site but nothing changes.
The problem is that I can't use flashtool.
Some aditional informations:
- my phone was rooted ;
- my phone had the bootloader unlocked ;
- my phone was running the Stock Android ICS firmware (.431) ;
- my phone was rooted and bootloader-unlocked from the same PC, but a different OS ;
- the adb drivers were not installed on my current PC (I have reinstalled Windows so I don't have the drivers installed) ;
Is there any solution for me to unbrick my Xperia Neo?
I couldn't find any way to unbrick it.
I put some screenshots to see what I see.
Since you have unlocked bootloader you can flash a kernel so that you will get cwm back... From there install rom you wanted...
Or try using flashtool from a different computer...

R: [Q] I can't use Flashtool to unbrick my Xperia Neo
If you have done what you have writtten it should be not bricked, just phone cannot load system because you have erased it with factory reset.
So now if you have bl unlocked the fastesr way is to get a kernel with cwm inside to install a rom compatible with that kernel (try suave v6 or lupus or night elf for ICS). To flash kernel you have to get fastboot drivers then use flashtool or command line.
The other way is to flash a whole stock firmware with flashtool in flash mode, then do what you want.
The flashtool problem seems to be missing drivers, so my hints are:
-try to change usb port
-try to change usb cable
-try to reinstall flashtool flashing drivers (you should find it into flashtool folders, if you can't then search over the internet)
-try to reinstall fastboot drivers (when you have drivers you need to disable windows driver signature check to install it, search the internet how).
Are you trying to flash a firmware connecting phone in fastboot mode (blue light)? If so you are wrong, to flash a firmware you need to enter in flash mode (green light). I'm saying this because I see S1tool driver in windows and that is shown (as I know) when you connect phone in fastboot mode.
If this is not working I don't know how to help you.

Thanks man, I really really wouldn't understand how to fix my phone without your help
Here is what I did and what happened:
1) I installed the following drivers from Flashtool/drivers/Flashtool-drivers.exe
- Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, neo etc. ;
- Flashmode Drivers ;
- Fastboot Drivers ;
2) I chose "MT15_4.1.B.0.431_Global.ftf", the stock ICS kernel from Sony ;
Connected in flashmode (GREEN LED) ;
Windows updated automatically S1Fastboot ;
Flashing failed!
3) Chose "MT15_4.1.B.0.431_Global.ftf" (the same kernel) ;
Connected in flashmode (GREEN LED) ;
Flashing succeeded!
4) Boot up - finaly see the XPERIA logo.
I solved it in 10-15 minutes, the first boot took like 3 minutes. So simple!
The flashmode and fastboot drivers were missing.
I lost my root and I have relocked my bootloader during this but it's not a big deal, I can anytime get them back. Also I had a ROM backup in SD card, made with CWM, so I can get them back.
Hope someone with the same problem will see!
Thanks again Bertellio!
Hey, I have an Xperia Pro (MK16i) in my hands. It doesn't boot fully, it passes the splash screen, the boot animation and then it gets back to the splash screen and this keeps repeating. I checked whether it boots into Fastboot and flash mode and thankfully enough it does, except it isn't recognized by the PC. I have a Laptop with Win 8.1, Dual-booting with Ubuntu 13.04 and another laptop with Windows 7. I tried everything, drivers, editing the rules file but unfortunately, none of this helped. Also, I have this feeling that USB Debugging is off. It'd be great help if someone replied with any ideas.

Your problem is "bootloop". If you have Ubuntu installed on your PC,download Flashtool for Linux and flash stock ROM into your phone.U don't need drivers.

Flashtool doesn't detect the device.
