Are normal galaxy S2 roms compatible with the NFC version?
I wont mind losing the nfc feature.
You can use any I9100 rom on the I9100p you just lose NFC

Actually, sorry to correct you; but if he doesn't mind losing NFC, then yes, i9100 ROMs will work on his i9100P.
should be compatible, but you may loose the NFC feature

Can anyone with an NFC enabled SGS II pm me please. I have an app (NFC Task Launcher) that I would love for someone to test on this phone, but I know no one who has one
There is a free version you can test with ( and use if you want). Ideally you need a few NFC tags to test with. See the thread in the Nexus S forum or on the market for a demo video and more info.
Thanks.

The NFC S2 hasn't been released to any markets to my knowledge. I also haven't seen any users around here who have one.

I have a NFC GS2. Will try it, but it seems that the NFC framework isn't handled correctly until Android 2.3.7 (Nexus S), and most AOSP & custom are either NFC free, or 2.3.5.
Edit : Yeah, i believe your app is supposed to pop up over a tag, and the only app "allowed" to read tags is the NXP custom app my operator (Orange France) made.
It may be that P2P NFC isn't yet enabled : The new Maps 5.1.1 NFC doesn't work either, neither do "File expert" (one of the only NFC software)
can some1 tell me that how to know our device have NFC on our sgs II?

Then no, you don't have an NFC enabled version. It lacks the hardware NFC chip.
Model GT-I9100P is the version of the I9100 that DOES have NFC.

No, becuase cutoms roms do not have support for NFC.
You will need to wait or search other forums for custom roms with NFC support as most SII on this forum do have NFC available yet.
OP You could of course be a guinea pig and test for us .

I do not think it is wise to flash software to an SGH-I727 which is made for i9300 hardware. It's different hardware, different drivers, etc.

No mate.
Even though both models look the same, they are still different phones.
Please do not try to flash the I9300 rom on to the I9305 or your risk hard bricking your device.

If I am right, the i9100 is the one you have and the most popular I guess, with its features; i9100p model is the same as yours but has NFC in the battery (near field communication) so if you flash a rom which is built for i9100 model and you have the i9100p you will lose the nfc feature (that you can take back with nfc enabler at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822447 ); the i9100g instead, has a different cpu compared to the other two models, and roms too are different (infact there is a specific place in the forum for threads which are about this model).
So, i9100 and i9100p are similar, except for the nfc function of the P version while they are both different from i9100g because of the cpu.
Roms for i9100 works for i9100p (but you will lose nfc function) and don't work on i9100G. Roms for i9100G don't work on the other two models, i guess.
Forgive my english
And how about I9100M?

I have just read on Wikipedia (can't link because of the low number of posts..) and BTW.. There are a looooooot of variants of i9100 international model!!
Anyway..
It seems that variants exist because of the country or the carrier (except for i9100p and i9100g as I have wrote it before); i9100m is for Bell's Samsung Galaxy S2 models from Canada and Wikipedia "say": "Model GT-I9100M Samsung Galaxy S II is identical to the international version except that its model number is I9100M". So, as you can read on the website, it's called M only to distinguish it because it's Canadian and from Bell carrier.
I hope it is right
As I said.....google had the answer to this Q, why making a thread about it?

You are right Gastonw, you just have to look for it in Google.. But if someone ask, i'll answer
Too many in Italy don't know the difference between varations of this model (9100/g/p) and don't know that by flashing a rom on their 9100p they will lose the nfc function that they can take back..
So.. Just to share knowledge
