Hi!
For example, i cant install IM+ messenger from "sd-card", says:
Out of space
IM+ could not be installed.
Free up some space and try again.
Phone memory:
97MB used

Internal storage:
18GB free
Rom: KA11
Kernel: Xperia Sspeed Kernel 5
Where is the problem ?

Sometimes you can do something that messes up the memory. Make sure you have stuff backed up and reset the data on the phone. This should fix it.

Please more info. What ROM you use, what you installed and how you activated your Link2SD? Then we can find the solution to you or what you MUST do from now on.
CHEERS!
I think you using stock 2.3.3 or 2.3.4! Right? Download from Market(YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO USE IT) "Android terminal Emulator". Run it and type:
su
a2sd cachesdreset

I use 1 TAP cleaner to wipe out cache , but since last few days i see that much more "device memory" has been used by what i don't know !!
I uninstalled many less-used apps from the task manager yet the "free-memory" shown is not as much as it should be on the device !!
I also move many apps to SD using app2sd but still the device memory has not been freed as per my expectation !!
Am i missing something , help me out guys because out of the 1.97 GB available i have hardly 0.94 GB left as free memory on device !!
Just counted roughly & the downloaded apps account for about 150 MB , that's all !!
Am i missing a trick here ???
Try wiping dalvik cache in recovery. That takes up quite a bit of space in the data partition. Wiping it will rebuild it again and clear out some leftover bits from old apps (I suppose)

It's your app data that's probably hogging up all your storage. Try installing Storage Analyser and use that to find out what's taking up too much storage. I'm pretty sure Storage Analyzer can be installed on your sd.
Just downloaded storage analyzer but it only analyzes the SD !! Secondly my device is "not rooted" , is there still a way or is there an app available which shows "phone memory" analysis & a way to remove unnecessary cache ??
Can you give your device into first ?

What is wrong with having 0.94Gb left?
Take a look at that:

Have you rooted your phone or not ??
I've done some research, but haven't found what I'm looking for. To cope with the memory limitation of my phone, I move some apps to Rom with titanium explorer. Does the rom use the rom partition free space for something? Writting cache, and so on? I have a Xperia J and a X10 mini pro, and they both have around 20 Mb of free space on the ROM. Is it ok? Is there a "safe threshold"?
Thanks

ROM is actually installed on /system partition, and by default its mounted as R/O (Read-Only). So cache won't be written inside /system partition and it will be stored in phone's internal memory. The ROM free space remains free like that which is unused space.

Not sure what did you mean by it, but if its about RAM then its completely different.

Thanks for you answers. Coolsandie actually answered what I really wanted to know: as system partition is a read-only partition, it doesnt write anything to it, so i can add apps to it as long as there's free space. Thanks

From my experience i can tell you that 650mb is not enough for the update. You need around 250mb just for the system to work properly. I could not even install any apps if i had less then aprox. 250mb, beacuse it was asking me to free more space, so i could install something. So i think you need more than 650. Free up more space. Try to uninstall a few apps, until you have around 800-900mb free space, than try to update and if you manage to do it, than just install again the apps you removed before.
"650 MB free storage for update" means you need 850 MB free storage for phone to operate.
