The Custom ROM development for Xperia P is very disappointing. - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Like the title said. What do u think? Plus, Sony hasn't released ICS for this device as well. It's already late. I'm very disappointed that I bought Sony. I would be on official ICS or on JB custom Rom already if I bought Samsung. I'm always a fan of Sony, but now it lets me down to hell.

I think they will skip ics for u..like they did for 2011 Xperia with froyo and directly updated to GB..and the result was very stable 2.3.4 roms on 2011 line..so it's because they announced P and U later after S and they had time to develop it on S
Keep on waiting..im always a sony fan too and remember sony arc which was made at the same time of the sgs got the 4.0.4 officially when sgs had 2.3.6 and they stopped developing on

ICS should be there in 2 weeks for xperia P
Patience !
However I would say that you can be happy with gingerbread since it's twice faster than what your phone will be when it will get ICS.
That's what happened with xperia S. Very fast on GB and since ICS it's really slugish and when I had 500Mb of available RAM after boot, I know have 200Mb free !

ICS will be coming in more or less 2 weeks ( within august, thats what they officially said.)
I am quite sure that the FXP team will release a stable CM9 soon after ICS is released and if not, you will get JB for sure but it will take time..

Slow or fast, I always prefer the latest version. There are always new features. If everyone thinks like you, google doesn't need to release newer version at all. We never satisfy with what we have, that's how human always progress toward new invention and innovation..

Thats why I bought the Xperia S, because development is better. Samsung sucks though, buy a Nexus if you want android updates, but you still have to deal with Samsung crappy build quality and screens.

Why no custom ROM's for xperia S ?

I was going to buy an Xperia S, but as i opened the development thread, i was shocked to see that there were only 3-4 custom Roms and only 2 were the ones which get constantly updated...?
SXS is sony flagship device, it should have got so many custom Roms till date, but it isn't really the case..
Can anyone explain why ?

[RUMORS] Xperia S getting Jellybean soon?

From what I understood by translating this with Google, we'll get Jellybean soon.
http://vnsony.com/threads/2486/
They say that the guy who told them very accurate info about new Sony smartphones(Yuga and Odin) also gave them info that there will be a Jelly Bean update in two weeks.
Well, your thoughts, gentlemen!
I think Xperia S will get support for updates up to Key Lime Pie, so it wasn't something to worry about.
Late October/early November seems most likely for JB on fujis and blues, late November for montblancs.
fujis= xperia s and arco hd
blues= xperia t tx v etc.
montblanc= xperia p u sola
that right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31991116&postcount=75
this is exciting! it is strange though that sony have kept so quiet on this release, as normally they tend to mention an update and then it comes a few weeks later? is there a reason why they haven't confirmed yet either that said handsets will be updated?
thanks

Yeah, pretty much. Those are board names: fuji - S3 based (S, Acro HD, Acro S, NX, etc), montblanc - U8500 based (P, U, Sola, Go, etc), blue - S4 based (T, TX, TL, V, not J). Expect an announcement soon.

Well I don't know about timing - on Android, Sony hasn't suddenly surprised users with version upgrades like that before, they tend to announce it in advance, and more recently, closer to the launch date as seen with the 2012 phones with ICS. This would be the tightest schedule yet, if they do announce it soon.
Previously, I wouldn't have minded much about Jelly Bean, but I was browsing a 2010 Sony Ericsson phone on 2.1 and it is MUCH faster than my 2012 Sony phone on ICS - so the aim of Jelly Bean to deliver performance and experience improvements of ICS is welcome in my book ... :good:
It's clearly going to happen. Sony have big plans to increase market share this year and promptness of updates is key to getting a god reputation. and Samsung has already got their jellybean updates rolling.....

Actually it's not so bad We have 2011 xperia phones... Now it's 2012, near 2013 In 2013 i'm planing to buy Xperia V or if it happens Xperia Nexus
That's a shame, FXP is just focusing on 2012 devices, but 2012 devices still get official updates from sony, sony even ported aosp to xperia S so why worring about them?.
We need a developer like nAa, who managed to port a fully working cm7 and cm9 to the x10mini/pro and x8, he is now working on cm10 (minicm10), which runs jb almost as smooth as gingerbread in first generation devices!
We need you nAa!!

Although service centres r irritating ones nd ppl der r dumb, bt xperia phones have caliber of dng everything a smartphone can do, example take galaxy s2 it has much better processor then neo v but its stl on ics that also 4.0.3. I guess it was a high end phone. samsung updates only its new flagships asap by d tym u buy note 2 , note 3 will b in market or s4.. Then ur note 2 will stay on jb no longer updates if dey come they ll come rarely. Nd ace plus same processor like neo v and samsung promises jb for it. I wonder hw it ll support jb..

Okk...if you guys say so...i will think about it.
Actually the thing is...updates to a newer android version don't matter if your hardware can't handle it good...what matters is the current firmware should be so refined to exploit the phone's resources at its best...what's the point of adding new features when the basic functionality is suffering.
In our case...our device lacks ram and is single cored...let's put aside the core thing...it simply struggles for ram in ICS and JB. And whatever hardwork teams like cyanogenmod may put into it...they can't provide full functionality that OEM provides...so in my opinion...maintainance updates are much significant...as they bring to you a better phone...not just a new interface with crippled functionality.
You may add various tweaks and improve the firmware to your liking...but the overall experience will not be as the OEM intended to be.
The precis is...even if a manufacturer doesn't update to the latest android version...it provides maintainance updates which are crucial...and samsung does it...and besides the updates...its phones are already loaded with functionality...and a phone with quad-core cpu and 2gb ram is more than sufficient unless one intends to carry a PC in his pocket...which is always thethered to the power outlet.
And the complains about exynos...they have been acknowledged by samsung.
And those who say Sony has ditched 2011 devices...sony has already supported us for long to the extent our devices can handle...it gave us ICS despite the limited resources our device has. And being a global company...it too has to survive. It has to concentrate on the competition. Accusing it of abandoning us is totally unfair. There was no lifetime commitment sony had signed with you...you bought the device and sony supported it as long as the device needed it.
Dont think of me as an advocate for sony...i am simply pointing to the fact that whatever firmware is on the phone...it should be perfect in utilizing phone's resources...not a burden on the phone's head.
Pheeewwwww..........sorry...too long a debate.
These are only my views...those who differ in opinion...simply ignore.

Thanks mate...i have already read your thread...and before that i have tried swap on system of about 150mb...multitasking becomes awsome but whatever media you use for swap...be it SDcard/nand...its life degrades eventually.
And i am not that well off to replace my card every 4months...and not to mention the terrible performance hit when the trade over takes place.
Thats why zram is better.
And i think any ram size below 1gb is inadequate for android 4+.

Info about buying sola.

I'm thinking about buying xperia sola. I come from xperia 2011 community where 100's of ROM's are available. I want to know the dev support on this device. also info about jelly bean ( IS it available? if not, then any future possibilities?)
Jelly will not be officially available.
It might be ported once it gets released for Xperia P.

No. It's not enough, firstly it will fly, but after installing a bunch of apps it will start lagging bla bla bla, so go ahead and buy 1gb ram phone

i have used xperia sola for 5 moths (UL bootloader and root), imo this device is handle daily job (sms, call, whatsapp, etc) not so good. lag after you install too many program especially when someone call (need 2-3 seconds for the answer display appear), but overall (gaming, music, browsing) is good. and FYI 512 MB ram only accessible around 384 MB by the device, so don't expect it too much
If u don't care about having the latest software then its worth the buy. Because anything beyond 4.1 is uncertain.

FXP release cm9.1 rom at weekly pace, quite good dev support
But, I have lost faith in sony mobile cause my sola has random hang/reboot issue.
Still I'm not sure about the reason, maybe hadware/RAM/NAND, maybe carrier/SIM, maybe software.
It's a pretty good looking, and UI well designed, but I plan to buy a Lumia to replace it.
Just FYI.
The phone is nice.. not as bad as the above repliers. I used stock rom, eXperience v2, CM 9 based, and now Project GX v2.1. IMO The last one really stood out. I have installed many apps inlcluding Currents, Fb, Fb mssger, TOI, Pulse, Flipboard and half of them stay on my Homescreen. Still no lag. Much better roms will come out.
Otherwise there is always the HTC Desire X.
the incoming call will lag when you are playing games or surfing internet.
I faced this problem.
And i got a missed call cause the answer the call didn't show up and my phone ringing but i can't do anything... :/
others ok,this phone not bad.

My Sola runs daily tasks quite well. I even play heavy games like NFS MW and GTA VC.
First thing, this stock ROM is ****. The lag in Call and messaging app is because they are inefficient and bulky.
Use other ROMs, eXDialer, Junk cleaner script, and everything's going good.
I usually get 100 mb free Ram.
Ps. One thing. I always keep FB frozen when not using. In titanium backup
