After my switch to Sprint went very well this week, I wanted to share some advice with those who plan to switch. For those switching to Sprint for the EVO 3D, here's advice on how to get an excellent deal.
On June 23, the day before the EVO 3D releases, they have two deals expiring. The first offers a $125 credit to anyone who ports from another carrier to Sprint. The second gives an extra 300 minutes to anyone who gets the individual Everything Data 450 plan. That's 300 extra minutes every month for the lifetime of the plan, by the way. All this expires the day before the EVO 3D comes out because they don't want people using these deals on it.
Two solutions.
a) Go to a Sprint store, and tell them you want to preorder the EVO 3D but want to port your number over today and use a temporary phone until you can get an EVO 3D. Try to convince them, it's usually not hard with a good manager.
b) If you can't convince them, get a plan with an EVO 4G today, then return it on June 24 for the EVO 3D. There may be a $35 restocking fee, but you still get $90 off (and, if you got the Everything Data 450 plan, you get an extra 300 minutes every month for your plan's lifetime).
I went with A, and now I get unlimited data/texting/mobile-to-mobile with 750 mobile-to-landline minutes, all for $70 + tax per month. I'm on a Sanyo flip phone for two weeks, after which I get my EVO 3D.
Anyone else switching to Sprint?
I'm currently on tmobile thinking about doing this same thing. Only thing is my preorder is with Best Buy. I wonder and hoping, are they offer these discounts as well?
R.I.P hd2 hello Evo 3d
yeah thats what i did got unlimited data/texting and the 125 dollar credit and no fees to pay. just using my old phone till the new one comes in, cant wait
I have a pre-pay plan at T-mobile. Does that count?
was planning on doing the same thing. I was going to wait until a few days before the 24th release to do the switch like on the 21st-22nd. Just get the Nexus 4G which is $199 and then go back on the 24th and do the switch with your evo 3d preorder.
Have you heard anything else about a restocking fee? I thought there wasn't any fee at all?
Was hoping someone else did this first, they didn't say anything about switching the phones and messing up the $125 dollar credit? Also did you do it at a Sprint store, BB, RS?

Yes it is. Does it mean that I could move it over and get that deal with 300 extra minutes and $125?
Also I pre-ordered it at Best Buy. Will I be able to get it through BB?
Thank you for helping me.

I just did this yesterday. Bought the Nexus S and I'll swap it for the 3D on the 24th. I didn't preorder it yet. But I did tell the guy helping me exactly what I was gonna do. I did option A. Swapped from Verizon and the original Droid. The $125 is gonna pay for the majority of my ETF!
Where did you do it at? Sprint or Best Buy?

yes, why wouldn't you?
I picked up an EVO 4G at best buy to tide me over until I get the 3D. I got the port credit and the 300 bonus minutes. Also, since I am a silver premier member at best buy I don't have to pay the re-stocking fee when I switch phones. I also got a mailer saying that Sprint is offering a $50 visa gift card for new acts. AAAND when I went to best buy they were doing some promo on double points for new smartphone acts. I think I did pretty well

I'm pretty sure that BestBuy can't give you the $125 credit. I went into the Sprint store last week and they said that the $125 credit is to combat with the deals that Bestbuy and other stores put out there.
Sounded like you could only get the credit directly from Sprint. I could be wrong though.

I did it at Sprint. I doubt Bestbuy will match all these deals.
Also yea, you'll have to pay the ETF.

Corrections and things to consider:
-the Everything Data 450 plan + 300 bonus minute plan expires 7/23, not 6/23.
-Smartphone credit is $125, dumbphone credit is only $50. So if you activate a dumbphone on or before 6/23 and then switch to a smartphone after 6/23, you may only get $50.
-I called Sprint last week and was told that a new phone activation is required to get either credit, meaning I couldn't activate my extra previously activated Hero on or before 6/23, then buy the Evo 3d and still get the credit.
-For new customers and customers adding new lines of service, the $35 restocking fee is waived. All others may get charged the fee.
-I haven't explored this further since I don't plan on doing it but existing Premier customers adding new lines may be able to order the Evo 3d on 6/21, and with overnight shipping, be able to activate it on or before 6/23 to get the $125.
I'm porting a line to my account so I've tried researching every scenario to the best of my ability, or lack thereof
OK anyone know if radio Shack will stack discounts.
They give 100 for the evo (my buyer backed out )
And I see they will give 75$ for other smartphones
Would it be possible to trade in both evo and my old moment?
To get 175 off?

CheesyNutz, I asked the same question of 2 local Radio Shack Managers and both said only 1 phone. 1 of the Managers said that question had been asked numerous times and he wished that he could accomodate but the Regional Manager told him "No way".
Great minds think alike....
I don't know if this still works, but last year when I bought my Evo 4g, the guys from the Sprint store took both my Nexus One and Mytouch 3g for credit towards my Evo when I first switched over from T-mob to Sprint. My personal experience with Radioshack has always been pretty crappy anyways, plus you get $150 for your Evo 4g @ the Sprint store vs. the $100 from Radioshack.

Poor Cheesy
You can always pre-order at target as well. They are giving $150 to trade in for your EVO4G.
Yea me too with last year, they took my G1 and bricked moto clique and put the money towards my EVO.
My radio shack said the same thing. Normally they can stack but with the 3d its a strict 1 for 1. I have an appt with radio shack for Friday at 9. I preordered before the $100 trade in was announced and at the time I was told $150 - $175 for the trade in. So, I'm hitting the Sprint store at 8 when they open. If they have stock and will do $150 for the trade in I'll get it there and use my RS gift card for accessories. If they trade in value goes down by Friday I'll keep my appointment.
For those of you with a Moment, you may want to check on that $75 offer, when I pre-orderd, there was a list of the specific phones that the $75 is valid for and the Moment was not listed.
According to the RS website they give $158.13 for an Evo4g in Excellent condition.....and 3 weeks ago they gave $175 for it!!
http://radioshack.cexchange.com/onl...tBDmYmQgv+G1hsJdKb5c/KOlpLGqZRlMaOCAOqKlzyQ==
Also.....you can stack trade-ins if you sell them to RS and get a gift card....then use the gift card towards the E3D phone purchase!

Or you can sell your EVO on Craigslist for 250-325. That would also work and save you a credit
Can s-off come out and play? You run but you can't hide
Or you can try to win one
http://now.sprint.com/bea3dstar/?ECID=vanity:bea3Dstar
And while you're there, tell them if you are a AAA member or you are a member of a credit union. If so, that's 10% off your monthly bill.
Have a friend still using an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4? Tell them to dump it and go with Sprint. They'll get about $135 for their old iPhone 3GS (more for the iPhone 4) and $125 for porting their old AT&T number over to Sprint so Sprint will actually pay THEM to own an Evo 3D.
They've also been giving Sprint Premier Silver members the full upgrade price even though you've only had your Evo 4G for a year. Sprint is running so many great deals right now, most people should be able to get an Evo 3D for just about free if not better.

This. I think I got like $240 shipped for mine on Craigslist.
Selling off my 3 Epics, so I got mine for free. BAHAHA. Trading in a phone is just a rip off program. You think it's a good deal, but you just don't know any better.
I don't know why Sprint is giving me such a hard time. I'm one year into my contract and have tried and tried. They want me to pay the full retail price. IMO it's not worth the retail price esp when I have an EVO. It's not worth all the hassle. I don't know what else to do. Hell I will sign a 3 year contract if they would cut me a little slack. I hope someone from Sprint sees this and contacts me.
I'm switching from T-Mobile and was originally going to go with Verizon for the iphone but I found this deal for the EVO 3D with Sprint and it sounds more up my alley price wise. I live in downtown Boston so I think both carriers have decent service there. Do you guys think I should go with this Sprint deal? What do you think of the EVO 3D vs iphone?
Here's the deal I got in my email from Studentrate....
We are pleased to offer great discounts on HTC EVO 3D to qualified StudentRate.com members.
For New Customers:
$20.00 off regular price ($199.00 regular price with new contract)
15%-23% Discounts off of Monthly Recurring Service Fees available to qualified members
Click for more info on the Sprint HTC EVO 3D Deal
hell yeah comes to mind
I actually got my 3D this way. They send you through Amazon Wireless and then after confirming your order number, billing address and account number with Studentrate they take care of the rest. I actually spoke to them today and confirmed all the info so they said I should see my discount in 1-2 billing cycles. We will see...
I say yes cuz the $20 will cover part of your tax (if any) and then the discounts on monthly bills, trust me it helps. I have corporate discount of 25% monthly bill and with 2 lines of evo, it saves quite a bit.
Well if you're looking to save money a 15%-23% discount off a monthly bill would definitely help you out. Plus I think Sprint already has a pretty low cost plans compared to Verizon. I think you should go for it, maybe I will too haha.
The 3DVO is a beast, the I(wanna-be-a)Phone is a chump... I have a simple mantra, if it starts with i, do not buy.

It sounds like a good deal and would say go for it, but what is studentrate? You go through them to get the discounts?
I think it's a discount site for college students but they have a bunch of like wireless stuff
Will this discount apply to any Sprint plan?
I think it applys on the Everything Data plans. I saw this posted on their forum
I just ordered the EVO 3D through your deal OP and it was only $144.99 on Amazon Wireless. I'm not sure how long it'll be at that price but if you're still on the fence I'd try to get it now while it's on sale.
Is there any way to just apply for the discount itself? I just bought a Evo 3D but through Sprint.
I went from tmo to sprint and love it! They give you $125 per smart phone line to switch and I got my evo 3d for $149 and an evo 4g for $24.99 with free shipping free activation free everything accept tax! Go for it!

I don't think so. You have to be buying a new phone, upgrading, or adding a line.
EVO 3D looks like an awesome phone, but right now I'm with Verizon. My contract is ending soon so I could switch over. You get a $125 if you come over from another carrier? 15-23% off my bill would be a major help too. I wish there was some way to test out the EVO 3D for like a week to see if I even like it.

I think I'm going to go with the EVO 3D, but now do I want to use that deal I posted to get it through Amazon, paying only $144.99 and getting a 23% discount off my monthly bill, or I guess I can use this Sprint Deal, the phone would be $199.99 but I could get the $125 port credit and still get the 23% discount. I'm torn because do I want to pay less now, or get a refund later? I guess the port credit expires tomorrow too.
oh man, looks like I missed the port credit. Guess my best bet now would be to go through the amazon deal. Do you know if there is an expiration date?

I didn't buy mine through that site but I did chat with Sprint online and they gave me a 23% student discount just by giving them my school name and student ID. I should be seeing that reflected on my next bill.
My father works at a top call center for Sprint. He handles early upgrades for customers.
This is what he told me when he got off work:
Sprint is now doing "early buy-upgrades"
***DEPENDING ON HOW FAR OUT YOU ARE FROM YOUR ORIGINAL CONTRACT ENDING*** you pay a fee + the cost of the phone (nationally advertised new customer price, i.e. $199.99 for the Evo LTE).
Example: I asked my dad, I'm 10 months out from my contract ending, how would I go about obtaining the Evo LTE.
Response: If you're within 3 months, $45 early buy upgrade fee. Since you're 10 months out, $95 upgrade fee. This early buy upgrade fee is billed to your account. The cost of the phone, ($199.99) MUST BE PAID UPFRONT. No billing hardware device costs to the account.
In other words, for me (10 months out), it would cost $95 (billed to account) + $199.99 for the Evo LTE (paid upfront).
EDIT: In other words, you're essentially paying a scaled fee to reset your eligibility. Of course, if you choose this option, your contract resets, and you won't be eligible again for another 22 months (as usual).

My father told me Sprint STOPPED billing hardware/device costs to accounts. Too much fraud was occurring.
Example: bill the Evo LTE to account, pay early termination fee. You keep phone.
what people have to remember is that, NOT EVERYONE IS AVAILABLE TO DO SO. this is for select customers (of course, the majority will be eligible, go figure). You need to call and verify that you are available to do so, if you are, you have to make sure you don't have to go through telesales. If they tell you you are, tell them to put notes into your account letting retail stores know that you have chosen this option otherwise they will look at you like your an idiot...just saying. I was a tech for Sprint for a while. I have had to deal with customers all pissed off because some information was lost on the way through word of mouth.. ITS ANNOYING not having all the facts. plus it speeds up your process within the stores... food for thought

It says to buy out the contract if your between 18-20 you'll pay 100 which gets biilled and pay upfront the 199.99 for the smart advanced phones non advanced is 50 so....which basically $300 but if u sell your phone then surely it would cost u maybe 150 give or take

Not sure if anyone knew this, but this was happening last year with the EVO 3D.
For that price you can go out and Buy a Design or EVO 3D on boost mobile straight up. And have a decent phone with no contract and cheaper bill and it would only continue to go down every 6 months if you paid your bill on time. If you step back and think about it. Its really crazy the things we all do just to get these new phones.......digital heroin
Or go out and spend $300 for the Virgin Mobile (HTC Evo V 4G) version which comes with Ice Cream Sandwich on it stock. Which is what I did so I spend a whopping $35 a month

This makes no sense what so ever.. you could loose your plan which sprint will no loner honor. Also extending by two more years? Whats to say a better phone wont come out by the time your contract is up? I'm just saying if you want the upgrade it makes sense to buy it rather than add 2 years.. just my two cents.
OK this is weird. So I bought an EVO 3D at launch for $199. I expect to get a new phone in 2013.
I get a call from Best Buy on saying I'm eligible for a new phone. I'm like right.. that's next year.. didn't think about it.
Go online to pay my bill.. I see a ! next to my number and it says You qualify for a great price . I click on the link and it takes me to the phones with the 2 year discount pricing.. I click on any of the links and I see a 2 year agreement upgrade discount.
I click on my contract details on my account screen and I see that my contract is up on 6/1/13
So, even though my contract is up next year, I qualify for the 2 year discount price right now.. .
I am confused...
Great News!

How's their service though?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network to provide their service. I'd think that'd make it identical. My VM Evo V 4G (which is the Evo 3D with a different name) even has the Sprint logo unlike my older VM phone which had the Virgin Mobile branding on it. The $35 plan I mention is their 450 minutes talk "unlimited" internet, which is sort of amusing since the fine print says 3/4G data is limited to 2.5G. But still, I figure I break even vs. Sprint with a Evo 3D is 9 months assuming Sprint gives me the phone for free. Where I live there is no 4G (WiMax) service with LTE nowhere on the horizon so its an excellent choice for me.

Where I live there is no 4G (WiMax) service with LTE nowhere on the horizon so its an excellent choice for me.

This is almost correct... Virgin Mobile runs on the Sprint network, but with limited roaming abilities... So, if you have Sprint, you can roam on Verizon/Alltel, US Cellular, ect... With Virgin Mobile, they don't extend the same roaming contracts. You may be able to roam, but it's much more limited.
Hell no. I will not pay for early upgrade! I was sold a 4g phone that never saw it! I will let my contract end and go m2m! Last time sprint fists me dry! I wanna be a to leave free and clear once I get fed up with sprint data being unlimited slow! It's like saying drink all you want but use this thimble!!

Not sure if anyone knew this, but this was happening last year with the EVO 3D.

Yep. I did this back in August 2011 to get my evo3d.
