Hi XDA, I got a big weird problem on my Xperia S. The problem occurs when I flash KA SSpeed Kernel v5. Here's the details of my problem:
Problem 1, First, while I'm using my phone, games, browsing, messaging or anything, my phone freezes. I restart my phone by pressing power and holding it together with volume up button. It restarted but after 3-5 minutes (doing nothing) it freezes again. I flashed another Kernel to see if the problem is with the Kernel but after flashing another Kernel (XSX, Advanced Stock, KA SSpeed 3, 3.1, 4.0) the problem still exists. So I decided to Flash back to stock to see if the problem is in my ROM (Mooded ICS by Chaos). After Flashing back to the Stock ROM problem 2 exist
Problem 2, It still freezes, I restart again, problem still there. I read some solutions in sony mobile forums site. They said that it is a sim card problem. the phone freezes after 3-5 minutes even though you're not doing anything. So I changed my sim card and yes the problem was gone. After 4-5 hours no freeze. I decided to put back my first sim card (it's a postpaid so I need that badly) after putting back my simcard, I waited 3-5 minutes, 10 minutes, an hour, up to night time. It didn't freeze, in short there is no problem at all, but then problem 3 occurs.
Problem 3, I charged my phone overnight, as I woke up, I can't turn on my phone, I restart it again manually (power button + volume up). It turned on, then after 3-5 minutes, doing nothing, it reboots sometimes it freezes, like my previous problem. now the weirdest problem is Problem 4.
Problem 4, everytime I use my phone, voice call, games, browsing, it didn't freeze or reboot, but when the phone is in idle mode, like charging, doing nothing it freezes, but sometimes (every afternoon, from 3pm to night time) it didn't freeze or reboot.
please help me. I don't know if these problems exist to your phones. I really need help. thank you!
Use another kernel.

<testing J's CM7> [Q] Constant rebooting; was annoying, now critical - X10 unusable
So I had an occasional spontaneous reboot problem which was annoying and inconvenient, but not crippling. Then I thought I'd fix it by upgrading my ROM.
Turns out I have no idea how to get xrecovery going (tried install through flashtool, through apk, etc., but no matter how many times I press "back" during the boot sequence, the SE logo always shows up to ruin my day) and that ruled out any newer, better ROMs.
So I used SEUS to "upgrade" back to 2.1.A.0.435 - still shaky.
This morning I tried the tweaks listed in the guide to flashtool (clean, optimize, etc.) and deleted every app that I don't think I need, but since I went to work, the battery has run out due to constant booting.
Sometimes I can check my SMS, and sometimes the screen turns on only to go dark for another reboot.
What can I do??
--EDIT--
So I got into xrecovery, now I must find a suitable ROM and cross my fingers...
--update--
11PM EST Mar 8: J's CM7 RC1 is running well so far, but I'll update after hours and days have passed.
10AM EST Mar 9: It has been running smoothly (and is a nice upgrade), but I've seen one spontaneous reboot
However, one is a lot better than every 5 minutes!!!
9:30AM EST Mar 15: I get a shutdown a few times a week, but I'm worlds better than before. GB is sweeet!!! Gonna wait for release 10 to upgrade.
Thanks J!!!!!
(and all those, such as Z, who made this ROM possible)
If I'm not the only one who failed to get xrecovery right, reply and I'll try to help!
Yea i've been having the same issue too, i found that it would reboot almost every 5 minutes when using the phone when i plug it in. especially when streaming youtube videos.
I tried multiple roms and also went back to stock rom by doing a repair. I was playing around with the fresh repair install and it is still rebooting.
Hopefully you have better luck with your device. I'm taking mine to rogers soon for a replacement.
I could find no pattern to my reboots. Sometimes I could use the thing for a while, and other times I'd hardly even see the screen before it quit.
I'm hoping FW is the answer because I got it used, so there is no hope of repair if flashing doesn't fix it...
I'm experiencing this reboot from J's latest CM7 rom with the custom kernel. Every 3 mins or so and the screen turn dark, no idea what to do.

I got it by installing the older vers of miniloader from the custom kernel dev thread but thanks! I'm doing a fresh install again with the instructions from the thread you linked.
I've had ENOUGH!Now I can't even charge it.It turns off after 5 minutes of recharging and then the battery discharges because of the constant reboots. So I've decided to try and start flashing and stuff(install custom roms).
Dfan can you please give me a few advices, pointings , etc... for what am I about to do?
Thank you for your time.
@OP, from what I have understood from your post, your phone has a fault before you have 'updated' using SEUS.
Try the 'repair' function in SEUS to restore everything into factory settings?
dude, stop using j's ROM till he fixes it. I recommend Trip's GB MiUI. make sure your phone is fully charges when installing a new ROM, or else you'll get boot loops, and FC's. once you have your xrecovery installed(I recommend manually install it) you should never have to reinstall it, unless you use SEUS.

hi all.
i have a problem on my xperia mini pro.
i dont know whats wrong.
when i lock my phone, and i want to turn it on back, it is turn off and suddenly the S.E logo appears.
seems like rebooting back.
sometimes when i make the screen timeout for 30minutes, it will also turn off by itself and restart back by itself. sometimes it goes off and no reboot back.
i have search on XDA and found that few problems like mine.
i try few solution like take out the battery, uninstall apps which maybe make my phone turn off.
i also reflash my phone to 2.3.3 and also reflash back to 2.3.4. it just goes the same. my warranty have void as i have unlock my bootloader.
i just dont root my phone yet as i think rooting my phone doesnt help this problem.
someone can help me? i really miss my phone like the old days to tweeting and facebooking without any turn off and reboot by its own.

I bought the phone over from bobo. And yes it does make a difference.
This problem does not occur whenever the phone is plugged in. However while running on battery, if I leave it be and once it goes into standby, it would not turn on again.
Seems to me it went into sleep of death.
At the moment, I have no idea how to fix it. But I've found a workaround by keeping the CPU on when the display is off by using wake_lock. However this workaround is a little battery consuming.

bro i have this problem before, what im doing before was playing music on mute for it not to turn off NOT until 0.62 FW came out and the problem was solved, it doesnt turn off on stock 0.62 fw and stock 2.3.4 but the screen when locked automatically turns on and off multiple times, its annoying..really so i decided to unlock my bootloader, flashed rooted 0.62 FW from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440161, turning on and off phone and screen solved, flashed its respective ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373435, and now my phone is so stable and having no more problem.
i think the only problem i noticed just now is the back button (its not really a button) and the option button's light is turning off and on while screen is on. but thats better than your phone turns on and off or your screen.
i hope this helps.

I've done this too. Flashed the same kernel, and the same ROM as you did. But the problem still prevails in my phone. I still have to keep control of wake_lock to prevent CPU from sleeping while the display is off.
Btw, when I flashed the kernel, under my "About" in the settings, it still says .58 instead of .62.

you mean in the Settings>About Phone> in the build number it should have HYBROM V9 by boof not the kernel name like .58 or .62 if you flashed the kernel and rom correctly.
disable lockscreen
Try to disable your lockscreen in the settings menu. Maybe that helps
My phone have the very same problem.
Any good new?
I've tried the factory restore. Didn't solve the problem.

Hi ,
I am also facing the issue with phone from last week, I tried without memory card , without SIM and even change them to, I though it was software issue so I reloaded it from Sony Tool but still the same issue, cant use my phone at all until or unless I plug it on raw power. Its working fine on charging mode but with Battery its not at all working. Not sure whats wrong with it.
Could you please guide me on it, what I need to do , is it hardware issue? or related with software?
Already wiped and restore the phone as well.
Tried battery replacement as well but its not at all working.

Hi guys!
I've got a Xpera Sola a couple of months ago, and it keeps random freezing and rebooting quite frequently,
at a time base of a dozen times a day, which make it unusable.
I've been waiting for new ROMs and hoping for a cure, stock 2.3s, stock 4.0s, and cm9s, but none of them works.
The only difference between stock and cm is stock do HANG/REBOOT but cm just HANG and drain battery.
While lost faith in new ROMs, I tried to figure it out myself, and here is what I found:
No reboot/hang in airplane mode (so it's the radio?)
No reboot/hand when ADB is pluged (so BAD news!)
My configuration:
Bare ROM, no additional apps.
GSM networked SIM card / no SIM card, makes no difference (I have no WCDMA card so can't test)
Wifi / no Wifi, makes no difference (maybe hang more often with Wifi on, but I'm not sure)
SD card (2G) / SD card (4g) / SD card (16G) / NO SD card, makes no difference
CPU governors, no difference
wake lock, wifi lock, accquired with terminal in cm9, still hang
Any feedbacks are welcome, need your help!
Thank you very much!
some updates:
the problem still there, tried cm to 213 and .54 Italy/China and munjeni's MIUI.
getting hung when using the phone only happened in stock or stock based roms, not in CMs.
stock based roms seemed to have a watch dog to reboot the phone in a 2-5 min interval, but not sure whether it's in kernel or in rom.
guess the hang happened when awaking from deep sleep mode, and no deep sleep no hang (such like when ADB is active and deepsleep disabled).
forget one thing:
witnessed one hang issue in air plane mode.
I assume you are on stock ROM, this is not normal. Did you try repairing with PCC?

I had almost your problems, but not so often (hang or reboot every one or two days) and the combination indicated above improved the situation very much.

Hey,
since about two weeks my i9300 keeps hanging/rebooting randomly. Today it crashed thrice after about one minute after rebooting but the song that was currently playing finished. Just after that, it hang and did nothing. When the phone hangs all I can do is manually force it to reboot. Sometimes it just reboots out of nowhere. This happens mostly when locked and not being used. The logcat is pastebin.com/QdjjrJMT and the dmesg is pastebin.com/bXDJ0fXK Anything that I can do?

Had the same problem weeks before and solved it with another kernel type. Here are many on the board that are worth to give a try
I have three new logs (connected wirelessly to the device for debugging as it never seems to crash when connected via USB) and left adb logcat running until the device crashed, maybe they help:
knubbig.de/f/log.txt
knubbig.de/f/log2.txt
knubbig.de/f/log3.txt
Am not allowed to post links, sorry.
Would be nice if I could keep everything I have and just solve the problem. Thanks.
I have the same problem for a week now. Was on CM 10.1 nightly 14/03/2013. Complete reinstall and wipe didn´t help.
On Saturday i had 15 freezes/reboots in a row...
Changed yesterday to ParanoidAndroid 3.1 and so far only two freezes this morning. I´m still wondering if it´s the hardware or the software...
freeze
I am having the same problem for 4 days. I used mega wipe , installed 5-6 custom roms but it still freezes and today it started to reboot randomly.
8 reboots/freezes this morning. Other customs doesn´t make it better.
I´m trying a stock rom now and putting it back to warranty status.
I think (at least it seems) I solved it by going back to stock, then re-rooting via cf-auto-root and then installing cm again. I got it to the state i had 24 hours ago with crashes only last evening and it hasn't crashed since.
SGS3 GT-I9300 random reboot all the time, no complete boot.

Hi folks.
My SGS3 had a workshop replacing the motherboard some 2 weeks ago, right the way i installed root and setup "Siyah-s3-v1.8.9-CWM" With UltimaRom v.10 on primary rom, "FoxHound_Rising_2.3_Full-Essential_JellyBean" on the second rom.
This worked great for about a week, then the phone out of the blue starts rebooting all the time, for hours and hours or until it runs out of battery.
No Stock recover through Kies can solve the problem With reboot.
Try to reflash With various roms through Odin With, Aroma installer starts, let me choose the options best suited for XELLA build and after aroma setups is finished and the phone goes on With rom setup, after 2sek or when setup starts or try to start it goes to blackscreen and setup dies.
Have tried many kernels and roms, but the Device is dead.
Any ideas on where to start looking?
Thanks a lot for Your time

I had the same issue. At first I thought it was the SDS fix, and then it stopped right out of the blue. I'd suggest just using it for another week or two. If it doesn't stop, let us know and then we can maybe find a solution.
Usually it's caused by the phone calling a memory block which is faulty, the fix then tells the phone to stop and it crashes, to save it from dying.

It´s not as simple as you say. Stock is running fine. But whenever I flash a custom rom, I get random freezes after some time.
But only a few freezes, not nearly as many as before...
So, the freezes are now gone since six days. Flashed a stock rom 3 times in a row.
It´s running fine like before, and i´m gonna stay with stock rom for a few days more to be sure.
HI ALL,
i have been facing a problem for last two days. I updated my Xperia P to JB using pc companion. It was working fine. Suddenly there was an issue in the morning the day before yesterday. It suudenly started to Reboot automatically.
First the logo of sony and xperia comes and dissolves. Then the default loading wave of xperia appears but instead of going to the lock/home screen it starts the booting process again and this process repeats.
I switched off my phone using lockkey+volume up. i tried to update/repair my phone using PC copanion and Sony Update service. Both case the latest software is downloaded and installed. But after installation when i try to switch on, it goes to the menu screen normally and asks me to select time format, language etc... but when it asks me to search for Wi-Fi networks if i touch on 'search for available networks' it falls in the same reboot loop again & the Home screen never comes..
afterwards, i skipped that step of WIFI and now it works fine.. but the problem is when i hit the WIFI it falls in the same loop. Now i am in a fix ... i dont know how to solve this and without WIFI there is just no use of this phone
the device was not rooted nor flashed before
What should i do? Try to flash my ROM?

It's a long shot but have you tried to reboot your router?
Since it worked for a while, and you repaired the phone and it still exists, I am guessing it's not a problem that related only to the firmware.
Could be hardware problem.
