Welcome
Yes, i have read about usbStorage weirdness. But still i hope to find solution to my problem.
1. I saved some files (photos) to the root of internal memory (/data/some_folder/)
2. While my phone was connected by USB to the PC, I moved these files from /data/some_folder/ to /mnt/sdcard/usbStorage (as I expected, that this will work like regular folder. Now i know, it does not).
3. moved files disappeared from /data/some_folder/ and also does not exists in /mnt/sdcard/usbStorage
What can i do about it?
a) if I want to undelete from /data/some_folder/ - programs for undelete does not recover from main memory of phone, specially from root.
b) if i try to undelete from usbStorage - no file is found.
c) i tried to connect to mobile a pendrive by OTG cable - no files are shown in usbStorage
I searched everywhere, but could not find a solution.
This is why i am asking here for help, as this forum probably gathers the best specialists.
Try to present a post better than the effort youve tried. You talk about "moving" files, then want to "undelete" them.
If I was you Id search each partition for photo files(jpeg or whatever).

I moved the files to usbStorage folder, because I expected them to be moved. Only after that I noticed weirdness of this folder. Moving operation, as you may know, contains from 2 parts: copying to new location and deleting from old. Since none was copied to new location (or at least I cannot see it) and in the same time all was deleted from old location, I was thinking to solve te problem by undeleting from old location.
Of course I have searched an entire memory for those files, but none found.

I do not really understand where (i.e. in which memory) you lost your files. However if this memory is accessible when you connect your phone by USB to a PC, then you could try PhotoRec to recover the photos.

The folder lies in a root of main memory. The path is /data/some_folder/. It can be accessed by for example Total Commander or ES Explorer (on android, not on PC).

So, long story short: my internal sd card is infected with virus
The details:
Today I plugged my phone via usb to my laptop to transfer some files when I discovered that all of my folders have become .exe files. When I tried to open them, my antivirus software said there is a trojan, to be exact this one - Win32.HLLW.Napad.
Last week I was using my friend's usb drive in my phone with the option USB on the Go and maybe this was the source of the infection.
Anyway, the question is what to do now??? I am using Dr. Web on my laptop, scaned the internal sd card and found 61 infected files/folders. The problem is I can't cure them. The only option is to move them to quarantine. When I do that and plug my phone again, they are gone. BUT when I use file manager on the phone, the files and folders are still there.
After moving the files/folders to quarantine... and use file manager on my phone to browse the internal sd, their extensions are displayed corectly now. Before that all the folders were .exe. What does that mean???
Any suggestions how to cure/clean them cuz I don't want to delete any of them. We're talking about pics folder, data, music & etc. ??
Thanks in advance.
Try one of the many data restore packages via USB to PC.. sure a search will provide plenty available.
If not able to retrieve format the storage yes you will loose everything but hey presto problem solved, not that that virus 'if isn't false positive" would be a problem to device since not same architecture..
Then in future keep backing up images to computer or us online storage from phone...

Hi!
I've intalled lightning rom v1.1 on my previously rooted SGS2. I first wiped cache, dev: cache and did factory reset. Then, I intalled it via odin and everything worked fine. But I cannot see the contents of "/sdcard/usbStorage" anymore, either through "my files" or "astro manager". I can still copy files to that folder from my PC but I can't access it from my phone.
I'm not sure it is a prblem or not.
Could someone plz help me?
Do you even have something plugging in via USB OTG? If not, what are you expecting to be there?

Sorry, i'm a newbie and i don't get ur meaning.
I mean . . . I can see the files I put in that folder from PC, but from my device . . it is empty. It was not like that with my old official firmware.
If I put something into other folders rather than "usbStorage", I can browse them form SGS2. Sorry, if I confuse u.
Thanks

Your confusing the USB storage folder with the external sd one.

You're right. I was thinking of sdcard/usbdisk.

MB, I meant that the OP was confusing the 2, not you. From what I read you were spot on. The USB storage only shows files/folders when you connect a USB stick to the phone, otherwise it is empty.
What I think he's doing is connecting to the PC and connecting the 2 drives (int & ext). He then moves files to/from the external card. But then when he's exploring on the phone he sees the USB storage folder and thinks that's where the files are. But they are in external sd instead.

No, i'm not.
"/sdcard/usbStorage" folder totally lies in internal storage of phone(SGS2).
"/sdcard/external_sd" folder is where external card lies.
I used to put some documents in "usbStorage" folder(in internal storage) and opened it from my phone.(with old firmware)
But now, i can't open that folder from my phone anymore. I don't know if that folder is meant to be opened only from computer(in lightning rom). If it is so, its ok.
Otherwise, I fear whether I've made some mistakes during installing ROM.

I don't know why you decided to ignore the other, correct replies, including my own, but /sdcard/usbStorage is only meant for USB OTG devices, nothing else. Stop trying to put things in there unless you're using USB OTG. If you do connect something via USB OTG, such as a memory card or hard disk, it will show up in that folder.
yep mate...in gb we can put file in that folder....but in ics it only for usb otg.....before when using gb i can mount it in cwm and transfer files but now it only for usb otg. live with it mate, its not a big deal.
Hi All
Has anyone else had problems accessing usbStorage since upgrading to ICS? Under Gingerbread i was happily able to connect the phone to a PC and drop music/video files into the usbStorage folder to carry around with me (I currently have no MicroSD card). I could access these from the phone with no problems.
Since upgrading to ICS, anything i drop into the folder on the PC dosen't show up within the phone (folder is blank) yet it still reports the space as decreased.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Andrew
Upon using Astro to look at the usbStorage folder it appears to have the permissions "dr-" whereas all the others on the internal memory have "drw". Does anyone know if this has been locked down in ICS? I've wiped the storage area but still no joy.
I'm not 100% sure what you're asking.
Is there any particular reason for putting files in the /usbStorage folder?
The drive that this folder is located on is your Internal SD, meaning you can put files anywhere on there and they'll be visible in file explorers, and when you connect to your computer you can see the whole of the Internal SD, so there's no real reason to put stuff in that folder if it's causing issues.
I'm not quite sure why it exists in the first place to be honest, I assume it's a relic of a previous bind to another location (like a shortcut, in the same way as external_sd is a shortcut to the micro SD card in some ROMs).
If there's no particular reason for using that specific folder, I'd advise just creating your own home folder on the Internal SD, that's what I've done.
EDIT: When you put stuff in there on the PC, but then it doesn't show up on the phone even though the available space has decreased, does it still appear when you connect back to the PC and look in that folder?
It sounds like it might be an active bind to another directory which is currently empty. I think that when you connect to a PC, folders that are acting as binds/shortcuts don't act as such in terms of how the PC sees them. So basically, when you put something in there on the PC it actually puts it in the /usbStorage folder, but when you navigate there on your phone, it sends you to where the bind/shortcut leads, meaning you can't actually look at what's inside the folder.
I'm likely to be corrected by someone who understands binds better than me, or who knows what the /usbStorage folder is actually for, this is just me guessing based on the things I've learned about binds over the past few days.
The usbStorage folder is only for use with USB OTG devices. Stop sticking stuff in it if you're not using USB OTG.

Ha, I was right, enter the more knowledgeable amongst this forum's users. Thanks for setting me straight.
Out of interest, is this folder working as a bind, or does USB OTG work in its own, slightly different way?
@OP: I'd still suggest just creating your own home folder on the root of the Internal SD. This way you can name it whatever you want, and I've filled mine with a bunch of useful subfolders for separating music/video/docs etc. like your home folder on a PC. Many file managers will let you create a shortcut to it on your home screen or set it as the default location when you open the file manager. This means you can avoid trudging through the often crowded root of your internal SD (since so many apps seem to dump their crap there, many without good reason) in day to day use.
Thanks guys, I believe I got everything confused right from the beginning.
When I first had my phone I saw the folder /external_sd/ for a microSD and then incorrectly assumed /usb_storage/ was for the internal 16GB, so used it to store stuff. I could access over MTP when plugged in and could files from within the phone.
Since ICS /usbStorage/ now appears to function differently and acts as a mount point for when the phone is set to USB mass storage mode (Settings > More > USB utilities > USB mass storage). Any space claimed by files dropped in via the PC is not available to the phone.
Does that sound right?
I too have had this problem since I've upgraded to ICS , I use to be able to plug my Garmin GPS device via OTG cable and browse and update files.
Now with ICS installed , the phone doesn't seem to enable USB storage or mount my device.
I see a bunch of error messages in the log related to USB
Code:
E/DataRouter( 1832): DrReadUsbStatus returns false USB is offline
E/DataRouter( 1832): DrReadUsbStatus returns false USB is offline
E/DataRouter( 1832): DrReadUsbStatus returns false USB is offline
E/DataRouter( 1832): DrReadUsbStatus returns false USB is offline
note it used to mount as /mnt/sdcard/usbStorage/sda/
I have this folder (with files from a download) that I have tried to delete from the phone storage (not the external SD Card).
No matter the method attempted, I keep getting:
"Cannot delete folder: The storage is write-protected.
Remove the write-protection and try again".
I've tried many ways on the phone itself (through Root Explorer...and I did make sure the RW is active), debugging has been tried on as well as off, etc...
Through the PC (Win7 SP1) as well (debugging on and off for this too). All drivers work for the phone, and no other problems. Can easily transfer files from the computer to the device.
I'm stock rooted with overclock kernel (but don't keep it overclocked).
I don't want/need this folder/files. Its not a system folder/file. I have moved it into my 'download' folder just to keep an eye on it. If I try to 'move it' to the external card, all it does is 'copy'.
Any and all helpful information would be greatly appreciated, as this is driving me nuts trying to delete this thing.

When I come across a suck folder like that I open the folder and delete each file one-by-one. Then delete the empty folder.
For persistent files I've had to change the file extention to delete it.
I copied all my files to PC and had to format my card. Then I re copied all the files to the card.
Nothing I did could save it.
Edit I read incorrectly. Its your internal card.

I have the same issue...the internal sd card is giving me a write protection error.
Any way to fix it without doing a full wipe?
Thank you!
Why not backup ur important sd card commponents to ur PC , then goto custom recovery do internal/external sd card full wipe and then restart ur phone ! it worked for me. the restore all ur backup files.

Acutally I just solved it with really easy way on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I was studying formus for 2 hours and not one answer or advice helped So I did this:
1. turned off USB debugging in developers menu
2. after connecting my phone to pc I switched the phone to behave as media device (MTP) and not as camera (PTP) (in notification bar there will be "connected as a media device/as a camera" option after connection to PC - click on it and swtich it)
3. now everything works like a charm and I can delete and write to the SD card without a problem

It does not work your idea
open the phone then remove battery, (without switching off the phone) after you removed battery remove sd card also, and wait for 10seconds and put in sd card again, put battery too and switch on your phone, after this u can delete everything u couldn't. Hope it works for you too.
When I switch to media device than when I click on "phone" or "card" when I click, it says, device has stopped working or been disconnected.
Help!
1. Flash A Recovery ( I recommend TWRP).
2. Then Go to Advance >> File Manager.
3. Browse the File/ Folder you wanna delete.
4. Open the folder and go to option's (the blue coloured box with a tickmark).
5. Select Delete, and Swipe To Confirm.
(This procedure is for TWRP. Procedure may be different, depending on your recovery)

Hi,
I have some problem with files on my tablet.
When i connect my tablet to my computer with USB cable or with WiFi access i can't see some files/folders
For exemple i've recorded a video but i can't take it by exploring my tablet with my computer, i see the file with the files manager app in the tablet but not on my comp.
I've tried to reboot the tablet, nothing changed.
I'm really mad at this **** how i'm supposed to send files to my comp that's ridiculous!
I don't know if it's important but i'm on stock ROM i'm just rooted and unlocked BL.
You can only see files which are in the /sdcard subtree (=on the internal sdcard) and are not hidden files.
You can't see files outside of /sdcard.
