Root SGS2 I9100XXLQ6 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have upgraded my SGS2 to I9100XXLQ6 . Request you to please let me know how can i root it.

Try here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

What I'd recommend is to install latest siyah kernel since you're on a ROM with the "dangerous" kernel. You'll be rooted with siyah, and learn a lot about tweaking the kernel to optimize almost everything including battery life and performance.

Can you please provide the link to download Siyah ROM, and also how to root it.

http://gokhanmoral.com/ download the Odin flashable latest kernel for S2, boot your phone into download mode, and flash the downloaded kernel. You'll be rooted automatically.
Edit: Do you know how to use Odin and flash using it? Just assuming you're a newbie at this because of your post count, but I may be wrong

[Q] What do I require before ' Flashing a ROM ' ?

Question as thread title.
I am a noob to all this rooting flashing, rom, odin stuff.
I've read about it as much as possible,
But when i actually head to the dev section, all i see is 2.3.4 or 2.3.5
But im living in singapore, and so far, i'm only living with 2.3.3
So the question is, if for example i see, Litening Rom 6.1,
and i see 2.3.4, does that mean i cant 'Flash' it into my phone?
Do i need 2.3.4 before flashing it?
Help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Nope, you can flash any Rom you like.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
so when it says 2.3.4 , if i flash it, I'll get the features of 2.3.4?

yes that is correct
the other thing I see is that the roms are based on XXKH3 etc etc, but I'm on something like DXKI2, what do I have to do?

Follow Chainfire's instructions exactly and you'll be fine. Any further questions, best to direct them to his forum.
After the matching CF-root kernel is flashed, you will have superuser and his custom recovery installed, then can then flash any custom rom placed on your sdcard via cwm recovery
Edit: also good links to info beaten to out by JJ,..... Again

you will find the guide on how to install a rom, in the thread of the rom you want to flash.
at the beginning of the original development right at the top there are guides on how to root and how to flash..
if you want any help just give me a message and what i know i will advice you
use this link first though

EDIT: looks like JJE beat me to it
Hey guys, thanks for all the info. So basically what i gotta do first is to use CF-root to first root my phone?
Then i use cwm to do a backup, followed by flashing any rom with odin?
Yes but its follow the instructions for the relevant rom not flash any rom through Odin . Most custom roms are CWM flashes .

CF-rooting my phone, right now my kernel version says : DXKI2
so if i download the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip
would this be correct?
and i see that this file is CF-Root v4.2, SU 3.0, "insecure"
meaning is has superuser , but what does insecure mean?
should i download a secure one?
sorry for being a lil' troublesome..
Make sure you backup your efs folder

sorry if this has been asked before, i searched but didnt find anything and just want to be sure

Use odin to flash the kernal or if your phone is rooted cwm.
You can find odin in intratec official firmware thread inthe developmemt section

Rooting S2

Hi! I attempted to root my S2 via a method I found here whereby I flash an insecure kernel then root using S2 root. I followed the guide to the T and still my phone is only ''partially rooted'' according to rootchecker and no root apps could be granted su access.
I am running ICS 4.0.3, Baseband Version XXLPS.
What should I do next or should I accept defeat and leave this phone unrooted? What could I have done wrong?
Thanks in advance for reading.

flash the latest siyah kernel v3.4.1 either from ur recovery (use siyah .zip file) or thro Odin ( use siyah .tar file) and then see
Thanks Sun!
I have downloaded the Tar file. I assume what I do now is flash it onto my phone and retry S2 Root again?

If you flash Siyah you will be already rooted.
Ah, then perfect. Thank you!

Either I am an uber noob or there is something wrong!
I downloaded the Siyah 3.4.1.tar kernel from gokhanmoral and flashed via odin and the phone sat at the boot screen with the little yellow triangle on it. I left the phone on and running like that for 10minutes.
I flashed my insecure kernel back on from last time (the one I used when trying to root using s2root) and it is fine again.
Anywho I am back to square one! -.-

ok buddy follow this steps to reroot ur phone in a proper manner.
1) Dwnld the official ICS firmware(4.0.3) and flash thro odin
link Here
2) after that please dwnld the Matching Cf- root kernel and flash thro' ODIN
link Here
ur phone will be rooted properly and should wrk fine
ps- read the OP of both the threads carefully and follow the instructions over there to root ur phone successfully
If you only need proper root, no custom or insecure kernels and no yellow triangle, look at the guide in my signature. Worth the try

First off heres my phones specs

4.0.3
Baseband version

I've rooted my phone using rachmat3 method and thats how far i've got because only just got phone as a gift and im scared to flash a new rom incase i brick my phone.
Is it safe to use the cwm.zip to flash a rom that i used from rachmat3 root method or do i need a updated version of cwm?
Can someone recommend a fully working paranoid android rom that i can use for daily use?
Which kernel would be best to use with paranoid android rom?
Should i flash a kernel before i flash a rom?
If i install paranoid android rom would i then have a permanant cwm on my device or would i still need to use my temporery cwm.zip?
What is the chances of me bricking my phone?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Flash what ever rom u want till its for GT-I9100
No need to worry
Just read the specific rom instructions carefully
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yes mate now u can flash any Rom ....Just read the instruction before flashing
I would advise you to flash a safe kernel first before doing any wipe and flashing any roms. Siyah is a safe bet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
1. Download ROM Manager and you'll be able to flash any ROMs you wish using that.
2. All the PA versions are working fine, so just browse through and choose for yourself.
3. Asking questions like that is against forum rules because they often lead to arguments. The best advice is just to download and flash different kernels and stick with which ever one you're happy with.
4. It really doesn't matter in which order you flash them. The result is still the same. I personally always flash the ROM first, but it doesn't make a difference.
5. If you use ROM Manager, as mentioned previously, even if you have to do a full wipe when flashing a different ROM, it doesn't matter because you can simply download it again anyway. Or just save it to your SD card.
6. The changes if bricking your phone are higher if you're worried about it. Just be sure to read all instructions given about installation and follow them perfectly and you'll be fine.
If after reading about flashing ROMs you are still worried, then you're better off waiting for a bit until you've done more research into what exactly is needed.
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!
Thanks for your replys.
just follow the steps mentioned and follow some video (like on youtube) and it'll be easy!

I don't recommend using ROM Manager since it can brick the phone.
Why don't flash custom kernel and use real CWMR?

Most ROM zips include kernels, so if somebody wants to stay with the same kernel, then it's necessary to flash custom kernel again.

Ok so i've downloaded paranoid android and gapps ive nandroid backed up i've efs backed up all thats left to do is flash pa lol is it defently safe using rachmet3 temp cwm.zip or should i download a new temp cwm or use permanent cwm through flashing siyah kernal. Just coz i have no pc to revive a bricked phone and i wont beable to check online for solutions as my phone will be bricked.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
You will need a pc if for example you flash a kernel and somethings not right. You cant get cwm, only download mode.
That happened to me when I flashed a siyah kernel.Phone was stuck and I couldnt boot into cwm.Only way to fix was boot to download mode and use odin/pc.

And will I flash it just from my phone's recovery mode,if not tell me how step by step please and thanks.
As per the first page of this thread, get a stock rom from Samfirmware & flash it with Odin (download mode); Guides. Or, if you search the General section (or do a Google search with XDA appended to your search terms; I do not have a link so don't ask) there is a thread in there somewhere with CWM flashable stock roms. But if you want to get the phone back to a similar state to when you bought it, do an Odin flash.
Nobody's going to regurgitate step by step instructions especially for you given it's been done thousands of times before in other threads. As a wise man on here says in his signature 'n00b OK, lazy n00b not OK'.
