S3 keeps rebooting - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
running on 4.0.4 for mideast, was working fine then y'day the phone app crashed 3 times. I wasn't able to make a call one time. Restarted and worked fine. This morning it just started to restart, and kept restarting from the samsung logo, didn't properly restarted.
I removed the battery, and it was fine for some time and then began the whole restarting circle all over again!
Any help appreciated!

Give more details. Did you do any firmware upgrades or any custom ROMs?

I'm running official firmware.

Or any apps you installed yesterday? Is your phone rooted?

nope! did not install anything at all in the past 2 days.

If you haven't done so. Backup your files and factory reset.

Finding which app is making my sg2 reboot?

Hi, I was having issues w my sg2 randomly rebooting so backed up my apps the wiped it and haven't had issues since but of course that leaves me app-less. Is there a way/app that I can log and see which app is rebooting my sg2?
Cheers

Easiest and best way would be to wipe everything and re-install your apps (I mean re-download and install, NOT restoring a backup since that's likely to cause FCs and reboots)
Recently I have had the same issue my phone randomly rebooting. Have noticed it only happens when I come back from work. Never happened while I was out, the only thing I can think of is reconnecting to my home wifi.
Will need to do more test to see if that is the case thou.

An app shouldn't be able to make your phone reboot (at least, a non-root app). The most common cause of random reboots is bad OC/UV settings. If you're running at stock clocks and voltages, on stock ROM/kernel, then you almost certainly have a hardware problem and should try to get a warranty repair if you can.
Dolphin HD has always been the cause in my experience.

Just a thought

There may be a crafty sneeky covert app causing the problem!! did you have any ninja games installed?
Well, my phone is rooted so that is a possibility (that maybe its s root app). I will focus on those

I have an external SD and have many apps on it. I was sure that all apps could move to SD. But had a random reboot.
Took out the SD card and the reboots disappear and as as soon as I put back the memory, it reoccurs again.
First I though it was the chip pushing against the battery and causing to reboot.
But after moving the apps back from SD to Phone (and many uninstalled) and reformat it, the reboots are gone.

when my phone was rooted i found it rebooted itself when i had usb debugging turned off, when i turned it back on the reboots stopped.
Possibly Dolphin Hd, if you installed it.

Settings app not opening

I've noticed that in the last couple of days, the Settings app doesn't work properly. At times, when I open the app, it just opens for a second and goes back to the home screen. After some time, the problem goes away on its own. Sometimes, taking out the battery and rebooting the device helps. Sometimes, it doesn't work. Anybody help me out here?

I am not really sure but this might be happening due to a virus or malware. Which RoM are you using?

Stock Gingerbread. 2.3.4!
Try installing any free antivirus and scan your phone. I recommend Netqin

It can also happen if you apply a wrong patch, or flashed something that was not supposed to be flashed on a stock ROM.

No viruses, never flashed or patched anything! :|
maybe because cache is full, can make phone become crazy sometimes.
moreover u said ur on full stock rom without any modification. pure stock rom stores cache in phone memory and it'll be full and cluttered overtime.

Try a factory reset in the first instance.
That seemed to do the trick
Very good

[Q] My phone is randomly restarting?

Hello, I was browsing with Google Chrome on the SGS3 when all of a sudden it reset(which is not uncommon...seems to be a Chrome thing), and when the lockscreen came back up the LED flashed blue, and the screen went blank. 5ish seconds later, the lockscreen reappears, I have no service (literally the circle with a line through it) and after a few seconds I get the blue LED flash and the cycle repeats. For almost 10 minutes straight now. I have not tried to get into recovery mode, but I have removed/reinstalled the battery.
Any ideas or suggestions?
The only thing I can think of is that it was in a backpack on a hiking trip today and got very hot. It wasn't in use during that time though, and I hadn't seen any errors with it for at least 6 hours afterward until this happened.
More info, I have stock everything. Touchwiz launcher, etc...
Backup and factory reset

...just did. Sadly, I did not have a way to backup anything because it was in the reset loop (or whatever you'd call that)
What could have caused it? Is it an issue with the stock ROM? I have custom ROMs on all my other phones, I was waiting until the SGS3 development matured a bit before I dove in, but now I'm not so sure that waiting is a good idea...
Maybe caused by apps that you installed.

Samsung s2 crashing

Just flashed resurrection, but I have been having this problem for awhile. My phone will start up fine, then while updating facebook or downloading apps. The phone shuts down instantly. I tried to reboot but gets stuck in boot screen. I have to recharge the phone and try again. When phone is charged, I'll reboot and have to try several times to get to the lock screen. During this time my battery will how erratic battery voltage readings. Any ideas?

Does it happen on full stock? Stock ROM, stock kernel (root while you flash it using mobile doing pro if you like), but don't use a custom kernel. See how you go.

Thanks, it does it on both stock and custom rom. I conceded and bought an s4. Thank you for your help.
