For those of us who are soff and on custom roms (but not crazy ones like sense 4.0), is there a way to just get the new radio and kernel without too much pain (nandroid with 10x wipes or bricks). Thanks

if you want to use the radio for GSM ability then you would need to use the frame work that is packaged with the update or wait the devs to update there roms.
as of now. the new radio only added GSM stuff to the already packaged radio that came with ICS leak months ago. unless you plan on using GSM its not going to do anything for ya.
but if you dont want to run it you will needed to use the zip and then use this rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830859

There is a link in this thread that will take you to the various combos of radio/hboot. Don't mix and match...and the 5/7 radio/hboot combo is the same as in the OTA.

There's a new firmware/radio combo that came out over the weekend that isn't posted there yet.
Also, the new kernel only works with the new base, it won't boot on existing ICS roms.
Here are the radios:

Ya just wait till the new update comes out from a dev either in a rom or what not then flash it. That would let you update your radio.

Most of our roms have the ciq removed already....since TrevE made that little discovery a long time ago it "should" be a non issue. See below for the radio info.

^Reaper your info is a little confusing / inaccurate here^
Radio's are flashed from H-boot and are totally not rom related at all. If you're on h-boot 1.4 you just boot into bootloader with the radio on the root of your sd card named "PG86IMG.zip" and flash regardless of your rom. If you have h-boot 1.5 you are SOL and cannot flash radios with out returning to stock and taking an OTA update and re-rooting. Anyways there is a thread stickied in the development section by gu1dry with all of our available radios except the latest which just came out the other day here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193101...... Read it carefully and understand it before you flash a radio. The latest radio can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443592 If you get a bad flash, or do it wrong, or your battery dies while you're flashing it, or you flash a gsm radio to a cdma device....YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
Any other relevant improvements from that OTA update the other day will be in a future update to the rom you're currently running......I believe this is what reaper24 meant, but it wasn't really worded correctly.

I have never seem a radio cooked into ROM before. I've only seem them packaged for bootloader flashing, or in the old days on the evo 4g, some you could flash with Amon RA recovery. Even then, I still never saw one cooked in a ROM.

Thought virus had a rom that had radios cooked into it back on the OG Evo days. Was a big rom user and I remember having to downgrade or upgrade your radios through amon with the rom.

No, it was a radio preference. It's what the person above says. If there's a radio in the ROM. It requires a bootloader flash.

Yes and no. No, you can just run one of the new ROMs with the patch that is posted. Yes, you should just update and run the RUU because things will be, in general, much smoother for you. Your choice, though.
What are some of the bugs of the new radio?
Bugs? I've got none. It runs incredibly well. And I'm on the Dev edition of CleanROM.
Or just flash an older ics rom. Cleanrom 3 is based off the old leaks, so you don't have to flash leaked firmware.
i asked because usually you do not have to be on a specific radio to run a rom. i don't really like running leaked radios.

I am not responsible for any damage to your device! .
DO NOT mix ICS and GB Radios. DO NOT ask how to install these radios, I feel if you must ask how your not ready to handle the task and the demons that may occur, there are many threads on how to do these things.
If you end up goofing up and realize you have no or fluctuating 4G do the following.
1. Flash the RUU of your choice.
2.Upon installation flash nothing! reboot into HBOOT and select clear storage and let it run its course (remove sdcard if you want even though it wont wipe external card
3. Reboot phone normally verify everything is smooth
4. Optional- Flash Eng Hboot for GB or the Juopunutbear modified Hboot for ICS
5. Alternate Fix- Ive heard that you can flash stock recovery to the phone via fastboot reboot into hboot and select clear storage and will have same effect to get 4G working. Custom recoveries do not work to fix the issue via wipe menu. I only state use RUU of your choice as it gives you a clean slate and can be ruled out down the line in troubleshooting

I would think any. Its just the radio. At least with GB ROMs.

It game from GB, so will work there. I ran it on RezRom S4 as well but not more than a few minutes to test it out so it appears to work for GB, ICS 3.6 sense based roms, and the ICS 4.0 evita based ones as well.
Of course I cant atest to the battery life on each just yet thats going to vary from user to userand rom to rom

I know at some point in the leaks, the new firmware changed the mount points for the memory... internal and SDcard I believe.
It messes with the OS seeing all or any of the memory.
If this change is in the radios then people might have issues mixing GB and ICS ROMs and radios.
If it is in Hboot, we don't need to worry.
There are a couple versions of ICS leaked firmware, the newest is the problem child for some people. Maybe we need to have the other leaked versions as well.
Hi no,
Would you please create RUU 2.xx.xxx radio ?
Thanks

True but theres a large handful of other files in the firmware and I dont think that radio firmware will contain the memory mount points

And you concluded that from what exactly? Did you try messing up with the framework and it worked for you? Thought so.
Point is, till this time, no one knows for sure where the issue is in. Some say it's the RIL others suggest the framework..etc. I for one, is keeping all the options open.

When the sms fails to be sent, it's due to trying to use the CDMA service and not the gsm as per logcat. Additionally this was a problem on stock GB radio, OTA GB radio and leaked ICS radio. So none of the available radios are capable of resolving the issue.
It's a software side problem and the only two things left to research is RIL and framework.
and just a friendly advice, don't come off like an douche, we all want the same thing
Thank you for posting these for the community.
After two days of trying i managed to get it working!!! i however did use a paper clip and did not bother insulating it after trying with speaker and coax. everything seems fine. Is that ok?
I was going to also ask what can we do besides flashing radios and hboots? will nandroid backup now back everything up including radios, and hboots?
Another question. Ive been looking at sebastion OC kernel and one other and they dont seem to say if it is for ICS or Gb or what build? will it work with the latest stuff?

1. Yeah that's fine all the testers just used uninsulated paper clips too
2 Android backups won't save Hboot or radios, but they will save the boot.img and s-off allows for downgrading firmware and easier rom flashes
3. Sebastions kernel is ICS only so it will work with the latest stuff, but not GB

Releasing more ROMs? Are you referring to sense 5 ROMs based on the latest stock OTA? If not, there are plenty of great ROMs out there for the DNA. I've personally used ViperDNA (2.0.3), CM10.2, SlimBean 4.3.1, crDroid 4.3. They have all worked great, and there are plenty more to try. Thinking about making the jump to one of the 4.4 AOSP based ROMs (quite a few out now).

I am referring to the new ROMs (and ROMs, such as ViperDNA) that work with the new 3.06 firmware and are updated to work with it. I have seen several out there, but as for working with the new firmware, when I posted, there were few that were updated to work with it. I am not saying any of them are bad, or do not work, I am just looking for them to update and run on the new firmware, that is all.
I do not want to get something to try and run but not work because of firmware issues. For this reason, that is why I am running DNA Super Stock Sense5 released for the 3.06 firmware. I like it because it is unbloated stock with a few minor tweaks that really are nice (what is specifically coming to mind is the battery percentage on the notification bar, inlaid in the battery level).

Your firmware shouldn't matter, the ROM you flash is your firmware. It includes the kernel, system, and apps. Radios are not flashed when you flash a rom, but all the radios work with all the ROMs.
I have never upgraded past the 1.15 firmware and I've been running a variety of ROMs. The only things I've changed are the radio and recovery (so I can flash 4.4 ROMs). No problems aside from the known bugs since I clean flash everything (system, cache, dalvik, and data).

Thanks for clearing that up! This was my understanding as well, so I was a bit confused when with the mention of the lack of ROMs compatible with the latest OTA. I hadn't heard of issues running any ROM after accepting the latest OTA and getting s-off through rumrunner.
