You can`t as you have a custom recovery, try updating with Kies but you will loose root (so reroot) or better yet buy Mobile Odin Pro and flash the new rom from www.sammobile.com/firmware and keep root

Unzip the file from sammobile, place the tar file on the external sd card. Open Mobile Odin and choose open file, select the tar file (firmware) and check all boxes in root and flash firmware. Done.

Hey guys, so I am rooted but with stock firmware, however I used Titanium to remove certain stock software, etc...
1)If I update via Kies, will it keep my current settings? or will it just flash a new rom altogether and erase everything?
2)Once I update, do I just go through the same steps I did to root my s3 the first time?
Thanks.

1). it will keep your current settings, app & data (because you not do "wipe cache" at OTA update), if you installing custom firmware (from stock to custom firmware, it will be need "wipe cache/factory reset in recovery mode, but this method doesnt applied on OTA update/KIES update), but i suggest to backup your data before upgrading..
2). yes, just root like you root at first time..

[Q] Update CWM on incorrect kernel

I am having a little bit of trouble trying to solve a problem with CWM. I rooted my phone earlier last year and decided to try some roms lately but I am now in a bad position as CWM is telling me I have a different kernel and I am unable to get the option to restore my previous rom backup. I keep hearing to use Odin which I previously used to root my phone, to update CWM in the kernel to the latest version. Normally when I update the kernel it is quite simple - just install from the zip on sd, but Odin is a complete mess to understand. I am probably approaching this incorrectly. What can I do to restore to my previous CWM backup?
Try using ROM Manager to flash CWM, this might solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply. Do I flash the CWM.zip (current version) as a rom in this app or do I use a different option?

ROM Manager - Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery - Samsung Galaxy S2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
That did not seem to work. Rom Manager stops working and after awhile it asks if I want to wait or stop the program.
Is there a way to get this to work through odin? I am unable to reset to the default firmware as some files are irretrievable now.

Do not use rom manager. Flash cf root kernel with odin and you'll have cwm recovery.

Cyanogen mod 9 on galaxy s3 locked my phone.

Hello,
This is my first time installing a custom rom and I hope i did everything right. I installed CM9 using the guide found on their wiki page and installed it successfully. But after installation i cannot get my sim card to work on the phone.
Recovery: ClockWorkMod
CM9: 9.0.0-i9300
Galaxy SIII international.
Thanks in advance

try reinstall a stock rom, check if everythings is fine then reinstall CM9
Thnx for the quick response
I think the problem isn't cm9, when I was trying to install the from I couldn't boot to the cwm recovery because I forgot to root my device. Then I rooted my s3 with cf something root kit and then my signals were gone. I have the international version so my phone should be factory unlocked so I thought I should install cm anyway cuz that might solve the problem. But it didn't. I really like cyanogenmod and don't want to revert back to crappy touchwizz . The problem was there before installing cm9 but after rooting my phone.
Please any help. I really need to use my phone.
Thnx

You should reinstall everything from the scratch mate, so revert your device at stock (using odin), then flash the correct [email protected] kernel and finally if everything is working flash cm9.
Edit: if your device is locked i think you can unlock it easily, search in the forum you can find out everything you need for this.

Download original firmware for your phone from sammobiles and flash it using odin. If is good then root it again and flash cm9.

Okay,
I have downloaded my firmware file but i noticed that i need three tar files for the flashing precess through ODIN but i downloaded only 1 file *.tar.md5
no clue now what to do
Update: I tried to extract the file using splitfus but it didnt work.
Update 2: Okay now I have Installed my stock firmware and it seems to be working now.. But should I risk installing the CM9 again ?

- launch Odin
- load that ONE FILE on PDA section
- put your phone in download mode (volume down+home+power)
- connect the phone to computer, wait for drivers to be installed and ODIN to find your phone (you will see a message in Odin)
- click start
- don't touch the phone until it's done. It will boot alone
Also, it might be a good idea to wipe data / reset to factory before and after flash.
You could find all this info with google ....
On the topic, I have a similar issue. My phone was factory unlocked , and got locked after flashing latest stock firmware. Downgrading didn't solved anything. I am searching the forums right now, but it seems like all fixes are dated.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, it will be appreciated.
Thx
Hey rsndetre,
Thnx for the post, but sorry I already did that and it worked ..
Here are the method I used to get back my device back to normal and got my sim card working and again reinstalled cm9
1- Downloaded Toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
2- Flashed Stock Boot Image
3- Flashed Stock Recovery Mode
4- Downloaded stock firmware from http://fus.nanzen.se/
5- Flashed stock firmware using Odin (your method above)
6- Rooted the device again (using odin and CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4)
7- Downloaded and placed cm9 and google apps package in SDCARD
8- Installed Rom Manager from Play Store.
9- Downloaded and Installed ClockWorkMod from rom manager and booted to recovery mode using RomManager
10- Then factory resetted, formatted the cache and installed the CM9 and GAPPS V11
Then my phone was good to go.
My phone is up and running, thanks rsndetre, Arsaw and TecQuality for your replies. I appreciate your time
Thanks
Muzammil Ahmed.

[Q] Kernel for nandroid backups? - JB 4.1.2 leak

I'm on the stock leaked ROM & kernel. I hear that Philz kernel has some added functionality but dodgy with nandroid backups. Can anyone confirm this? Are there any other kernels yet which are better for this?

apart from 'Philz' kernel no other Custom kernels will wrk with Stock JB leak ma8
OK thanks for that. Guess I'll have to wait. I really want to be able to do a nandroid backup in case things screw up and I have to spend ages restoring everything.
I never had problem with backups on Philz kernel. At least for me to do backup and restore working well.
Can't seem to install this! Just tried flashing the latest - PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSJ-OXX-3.70 - using Mobile Odin. It just reboots the phone and the kernel isn't flashed. Tried it twice with/without the md5 tag but didn't work either time. What am I doing wrong?

Well, it's rooted - not sure about properly. I flashed a file (posted on XDA) which rooted it after flashing the ROM. Everything appears to be rooted - Superuser, Busybox, etc
Problem is I can't use Odin cause I'm on a Mac so I have to use the mobile version.

Your rooted for sure, i also flash that update.zip on recovery, but the thing is you cant flash a kernel via mobileodin.. i dont have an experience of flashing fw,kernel on M .O,but i read somewhere many users experiencing issues when using that, thats why i prefer windows odin. im not saying dont use M.O.. but if you want a guaranteed flashing just used odin for windows.

OK cheers.
Just out of interest I just booted into recovery <3e> and I get an error message in red at the bottom:
"E:Failed to seek in /cache/update.zip )invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed"
I'm confused. Does this refer to the root "update.zip" or to the kernel which didn't flash?

Yes, I renamed it "update.zip" before moving it to the ex SD and flashing it.
When I try and flash Philz kernel, it selects OK in Mobile Odin but when I press "flash" the phone just reboots normally, not into recovery and the kernel isn't flashed.

[Q] help pliz i cant root or add officiel rom anymore

i have my galaxy s3 from orange england i unlock it and root it i conect it with kies i fine in kis a new update after this update i dont fine the cwm icon only SU icon a month after this i instal an officiel rom from sammobile i like it 4.1.2 one week after this i reinstal the same rom and now my mobile cant take updates from kies or odin and i cant root it !!
anyhelp please ????
sorry for my bad english im talking french ..
my galaxy is GT-I9300
is your device rooted? if it is you should just follow the instructions
1.hold volume up + home + power buttons to see the recovery mode
2.intsall zip from sd card (for a custom rom)
if you want the official rom just use odin
1.download odin
2.plug the device in download mode (volume down + home + power)
3.add the official rom in pda section then click the start
if you think u have a u should be clear
Not sure what you mean by odin updates. Odin doesn't do updates. You find a rom yourself and flash using odin. I'm pretty sure kies doesn't let you update rooted phones.
I suggest the same as above. Try installing a custom rom through recovery. You may have flashed unrooted official rom which means you have to root it again to get supersu back.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Well writing in understandable English would be a thing to start with.
You cannot update a phone trough kies when it is rooted. Kies will abort the update and give you a message which tells your device is rooted.
I would suggest you try to get into recovery mode and restore a nandroid backup.
If that's not working try flashing an official rom trough odin and root your phone again afterwards.
You could aswell go to a nearby orange shop and ask a salesman to restore the official firmware. (they have all the packages there ).
sorry
Sorry for my bad english i flash an officiel firemware In odin from sammobile now when i try to updat my s3 in kies i cant and also when i try to flash the last firemwar kies stop on get pit for mapping !!! Itry to change usp ports nothing work
Don't use kies. Just use odin to flash whatever firmware you need.
You won't be able to update using kies as your device status will be "modified". You need to unroot and factory reset to get it back to official.
As for not being able to root your device, flash xxella firmware from sammobile and flash siyah 1.8.7 kernel in cwm recovery. I can verify that definitely works.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Im trying the xxell1 but again odin stop on get pit for mapping ! nothing working
My guess is your pit partition is messed up. I suggest you search for a way to sort the pit mapping problem. I've seen some people recommend downloading a pit file from sammobile for your firmware.
Otherwise you'll have to send it off to repair centre.

The one you want to flash. I think they're all the same. This is an inference from the fact that we don't use pit files when flashing new firmwares under normal circumstamces.

[Q] Unroot + downgrade P7500 3G concerns

Hi, my P7500 3G is currently on a custom ROM running 4.4.2, and I would like to unroot it and downgrade back to 3.2 or 4.0.4 stock as I am planning to sell it off. But if I recall correctly, repartitioning was required when the jump to 4.2 was made. So how will this affect me if I am trying to downgrade it?
Thank in advance!
Just download the correct tar.md5 files from Sammobile and flash it using Odin then access stock recovery and perform a factory reset and reboot. You should be good to go, that's the way I downgrade my tab and I don't see any abnormalities.

As long as the stock rom and stock recovery files are correct, there should not be any issues? I will try to flash using ODIN for rom, previously tried to flash using cwm, but keep getting an error..
Yes as long as the files for the device are correct, go on and continue and CWM doesn't support tar.md5 and you may want to look at the deepsleep for the p7500 for a better battery life. Here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39906672

Just that all your files will be in a "0" folder because of the sdcard changes in 4.2. You would have to manually move them out of the 0 folder. But since you're planning to sell it, you can just wipe your internal memory in recovery.

Okay, just wanna let you guys know that I have successfully flash back to stock using ODIN. The first time I did it, the device was stuck at the Samsung logo. I waited until about 45 minutes and decided to force restart and enter recovery to wipe data and cache. After which, the device was able to boot successfully into Android.
Thank you for all your help!
