Play Movies & TV issues on Rooted Evo lte - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I know this issue has been posted on a few other phones forums but i couldn't find one concerning the evo lte
I bought a few movies using the $25 from my nexus 7 and although i don't really plan on watching them on my evo lte. I get the "playback not supported on this device" my phone is on stock 1.22.651.3 710RD rooted with zedomax's method from here http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-4g-l...tc-evo-4g-lte-unlock-bootloadertwrp-recovery/ obviously i don't have s-off.
I tried to use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper but unless i followed the 2 step process wrong it didn't work. Wanted to know if anyone has a fix for this?

I want to find a solution for this as well bc it is rather annoying to not be able to use certain apps, mainly tv and video apps. I'm holding off on rooting just because I want to use the free $25 in HTC watch. Wish they had more movies that were worth a crap and I would use it more.
I came across a thread that I believe fixed the issue for time warner cable app that only allows non-rooted users. Let me look for it and I will post it.
Be sweet if it worked for other apps as well.
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!
---------- Post added at 07:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:36 AM ----------
Can't find the exact post, but what they did was change the name of superuser.apk to something else. This is bc the time warner cable app only checked for that file to see if the device was rooted.
I'm surprised this isn't an issue for more people. It is one of the only things slowing me down to root. Well, this, gwallet bricking possibly, and the trouble of getting all the data back on my phone.
Well, good luck to u brotha
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!

to update my situation i tried a few different things.
1) Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to temporary unroot. Used root checked, said i did not have root access. Tried Play Movies & TV still get message "Playback not supported on this device". Restore root via Voodoo
2) Disable SuperSU in settings. Once again us RootChecker and confirms I dont' have root access. Still doesn't work. Restore SuperSU.
Here's my theory. My Google Wallet mentions i'm on an unsupported device. I temporarily unrooted and reset everything on google wallet and it still showed up as an unsupported device. Clearly whether i'm rooted or not doesn't effect this. I'm guessing the google apks looks for something else. Since I used zedomax's root method via htcdevunlock when i go to reboot into recovery i see along the top of the screen
**TAMPERED**
**UNLOCKED**
I'm guessing google is able to see this and this is causing problems. If i had full s-off it may not be an issue but I don't believe there is a safe S-OFF method for .3 yet.
If anyone could give me some tips i'd appreciate it otherwise I'm considering going back to being unrooted for now.
Also I want to make sure i thought Google Play Movies & TV allowed playback on rooted devices I've read several online articles that state they were suprised that google allows this. Is this still true? or is the latest update (2.0.21) not allow this

Hello,
I am having the same issue when attempting to download/play Google Play Movies. What ROM are you running? I don't know if that has any effect on the issue, but are ALL rooted ROMs for the HTC Evo 4G LTE device having the issue, or is it only certain ROMs?
I also tried using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, but had no luck, and I'm certain I was running it correctly. I'm very much looking forward to a resolution to this issue. I just got the MHL adapter to connect my phone to my HDTV, and the picture is AMAZING!! Would love to be able to watch movies this way.

If you can use fastboot try using fastboot oem lock or something like that just make sure you have the unlock bin file so when.done you can unlock it
Checkout my forums @ android-developers.forumatic.com

I'm running MeanROM and having the issue. From reading his thread, it looks like mikeyxda was going to address it at some point back in July, but then I saw no more mentions of it or a resolution. I'd like to be able to post something there, but xda has this 10-post rule before being able to post in that forum.

[Q] Non-Market Apps?

I've heard that the Atrix, Inspire 4G, and a few other newer phones aren't supporting installation of non-market downloaded apps. Has anyone heard if the TB will follow suit? Since there are some unboxings and reviews of it on youtube, I would figure someone would have checked already but I can't find anything on it.

at&t does to all android phones regardless so thats expected
Verizon hasnt yet so i doubt it
even so, just use ADB to sideload if it comes to it
from what I know its an ATT thing not an htc thing... they wouldn't allow nonmarket apps on the aria either... if I pick up the phone and go into development and it doesn't allow me to install non market apps I'll give it right back to them... not to steal anything but becuase sometimes newer isn't always better... sometimes older versions work better for me
They shouldn't be able to block you from installing anything, it's trash.
Any way to do this yet without the wonder machine?
yes, either root the phone or use htc sync if you hate adb

Unlocking and Movies from the market, can someone verify?

My biggest concern about unlocking is the ability to watch movies on my TFP from google's market.
On my EVO 3d Even though it is unlocked they still work fine but the rumor was that it would not with our new TFP.
There are currently 25c and 99c options available to rent off the market, can someone who has an unlocked and custom rom please verify that after doing so you can still not only purchase but download to make available offline and watch a movie from the market?
This is a feature I cannot due without with the traveling I do and work. I know you can always purchase/bootleg but the sheer convenience of simply clicking a button and being done with it is huge to me.
Thanks!
I dont know as I dont care that much BUT for just rooters I wonder if something like Voodoo Root Keeper could be used to unroot, trick system to watch, reroot. I doubt it, but might be worth 25 cents to find out.
Just rented a 25cents movie on a rooted/unlocked device.
You can rent it, but when trying to view it says video playback is not supported on a rooted device. So unfortunately it is true.
There was a hacked Google Video.apk file floating around XDA that allowed you to watch rented videos on a rooted device...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211743
I can watch it on a rooted device, I am rooted right now on my TFP and watch plenty of movies without having to unroot.
The question was the bootloader unlock, apparently that is the flag that stops it. That is why I have not yet taken that step.

You can thank drm and the mpaa for that. Google just does what they HAVE to do to provide the service, it's unfortunate that the recording /movie industry was so resistant to the Internet and blind to the opportunity that it had to come to this.

Yeah it worked fine for me (rooted) until i unlocked the bootloader.Ended up watching the movie on my unlocked/rooted Sensation.
It`s a pain but i unlocked knowing this would happen.....hoping some dev can find a work-around.
Correct, as originally stated:
Rooted Only - Works with no problem, streaming or download.
Bootloader Unlocked - No longer works.
I found a hacked google videos apk, that is supposed to work on the xoom. I tried it and it just forced closes. Heres the link if anyone wants to try it.

[Q] Nabi 2 Google Play Store

Hi Ive been trying to root my Nabi 2 tablet to access the Google Play Store. Ive downloaded ADB and followed instructions, Ive also got the correct drivers etc, when i ran the root tool by jmz I chose option 1 and it ran through the process, is there anything else I need to during during this as I then booted up and it was just the same as before?! Im normally an apple fan and experienced in jailbreaking etc but this is my first android as Im trying to exchange all my apple devices for android lol. Can some help me find a step by step full tutorial as Ive been trying to follow the one in this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1905674 but I cant understand what else I need to do?! Thanks in advance
Anybody?! JMZTAYLOR if you see this can you please write a quick tutorial on what I need to do as Im clearly doing something wrong. Its probably just something so simple Im missing?! Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry if this post is extremely noobish Im normally very adaptable!
Any Luck?
I was just wondering, it's been over a month with no post here. Did you get it working? If so can you post your solution or a link to the thread with the solution you used?
Not sure about the root tool for your device, but any good root tool will install a superuser app, such as Superuser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
Not sure if you got your issues sorted yet but if you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674 I am sure someone could help you. I just rooted 2 in about 20 minutes over the weekend. Good luck
There's no need to root the nabi for the play store...
http://everythingnabi.blogspot.com/2012/08/googlie-booglie.html
Interesting, except for step 21:
21. Do not update or attempt to install any apps, as it will force close the Google Play Store. The apk file installed is not fully functional on the nabi 2 Tablet. It does however allow for the purchase of Books, Movies and Music. The following pop-up will appear if you attempt to update or purchase an app.
If you root you will have a fully functional Play Story as well as text AND video on Google Talk plus many other features

I want to get Google Play working on my son's Nabi 2 as well, but I'm pretty concerned over the touch calibration issue some people are having on the ROM thread about rooting it. I've only had one android device (my galaxy s2) and thought about rooting it, but couldn't find an overly compelling reason to do so. Now that the Nabi 2 needs it, I would be loathe to brick it/mess it up to get this calibration issue. Even if I try on my s2, this Nabi seems a tad different for some reason.

That is a very rare issue. If you root it and have a problem with the touch screen it only effects recovery software once it's rooted and gapps installed you won't have to go back to recovery.

It is indeed a rare issue, if the script goes fine, you shouldn't have to do anything in recovery yourself anyway. Here is the gapps.zip that fixes the 'android upgrading' on every boot.

If you want a more manual approach, check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463
It's written for Ubuntu, but the commands are easy to adapt for Windows as well. You install adb and fastboot differently and you remove 'sudo' from the commands.

Nabi 2 works great with Amazon App store (over 50,000 apps). Ex. Unless I installed Minecraft PE, my son would have 2 tablets for Christmas, his with no minecraft and mine with. In daddy mode you can get amazon and the installed apps are manageable in the add/remove to decide which apps to allow your child to see. PS: DO NOT add Amazon store to Nabi mode (unless your child is older, or unless your rich and don't mind your child maxing out a credit card on apps). Personally, I have jailbroken ipads for friends and rooted my last Motorola phone, but I wouldn't risk and consequences of screwing up your child's brand new tablet. You can go from Hero to Zero if you mess up.

Just be prepared to lose a bit more battery life when you install the Amazon app store. I have heard about it taking up a bit more battery due to licence checks, running in the background and such.

Also - stupid question - is it technically feasible to install the Play store without rooting?

Root zte overture aio wireless????

Hello all. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I recently got my girlfriend a zte overture on aio wireless. I've been looking at a method to root this phone and have found nothing. The phone is pretty decent, not even looking for a custom ROM (yet), just need root to bypass the Google hangout video call WiFi restriction, and to get wifitether working for her.
I understand that their isn't much demand for ROMs and what not for that phone. But with aio wireless going nation wide and the phone being only 150 bucks with semi nice specs and 4g, figured something's would start popping up for this phone.
Anyway any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

ZTE Overture z995 - root method from other ZTE's?
I tried the Lumina 620 last week with Aio, and while the phone hardware was awesome the Windows Phone 8 OS was my hangup - (cmon guys, cant even add custom notification sounds? No system file explorer? The HERE maps are 2 years old or more in my area too...).
So I went back to Aio and got the ZTE Overture (Z995). (LTE Rocks! Wow I like the speed and coverage in DFW!)
It's a nice phone - low on memory, but it allows you to remove facebook with no issues, and the build on it is not too junked up.
Can anyone tell or theorize on whether other ZTE root methods work on this phone? I'd love to put a hosts file ad block on it...
Model: Z995
Android Ver: 4.1.2
Baseband: Z995T01
Kernel: 3.4.0-svn5856 [email protected]
I have seen statements that ZTE doe not have a locked bootloader. I noticed in my phone settings, in system updates, it even has options for "Storage card updates" and the "Update ZTE Software" option seems to try to open a zip file on the SD card... so does that mean you could put SU in a zip file and just ask the phone to apply the zip to get root? I doubt it's that simple, but I thought I would ask...
I've tried using google translate on baidu to see if anything came up but man, it's tough to navigate that site if you don't speak Chinese...
Oh - This phone is $79 at Aio. I also asked what happens to us Aio folks when AT&T shuts Aio down to merge it with Cricket in the coming months and got blank stares... (we should be OK, they'll just move us into Cricket I assume. They people at the Aio store might not be so lucky.)
Haven't heard anything about a merge with cricket. Aio just went national about a month ago so that would be strange.
Anyway, I'm still searching for an answer to get root on that phone.
Want to bypass the need to be on WiFi for hangouts, which needs root to achieve.
I'll be sure to post if I find anything

Do a quick Google for "att cricket aio", you'll see the blogs and news about it... Who knows - maybe if ATT shutters AIO we can get an unlock code early for free.
(hey just a thought does AIO stand for "ATT's Independent Operator"? And would that be ironic, or an oxymoron? )
I must be tired, I've started making bad jokes....

I haven't found anything yet. It must not be an extremely popular phone based on the low quantity of hits I get looking around the net for info on it.
Which is weird because I really like it. I got over 5 days of life and was still at 30% when I plugged it in last week, which is awesome (less than 10 minutes talk time on it however). I wasnt sure how much battery life an LTE connection would take but it doesent appear to be much in standby.
I do see references to a ZTE blade and rooting them, and that thread (I think its in xda somewhere) stated all ZTE phones have unlocked bootloaders... and there are threads about the 990 (the Overture is the 995) being unlocked. But until I see someone play with their 995 I am not assuming ZTE left it unlocked. It is a phone on the ATT network so I would expect them to be less customer friendly. (qualification: they dont like you monkeying with their phones as much, but the customer service is tons better than a straight-talk type provider for sure)
I am just hoping I'll run across a post stating how to root it someday. LTE is awesome speeds, but it still burns me up to have to spend some of my bandwidth on video ads on youtube. Especially for something I would never buy and they show the same commercial over and over and over...
-=RB
I also read that zte devices where all unlocked. But if my memory serves correctly, the guide on how to root zte devices found on xDA was for android 2.3.
Surprised that nothing has appeared for the phone. It was a cheap decent price with lte capabilities. Thought more people would be using it.
When I get a chance to tinker with the phone I will.

Well I tried that Root Method and it seem to work fine and its pretty easy. Installed super user seems to be working fine the only thing that i am having toruble with is getting the wifi tether to work (im using WiFi tether- TrevE Mod) got it installed and all but when i turn it on it gives me a message tethering started with errors to go to the show log.. I do that and in the show logg everything looks fine except a section named "Enabling NAT rules..." that says failed any suggestions????
Never played much with wifi tethering but usb tethering works. I used foxfi free, however they cut off at bout 45 mb then ya need to restart it. Tried a few others with lil success so far. Gota like AIOs tethering policy, or lack of.
Good to know this will root, cept now I get to figure out why it wouldnt for me. You used oneclickroot? Did you install the drivers manually?
Yes I did install the drivers manually I was having trouble at first for some reason it would get stuck on on of the processes but finally got it. I the only thing is that im having toruble trying to tethering i dont know why have not tried the usb method might try that dont know if i would be abel to used it with my playstaion.. thats the main reason i was trying to tether..
Any was I was reading that that the erros message that it gave me in my show log.. (Enabling NAT rules... Failed) had something to do with the kernel not supporting wifi tether that i would have to flash a different kernel in the phone any suggestions??

so, what actually works?
Ok, just so I read the thread correctly, the one click root site DID work for getting root, but the other referenced thread talking about rooting the blade has not been proven to work on the 995/overture, correct?
One click pops up frequently in my searches for root, but I thought it involved downloading a windows app and paying $30 to some unknown website. If that is true then I'll wait till another method is posted. I won't risk running an app unless I know what it is really doing to both my phone and my PC. And I am certainly not forking out $30 for it.
It seems risky and, well, not in the spirit of xda... I mean isn't it more about learning how it all works, discovering how to do it on your own, and working with fellow xda'ers to develop and vet a good (transparent) process for root?
If one click works well and you don't mind the cost and not knowing what their software is really doing, then that's ok. There's no right or wrong here in my opinion.
I just don't see it as being as much fun or as safe a way to get to root...

Well then I guess the reviews on their forum were incorrect then... When I looked thru their blog there were comments stating it asked for $$ at some point. Aside from that there were tons of complaints about unsupported phones... And maybe one or two happy posts out of 20 bad ones.
I'll give it a closer look then. I know I can sandbox the application in a VM, so maybe I can get a backup of the phone before I play with it w/o using clockwork as well.
Will post what I find... Thanks!
OK, who actually got oneclick to work? And has anyone used the blade thread sucessfully?
Also, if you read the legalese when installing it, it clearly states the payment for service must be made to a canadian recovery company, and that you release all rights, etc etc. I did notice any legalese on privacy was missing, which I expected to see. There is a license tab with a space for activation codes as well. (i.e. it's definitely a paid app, but trying to find out how much is difficult, its not on their website anywhere.)
And I can verify the oneclickroot tries to see the device (goes thru identify, validate, download, install), but always throws up a "Please confirm your device is connected - install ADB manually" box. ADB Driver links bounce you to the ZTE news page that has a link for an older "ZTE 3G adb driver download" which gives you a file - "ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC.rar". And after installing that, I still don't have any luck getting the solution to work.
I suspect those first few "steps" in oneclick root are bogus as well, because if you don't have any phone connected and start the process, it still goes through the "Identify, validate, download, install" steps.
For the phone, I noticed that while I can choose from several different options for connections in settings (Charge Only, USB Mass Storage, Install Driver, Connect to PC Software, Media Device (MTP), and Camera (PTP) ) several of those options show a failure in windows for the "Android" driver. That said, I have no problem using or connecting to the phone as a media device, camera, or mass storage device, so I'm not sure what the "Android" device driver that keeps failing is supposed to be for. Maybe that's what is preventing oneclickroot from going further, but I have no way to tell at this point.
So I would recommend at this point to stay away from it. Overpriced, does not work (even though it attempts to appear it is doing something), and privacy concerns are not addressed in their legalese, as well as we still have no idea what their executable is actually doing to the phone or the windows host, and they wont clearly state what it costs.

There may be an app blocking mobile hotspot like tmobile puts on there phones. Seems unlikely since AIO told me they had no problems with tethering but never know. Pick up an uninstaller from the play store an look through all the apps.
Only other suggestion i can think of right now is trying the different wifi tethering apps available.
Maybe one of these days we will get a dev in here making custom ROMS, can only hope. :fingers-crossed:
This may be something http://androidforums.com/force-4g-lte-all-things-root/702172-wifi-tether.html
Would try it myself but don't have it yet. Or access to the phone i was setting up. (that woman was crazy)

No Netflix, no Amazon Prime Video

I had my tablet reset and installed from scratch yesterday. It restored my apps from my google account and both Netflix and Amazon Prime were installed.
Weird: Netflix was installed, but once I click on it, it says that it's incompatible with this version, please Update. I can't update, because it doesn't even turn up in the play store. Amazon Prime Video starts, shows available content in HD, a movie plays, but only audio, no video, just a black screen. DRM info said that it's L1 security, so everything should work in terms of DRM.
However, PlayStore says that the device is Uncertified. Disabling, clearing data and cache didn't make a change.
System Software is up to date and I have no idea where to start looking.
Just to make sure that this is not the culprit, I made a full reset of the device AND relocked the bootloader, so this should be a device like factory new.
Yet, PlayStore uncertified, no Netflix, black picture in Amazon Prime HD. I am really tempted to just throw this device out of the window.

Never assume relocking bootloader makes it stock.
Efuses and DRM keysxare common, and once they are blown/wiped, it's game over, you will never return to stock

You do have something to back your assumption up with, say, facts?
What are the manufacturers, what supports your claim in term of engineer analysis?
Where can I read about it?

The fact that you've unlocked, relocked but Playstore says uncertified and you're having these problems?
Don't have a go at someone trying to help you out, fella. CrazyPeter is only suggesting the possibility that once you're unlocked, that's it: it's highly possible that "re-locking" doesn't undo something that's used by apps to detect non-stock. It's not for him to prove that's true, he's only trying to help. You should have done your own research before unlocking.
I'd been through this before too. If you unlocked bootloader, your tablet will fail safetynet test. Playstore wouldn't let you install or update netflix.
I tried relock bootloader and it passed safetynet, Netflix will come up in Playstore and allowed to install. It worked fine with HD streaming. You have to make sure to start from scratch and don't restore from backup after relock bootloader (which factory reset your device anyway)
I went with supposedly best solution, unlocked bootloader , stay with stock recovery and just fastboot patched ramdisk for magisk installation. In the end magisk would make your device pass safetynet and can install netflix and works fine. Also you can recieve an OTA update, and can always patch magisk again on new build.
Don't know about primevideo since I don't use t.

This is the solution I followed when I initially unlocked my bootloader.
Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix all work.
whih device was this on?
a US device (WIFI only?) or an international/Chinese device with LTE/4G?
I am about to purchase a Chinese version in order to get LTE and I am wondering whether I will be unable to download and watch netflix?
I got my CMR-W09 (wifi) tablet today and I can confirm it plays Amazon Prime and Vudu in HD. I don't have an account with Netflix so I could not check it. The Vudu app shows that some of my movies in my wishlist are in UHD (4K). I did not check being I would have to pay for them.
Seems so bizarre to me that Google, Netflix, Amazon, etc., would be encouraging piracy by banning their paying customers from using the service. I'm honestly at a loss for words.
I had this issue on my Note 3, which can't pass SafetyNet as it's under my control, not Google's. When Netflix started requiring SafetyNet, I emailed for a confirmation. That was the end of our 9 year business relationship; I am no longer a customer.
I subscribed to YouTube Red, as (ironically) they still seem to value their engineering customers. However, should they follow suit, that business relationship will end as well, and I'll find someone else to spend my money with.
I know it can be tough, but I do encourage everyone affected by DRM to cancel their subscriptions, and take their business elsewhere.
If you do, just make sure you contact the company's Sales / Marketing team (definitely not tech support!). Explain to them in very clear, polite terms exactly why you'll be switching to their competitor, and that you'll be back if they ever decide to correct the situation.
I'm also completely stock (never been rooted etc) and exact same issues with Amazon Video.
Only thing that might cause issues is my ad blocker (Adclear), but having uninstalled that I have the same issue.
I'd be keen to know if you resolve as Google searches don't throw up much, and unfortunately the thread I started hasn't produced any solutions either!
So..... I was on the phone to Amazon support and was playing with my settings....
I use a "corner round" app to make the tablet screen more visually appealing - as soon as I disable it, Prime Video works!
So, if you have anything that creates a screen overlay, try disabling it and using Netflix / Prime video. Give it a try!
Best,
You guys know that huawei already made the update through OTA that netflix can run HD and prime video as well right?
