Modifying PRL, s-on, hboot 1.5? - HTC EVO 3D

So first off, I normally just lurk here, gleam info and post answers where I can. Right now I'm in a bind and am hoping you can help me out, even if just posting links. I had to leave home suddenly yesterday and went to a place that is in the middle of a solid green area for 3G coverage for Sprint. However, I'm lucky if my speedtest results show 100Kb down. That makes extremely difficult for me to search for answers, and very time consuming to download files/apps only to find out they don't work. Also, the connection is apparently poor enough I can't access my work's VPN and thus poses a major problem.
I used OpenSignal to figure out where the nearest Sprint tower is (there's only one) and I'm only getting 18% signal. I would like to switch over to Verizon just for a couple days. I found some tutorials online but am running into the issue that, while I've done the HTC unlock, since I still have s-on I can't use apps like MSL Reader. The only way I've found to get s-off is to brick it, so I haven't gone that route yet.
I found this writeup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529274 and want to make sure that is still the best method. I've downloaded QPST and the 0002 PRL. I'm ready to follow the instructions but if for some reason it doesn't work, I'll loose my connection to the internet and not be able to search for answers.
Would someone please confirm that's the best route? If it's not, a link to a better solution would be greatly appreciated. I spent a ton of time already just trying to get pdanet (which is finally installed and working.)
Thanks in advance.

Not sure how long you have been with sprint, but these speeds have been normal on sprint 3g for over a year now. It's ridiculous that Sprint hasn't fixed this yet.

You can get your MSL from Sprint. You can try calling, but I find that chat is the most effective. Sprint doesn't like to give the MSL out, but the chat reps are all from India and are easily persuaded. Just tell them that another rep told you to get the MSL so you can reprogram your phone.

Post 3 in that thread is what I use to change mine. We used to be able to do it right from the phone by dialing ##775#, but since ICS was released we can't do this anymore. Just be aware that you probably will need to enter your msl and not the 000000 that the steps say.
As long as you don't change anything other than the prl, you won't have anything to worry about. Just make sure you Read from Phone, browse for the prl file, and Write to Phone, and nothing else. If you want to go back to a sprint prl, you can get one from that thread, or just go to your phone settings, System Updates, and update PRL AND Profile, and you will be back to sprint. Or you can just Write to Phone one of the Sprint prl's from that thread, just make sure it's one for the Evo 3d and not another phone.
Any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks much. I've been with sprint for ~10 years... 3G usually isn't this bad for me, but I live in a wimax area so I don't notice 3G a whole lot. I wouldn't be surprised if a class action lawsuit comes of this. Obviously one of the ways of limiting data is to control bandwidth... and that's what sprint is doing, yet advertising "unlimited data".
I'm trying very hard not to have to call Sprint, but I might just have to do that. I've been working on this for the last 5hrs straight. Biggest hurdle is getting the MSL. getprop ril.MSL didn't work. I can't get CDMA Workshop installed - every time I extract the RAR it has an unexpected end of archive. I've downloaded it on two different systems (OS X and XP), tried multiple extractors (unrarx and winrar)... same outcome.
I'm glad that just using the phone's UI to update the PRL will reset it to Sprint. One of my issues is the steps in that thread to pull the PRL don't produce a .r0l file. But now I think I'll just ignore that.
Thanks again.

Thus far, I haven't been able to get the MSL from Sprint. They're telling me they don't even have access to it
Finally got CDMA workshop extracted... crashes on boot on both my XP and Win7 VMs...

If you are unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery using fastboot, then flash superuser using your custom recovery and then MSL Reader will work.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2

I finally got someone at Sprint to give me the MSL number. Used it and successfully updated the PRL.
Unfortunately, with 0002 my signal was actually worse. ~1000ms ping, 60Kb... Then, a few minutes later it switched itself back to Sprint. I thought it was supposed to stay with Verizon. Will have to keep trying.

Well, I did the HTC unlock but, unless I'm mistaken, that doesn't really do anything. I can't get s-off without bricking it and following that process. I haven't done it yet as I haven't had time to research just what bricking it takes. I have (well, mostly watched a friend) root a EVO 4G... that was a lot easier.

Hmm, it might be a problem with your phone's radio. In my area, 80% of the places I use the Verizon prl, I get 5-6 out of 6 bars. Since Verizon uses a better frequency, it's much easier to get a full signal especially inside buildings. Speeds for me on Verizon average 1500kbps or so. It's pathetic that I can get these speeds on Verizon and not get above 100kbps on Sprint even with full signal.

If you are unlocked (but still s-on), you can flash custom recoveries and ROMs (and mods and themes). You just cannot update radios, firmware, and hboots without first relocking and going stock. If you are s-off, you can. Have you heard of the wire trick to obtain s-off? It takes most people like five minutes once they are setup and does not require you to brick. Having said that, I downgraded by bricking since that was the only option at the time and it was pretty straightforward.

I just nandroid back to GB ROM & do the ##775#, change my prl & nandroid back. Running 00002 on cm9 now.

I was finally able to try out several PRLs... turns out the nearest Verizon tower I can connect to is actually farther away and slower than Sprint's. There's a new Verizon tower that's nearby, but none of the PRLs I tried (eg 00001, 00002, 01337-mod...) would connect me to it.

Ohhh, for some reason I was thinking I couldn't flash recoveries with s-on. Can I use tools like superuser, setCPU... with s-on?
I haven't heard of the wire trick. I had been planning on following this guide when I had some time http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695 but if you know of one that takes 5 minutes, please let me now where I can find it. (I'll search for it too.) Hopefully it doesn't require CDMA Workshop because on both systems I've tried (XP and Win7) it crashes on startup.
Edit: Ok, I found it. Will look into it more when I have enough bandwidth to watch video.

I started to do that, but it just takes WAY too long to do all that. It's much quicker to do with QPST on a computer. However I will do that once in a while if I'm stuck away from a computer and need to switch PRLs.

Yea, the 0001 prl is a few years old, and the 00002 one is probably over a year old now. Hopefully someone will make a new one.

Updated tutorial on Touch Pro Sprint->Verizon?

I can't seem to find an up-to-date tutorial on performing this process. I found some from mid-2009, but people are commenting that *228 doesn't work, this thing doesn't work anymore, that thing doesn't work anymore. Has anyone done this process recently?
I am trying to get this phone onto Verizon without a data plan since I will just be using wifi.
As far as I know, Sprint phones are GSM, VrzWls are CDMA. Totaly different frequencies. It is impossable (without an enginering degree and a lot of solder) to make one work on the others towers.

There are a lot of people on these forums that have done it - I just can't find concise up-to-date directions.
have you tried loading a verizon prl on the phone? i have my sprint tp on pageplus, which is a verizon mvno, and it wouldn't program ota until i loaded the prl.
I have not tried loading anything yet. I am still looking for directions that are not from 2008. Also, I have no interest in custom roms at this point. I simply want the Sprint phone to work on the Verizon with the least amount of work.

Step 1. Grab your phone and take it to a Verizon store to have it activated on their network...
End of subject
There are other things that you can do manually, but since the only thing you are interested in is to have the phone working for a different carrier, then that is all you need to do.

The only true part about Thelgord's statement is that Verizon is a CDMA network. Please don't pay attention at anything else in that statement.

HTC EVO 3D With Page Plus . Slow download upload speeds reguardless of signal.

I tried to post this question on what looks to be the official HTC evo 3d to page plus walk thru , but it said I did not have enough posts to reply so maby someone can move it over.
just to be clear it was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575749 that was what i followed.
Basically I went thru all the steps I found off this sites pageplus tutorial and used the basic pageplus.prl file and I can call / text / and use internet, but no matter if I have 1 or 4 bars I seem to be in a 15kb/sec download cap. I have read on other posts on here to do a ##3282# but when I type that in it does nothing. (some replays I have read indicate that it would be most likely that the proxy is already set to 0.0.0.0 and not to worry about that.
I don't live in a area where they have 3g and of course I'm not trying to get 4g, I just want decent evdo 1x speeds.
*Maby the better bet might to be get a verizon smart phone? but if at all possible I would like to get at least double the speed on this HTC for now.
I just do not know what would be the best alternative to try to swap out to get better speeds.
Below are my specs on my phone and I have a feeling that just a different prl file might be the answer, but I want to ask before I go possibly breaking something.
I used the pageplus.prl file that was off this website in a pageplus zip folder which had 2. (pageplus.prl and pageplus2.prl)
I did not try the pageplus2.prl because I do not want to go doing things without a good reason.
P.S. the reason I'm very cauccious about trying anything new is because when I did a *228 Verizon wrote over my prl files and when phone rebooted it said no service. So I do not want to do anything that would require me to do a *228 in the future.
My phone specs are.
HTC EVO 3d
nocturnal blackend
Android 2.3.4
HTC Sense Verison
3.0
Software Number
Nocturnal Version 0.0.3
I did do some leg work. I found a newer prl file named 00002.prl. I updated it to that and when phone turned back on it said 3g , so maby I do have 3g in my area, bad news is - no internet. So does anyone have a good link on how to alter settings to try to get internet working? I think this may be the key to getting faster internet!

Ive read that on non verizon phones there some "keys" or strings that make verizon phones faster speeds than sprint?
any suggestions at all?
Nevermind. Its working now.
Is there something you did to get it working? I had no answers or I would have helped, but for future users, what you did would be helpful.

I took it to friend and he's got the full version of cdma workshop on his laptop he bought it and took a course, and what it was , was there was no profile 2 for prl or it wasnt set correct. at all so he had to manually add that in he said. Flash my Photon to Revol?

Okay I have searched entire site and no information what so ever. So here goes.
I have a Motorola Photon - Rooted thanks to forums.
There is a wireless service here in Ohio with CDMA phones called Revol Wireless with a month-to-month unlimited talk/text/web plan. But their phones are trash and are allowing other CDMA phones to be flashed to their service.
Corner stores all over columbus, with cell phone vendors inside, are flashing Sprint phones with bad ESN's to Revol Wireless.
I took my phone in ti multiple stores. Revol supports the Motorola Photon but wants to charge me $40-$60 JUST for the flashing service on top of the inital $50 monthly service fee.
Now, if I wanted to spend $100+ on a new phone I would just hit craigslist for a GSM unlocked.
Does ANYONE here know HOW I can do this without having to pay some over priced carry-out?
I can provide little information to get you started on the how-to...
Here is what you will need:
Rooted Android
USB data cable
Android drivers
HW Virtual Serial Port
CDMA Workshop 2.7 or 3.x higher
I have seen there is a simple "One click process" through software called Houdinisoft but they also charge a ridiculous amount of money for even a 1 time key.
But all over the internet I see people (those who know what they're doing) doing this process manually with no fee's.
Please help me save some money. -_-

To make the phone work on there network all you really need to do is flash their prl to your phone and have them add your esn to their network. That's all that is really necessary. You can find plenty of info on prl flashing. It may be tough to find their prl. I think if you just get your phone to roam on their network with the esn added you can *228 to update it?

It's a little more involved than that, but getting the prl on the phone will make talk and text work.. But that's about it. If you've never flashed a phone to another carrier and cant follow a tutorial online you might as well pony up the cash and have someone else do it. I've done lots of sprint and verizon phones flashed to cricket and it can be time consuming depending on the phone. A tutorial online to flash to cricket would be very similiar to what carrier you're trying to flash to, but you are gunna need all the carrier specific information for you Revol. I've never heard of them.

[QUERY] EVO 4G LTE stuck on 1x

Well to start with, I am from India and used many handsets with Reliance CDMA. In past, I have used Palm Pre and Pixi, HTC EVO, EVO 3D, Samsung Fascinate, Epic 4G touch, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, etc. All handsets were fully configured to work for Voice, SMS and 3G/Evdo data.
Background:
To get any device running on my network, the MEID has to be registered with the network, PRL to be uploaded, PPP and HDR user/pass has to be injected and it starts working. Procedure remain different from one device to another but majorly the above has to be done.
My network has Rev:a EVDO service besides 1x.
The problem:
The problem is with EVO 4G LTE is that I am not able to getting Evdo/3G signals.
Observations:
As soon as I turn on the phone, the network starts to show 1x-RTT instead of EvDo-rev.A:8 which appears on my other phone. The place where I am is well covered by EVDO/3G network so I dont think problem from that side. .
What I tried:
1. Correctly configuring the user/pass using DFS and QPST.
3. Uploading RCDMA PRL using CDMA WS, QPST and DFS.
4. Downgrading radio version for all available radios.
Earlier I felt that due to radio version, the problem is arising but I have tried with all the radio versions but the problem is still there. So now I feel that due to something is preventing the phone to connect with EvDo network.
Looking forward to you guys to diagnose and solve the issue!
Few screenshots:
These are screenshots from 2 phone, left one is mine which is stuck on 1x and the other one is fascinate which has Evdo working. Let me know if something can me made out of it. (My Country code is 404 00)
Any help guys....

I have confirmed once again from my service providers and my line is working fine, so something is wrong with the phone only. Guys, please help me.
Have you tried ##SCRTN# ? Type that into your dial pad. You will need to know your MSL, which you can get by downloading an MSL reader from google play.
If that doesn't work then try unrooting and relocking your phone. If it's still a no go, then take your phone to a Sprint S&R store. Make sure it's at least relocked before you take it because they will most likely want to try flashing the phone with their RUU which it needs to be locked to do.
If that doesn't work for them then they will need to replace it because it's most likely a hardware issue. If you don't pay for TEP then you'll have to pay $35+tax to have them do that.
Have you gone into the dialer settings and changed the frequency to either of the two options? If so, you need to be on the PCS band where Sprint gives their 3G. It's normally on automatic but after changed, it is NOT easy to get back to automatic.

Unfortunately, I am not on Sprint. I want to understand how can there be a hardware fault when the radio works well on 1x but not on 3G? Also, all other things are working fine for me.
Seems very illogical to me!

This might sound stupid, but try flashing some older PRLs,, in my case, for whatever reason, I get faster 3G speeds on an older PRL

Tried that also. We have 2 PRL for which EVDO is enabled and I tried both.

[Q] Phone Behaving as if De-Activated after DirtyRacun S-Off

Hello all,
First post on XDA; I've been searching for this issue for the past 4 hours, and found very little. I hope I haven't missed anything.
Long Story
Had a rooted phone, tried to flash JellyBAM; worked, except that kernel got messed up (touchscreen didn't work). Problem remained even after restoring HTC Sense. I assumed it was b/c my phone still had S-ON.
After successfully running DirtyRacun on my Evo 4g LTE, I flashed JellyBAM 7.6.2 (using TWRP 2.4.4.0, wiped Dalvik, Cache, Factory Reset & System first). Everything worked fine, except that there is no mobile network whatsoever. When booting JellyBAM, it prompts me to activate my phone:
"A special call needs to be made to activate your phone service. After pressing 'Activate', listen to the instructions provided to activate your phone."
I do this, but the problem is that I get an automated message: "Your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number. If you would like to have additional capabilities added to your account, please call Customer Service."
This is the same message I get trying to make any phone call. Nothing (data, calls, etc) works on the mobile network now. I called Sprint to see if they could simply de-active then reactive my phone, but it appears to them as already activated. The tech I spoke w/ thinks I may have deleted the Sprint programming.
This sounds plausible, but what's REALLY WEIRD is that *2 still dials Sprint perfectly, and holding 1 still tries to check voicemail. So clearly some aspects of it connect with Sprint still. I have no idea what's messed up, unfortunately.
I don't believe JellyBAM is the culprit here, b/c after DirtyRacun but before flashing JellyBAM, I still had this problem.
Helpful Info
Android Version: 4.2.2
Radio Version: 1.12.11.1119
Kernel version: 3.0.73-g5d13a2c
JellyBAM 7.6.2
Question
Is there anything I can do to fix this so that my phone can reconnect with and use Sprint's mobile network? I'd really like to preserve JellyBAM, S-Off, and Root, given the amount of time and effort it took to get those working. Thank you so much, any help would be greatly appreciated.
First, try updating your radio.
I'd say to RUU back to stock and see if the problem persists. If it does then take it to Sprint and they should give you a replacement if you have the YEP. I had a similar but not so screwey situation, a few actually, like yours and when I lost all network Sprint replaced my phone. I've always had success dialing my voicemail after attempted activations and then my phone would kick back in within about 15 minutes while keep texting and calling my home phone.

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate the help.
I updated my radio, which went smoothly, but unfortunately it didn't work. What's frustrating is that I don't even know what the problem is. I know it isn't the ROM I flashed (since it had the same problem on HTC Sense before I flashed JellyBAM). It seems to have started after DirtyRacun S-Off process.
I'm still pretty noob so I don't know what else besides radio it could be. I'm really reluctant to try and restore my phone to stock due to the amount of time I spent learning to root and S-Off it. Wouldn't want that to be in vain, though I might not have a choice at this point.
Is there something I should try next?

Before calling sprint, Google the 4g lte dialer codes, I'm sure there is one that activates the wireless reactivation process (that was the case with my old gs3)

I know after achieving S-off, I had to call Sprint due to a security issue. I couldn't make calls or anything.
It was painless and took all of 5 minutes.
