Hello there,
First of all I want to congratulate all the people who share stuff here, its very useful for everyone who owns a smartphone
Well, I have a big problem with my S3 .. I wanted to test out a JB ROM (Simply Nexus) so I installed it, and tested it, everything was fine ... until I decided to flash my phone back to a stock firmware, I used ODIN ... and when the phone was ready, it has no signal (forbidden symbol on the notification area), I checked the IMEI, and it isn't the generic one, then I tried some stuff:
- Restore a nandroid backup made before flashing the JB ROM
- Downloaded and flashed another stock firmware
- Flashed stock kernel
- Flashed some modems ( just to test it out)
I really don't know what else I can do, so I went here to get some ideas and fix my phone
Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
I had this happen to me on my i9000, the IMEI changed when trying to use sgs unlock.
Did you back up the EFS folder before flashing etc?
If so just recover that to the phone and it should restore your original IMEI. If like me you didn't it might be a case of taking it for repair. Luckily 3 didn't charge me but I was without my phone for a couple of weeks.

How about doing that as long as you still can?
Should you loose your EFS, you're basically screwed.

Dial *#4636#* and check what the modem status is.
You could also have a badflash, download another firmware from samfirmware.com for the i9300 and flash that one, then try again.
(Note: you may need factory-reset)

Hello, I bought my Galaxy S 3 10 days ago, it was 100% new, in the closed box. It is French SFR blocked phone (I am SFR), it worked wery well 7 days and after than the phone part doesn't work. The SIM card is recognised but I can only use the Internet and I can not calling and reciving the calls. When I try to do this I have this message: Not registered on the network. I changed the SIM card for new one - the same. At this time the IMEI N° was the same on the phone, box and *#06#, but after many changes of ROM, Modem,Kernel etc I have now my phone withe 2 different IMEI N°s. 3531XXXXXXX on the box and phone and 004999XXXXXXXX on *#06#
Can somebody help me to restore my phone to the right IMEI N° - 353165XXXXXXXXX, now I have 004999XXXXXXXX N°.
Can somebody help me to restore my phone to the right French SFR ROM.
Can somebody help me to resolve the problem of my SIM card and the problem of this"Not registered on the network" message.
Thank you in advance
Your EFS folder is ****ed up (probably happen during flashing...)
If you have not made a backup of this folder, you are probably screwed
You can try to flash the stock sfr rom but I doubt it will solve your issue...
Stock SFR rom is available here
You can also read thread for the rom and kernel you have flashed...
Maybe one of them have made an automatic backup of your EFS!
Return for repair if no EFS backup is all you can do .

Your last chance: SFR has made a rom update from LE6 to LF1 so flash the latest one, go to the SFR store and say them that Kies screw your phone during update
Do not forget to reset your flash counter before!
Maybe it could work...

Hi everyone
Today I updated my phone I9100-G to ICS using sammobile Firmwares...
The way I did it:
I was on cMIUI...I flashed old 2.3.6 official firmware (used 3 PIT,PDF and Bootloader files)
then I flashed Official 4.0.4 Using PDF file....
now my baseband version:Unknown and I can't register my device to samsung....
Have I done anything wrong?or what?
Thanks In Advance BTW
Guys Come on...
I need ur help in this one
1) No bumping threads after 90 minutes. This isn't your personal tech support forum.
2) Have you tried reflashing your modem ? When I used Miui GB the baseband used to disappear occasionally. Normally a reboot fixed it (made the baseband reappear), once I had to reflash the modem to fix it.
Also, check your IMEI. If you have the generic one (0044...), then there's your problem. Restore your EFS backup if that's the case.

2-No I have not reflashed Modem... and i was using JB MIUI .... look i tried flashing official ICS of FRANCE and there is no problem with it... Is it possible that problem is with ROM itself?.... u know it's official!
and yes my IMEI is Geniune and I have network service

I have an i9300 with a blank efs folder. The phone corrupted and was stuck in a boot loop. This happened when battery run out while file sharing was in progress via bluetooth to another android samsung. I flashed it with 4.22 android jelly bean immediately XXUFME3 but it remained stuck on boot loop, I never backedup efs file. Later found the original ROM although it comes up as custom rom, which is i9300XXEMB5_i9300OXAEMB5 but still no luck as it stuck in boot loop. My sister has the same identical phone both were purchased together in Dubai. I did factory reset etc, no luck still in boot loop.
I later gave it to a mobile shop who flashed it with a rom for free, didn't charge me because it came up as imei null/null and baseband unknown. The phone now boots and has Build number of IMM76D.I9300BUALE6 and is german language I believe. I had read some threads by now and I immediately rooted the phone and backed it up, but my efs folder is blank.
Last night I flashed the phone 2 times with i9300xxemb5 rom and rooted it and it still boot looped even factory reset or cache delete don't solve boot loop, Then I restored the working rom of build i9300BUALE6 from CWM and powered phone on and got a baseband of i9300XXEMB5 and Build of i9300BUALE6 also got an imei of 004999xxxxx0000/01 and the phone found the network and my efs folder which had been blank all this time was full of files. In my haste I realized the sim was not plugged in and removed battery, when I restarted with sim, baseband was gone and imei was null/null. I repeated my steps in hopes I could get this fluke opportunity but nothing yet. Was this a miracles I didn't seize by not backing up the efs folder?
My sister's phone is an identical model bought together with mine is,
AP:i9300xxemb5
CP:i9300xxemb5
CSC:i9300oxaemb5
So my question is I need the original stock rom for my sisters phone that won't get stuck in a boot loop on my phone
My phone is now
AP:i9300buale6
CP:unknown
CSC:i9300vfgale6
Also can this be fixed by backing up my sister's efs folder or backing up her phone and flashing it on my phone. I can't get warranty for this phone now since it has binary counter of 12, don't have proof of purchase and also I am not in Dubai but in Africa. What Rom file should I try to flash. Also because this is a custom rom I am not getting samsung serial port in device manager can't use NV writer. Any help is appreciated.
If you don't have an efs backup then you need a service centre, you cannot repair it. Trying to use another phone's efs folder won't work and is illegal in many countries.
Read the sticky on efs:

If its a custom rom their is a very small chance that it included backup pf EFS .
Look for EFS tar file on phone .
I say slim chance and judged by the OP probably no chance .
004999xxxxx0000/0 that's just the generic non working IMEI .

Sorry to hijack this thread but I dropped my S3 i9300 on water and have the imei null /null and baseband unknown problem, therefore SIM cards are not recognized. Do you think my problem can be solved by doing something without taking it to samsung service? Meanwhile I ordered a SIM /SD tray replacement but my bet is it won't solve the problem.
Thank you.

hi from what you explained it seems that right now your phone has no baseband. One thing you can do to possibly recover your imei and network settings is to flash a stock rom that uses mg4 or mg2 baseband. use a rom from sammobile and flash with odin make sure you use a rom with an mg2 or mg4 baseband. good luck

A custom kernel has no connection with the lost of IMEI or it's a solution for the recovery of an IMEI. So no, no custom kernels will help you with your problem.
Either try ashraf's suggestion or ultimately bring it to a Samsung service center for repair.

I don't know about perseus kernel but I don't think it will help. your imei and efs foder was intact before flashing4.2.2. I understand that the problem began before flashing 4,2,2. but if you ever had a rom that used an mg4 or mg2 modem and then used an older modem your phone would lose its network connection and would probably display a generic imei number. if it says null usually that means it is corrupted or no modem is installed . either way if you send to service center you need to flash a stock rom and reset your flash counter . since some people have recovered their efs and imei by flashing newer modems or firm wares that use them why not try it before sending phone to service center

Thanks but you didn't read my first post. I did not flash any rom (or even root) before the problem, which started from dropping the phone on water...so I have no warranty left This means I can take the phone anyway I want (custom kernel, rooted) to samsung service cause they will charge me anywat.
But I think I will try to flash a rom like the other user sayd because I flashed the Perseus Kernel and the phone is now unstable and reboots randonly...
Cheers
my mistake that post was for the op of this thread
I don't care anymore that my original answer was
deemed not acceptable enough and warranted a second opinion. I am once and for all, going to put this nonsense to bed.
If you lost your imei because you submerged your phone in water it is a hardware issue. It is INCONCEIVABLE that flashing a rom, kernel or baseband will restore the imei. A SOFTWARE solution will NOT repair DAMAGED HARDWARE. This is obvious!
If your Blu ray player cannot read disks because the disk tray fell off, upgrading the laser driver wont help. This is exactly the same.
Depending which hardware failed, replacing the tray may help although given the symptoms, it seems much more likely that your radio stack is damaged. Take it somewhere to get it repaired and stop wasting time pretending software will fix your issue. It's IMPOSSIBLE

I see you're still struggling to understand this.
2) If the ROM is MG (M = 2013, G = July) or Newer, the ROM changes EFS format. This means if you flash one of these ROMs without backing up your EFS, you are restricted to using an MG modem or newer as only Modems from July 2013 can read new EFS format. I'm really not sure how I can make this any simpler to understand.
However, if you flash the modem separately from the ROM, EFS is not changed. So for example, if you are on ME7 ROM, you can flash MG2 modem without affecting EFS.
I hope this is clear now.

Dear rootSU,
you've been very patient with me and i really appreciate your efforts at making me understand and i've understood a lot because of you only, but what puzzles me is that
1)this restriction is for those who've not backed up EFS whereas in my case i had in the very beginning only made an EFS backup.
2)and if i flash ME7 ROM then since am coming from MG5 to ME7 my imei would again be corrupt and i'll have to flash MG2 baseband...right??even if i have an EFS backup(EFS PRO won't restore my imei in this case despite a backup)?
thanks in advance

Well when i started all this 4 months ago i didnt know anyting about anything so i didnt do any type of back up of the original firmware before ultima rom, i dont know what firmware was it but i can imagine wich one was it because was from a company called "Claro" from peru so may be if i get lucky there will be only one firmware from that country and that company. The Ultima rom i flashed that time was the v13, i know the EFS have change and that's proably why all this is happening i cant find a way to restore the EFS to it's original form.. probably if i found a way to do that i would even make the ultima rom work here too
There's no software solution for this unless you have efs backup , visit nearby service center
sent from marijuanated muffin
there must be a way. i mean if i install the ultima rom v13 and use the efs from that back up i made at least i should have the v13 with mobil networkin working right?
Did you try ultima rom with a custom kernal, if not give it a try, just reinstall the rom and the option is there on install.

Ok, few questions:
- check your imei *#06# does it match with your phone's? Check under battery.
If its different you messed up your efs partition indeed.
- that backup you have, was the phone working when you took it? Do you have access to its files? If you never installed any Samsung based rom that changes your efs partition format (newer official ones), id just try to replace the efs contents with the backup ones (assuming its a working backup). As far as I know, apart from the new roms that change efs's format, roms dont touch that partition so it should be fine regardless of where you took that backup.

- No, the IMEI that now is on the phone is: 004999010640000 very diferent from my imei on the back of my phone
- the back up i have is from the efs from the last working ultima rom, that ''working ultima rom'' only had the mobil network working but not the 3g. i tried to instal a stock rom and it didnt work so now i am trying to instal the older version of ultima rom that i had back when i did the back up of those efs, hoping that may be i will get mobil network working again at least.
anyways, i found a tool called SRS server that may help me restore my IMEI in any rom, my question about this is if i restore the IMEI on any rom to my original IMEI the other files from EFS dont affect the phone also? i mean if i only get my IMEI back on the phone no metter the rom it is, it will work?
Don't use the tool. Getting the imei correct is the easy part.
First thing to to imho is to go back to latest ultima. Ensure you choose the custom kernel not stock in options. Ensure you have the mg modem.
Lets to that and take it from there

Did you try ultima rom with a custom kernal, if not give it a try, just reinstall the rom and the option is there on install.
Also if you want to try a stock rom, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
Iys Netherlands but its what im on now for the time being, and its just a matter of setting to your language on firdt setup.

Yesterday I updated my i9300 to android 4.3
Baseband version I9300BUUGMJ3
Build number JSS15J.I9300XXUGMJ9
..and since then I haven't had any reception. My imei number, serial number, and everything else is same and still there, but I just can't get it to get reception again... When I go to my Mobile Networks, it says registered on network, but again, no reception. Then I tried installing the modem BUUGMJ3 with odin which didn't work. What can help? Stock firmware? Please help.
Thanks in advance.
currently experiencing the same issue mate. I can't seem to find a workaround/solution for this -__-
Is that base band supposed to work in your country? Find an modem later than EMGx, without a RIL, for your country and install that to test.

I've probably made a big mistake there, no it's meant for mine country, it's for the county near mine, Croatia, but I read somewhere that this doesn't matter.. :/
And by 'later than EMGx' I'm not sure what you mean, but I've flashed EMG4 modem which didn't seem to work.
Found something about flashing a previous modem and restoring your EFS folder, but I do not have my EFS folder backed up - I forgot to.
A few days ago I paid about $30 for a repair on my phone, I don't really want to send it off for repairs again, I really wonder if there is an fix to this
Follow the guides in general forum, stickies on how to flash back to 4.1.2 stock rom. Make sure it's at least EMG4 base band.

Yeah, about that...
first of all, sorry for bugging you so much..
but I downloaded the right stock firmware for my country, I9300XXEMG4_I9300BHTEMH1_I9300XXEMG4, but after I flash it via odin when the phone turns on it gets stuck in a loop showing the Samsung logo repeatedly...
Edit:
Okay, I managed to install the stock firmware 4.1.2 but it still is showing 'Emergency calls only', the modem is xxemg4...

how about your IMEI/Serial numbers? are they still the same before you downgrade and flashed the XEMG4 modem? mine are the same with SN/IMEI so I guess that's why it worked. I just took the risk cause I was really pissed experiencing the lag and the battery drain in 4.3.
Do factory reset from settings option in touch wiz, make sure the imei and serial number match the label under your battery.
If still no good then try another SIM in your phone, final steps would be restore efs backup then repair centre.

Well it's all the same as it used to be. Could it be that the modem I had before EMG4 changed the format of my efs folder?

Did a factory reset, imei, s/n same.
Android 4.1.2 EMG4 modem still no reception.
It seems that MGX modem has change ur IMEI from /efs1 to /efs2. MGX modem seems to support only 4.3 roms (due to some security issue).
It is not recommended, but u could flash an older rom with modem (get from www.sammobile.com) then restore an efs backup (if u did some) from /efs2 to /efs1

FYI: My serial Kay or IMEI is not 0000 they are fine.
Here’s the list from Setting->About Device->Status
Network: unknown
Service State: Out of service
Mobile Network State: disconnected
Device Status: Official
Also My Sim works fine in other Phones. Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Ariza patch only works on older modems (efs v1 modems). So, that wont help.
You said you flashed the zuluman modems but.... did you flash the patched kernels too? You need the patched kernels for the patched modems to work. I don't know why, but that's what zuluman says (according to him, the kernel has a modem signature check and it wont work if the modem was modified).

Here are all the patched modems and kernels made by zuluman.
https://drive.google.com/folderview...&usp=sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8
In my opinion you should flash the latest official firmware and download the appropiate modem and kernel from that google drive.
You can download the latest official firmware from the general section of this forum.
Good luck.
Remember to always have an efs backup!
Great thanks!

Flashing the Modem + Kernal after rooting the Phone works for me. I have flashed it using CWM.
Thanks once again.

i've the same problems with my s3. i flashed it OTA to Android 4.3
After this i had no signal. ...
When i found this thread i was so happy. BUT!!!
i downloaded all the modem and kernel files from the google drive and wanted to flash them (Patched_XXUGMK6_xxx.zip) with cwm recovery (latest version).
whenever i want to do this, i get the following message and the update aborts: "E:Can't copy META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary"
what can i do? Can i flash them with odin, too? Or does anybody have another idea?
here are some Infos about my Phone:
Android-Version: 4.3
Baseband: I9300XXUGMK6
Kernel: 3.0.31-2191747

Build: JSS15J.I9300XXUGMK6
hmm...
can nobody help me? ...
sorry for spamming, but i've got a problem without a phone
greetz,
Carpe.
You said your imei & serial is ok but you cannot register to network. Have you paid your bills?
But if it's corrupted serial number.
Try this guide.
thx for your answer.
Payed my bills? ... uuuuuups!
back to topic: i've flashed my phone back to 4.1.2 for the moment. Network seems to work. ... i'll try some things and give a feedback here. ...
You have to flash an Android 4.3 modem for it to work I think but as your on 4.1.2 now I guess it doesn't matter anymore
