Gaming performance with MHL HDMI adapter - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys. I have GNote and I've been searching for days for a solution to the framerate issue when attempting to play a game via the MHL to HDMI adapter. The framerate is great when watching movies or videos. However, when I fire up GTA 3, FPSE, N64oid, or any other game, the framerate is awful. I would say I am averaging less than 10fps and it's almost unplayable. However, the framerate on the phone screen is fine. I'm sure this is due to the resources needed to render both displays but I haven't seen any way to disable the phone display while gaming. I don't need the phone screen on since I'm using a wireless PS3 controller. Any ideas?

I'm running the Official AT&T ICS Rom (rooted) btw. I removed a lot of the bloatware.
nobody?

I have this issue too, and it's a bummer. I assumed it was purely a hardware limitation and moved on... bought a GameKlip

I have a real gaming console but it's nice to have a mobile gaming device in my pocket at all times. Especially since I bought a GameKlip last week.

Yes, by using the "Sixaxis Controller" app in the market.

FPSe on Vega.

Bought this when I had my Nexus S, installed it yesterday and tried out a few of my old iso's. Amazing performance on the Vega.
I have uploaded a short video of it playing tekken 3 (one handed as had to hold the camera) and you can see that the in game performance is spot on. Loads of games work, most at full speed.
I forgot to turn the frame limiter on so the FMV at the start is too fast, normally much smoother than that !
I'm using an xbox 360 wired pad here, with the vega in usb host mode.
This is on the Corvus5 rom (sp1) and clocked at 1.4GHz
Well worth a purchase if you played much PSX in the past.

HTC Watch + MHL -- Black Crush?

This is a bit more of a TV aficionado question but also applies to our Rezound. I recently was given, as a gift, the MHL adaptor. Like any good new toy i hooked it up with various videos and began tinkering.
One of the things i did was downloaded (rented) a movie from HTC Watch. I wanted to see how good the quality was through the app and through the MHL. To my surprise it actually looks great however it seems as is there is black crush in the picture; almost like either the phone or the MHL adapter is sending the wrong color/picture signal.
For instance, if you have a PS3 you have in your options for color either RGM or Limited. Generally one is for the TV color space and the other is for computer monitor color space. If you use the wrong one of your TV typically you end up with DEEP blacks but you "crush" them and it darkens the picture too much and lose a lot of shadow detail.
The above "seems" to be happening using HTC Watch and the MHL adapter. Wanted to know if anyone else tried this out and are getting the same thing?
As a quick aside, i tested the "stock" HD videos that come with the rezound, a downloaded HD youtube video and also a 720p mpg through MX Video player of an episode of American Horror Story. None of the above videos experienced the "black crush" and all played smooth and properly with the exception of the AHS audio not being in sync on my TV but being in sync on my device; probably a decoding thing.
This makes me believe it could be a HTC "Watch" issue and not a MHL problem. BTW i am using the official HTC MHL adapter.
Thanks for any help with this.

Android Market Movies and HDMI out Issues! Help

So I just rented a movie over the android market on my Prime. Trying to stream it to my TV via the HDMI cable but I get audio with NO video.......
Anyone have a fix for this?
The cable has worked to stream youtube and everything else flawlessly this is my first issues. Is there a problem with the android market?
maybe the hdmi connection doesn't use hdcp?
i haven't tried anything from the market video wise yet through hdmi though, so i can't help there.
Its weird because it works to preview the video but not to play it once you purchase.....very lame

other videos work though? i have to admit, i haven't even taken the twist ties of my hdmi cable yet, haven't needed to plug into a tv since i got it, but maybe i'll try it out tonight and see.
it really does sound like some drm/hdcp type issue though, gotta love the film and music industry to make it harder to consume contect you actully pay for vs the alternative.
Anyone else try this yet? I think ill call Google see if they have an answer

Having the same issue here, anyone able to get this working yet?
My guess is that movie playback over HDMI output is disabled (probably because it doesn't support HDCP output protection to prevent piracy).
Nothing like draconian DRM requirements to ruin a persons day.

Luckily the pirated shows I have work over HDMI!
The Prime does have HDCP, unlike my Droid X2. I've been capturing game video on both devices (www.pixel-freak.com) and have to use FRAPS to grab the Prime screens due to the HDCP piece. DX2 does not have HDCP and I am able to grab whatever I want through it. I've even tested Netflix which captures on my DX2 without the need for HDCP aversion (not that I'm pirating movies, I just tested it and it worked).
My guess with this issue is something is wrong with the HDCP/Google vids because it's only there to authenticate for this exact reason. I bet there's a glitch where it's recognizing it as capturing rather than simple displaying.
Have you tried streaming Netflix with the same setup? Theoretically it should be the same result, but I bet it won't be. I bet it will work and there is something wrong with the HDCP or Google Vids.
Same thing here.
I have the Asus Transformer Prime and rented a movie from the Android market. I bought a 30 dollar gold plated Micro HDMI cable. Plugged it into the tablet and right into HDMI 1 on my Vizio HDTV.
Everything came up! Desktops, apps, the web, youtube videos, even video I shot using the tablet. All played flawlessly.
But that movie I rented from Android market is a big no show on the big screen. I get only audio and no video.
I'm contacting the Android market and politely asking for a refund. I was hoping that I could have the option of watching on the tablet OR the HDTV.
It is disappointing.
However, I may give Netflix a go. Has anyone tried Netflix via an HDMI cable?

The movies are cheaper on the market because they are designed to be played on the small screen. Due to copyrighted it is not designed to be streamed over to your hdtv. IF I remember correctly Netflix is the same.
Fyi if your rooted the videos won't even play at all... at least that's what I found out on my DX. I certainly won't be buying movies from the market again. I asked Google for a refund and got it the next day.
Best of luck

people on the forum here have reported that rooting doesn't affect google videos on the prime
Streaming Netflix through HDMI does work. The playback of Android Market rented movies through the Transformer Prime to a TV does not work. I do suspect that this is Google limitation in order to offer movies cheaper.
It forces me to put my laptop to my TV and play the movie.
FYI. I also have an Apple iPad 2 and it allows for iTunes rented movies to be played to TV via HDMI and a their propriety HDMI adapter.
This is a disappointment that Google is seeming to limit this on their portable devices. I'd like to hear an official word though.

Here is Google's help message for watching movies on your HDTV:
Watching on your HDTV
To watch movies rented on Android Market on your HDTV, you'll need:
an HDTV that supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)—check your tv manufacturer's website to see if your HDTV is HDCP compliant
a Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable or an MHL adapter and HDMI cable, depending on your device
Once you connect your device to your HDTV, the screen of your device should be mirrored on your HDTV (both display the same content), with the audio playing on your HDTV. If the video plays without audio on your HDTV, you may need to change the input in your HDTV's audio settings.

Well, allegedly my Sony 40EX503 is HDCP compliant (though I couldn't find anything about this on Sony's website), but I cannot get Google Play movies to work. Any other videos - from a file or YouTube - work fine. I don't know whether this is due to some technical issue or Google say one thing on the help website, and do another in Play.

It has to be a technical issue because if you watch it through your pc through the same exact 1080p monitor that won't work for the prime it works fine from the PC, same HDMI cable and everything.
I imagine the MPAA agreement would be the same for watching on a pc as it is for watching through the Prime to a big screen, both 1080p just one is bigger.

100 percent not true did it today
Use OTA rootkeeper to play the videos on the prime if your prime is rooted. I've tried this on my Prime and E4GT and works like a charm.
My tv is not HDCP compliant (Olevia 537H) but during the Xmas holiday I was able to play A Christmas Carol streamed through my E4GT with an MHL adapter. I tried Inglorious Bastards last night through the prime to hdtv and it would not play - I was extremely disappointed. I will be asking for my money back.

HTC MHL Adaptor

Just got my MHL adapter.
I noticed that while videos run perfect, the screen is laggy, and emulators run like crap.
Is this due to the hardware or Sense?
Also, when the MHL is connected, it automatically goes to landscape, and the kickstand is unusable because the display doesn't auto-rotate.
Is there a way to modify that?
I find emulators impossible to use. Input lag is ridiculousness
Yea I noticed that too haha.
I hope this is just because of Sense because I mainly got the adapter so I can play using the TV and a couple of controllers. D:
i used my GS2 (epic touch) with an MHL combo with n64oid and the performance was practically flawless. It might have been the smoothness of an exynos cpu but still it sucks to hear its not so on our next gen chipset
Got a PNY MHL adapter for $10 shipped no issues what so ever. I was really worried after all the feedback but like Mc Donalds says I'm lovin it!
Maybe it's the 720p phone display that's causing the slowdown
Can anybody with a GNex comment?
Let me clarify, it's not slow fps. It's input lag. I can't play games like metroid fusion because it's too slow to pick up when I am trying to input through the PS3 controller. The phone's screen is PERFECTLY playable. It's the HDTV mirror that isn't. So, input lag. Only on through HDMI

Game Controller

Does anyone know of any decent game controllers for the 6T? I like the ones that fit around the phone and I've seen a couple of mentions of the Flydigi Wee over at Reddit, but I can't seem to find any in the UK. What do you guys use?
I don't have any that fit around the phone, but I have a few 8BitDo controllers. High quality, great battery life, and good feel.
I have one of them that I use on my shield. Was hoping for something a bit more portable tho, so you don't have to then hold the phone.
I've been using the steelseries status xl. Also bought the clip direct from them. Works great and holds the phone pretty securely.
I have a steelseries stratus xl but it lags on input when I comes to games. Now I just use my Xbox one controller that has Bluetooth and it's amazing.
I've decided to go for the Wee2T after watching a lot of reviews on it. It's coming from China so no idea when I'll receive it, but I'll post some pics when I have it.
OK...so I recieved the controller over the weekend and after some tinkering have got it working. The only issue I have is that with the latest version of the app I can't seem to remap the keys. There should be a pull out menu that overlays games, but this is missing. If I use an older version of the app then it seems to work fine. I'll take some pics tonight and post; the actual controller works really well.
I use the 8bitso zero keychain Bluetooth controller. It's on my keychain with my home and car keys and works perfectly for short bursts of snes or Genesis or tg16
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Just buy a Bluetooth enabled Xbox one controller. Works just like console. I play fortnite on it with no input lag whatsoever.
Gamesir is the best you will find. All you have to do is decide if you like the Playstation or Xbox controller
The Gamevice for the Pixel phones works great with the 6T. Can't use it with a case though.
I play with Dualshock 4, it has the best analog accuracy compared to other bluetooth controller like gamesir and ipega (and also feels better when I hold it). It can run over Bluetooth and OTG cable. But you need some tinkering to fix the input lag on Bluetooth. But I always play on OTG cable since I want the connection to be more stable. I also use DOBE Dualshock 4 Mount to attach my phone to the Dualshock 4 so I can play anywhere anytime.
But can it play COD mobile ?

How did you go about fixing the lag?
I'm using DS4 controller with cheap phone holder that clips on dualshock. It works really good and this holder cost under 2 dollars.
xbox1 (the one with bluetooth) and a clip for 3$. Its rock solid
