Full Sail is an accredited university to my knowledge. Don't do it just for Dev work though since you don't really get paid for that...Maybe you can make the next angry birds though.

I was thinking the same thing about going. I think once this semester is up I'm going to switch schools....again
This will be my third time I just don't go and switch schools every semester lol
We can be classmates :highfive: lol
It's a for profit university, meaning it's a ripoff.
Granted devs do not get paid but out in Hollywood there alot of jobs looking for devs 0.o and ppl are amazed i can root my phone lol ppl call me to root stuff so i figured if i gey the dev part down i could make roms specific to the person's need/want and a good experience in life maybe
I know someone who went there. It's expensive.

Isn't this every school in the world?
I mean why does harvard charge almost $5,000 per class.. Are they really teaching better than say UNCC which is $500 per class..

No. Regular universities get the best educators they can afford (and Harvard being one of the richest schools in the world can afford some of the best ones, hence their higher tuition prices.)
For profit schools' first priority is turning out profit.
just to give you an idea, I am going to school for computer programming at my local community college. It is costing me $1700 per semester at that price over the 2 years that will be $10,200. My brother is going to a for profit college, Stevens henager, and will be paying around $82,000 for the same degree which is non transferable. Seems to me that it would be a no brainer. But what ever makes you happy I guess

I work for a for-profit school, and without going into detail:
1. Profit
2. Education
i graduated form there with a bachelor of science in computer animation. not a bad school. you will work your ass off. class are scheduled in 4 hour blocks 24 hours a day. class are one month long. you normal do two classes a month. you can not work. every thing you get you pay for the macbook and the ipad and nexus is incorporated in the amount you pay for school. last time i checked they do not have dorms.
you are responsible for your entire tuition after the first 6 classes. normal college is a cake walk compared to this school. but they do have some of the best teachers that you will find.
half my professors in the animation department were ex Disney lead animators
that is my experience going there in Orlando the online experience i have no idea
Why is the affiliate code "cheezburger" lol.

Haha, dude.. If you where a developer wouldn't you want done type of compensation for your efforts? If you want something that bad just party for it. We are lucky more of these guys do all of this for us without asking for anything in return. That said, 5$ for a rom is not that bad man.. Thats less than 1 meal at a fast food place.
Support android, support our phone and the developers who make it better and better daily. I don't know, just my take on the situation.

Just asking but how much are you paying for cell service? How much did you pay for the phone that came not fully functional? Seems if you want to OC to 1.3 and have it fully functional $5 is a small price to pay considering the amount of work involved.
I'm with the OP on this one. I think it's retarded to pay a subscription to be a "premium member". I don't know why people felt they needed to attack the OP....to each their own I guess.
I dont think they attacked the op, but most of this community knows that developers put alot of hardwork and effort into kernels, roms, ect. They have to put up with complaints, and people whinning. They have to offer assistance for issues, and asnwer thousands of questions. 5 dlls is a small fee to pay

I'm sorry if you feel we are attacking the OP. Do a quick search and you will see he has posted this same topic several times in the last 24hrs. Maybe that's part of the reason. In my opinion, if he want's that extra bump it would seem like a small price to pay. Phone is plenty fast enough for most users at 1.2 and that's free thanks to the contributions from users and the kindness and dedication of the developers here. Just my 2 pennies.

Yeah, at least for me, I have no problem paying developers for their hard work, but over the course of a year, 5 dollars a month becomes 60 dollars which, yeah, is really more that this is worth, especially if we want to spend it on other things as well (other software, etc). Just saying. 5 dollars once is one thing, 5 dollars / month is another.
I don't really understand what the problem is here, ask king for his code. It's the beauty of the GPL. It would be nice to get that code, Eugene's 2.2 kernel source and that nice I9000 filesystem mod all together in a neat little kernel for 2.2 on the vibrant.

the way things are going with htc, motorola, etc. locking the roms with acutal hardware - whats the point.
if we keep gabbing over 5 bucks what is going to keep devs willing to spend their time and brains, if people are going to cry about it once they release it.
pretty soon it won't be the developers or google we are yelling about it will be the handset manufactur and the provider.
What gets me is there are several people over at KKs board right now that have paid and have received no password for platinum access nor has anyone even tried to help. That isn't right.
If you head over to kks forum under the Vibrant development you'll see several people that have paid days ago with no password nor any help. Not cool.....

My thoughts are scattered. At one point i'd say a 1.2 oc is not going to pale much in comparison to a 1.3. My other thoughts would be a one time fee is more reasonable but also harder to swallow. Would you rather pay fifteen dollars straight up or monthly cost. I can't see anyone paying fifteen straight up.
Other thoughts. It's disappointing how much well get for free and are not satisfied. However I think donating is a good way to show appreciation I do not believe these things should be done with the intention of making money but if they at putting this much time into it and not getting enough donations to make it worth it to where they have to feel the need to charge. That's just too bad. In the end if you don't like the cost of a product don't buy it...

Yes let's not tinker with our electronics let's all run stock software on all our devices from smart-phones pc's sat receivers ect. Let's all pay out the ass every year for new hardware/software like I really need my phone oc to 1.5ghz I like being locked to a market and have to buy apps that the dev's of apps get taken for 20% by the market (apple, Google, ms) ect. I love my phone locked to the carrier that charges 10 cents a sms for 160 character e-mail. Let's just assume that a 1ghz smart-phone needs to be a quad core 4.0 with 2 gig internal ram. So I can play 3d games on a 4" screen while I work in open office on my power point pres. and sms and make a call at same time while my nice 27" computer is 20 feet away. I love having 10 old cell phones lying around love figuring out what the hell is this charger is for. For god sakes man please let me give US $$$ to the Asian countries instead.............. (they actually own everything anyway)
PC's get smaller Phones gets bigger and tablets are just baffling me. Cant's we just get an implant in our brains for all of it?
Sorry recieving an OTA update to my head have to lay down 8 hours so I have to end this rant....... Sure hope the gas.lib gets fixed this time it's been hell farting out of my ears........

Hey at least your getting your sleep OTA update. I'm still lost due to my bad GPS update and don't get me started about my frozen yogurt. I'm just trying to get a better taste in my mouth!
I don't see the point of OC-ing any more. We only have one dev doing kernels. Also because once we like 1.4 GHz stable, then those same ppl asking for that kernel is gonna be complaining about the battery being drained too quick. U can't please noobs...its impossible to keep noobs .just my .02 opinion
Hey man... if you happen to pop in here, I was just curious how your work was coming. I know you hate it when people flood your threads with ETA questions, but I was just curious how things were going since you are one of the only devs for this phone.
I know you've been working on an ICS port and maybe even a Sense 3.5 port, so I was just curious whatcha been up to.
Hope all is well and thanks again for your work!

For 16 years old, he has been busy with ics, bulletproof, was busy with quicksense, beastmod, bliss 3.5 sense, and stock 3.5 sense. Along with all these roms for us he was/is also creating all in one tools, kernel flasher utility along with helping other devs and helping us the community with all these questions. So I would say his work is coming along pretty well or great or awesome. I hope this answers your question bc I am sure he is too busy to step away for something someone else can help you with or you could help yourself with.

When I was in school we didn't even have computer classes. We had a computer lab that we had an opportunity to use once a week for about a half an hour. Ah the days of Oregon Trail on floppy.
Heck in some public schools the students are given mac books instead of actual books.

You know what... I'm actually fine with that as long as it doesn't get out of hand.
A lot of mods don't like it. I even made a thread specifically for that in the General section called Off Topic Posts. I was actually expecting it to be like 20 pages long by now. Odd that it isn't. But I think that I'm fairly lenient as long as the OP is fine with the content of the posts being placed within their threads. But the moment I see someone posting duplicates, post pumping, flaming or violating forum rules... that's when I start getting serious. We should know how to enjoy XDA but we also need to be mature about it at the same time. Sometimes we forget how to do that though.

If you are a college student you can sign up for studentrate.com - it is legit, I get tons of discounts, and it seems to work with any legit college.. but this deal isn't just for a discount for a phone, you can actually get 10% off(or more, my school gets a 15% discount) of your monthly bill, on top of free connection, extra discounts, etc.
When the amaze was still around $279 with contact I could get it at $129 with contact thru this deal..
Anyways, here is the link for anyone who is interested - although just calling the number in the image above with the promo number and a college you go to will get you the corporate discount and any other discounts..
Anyways, just information sharing in case there are any other broke ass college students who might benefit!(I'm a broke ass college student, no I don't work for tmobile, yes this is legit, and yes I was just hoping someone may benefit from this!)
And if a mod decides this is the wrong area feel free to move it - this seemed like a general thing to post, and I keep seeing people posting about the one s.. anyways, there it is.

I wouldn't recommend lying, but I went thru the process already and they didn't do anything to verify I am in college.. the only problem you'd run into is you can't sign a contract till you are 18!

This guys getting paid from most likely our fellow xda devs... i just flagged all his craigslist posting...
HTC One X, HTC One S, Samsung Galaxy, Droid, Motorolla, LG, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Boost, Cricket.
**Price may vary per device
well, i mean you never know...
but if i were to make a posting like that, i would make it say that i would do it for the users who want it but are afraid to mess up. and then i would basically state all the things that i know how to do and my forum profiles. and what i would charge would depend on how annoyingly painstaking the process is to get them the wanted feature.
in other posting this guy has said hes been hacking android since 4 yrs before g1 was released, i didnt know there was a Droid before the g1/dream

It's not about being lazy, it's about the conformity. We all go to the mechanic to fix our cars unless you know how to fix it, obviously. That's just how it works man. I do think that people not giving credit to the devs and all of the people that make this happen is really messed up though.
I don't believe in these kinds of businesses, here in Puerto Rico, there are lots of stores that dedicate themselves to hack iPhones or as they call it "unlock" it. And they charge like 30$!! It's ridiculous! I get disgusted every time I see one

but i dont believe in people stretching the truth so much like the snippet that was posted in the op. i mean if you want to help someone who's afraid to do it themselves, and they are willing to give you a couple bucks why not? now i wouldnt charge $30 for anything... the highest i'd go would be $10 lol

Nah..I'm sticking with my lazy comment. people don't bother to learn anything anymore. Doesn't take long to read how to root and flash.
the business isn't about giving credit, it's about charging money for something that's free

Some of you guys must not understand the difference between selling a service and selling a tangible product. You're paying for this guys time and knowledge of rooting android phones. Don't be such a stick in the mud

Agreed. I don't see the problem with it. Heck if I could make it into a side business I would. As others have said, they aren't selling the work that others have made, they're charging for their time, knowledge, gas (in a lot of cases they will travel to you) and convenience to root/hack/mod a phone that the owner doesn't want to do themselves. Yeah they can read some forums and do it themselves, but if they're willing to pay for it, it means they're either lazy and don't care or aren't technically inclined.
Some phones really aren't as simple as you would think to root and simply install wifi tether, for example. Downloading drivers, reading the root process for that device, downloading the scripts and tools, copying files to and from the phone, rebooting and the wait adds up into a lot of time and sometimes frustration. A lot of people don't want to deal with it, and if I'm going to learn all of that and sacrifice my time for someone I don't know, I want to be compensated.
I worked for Data Doctors (computer repair business) and while our prices (not set by me) were a little expensive, people gladly paid it because they didn't know how nor could they be bothered to fix the system themselves. That's business.
it took my around 5 hours the other day to figure out how to root, s-off and flash a custom rom on the Amaze. If I had already started my new job I would definitiv have paid the $15 to save me 5 hours of time.
Times are hard and knowledge is power.
If this guy knows what he's doing why not let him do it?
I think it's f*ed up that you flagged just because you're an XDA member who "supposedly" knows better.
He's trying to make some money off of his knowledge.
I mean, just because the information is here doesn't mean everyone who reads it understands it or could implement it.
Some people are not technology inclined.
YouTube has videos on how to do almost everything but just because you watch doesn't mean you'll be able to do it.
What was wrong with him trying to make money from the time and effort he invested into understanding the rooting and unlocking process of a phone?
Honestly..flagging him was a d**k move.
Took my girlfriends mytouch4gslide, he screwed up. Download ruu ....

For me, I want to know how to root and flash my own ROMs. Without knowing how to do things yourself you're stuck with whatever this guy loads on your phone, and isn't that the point of rooting, being able to load custom ROMs.
be proud of your work cause shearing is caring i learned a lot form xda i do get paid to fix my friends phones for them but when i get paid i save it just for XDA DEV who's work i used to do the job it's not stealing it's called Redistributing & dev can always spot there work from a mile away i used to burn movies and sell it on Craigslist i even posted adds on hacking any games on android with gamecih ^_^ wow those were the days i would ask $20 a pop lol 1 day i had over 15 calls lmfao like ice cube said TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY

This is a discussion about the Gs3's future sales after the announcement of the most popular phone on the market, there have already been numerous 'comparison' threads closed, lets not turn this into one of those.
After today's underwhelming announcement of the iPhone5, the people sitting on the fence about whether to switch to the Galaxy S3 or Note2 (or something else) have to make a decision.
I've been reading comments on Android fan sites, Apple fan sites, and 'Neutral' tech sites, and the general feeling I got from all of them is that the iPhone5 just hasn't done enough to persuade a lot of people to stick with them.
Now, obviously, this thing will sell like hotcakes for the people that don't know any different to make an educated decision / that actually like the iPhone anyway / have bought too heavily into the apple ecosystem to switch now.
But those that are in the know, like everyone who watched the olympics... the S3 was plastered all over the place ... and the people that were keeping up with the patent trials (anyone who reads the news) will now know that there are better offerings out there and most likely opt for a Gs3.
So, do you think we will see a significant boost from the already 20m phones already sold?
.
Samsung has done a wonderful job with the SGS3 and I'm sure the sales will keep up for some time, but it's not easy to convert Apple fanboys to Samsung. I don't think the sales are going to rise much further. The iPhone caught up pretty good (at least in the eyes of casual users).

Even those that have been sitting on the fence the last couple of months to see what Apple has to offer?
Also, a personal insight, my mom and sister got a gs3 shortly after release, and genuinely with no persuading from me. They aren't tech heads, but they knew a class phone when they seen it.
The guys waiting for today to make their decision i think will go galaxy.
i think so, seen people taking 99$ deal on amazon right now
it will not be huge spike but there is going to be one.
for me the new iphone disappoint
no new tech or old favorites like fm radio, xenon flash, still LCD and only 4'
i mean 4.5 would have been fine
I wouldn't under estimate the loyalty a large percentage of smartphone users have towards Apple. Most of us probably had an iPhone at one time and moved to Andriod because we expanded our knowedge to include other smartphones and made an informed decision. There are a lot of people that don't realize there are options and will still buy the iPhone 5. Not sure if they will sell 20M after what I saw today but I have learned to never under estimate people with loyalties...

My boss wanted to buy the iphone 5. He is very loyalty to Apple. But he started liking my S3. He already have doubts about buying iphone or not.

Of course, they'll sell shed loads. But the huge advertising campaign with the Olympics, the recent trial and those already on the fence should have the gs3 planted in their heads! I think Samsung will steal a good few of them.
Htc might get a wee jeg too if they get in the news regarding the lte patents (if that even happens)
Exciting times for sure.
I've cleaned up the mess fellas. Please remember to be polite and let's not get too far into the "you know what" discussion. :highfive:
A guy named John Pirsig (sp?) wrote a book titled, 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' a couple of decades back. In it he proposes there are 'Romantic' and 'Classical' people. He and a friend rode across the US (in the book & maybe in real life) on bikes. He had a Harley and the friend a BMW. (patience, it's coming... ) When they rode up the Rockies, the bikes started playing up and while he stopped and worked on his bike, and finally realised it was the reduction in atmospheric pressure needing just a tweak to fix, his mate went and paid a small fortune in a town garage to get his BMW fixed.
Pirsig talked for a bit about those who want an end-result experience and those who wanted to enjoy the journey. Some people forever focus on the end result and miss all the learning and fun along the way, 'big picture' people for whom the nuts and bolts are a horror to be avoided at all costs - literally in the case of his BMW mate.
At the time, as a Helpdesk person, I realised most Mac users are Romantics, people for whom computers are very much NOT fun and who use them solely to get a result and because they have to. Windows users were often some of the same sort, using Windows simply because their work said they had to, but far more of them would, if the subject was explained in terms they understood, become interested in the process and learn to fix their own printer/Word/Excel issues etc.
Apple have polarised the world again with their same-old, same-old tactics. The recent court case against Samsung proves Apple have not lost their litigious attitude towards protecting things they stole in the first place. (WIMP from Rank Xerox) And again we are shown the division between the Romantics and the Classicals - these forums are full of Classicals - look around and you will see lots of people who post about how wonderful this or that version of a ROM is, only to upgrade instantly a new version or even a different ROM comes along.
For most XDA'ers, I think the journey IS the end result - we tend to be travelling along with no particular goal in mind apart from a nebulous 'perfect phone' concept, and if all the developers stopped producing new ROMs to try we'd be heartbroken.
The Apple is good enough for most Apple users, be it Mac, iPad or iPhone. We will never convince them otherwise because they have sipped at the Kool-Aid fountain and like most religious people, they cannot even SEE the contrary information. It doesn't matter if the new iPhone has an A5, A6, A15 or quad or dual, it will be better in their eyes because it powers an Apple. They don't MIND buying expensive corsds ands connectors of all kinds because it is for Apple.
And they definitely don't see an ongoing development process as being a thing of benefit - Apple has spent far too many dollars convincing their world that you don't ever upgrade your device software, you just buy a new device. It is the proud boast of many Apple users that their product is far more stable than Windows, but my old enemy Microsoft constantly produced product that would work (most of the time) on any PC made across a spread of about 10 years, while Apple only ever made software for a very specific hardware platform - if you like, MS made an OS while Apple made glorified Firmware.
The same scenario is happening right now with Android. Android is being made to support all kinds of devices, with a legion of eager supporters providing updates and fixes. (on more of a Linux model than a MS one) Apple will not produce an iOS6 for their old phones, just for the brand new one you have to pay a small fortune for. Samsung (and other Android vendors) are producing updates so you get more life from your phone, providing a level of support to their clients Apple has never tried to match.
And eventually, the numbers will tell - just as in the PC/Mac wars, Apple had to compromise in both hardware and software, (Intel chips and running Windows on Macs) they will find eventually their tactics fail them. In my opinion, Android is the up-and-coming world of phones and pads, and Apple is the dinosaur relying desperately on massive programming... sorry, I mean advertising to keep their victims... I mean customers, loyal.
I think there will be a swing away from Apple as the actuality of the new phone falls far short of expectations and even the glitz Apple will give things will not hide the fact that all they have done is copy what is already being sold for hundreds less. But don't go expecting those weaned on the Kool-Aid to be coming over any time soon - the religious always resist the encroaching reality checks of the real world.
And on a personal note? I LIKE Apple for their litigiousness and mean spirit. If they had been sensible back in the late 80's/early 90's, we'd all be using Macs and locked down so tight I wouldn't have had a 25 year computer career helping others. For more than 2 decades I've had a job description of, 'I'm a bloke, and I fix stuff' that would never have been possible if Apple had treated their customers as anything other than sheeple to be fleeced to the maximum. Their greed allowed PC's to develop and become what we see, and now Apple's greed and contempt will allow Android the space to grow and become the new ubiquitous OS for mobile devices.

*grins* In 1987 I bought an XT clone (1MB Ram, twin 5.25" FDD's - envy of the few I knew with PC's because I could put my programs floppy AND my data one in at the same time ) to write books. I was sick of having to re-type a page or more just to change a sentence. 3 months later the PC got me a new job supporting WPO's at 3 grand per year more than I was getting. and I still haven't written my SciFi books. Working on it now and of course, along comes bloody Samsung S3 with Android and I'm fighting against techo distractions again... le sigh...
Forums like XDA will help greatly with selling Android; some older members need to recall that they once didn't know stuff but mostly folk are very helpful and there is a LOT of info to be had here. Mind you, it suffers a bit from popularity - search for something you want to know and you get like 5000 threads to look through. Needs an Advanced Search function, or maybe I just haven't found it yet. And why can't I search on the entire Samsung S3 forum? le sigh...
I think the reaction from a number of sites about how the court case showed Apple users how they could get everything Apple offered for far less if they stepped away from the Kool-Aid spigot shows an interesting facet to the competition. I haven't seen such comment before, even for Mac/Pentium battles. Usually it was about the differences, not the fact you could get the same thing. It could make a difference, particularly if the members here make a point of posting such a view on any/all forums they are members on.
5th column... the ONLY Army to join...
It is surely a good day for people that knows stuff from the gadget world but for common people they are still awed no matter what. The power of Apple's marketing can even turn a pile of scrap metal into gold.
