Best Stock like ROM - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
i finnaly have Galaxy s3.
i have installed Omega ROM but i dont know if it is the best or not:
bassically i want STOCK like ROM but with improoved mods, also maybe SD card for using as internal memory.
unfornetelly Omega does not have OTA for example
in order to keep stock appearance with custom rom, what is your opinions ?
i thought of creating a table in order to be for easier to compare roms...maybe someone can help
regards

New SGS2

Hi guys,
I'm new in the Samsung scene, I've Always used HTC phones before. My question is not how to flash (i'll first search for it myself), but if anyone could recommend me a rom with the look and feel of the SGS3 software.
I've searched but couldn't find anything i think works 99%.
thx

Try Resurrection remix 2.6.1. Based on ICS and stable as a rock. I'm pretty new myself and been using it for a while.Easy to install and no issues whatsoever. :good:
First of all, are you sure you have an i9100 and not an i9100G, a skyrocket (AT&T or Rogers), a Galaxy S2 LTE HD, etc?
If you do have an i9100, this is the forum for you. If not, try and find your right forum...
I'd look in the SGS2 android dev forums and not the Original Android Dev forums. Alot of cooks have ROMs with SGS3-like themes... And there's possibly a touchwiz5 mod in the themes section. I know the ripple lockscreen was ported too...
To be honest, alot of ROMs exist but it's a question of taste... I know Resurrection remix is a popular one. Alot of people switched to Cyanogenmod when ICS hit though, as ICS wasn't up to par for Samsung's implementation...
Your best bet is to flash a custom kernel with CWM recovery in Odin (Alot of guides to do this) like CF-Root and then grab ROMs and flash them through CWM. If you want a kernel that's able to dual boot, you can use DreamKernel, Siyah, etc. That way you can get one ROM going and test a second ROM as a secondary. Dual booting can be achieved because we have a 500MB partition on our phones that isn't used for anything... Fun, is it not?
And The other rom is pfittech ics rom and is also stable and he is working on stable jb rom as among other devs

I think i'll wait untill a port of the new JB update for the S3 gets ported
I've always used Slim ICS, very light weight and customizable.

Agreed i'm a big resurrection remix fan, the dev updates his rom uber frequently, more than most others. Respect!!

I'd go with rootbox. Just because the dev updates more frequently does not mean it's a better rom. The ones who don't update frequently just mean they don't have bugs to fix...

If you are bored with the original ROM.
It took me 10 days to get bored with the original ROM
OK... ok... but... I mean somtehing like: best performance, optimization in battery drain, cool themes,...
Dont ask for best roms etc.If you like stock then stick with it.

1. best performance is subjective but many people have had better luck with custom ROMs because they contain much less bloatwares compared to the stock firmware.
2. You only need to flash a custom kernel to optimize battery drain. You don't need to flash a custom ROM for that.
Although, you have to note that, all custom ROMs are bundled with custom kernels.
3. When it comes to enjoying cool themes, then custom ROM is the way.
You will even enjoy much better and probably endless theme options on AOSP ROMs.

1. because I can, so why not just try another thing
2. that's the main benefit of android aside from other things, there are custom stuffs for almost anything
3. because i cook custom roms too for my local friends since symbian days and now Android, so there is no way i can just stick with the stock firmware.
4. I get bored easily.

Tell you what...... go visit a psychiatrist and ask him.
Should you change from stock to custom well that is totally down to personal choice, and how about you try it and if you don't like it then change back. Thread Closed

[Q] New on S3.. what mod do you recommend me?

Hi for all... thats basically my question, what mod do you recommend? I thinked CM but it's currently oj nightlyes builds and has a lot of entendible bugs.. f4k mod didn't lime me, i hear omega.. but what is the more "stable", "quicker," mod possible? My idea is install a good mod and install tons of apps and games with no problems.. thanks in advance and please sory my english i'm argentinian.. .
Omega 100% stable and the developer indie doesn't stop. Always updated to the latest firmware. Also a lot of theme support on the thread. Check out motomoto theme its a beauty.

they're called ROMs, not mods, and asking for the best ROM is against the rules

Sure? Because I Think what android eclair, froyo, ics, ebean all of them are ROMS And things such cyanogen, criskelo ,darkys etc are MODS for the android ROMS!... and im NOT asking for the BEST "rom".. simply i am asking for suggestions .. i readed so much stu**d questions here and i think mine is not so bad... thanks for read anyway

eclair, froyo, ics, etc are versions.
cm, darky, criskelo, omega are all roms that are modded. mods on the other hand are specific changes that do not include the whole rom with it. it depends on having a rom as a base to install onto.
stuff like removing charging notifications or add camera functionality are mods. the ability to add any app to multi Window is a mod, but cm, darky, omega etc are ROMs. they're completely independant and does not require a flashing of another rom as a base.
and yes, you are asking for what the best rom is. the fact is, you'll have to just try different roms and see which one suites your need. check the all in one sticky thread for a link to another thread that categorizes roms based on what concept of android they're going for (stock, aosp, aokp, sense, etc etc).
all of these roms are very well documented and they explain what their rom was built for.

[Q] What stock (little modified) rom you are running on i9300?

Hey!
For start i will say that THIS IS NOT BEST ROM THREAD
I just wanna ask ppl wich roms they are using on their S3 i9300. Because getting through unsegregated list of AOSP/AOKP/STOCK roms is little confusing and i cannot find some kind of list of stock modified roms(i dont like that holo feel).
So XDA users? Will you help me?

If I remember well, wanams Rom is the least modified?
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
Thanks for reply but the list you linked links to aosp/aokp roms wich i simply hate.
And now im on Wanam rom and i realy hate it. it may have sammy base but in end it behaves just like aokp/aosp.
Thanks anyway.
I sense a mod will lock this one quite quickly, there is a good reason why it's against the rules -all the useful threads would disappear in a flood of pointless babble.

I used also Wanam rom and it was really good if ur after stock. U might want to try S4 Revolution also, its as close as it gets to stock with updates from S4 if u pick the right stuff in AROMA.

Stock ICS based rom for WT19i

Hello friends.
I am looking for a very simple rom. Actually I am very happy with the Stock ICS 587 Rom .. all I want is those bloatware and all unnecessary apps removed so I get more phone memory. I dont want lots of bells and whistles .. I want performance and stability. I'll use only 3 or 4 apps (google chrome .. file manager .. and probably thats it) and I want it to be fast and responsive.
I found a thread with bloatware removed stock rom .. but its unstable. My phone restarts every now and then.
So please suggest me a rom or point me to some thread where I can find it. Thank you:fingers-crossed:

Dear mihahn .. I am sure you didn't read my post completely
I am not asking for a best rom .. I am looking for an ICS stock based rom with less bloatware and customization. I don't mind trying different roms thats where the fun right? But I like the stock rom and so looking for something based on it.
The term "best" differ from person to person. A super light mod would be best to me .. but could be worst to many !!

Thank you droid_user. I have already tried that one .. my lww restarts every now and then with it. I'll try it again with different kernel.
Yup the karandpr thread is awesome .. it helped me a lot.
While this is not a best ROM thread these types of threads are an incentive for others to start posting well XX is better than YY, some developers do not like seeing their work compared to that of others, not only that but it can cause flaming between fanboys.. For that reason i'll be closing the thread. From looking at your post, why not flash a rooted Stock ICS and remove all the bloatware with a root-explorer.
