kernal password help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after a bit of reading and alot of head scratching ive found the bits i need to root my GS2.
found an unsecure kernal here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619525 , but i need a password, and theres nothing in the comments section (ive been through all 6 pages).
can anyone help me please?
thanks in advance

Flash CF-Root OR Siyah/Dorimanx/Fluxi/Dream [...] kernel.

Password: [email protected]
That didn't work for you?

thanks for the quick reply, but ive tried all of em in different variations and alone and im getting no joy
any ideas?

thanks nicholas1520, that worked for me this time.
much appreciated.:good:

Why would you flash that unknown, insecure kernel when there are several safe ones?
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100

im a complete noob!.
ive been reading that you put the unsecure on first, then run root software (which ive done)
ive now rooted the S2, so if you would be kind enough to link or point me in the direction of a secure kernel to put on the phone now, id be very appreciative.
i just folowed a guide i found on google (probably outdated now) but it was easy for a noob like me, and im feeling proud ive done my first root!
i still have the triangle on the screen when turning on, so any help / point in the right direction is appreciated.
i used : Kernel_I9100XWLP7_INSECURE.tar.md5 to root the phone.
cheers

What's you model number? If it's i9100, flash Siyah kernel.
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100

it is an i9100.
is the firmware on this site?
would i loose anything ive already put on the phone, or would it just install over the stuff already on there?
cheers

Kernel is kernel not userdata.

sorry if this sounds like a daft question but,if i just flash SiyahKernel S2-v4.0.1 stright onto the phone, it will be a secure kernel, i wont loose root / anything ive put on there and i can just carry on as normal?
again, sorry for the "simple" questions, i know some of you must be thinking its so easy, but im still trying to take it all in....but im getting there, so please excuse any ignorance, its not intended.
thanks for all your help so-far, it is appreciated. i hope i can help someone out in the future too

check the link below for siyah v4.0.1 tar file dwnld the same and flash the zimage file thro Odin.
Siyah v4.0.1.tar

cheers for the link.
once downloaded, i go to extract using both winrar and 7zip, and it comes out as a Zimage.
am i using the wrong extraction tool or do i not need to extract at all?
thanks

after flashing, i still get the yellow triangle on start up, is that normal or is this still an unsecure kernel?
any good secure ones out there?
thanks

It's normal in that the triangle shows when you flash a kernel that was not signed by Samsung while the phone is in download mode, probably using Odin. (but this applies to other tools such as Heimdall - as long as the phone is in download mode) The triangle will disappear if you flash a Samsung stock kernel back via download mode. You shouldn't lose root if you do this, but you will lose all the other features of Siyah if you do.
The triangle is pretty inconsequential, unless you for whatever reason need to send it in for warranty service.

Hey,
first question:
You are able to get in download mode? (volume down + home button + power button)
If yes, be cool
So when u are able, flash a stock Rom with "re-partition".
This means also that you must have a stock Rom with 3 files (or sometimes more), but not the one .tar file.
If you've done this, your phone should work normal.
Then try to root again with the right "cf-root" for the android version, you flashed.
Good luck!

Just out of curiosity: I always read, you should never select "re-partition".
Why do you suggest this here right now for a StockRom?
Thanks in advance.

Never when it's just a one part .tar file!
If you have three or more you can choose for odin (phone, modem, csc)

What I have read it only works if pit file is available, but even then re-partition should not be used. And a one-file tar generally contains the same files (phone, modem, csc) as the three-file-combo.
That's why I'm so confused.
Im honestly glad you guys know what your talking about

The .pit file is only needed by three-file-combo.
Then you can check also the repartition.
If you have one file .tar, the .pit-file is senseless and never should check repartition.
Sure in one file you have nearly the same "files" like in three, but in three-file they can be written separatly on right partition.
Mates don't get me wrong but just accept it
I'm not a dev or scripter but but flashed a lot.
Never bricked my phone but often hanging in bootloop and so on.
And like you see the way with re-partition can help.
I Never flashed a stock Rom since I had my SGS II, but like I said I'm flashing a lot and I had the SGS before, too
Hope all question are answered.
If not pls ask devs for more info.
But that's the general things I can tell you

Wrong, you can use it with both single tarball archive or with the 3 component tarball. You don't need to repartition the device unless you need to change the partition layout for whatever reason or you've damaged your partition layout.

1) Right, he damaged it so he needed it.
2) No you shouldn't use it by one file flash!
Read threads and experiences from users which have probs after flashing like this if at all possible to flash.
But however I don't wanna say anybody how to flash.

[Q] secondary bootloader help

Can someone post step by step instructions for flashing stock bootloader? One of the first things that I did to my SGS2 I777 was download leaked version of 2.3.5. I downloaded the i777 UCKH7 sbl.tar but I am obviously missing something as I can't even get this to open. I have flashed other things with odin such as Entropy512's stock kernel and unnamed rom v1.3.1 and I have never had a problem. What am I missing?

If you installed these two files, it was with ClockworkMod Recovery, not odin. There is no odin flashable .tar file for either of these. A statement like this indicates that you need to do some reading.
The implication of your post is that the first thing you did with your phone was to flash the 2.3.5 leak (I'm guessing UCKJ2) without having a clue what your were doing. You may not get too much sympathy here. But if you will give more details of your situation and problem, I'll try to help.
Thanks for the reply. I have been doing that but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.

I have read alot about this as I am trying to learn about android (noob). I can not learn everything right away, but I will keep reading and learning as time goes by. Obviously there is alot to learn. You answered my question. I really do appreciate your reply. In the future I will try to explain the situation better. Yes I did install 2.3.5 which changed the bootloader and was confused about this file so I asked before screwing up my phone. From your response, maybe I will just live with the new bootloader. Thanks again.
There's always some risk flashing bootloaders. If you leave the modified bootloader, the only difference I know about is that you will not be able to reset the flash counter with a jig. Other than that, it probably doesn't matter. If you want to flash the sbl.tar file, you would do that with Odin3 version 1.85 or 1.82. Put the tar file in the PDA slot.

installed cwm instead of rooting first onto a clean sgs2 ..i need help please?

hi
SHORT VERSION
installed cwm via odin onto sgs2 then cf root after.
phone goes into recovery and cwn but wont boot. (boots to logo then goes off)
i have original stock rom and .dll files
scared to flash through odin using .pit with .dll

i should of known better as i have rooted and installed cwn
so many times before but on this occasion i blame tiredness and
people yapping in my ears.
what i have did was to installed cwm onto a new 4.0.3 sgs2 phone via odin (pda then start)
then after noting my mistake i tried to boot the phone. it boot to logo screen then switch off.
i decided to cf root it with odin (again only pda and start) but again the phone boots to logo and triangle
then goes off.
maybe im in good luck the phone goes into recovery mode and cwn but wont boot.
i have the stock rom files that i downloaded
1, I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5
2. SS_DL.dll

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100% what you're doing, as its one of the easiest ways to brick your device.
I have a few questions before I can help you.
Can you get into download mode?
- If you can go to www.sammobile.com, download a stock firmware, flash through odin. If it still doesnt boot, try to wipe data/factory reset through 3e (stock recovery), then try to boot again.
-- After you do that, flash a cf-kernel to root the device.

Confused Root help needed

OK people, I've been rooting for a long time now but a replacement handset has me confused as to where to go. I even went back to reading the CF n00b guide but I'm still none the wiser. It seems that you actually run a firmware with the eMMC brick bug (XWLPT). These firmwares/kernels are affected: XXLQ5/6/7/B - ZCLPL - XWLPM - XWLPO - XWLPT - MUGLD3‎(?). Found these in this thread.
I think the best (and safest) thing would be to flash a custom kernel, such as Siyah through ODIN, instead og a Stock kernel with root.
And now here's how to avoid 4.0.4 hardbrick :
-DO NOT flash any stock 4.0.4 firmware
-If on 4.0.4 stock firmware, keep away from stock kernel (ex: use siyah kernel or latest speedmod)
-Use "eMMC Brickbug Check" app to verify whether you have an insane ship or not
-Backup your apps (titanium backup) and backup all (cwm) and copy all data from internal sdcard
-DO NOT wipe any partition or data
-Flash any official 4.0.3 stock firmware in download mode via odin (do not use mobile odin)
-Do not get tempted again by any unsafe leaked or official firmware !!!

This is the guide I've been re-reading and I know I'm supposed to find the replacement Kernel LPT, but I can't seem to find it. Am I going about this completely the wrong way or am I missing some reading.

All is well bro.
Very easy too.
Visit this THREAD, go through it (2 pages), I just solved the same issue for the OP
Hi all, sorry for the delayed response but I haven't been well. I tried to follow the tactics described but they all seem to indicate to flash a kernel with root in it such as Siyah and then I can flash from there. But, to do that I need to enter CWM mode and I can't do that as I don't have it as my phone's not rooted or am I missing something again. Is there a way of adding CWM to your phone before root? Or is there a way of flashing the Kernel with Odin.
Because of my meds and the fact I am suffering from the emmc brick bug, I really need a complete idiots step by step guide to getting round this as using stock Android is driving me mad.
Please and thank you
Yes there is.As mentioned earlier just get a siyah kernel(s2-v.4.1.5) and flash using Odin.
Then you should be rooted with cwm and kernel not affected with brickbug.

Hi, theunderling, thanks for the response and sorry if this is what you have said, like I said, lot of pain meds and this just isn't sinking in properly, flashing and changing everything on my phone used to be as easy as pie to me, these days brain fog doesn't help and I feel entirely stupid.
So I flash the Siyah Kernel with ODIN, do I use the S2-v.4.1.5 from the link in your signature? And what options do I choose in ODIN, I would previously choose PDA when flashing ROMs but, I'm guessing I use the Bootloader option? And as normal I don't change any of the options just leaving "auto reboot" and "F.reset time" ticked. And then once this is done I should be free to open CWM as normal and flash any ROM I choose?
Just to double check I am running the following at present
Android Version 4.04
Baseband I9100XXLQ6
Kernel Version 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023 [email protected]#3
Build Number IMM76D.XWLPT
I thank you for your time and putting up with what is undoubtedly a repeated question but, I again repeat the pain meds. I can't wait until they fix my back and I can get off these bloody things
Thanks
Like he said flash siyah in odin as pda nothing else...put phone in download mode...hook up...com goes yellow....press start...10 seconds later pass and phone reboots...yay rooted...maybe wait till your off your meds bud.

Thanks man, that's clearer still, I am grateful for the extreme level of n00bish help Frustrating I know, I've helped people in the past where the answer is as clear as day yet people just don't seem to get it, and I hate the fact that I am having to behave that way myself. I appreciate the sentiment about the meds bud I really do. Unfortunately, I am on them because of a spinal disability I will be living with for the rest of my life, a condition that has cost me my wife, my house, my highly successful professional career in IT Business management and my early retirement as a successful semi-pro MMA fighter with a record of 31 wins & 1 loss So I'd love to be off them but, never will. Hence the desperate need to get my phone back working as I want it too, not how Samsung want it.
Sorry had to edit this to add, I'm not having a passive aggressive attack at you for your comment, I just wanted you to know why it was I appear to be so brainless to such a simple task and that I need it explaining because it won't change for me. Apologies if it comes across as that I didn't meant it to.
Much appreciated help from you and everyone else. thanks

There's also a way too root with just cwm. I done it this way and you won't get yellow triangle
Cwm zip .on external card. ROM you will flash also on external card
And gapps. Read back a few pages its been covered if not just ask happy to help
galaxys2 dori7.22 rootbox nightly pitch perfect
Theres no problem pal,its just you have to be extra careful with you being on the firmware that has the brickbug.
You can root using recovery/cwm,then change to a safe kernel using cwm or you can do all that in one operation using Odin.
As soon as you flash that kernel, you should backup your efs folder using hcktool, and make a nand backup using cwm.
There are a couple of tutorials you can have a quick look at.

Vol down,home and power buttons.

Naturally I did that, the phone showed up as connected in COM4 on ODIN, but it showed up as Zimage started and then nothing happened at all for about 5 minutes I had to disconnect and restart the phone by removing the battery
Despite numerous attempts at following the instructions using ODIN, nothing happens it shows up as zimage and then sits there doing nothing. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Go back to the start....can you get into stock recovery mode.
If so,just flash the 2 items in the ics root in my sig.

We'll go simple. You need to download the siyah kernel (odin version). What you get is a .tar file. Don't extract it, just keep it on the desktop.
Next, turn your phone completely off. Press home button + volume down + power button simultaneously. There will be a warning screen, press volume up to continue. Now you're in download mode.
Connect your phone to PC. Odin should detect your phone (a white box turns yellow). Make sure KIES is not running on your PC.
In Odin, only f.reset and autoreboot (or something similar, don't remember exactly) should be ticked, nothing else.
Click the PDA button, browse to the .tar siyah file and flash it.
I'm sorry if I made it really simple, might make you think I'm stupid trying to explain all that, but I don't think I've missed anything.
Keep us updated

Here mate, download this http://db.tt/MxD7F6xg. Flash it through stock recovery. Then flash siyah/dorimanX kernel through the temporary CWM. Reboot then done
Edit: Oh BTW it's touch recovery.

Spiralzz I understand why you put it in such simple terms but, that's exactly what I was doing, help appreciated though
boy racer adding your download allowed me to access the CWM recovery but when I try to flash the Siyah kernel I'm getting a signature verification failure? So close yet so far, bloody EMMC bug, flashing used to be easy

Is there not an option to toggle verification or something? I can't remember. I would check but I'm tethering to my PS3 playing black ops 2
Edit: just checked, there isn't have you tried flashing dorimanX kernel instead? Or any other? Worked for me 1st time when I 1st got my S2.

if your refering to the "all in one stock root rom" thread i've checked that already and all the att links are dead.
Just plug it into KIES and restore to stock, root then install your custom rom.

you did not list your carrier or device in your post, but there is a whole list of options here. I have myself scanned through list and yes am aware many of links are dead, yet this was the 2nd one I checked.
if this is for your device and what you are looking for then you are ready to go.
here is the thread containing the file, first link is up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261598
if not, check the last post in this thread. you will find a link provided from "developweb", see if that is what you are looking for, be sure to hit his thanks button. I am not going to send one of my files, again simply, because you have not told anyone device or carrier. you have already flashed wrong file once and I don't know how, but I don't want to be responsible for anyone bricking their device.
you have been a member long enough to know what information folks need and long enough to know to read. if you can provide this information, then maybe I can help you further if needed.
good luck and keep us posted

Got you. Well there's a bunch of modems here but you will have to decide your own course. I can't offer any advice on them. Good luck!
