From time to time, or from hour to hour, The lower part of my screen keeps acting like Im touching it by itself, its like the "enter" key keeps pressing, zooming in/out in browser/gallery, selecting tweets in Twitter, etc...all alone!!
I tried rebooting, recalibrating, reflashing..
Another thing, after going out from airconditioned area to none, the screen stops responding for a while, then its ok, but i think its a humidity/heat thing??
Any ideas whats going on? Any tips??

I'm using the Impact case, but i dont use a protector, ill try the protector came with the case anyways, but i cant have it until returning to my apartment in my university's city..and no stores in my hole country sell any streak/accessories, no ebay/amazone shipping too
it gets really annoying sometimes, like its taking about 5 mnts to write this respond !!! (Enter , capitalize, z, x, smiley, enter X5, num.& symbols...)all by itself

Have you tried a screen calibration yet?
I don't know how dell's screen calibration works (it should detect the background electromagnetic fields, if I'm not mistaken, so it can filter them out and register only actual touches) but it doesn't seem to work or the screen is overly sensitive by nature (hence the advice for pocket storage that I haven't seen for other capacitive touch phones). My phone, for example, actually registers some touches when I haven't even touched the screen yet and my finger is still about 1cm above the screen. While it's not as bad as the op's problem, it's still strange, like it reads my mind, and more importantly screen calibration doesn't solve it.

Olways put ur dell streak insyd ur pocket vd its screen facing up and not to d body..
As u know dat dell streak has touchscreen which only works through body friction..
So whn u keep it insyd ur pocket vd d screen facing ur body its touch calibration is disturbed..
So switch off ur phone..
Go to recovery mode.. by pressing both d volume buttons n d power button..
N in d menu u'll find screen calibration..
Select it..
N ur touch vl b back to normal as new..

Given where you sent this message from, I think you may be in the wrong forum.
If not, I can't say I've had such an issue, but apart from using a mod to turn off the LEDs for good, there's probably not much you can do.

Yea I have the same problem, My gfs doesnt. I think its a factory defect when they are putting it together. One little pinhole in the paint that seperates the softkeys from the rest of the screen and boom, you have led glare half way up the screen.
I had 3 vibrants replaced an they all had same problem but I dont care buttons are off most of the time

I have this problem but it's very minor. I barely see it when dark. Do they just give you a new vibrant for replacement? Were you able to force them to let you do like an upgrade to a better phone or something?
no they replaced the chrome bezel and the housing + the display and glass...
It's practically new now..

Same exact thing here. The home button leakage is on most(if not all) vibrants. But it's only noticable in near or in pitch dark really. Using 2.2.1 roms turn off the lights while not being used but for some reason, that particular build on whatever rom always decreases sensitivity to the point where going back to used applications(holding home) doesn't work while the processor is being used extensively(800-1ghz) which is REALLY annoying. Anyone else by chance?

Since doing the work it too much, Ilm sure they instead give you a refurbished vibrant and used your old one for parts. In other words, Samsung didn't repair anything for yours but gave you another vibrant(which could be using parts from various sources).
It's the same imei and the same way the home button leaks... I also have a minor scratch on the camera which mine still has

For example, when I'm switching from home screens, the instant I press on the screen and start swiping, it takes about half a second to move. Is that normal? I'm using a thin screen protector, could that be the problem, if there is any.

It's clearly nonsense. At least, what I can decipher from it.
When I'm trying to draw or write on my note, when I go to use it, it draws when i get within two inches or so of the screen....
So my regular, non-cursive, writing looks like crap. Bad.
How can I turn that functionality off, or turn sensitivity down?
***Tap the S-Pen on something hard, and see if there is a difference. Took me three tries.
I'm pretty sure that is not a feature, and is a defect either in the software or unfortunately the hardware. You might need a new S Pen to fix the problem the right way.
There's a youtube video out there on how to "fix" this issue, but what it really does is reduce the sensitivity of the pen to the screen and you probably lose some serious pressure levels when applying this fix. Sorry no link, but I would advise trying your S Pen on the verizon floor model and see if it does the same thing to that one. Then you can feel fairly certain you need a replacement pen.

I was thinking the same thing... if the pen is dropped and the tip is pushed back in to the pressure sensor then it would be 'active' all the time and the hover feature would be interrupted by the phone like touching the screen. A flat tip would be a good indication of that being the case.

check to see if the tip of the s pen is pressed in as it would be if you were touching the screen. It is a physical button that pushes in while writing.
Is there a mod allowing (with a button combination) to disable completely the touchscreen while leaving the screen on?
When I show a picture around, if anybody grabs my phone, 99% of the times they end up touching the screen (especially if they are not familiar with the SGS3 thin borders) messing up the display.

I have no screen protector and my home button doesn't register often either. Also when trying to touch places in the standard browser it doesn't register immediately. Starting to think there's a defect in screen or software.

I'm having the sane issues it does it with the back button as well. Did it before I put the screen protector on it. It doesn't help that they sit so close to the screen. When I start tapping frantically trying to make it work I end up pressing whatever is right above it on the screen. Thinking about returning it to try another but if it's a common problem I don't want to waste my time. It's not too bad usually at least one of the two buttons will register if the other one won't

I had the same issue on my device. It took three swaps to figure out it wasn't the phone but, the Zagg HD screen protector I had on it. Once I took it off, everything started behaving as intended,
I noticed last night that my Zagg screen protector still had some water bubbles (very tiny ones) near the home button. So today after another night the bubbles are gone and the home button works well enough I can assign a double tap short cut.
Never had any issues with the back button, just for reference.

I'm almost 100% sure it has to do with the screen protector.
I was using an Otterbox Defender case which has the screen protector with the soft keys uncovered. I was using the phone without a hitch. But this morning I decided to use a different screen protector other than the one provided by Otterbox and that screen protector covers the soft keys.
Now I'm having issues with the sensitivity of the soft keys.
Somehow covering the soft keys with the screen protector affects the sensitivity level of the soft keys. I'm thinking of uncovering the soft keys just to finally confirmed that, that is the problem.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Same problem on Sprint variant. I went to the store and the display model also had same problem. Neither had a screen protector.
This is either a widespread hardware defect or a widespread software problem.
Some have said the latest update to the Taiwan variant fixed it.
RE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245637
I have had the issue as well and I believe it's software, rather than hardware. If my back button freezes and I turn the screen off and then back on, it works fine. It only seems to do it when I "overload" the back button in an app that needs it a lot, like this one.
