Hi,
I have created a new app for the Xperia U, that will give you "disco lights" in the illumination bar.
Now also works for Xperia P.
So far it only has a few modes. It does both plain blinks and also blinks that are driven by the music you play.
Pro version has more colors and can run in the background.
It only works on Xperia U or Xperia P, and it also requires ROOT to get individual access to the LEDs.
On anything but a rooted XU or rooted XP i'm sure it will do absolutely nothing...
It's called U-Disco and you can find it at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rundgong.udisco
Pro version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rundgong.udiscopro
Try it out and let me know what you think.
If you have suggestions for fun blink patterns, let me know and I'll try to include it in upcoming releases.
Hi,
I have tested the application and what I think is great! But I wish that the lights are activated only when you make a pressure on the touchscreen buttons. Is what you know to do that?
Loved the crazy discos...
Great idea, and nicely implemented. :thumbup:
Possible to add an option to turn off the LED?

The LEDs should go off when you change the selection on either drop down list.
Sometimes you may need to toggle audio source on and off before it really goes off
It's cool. Haha, I feel like little child playing with his torches.

But why the LEDs are back to normal if i am back to home screen by pressing back button its nt permanent .
But the left led is stable ..dont do anything
Btw, Made a Quick Review http://youtu.be/6Tn-tZPzAxE
Good job, thanks!
Too bad Android closes it when I play a memory intensive game, such as Dead Trigger... It'd be cool to have the light effects while shooting
Can you do a root version and make it stay in the memory of the phone?
Could you make it turn of when the screen does and turn on when the screen does cause that'd be perfect

The default behavior for an app is to shut down when you press the back button. If you want to keep it running in the background you can press the home button instead.

I don't know how it works with high prio processes on android, but I can look into it.
I also don't really know how good android is at deciding when to kill apps.
It is supposed to only kill apps when other apps need the memory, but I guess it is possible that it kills apps earlier than it really needs to.
Anyone know how good this works?
I don't want to change the app so it makes the rest of the system run poorly by holding on to memory that really should have been released.

Yes, but if the android framework is doing a good job it means your game really need the ram, so if my app stays active the game may not work so well any more.

cool app reminds me of my old SE W830 that has this orange walkman button that also lights up according to the beat of the music. is it possible for you to include another color?
Does anyone know how to use the front key lights as notification led's on our L9 since we don't have one? I found out how to use the camera flash as one but that's the back of the phone and i don't like facing the phone screen face down on anything in fear of scratching the screen.
If there is not a method already around somewhere to do this, how hard would it be to get this working? I think it would be a great asset to our L9s!

How does it behave for you? On my L9 nothing changed at all once installed and enabled :/ What settings did you choose? Do they flash after the screen turns off for awhile after the notification, and stay flashing until they are read??

I just chose the default settings, and it flashes the front key lights till the message is read. Maybe cause I'm using P760 V10h on my P765.
The app is a battery drainer since it wakes the cpu up each time the buttons light up.
Im hoping they can program this feature into future roms for the L9 where it just causes the LED's to blink until the screen is turned back up when a notification is received. Not sure if its possible to program the blinking to run without waking the cpu?
That was another concern of mine, but if it was integrated into the rom in such a way to not wake the cpu then battery life would not be affected as much.
I always wondered how to change the colors of the led for different notifications but after seeing in the menu that it would only let me turn them on or off i thought i was going to have to use an app to control it. Well I just stumbled across this and thought I would share just in case someone else didnt know this. If you edit a contact it gives you the option of changing the color of the LED for that persons notifications. Hope this helps.

Yes, i saw that, and is is useful. I want to find a way to customize the led color on an app by app basis.
Is there a way to get the light to work for third party apps like go SMS?

Great it works, i found out for hangout the first blink of led is the stock colour and then goes to the desired colour from lightflow. Is that unavoidable behavior? Is there a chance of turning of LED from lg setting and letting light flow do all the work? It seems to me that will turn off led entirely. Thanks Again

Hey guys, I just saw today on a friend who got an LG phone which is L5 and when he receives sms or get a missed call his button is blinking in many different colours. Also, when he reboot the phone that LED is entertaining the holder which is pretty nice . My question is if we got something like this ? If yes with what app and if no which was the reason of breaking this feature off on a better phone than this one ? I left a link below to understand better what I mean.

LE: I found that is the 2nd generation and they got button LED allerts. Perhaps is auto solved.
Wait, the l5 2 has button LED notifications and the l9 doesn't? That sucks, it looks so neat. Its a shame about its 512 mb of ram though.
well read the later edit. the l9 2 will have too that home button led notification.

L9 II dont have a physical home button , so maybe it will be at some other location i Guess ( If at all its there )
It really sucks that LG is getting rid of the physical home button on their newer devices. I find it very useful, there's no accidental home button presses and you can use it to wake up your phone. Not to mention if they put the notification LED there it would look sweet.
I find that using the LG Nofications app works well enough, you can use the backlights of the soft keys as notification lights, they light up and slowly flash when you receive a message, gmail or miss a call. You can also use those key lights for charge status and there is an option to enable other apps to use the lights too e.g. Facebook

Yeah, I tested it too but that home button LED is much much prettier and u must admit that and is very different when u use an app which wake up ur phone every "x" seconds for the notification alert and when that LED is hardware based on.
installed lg touch led but no led for home button...
Guys, our phone does not have a notification led on the home button. No app or rom will make the home button light up like that because we do not have the hardware for it.
Is there a way to turn the hardware buttons into the notification light instead of the Power button led? I have a case that covers the power button and miss the notification blink that I had on the Atrix HD. Thanks in advance.
There's an older app for that on the play store. Called LG notification lights or something like that. Doesn't officially support OG, but might be worth a try. I don't recall any talk of the feature... Probably because we have a notification light. It was popular on the i777 though.

Thanks. I'll have to check that out. The only reason I want it is because of the case I have. :good:
I have confirmed that LG Touch LED Notifications by Martin Börjesson works on my E970 with KitKat AOSP 4.4.2. I have the Diztronic TPU case that covers the notification light. When I get a notification it will vibrate first (can be adjusted), then light the capacitive buttons. Perfect!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.martinborjesson.o2xtouchlednotifications
I used to have a Samsung Moment that did not have a dedicated notification light, the Devs used to do kernel edits that allowed for the BLN app by Neldar to work.
Also, just in case there is anyone like me who keeps their phone on vibrate but still wants notification lights for Gmail without the vibrate notification, do the following within the Gmail app:
Press hardware menu button or three squares menu button in top right of Gmail app to access Settings;
Select your connected Gmail account;
Leave Notifications box checked, press Inbox sound & vibrate;
Press Sound, select Silent;
Make sure Vibrate is unchecked.
What I would love to see is the ability to assign up to three types of notifications to the three capacitive buttons that we have.
Example:
Missed call = Back button
SMS message = Home button
Gmail message = Menu button
Missed call + SMS + Gmail = All three buttons lit. Hmm... maybe I will email this suggestion to the Developer of Trigger - location profiles to see if they could add this sort of functionality to their already awesome app.
Does anyone know if the E970 has one LED light to illuminate all three capacitive buttons, or are they three separate LEDs? Edit: Boo! Only has two... http://imgur.com/a/ydoJb
I've been using an app called ButtonLED I found on XDA since ICS days and still works with KitKat roms. The GUI is pretty basic and not the prettiest but the app is functional. When you turn the logs on, it will track what app or keywords appear in the status bar. You can then go in and add that app or keyword to be excluded and not trigger the notification. I'm going to check out the LG app and see if that performs better (battery drain, etc). Here's the link for the info on ButtonLED... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/buttonled-turns-your-hardware-buttons-into-a-notification-led/ Even though the app is not being updated, I've been running 1.6 with no issues.

didn't work on mine unfortunately. I'd tried it a couple of weeks ago while looking for solutions on this issue (along with many other apps). I'm on SnowJB. So far the only one that has worked is using Xposed+GravityBox... the problem with that one is that it seems to link the side notification LED red light to the front softkeys LEDs, so when the phone is charging and the red LED is flashing on/off the front LEDs flash as well. This bothers me because once I go to sleep and charge the phone the white front LEDs do seem very bright... plus I don't like the fact of having them flashing every night for 8 hours straight, gives me the impression that it'll cause them to get damaged much sooner than normal since they weren't really desinged to flash like that. There is an option on GravityBox that says DISABLE LED FLASHING WHILE CHARGING... which I thought could've helped to prevent that charging flashing but at least in my case that option did nothing,
It would be awesome if someone could come up with a mod for this. Even better if someone knew what file could be edited through root browser to make the red light flash faster on notifications.

didn't work either... which version did you install? (I saw there were several on the dropbox download link).
The problem I have with these apps is that they interrupt the normal function of the softkey lights... for example I like to have these lights always ON while my screen is ON as well, I don't like them to time out... and there is an option withing stock Android to set them up like that.... but when I use an app to use the LEDS for notifications for some reason it disables the stock preset and shutts them off entirely while the screen is on... I kinda gave up on this. I'd just be so happy if I could modify the frequency of the RED LED on the power button on notifications.

I use the same setup with cap keys always on. That's the downside all apps/mods have regarding the keys getting disabled when the screen is turned on after a notification. Simply turn the screen off and back on to reset the keys and they will turn back on/reset. I'm using 1.6.
