How to batch install a set of Apps after a new flash. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Is there currently a way to back backup, and then install the east set of applications I have installed right now? I'd like to swap to the new CM10 preview, but don't like the idea of manually selecting every app I have for restore out of my set of 1000+ on my uSD.
I'm extremely familiar with batch backups, so backing them up isn't the big deal--creating the profile for restoring them--batch restoring them is, though.
I've flashed so many ROMs between all, of my sides that I think I'll go nuts if I have to choose 3-400 out of the 1000+ I have again.

buy the pro key for titanium backup.
One click batch restore of all your apps.
It's pretty much mandatory for serial flashers

Also, I suppose if I could restore just the apps from a nandroid, that'd work as well. Any apps for that? I don't mind unchecking the system apps, it's just dealing with the list of 1k that's crazy. I can handle dealing with a couple hundred. Ideally, I'd get apps+data.

It doesn't work like that. You have to choose from the list of every app you've backed up. Ever. That's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking to restore every app+data I have installed right now.

rename your titanium backup folder to tibu_all or something.
Then make a fresh backup to the standard backup location. That way this new backup is just what you have currently installed.
That should do what you're looking for

Didn't think of that. I suppose I could keep one on the internal to segregate them further. That is, if flashing the ROM won't screw with my internal SD coming from FJMod.
What's the "data profile" feature. And do you happen to know where the "backup TiBU settings" feature went?
Does anyone have any other ideas on a way to do this? Something more discrete or other alternatives? Maybe use another backup app? Any suggestions?

My Back Up Pro works like TiBU but it also saves your sms and phone logs. ~$5.00
You can use TiBU to save your backups to your dropbox so you don't have to be concerned if a new rom wipes everything.

Sms is there too. Nice.

I thought it did. Even though I don't back mine up cause 90% is friends or family asking me to either mod their tablets, PC's or their phones. That gives me the excuse "See, I never got that text or phone call, just look at my log."

TiBu
I am a Tibu fan and big user, bought the key months ago and the best $$ spent...

I use tibu with labels from apps organizer. I have tibu install apps only and a second small group of labeled for apps and data... for call logs and texts I use go backup...it's newer and so far these three utilities have made swapping ROMs a lot easier.

[MOD]<<<< AppsBak-Auto Backup Apps + Data UPDATED: 9/25 >>>>

This mod will backup your apps and auto update the backup on your sdcard at every boot.
Backup apps and data
Flash zip
Open terminal and type su
Then type bak
Follow onscreen instructions
After you do a restore you must reboot or do a hot restart before the apps will show in the menu.
Before installing a new rom just reboot one time to update your backup or do it manually with the script, then after you install your new rom flash this again and restore.
This uses init.d
Now it syncs files instead of using 7zip using rsync. Thanks to dodava for the info and download of rsync it's a much more efficient way to do it.
It also syncs data and settings now but some settings cannot be restored so it excludes those. It keeps your system settings but not accounts like google you have to make those again if you change roms. It does keep app data for installed apps.
Backups are located at /sdcard/appsbak
Please post question/comments/problems here.
If you use this in your rom please leave the creds in the files, Thank You.
Very nice!
I want to know what the script does. I want specific details, I want to see the schematics, I want to know the....

Yep. There's not really a way to pick and choose that I know of. You'd have to write (basically) a backup/recovery app. I think this is slick enough as it is. Restoring the programs is what takes the most times, and decent backup software will let you restore JUST the app data, so if settings are that critical you can do it in no time after you restore from a wipe.
Cool thanks...great idea
This is the best script ever for flashers.
Hey smoke you think this would work on my old evo? I test out stuff on it for dev's. .
Thank you again.
My 3D Shooter not yours!!
Yea it should work all the dirs are the same. Just have to add an updater-script for the old evo to the zip. Or push the files.
Grab the attachment now and flash the auto backup wasn't working properly. So if you got it before this post was made get the new one.
Is there a way to get this to tie into market also...or how exactly does that work? I thought anything you installed from sdcard, that was not from the market, market would never update the app again. Am I wrong in that thinking? If I am right, is there a possibility to backup the apps and also tie them to the market so we can be sure they are updated?
nice downloading now!!

Retrieving Contacts?

Okay, so it turns out I'm a complete moron!
I was on the stock ROM, just with cf-root flashed.
I've just flashed Hyperdroid and I've lost my contacts, as they were all saved to my 'phone'. Any idea as to how to retrieve them?
I don't care about having lost my messages as they were getting clogged anyway. And I don't mind reinstalling apps, setting up email etc etc but I just need to get my contacts back.
Also, now that I'm on Hyperdroid, I can flash themes as much as I want, without it changing any settings, until I find one I truly like, right?
Cheers!
-J
PS: Perhaps from now on I should save them to my SIM? I don't like syncing with Google account because when I did that I ended up with thousands of contacts because it added all the email addresses and crap from my email account! I only want phone numbers in my phone...
PPS: I did a NANDROID backup a couple days ago, if this helps in retrieving my contacts..
Your contacts will be on your Nandroid backup, all is not lost...
Like you, I don't sync my contacts and they're on my phone, not my SIM.
I back up my contacts with Super Backup from the market. Free, and does what it says on the tin.
Restore your Nandroid, install SuperBackup, use it to back up contacts/SMS/whatever, re-flash Hyperdroid, reinstall Superbackup, restore contacts - job done
You can use titanium backup (pro) app or free market app "appextractor" to restore contacts directly from nandroid backup. Maybe reboot after, Done.

Just a note that you can have the phone only display contacts with phone numbers or specific groups if you wanted to sync them to Google. It is in the contacts app settings.

[Q] efficient ROM flashing - apn, settings, ...

hello, i was curious to hear what others are doing and using to help in the flashing of ROM and restoring some basic settings like for example, saved wireless networks, apn settings, ...
would love to hear so i can hopefully save some time in the re set up of my phone following the flashing of a rom
best regards
I've always found for best results, do clean installs. It takes longer, but you're less likely to have issues.
But you can use Titanium Backup to backup apps... Or you can restore data partition through recovery, just be careful and make sure u know what you're doing.
This belongs in q&a btw

how about for apn settings, does anyone use anything to aid in the re input of these? I see an app in the play store however, the most popular one still doesn't seem that widely used.
thanks
for apn's you should be able to find the required settings on your provider's site, or google search for correct info. There's a thread on the boards here that shows apn settings for most, if not all amaze carrier apn's, but since you're too lazy to search for them, I am too lazy to search for you and provide a link

Your google account should restore your wifi network password and settings, apn settings should be auto detected by your device and pushed to it by your carrier, well at least for me that always happens, never once had to input manually, well except for a special case, but that's a whooooole other story, lol.

I actually wasn't asking what the apn settings are but rather how to more easily restore them, if people are using anything.
Judging from another comment, maybe it is Wind that will not auto populate or detect them when I do a "restore default".
as far as auto restore wifi networks I had, google does not do this for me anyway.
I do wipe everything, cache, dalvik, and factory reset, before flashing new ROM so that may erase everything.
OK, maybe there is no easier or quicker way for these items
appreciate the feedback however
No apn restore options, but check out appextractor. I love this app, it helps a ton. Here is a screen shot of the main functions, it pulls all the info from your cwm or 4ext backups

[Q] What .apk's are safe to remove from the /system/app folder?

Basically, I want to know what bloatware crap is safe to remove from the /system/app folder? What things in there will never be used? I'm new to this site and I think I'm gunna start using ALOT now that I have the new Evo and you guys here seem really helpful! Thanks!
It depends on what you use your phone for....if it seems like something your not gonna use like jetcet print or polaris office delete it my general rule is if your in doubt dont delete or at least have a nandroid backup that you can default to if you do delet something important.

With all the storage available, and if you are going to use an ext sd card as well, good rule of thumb is to use an app like System Tuner or Titanium and FREEZE apps/services instead of deleting. Much less of a PITA should you encounter an issue, and you still save RAM.

You can disable most of them under settings>applications. That's the easiest way and works without root. Then titanium after that. I definitely wouldn't delete anything until you flash a recovery and do a full backup. Even if you don't do a full backup at least you have a way of flashing a new rom if you delete the wrong thing.
I freeze things using Titanium Backup as well. Its the best way to go. I've already found a few things it didn't like.

When you say disable security do you mean allow unknown sources?
I am on the base .5, rooted and unlocked with FreeGee .5. Installed the zip(painlessly), but no Google Now. It tries to start, then crashes with "android.process.acore" has stopped. Also, Google Voice no longer will start. Restoring backup, and will try again...
BTW, very nice to see another developer in the mix. I am never afraid to try something new.

What does it mean to have security disabled?
The security thing is for those of you that only rooted and did not use the bootloader unlock exploit. Just make sure you have a CMW backup that works before using.
Speaking of backups, I found out (the hard way) that backups taken with the original non-touch freegree CWM do not restore! My problem with the Google Now and android.process.acore was cleared up with a simple clear data per adfurgerson's suggestion, so no harm no foul for me. But if you still have the non-touch version of CWM, install the touch version THEN take a backup.

You could also try a different browser. Dolphin or naked browser are good.

Nice, seems to be working well, but I can't get it to launch apps. For example, if I say "open app Pandora" or "launch Pandora" it does a google search for the phrase instead of launching the app. Any ideas?

Hmm not sure this is related to this tweak in particular but I get a error when I first use the Google search icon and it force closes
"could not opt you in to lattitude please check your map settings "
Thing is that every thing in location settings in maps is enabled
Any ideas?
