Okay guys, I have an HTC Evo 3D CDMA that is somewhat unusable. All I did was root the phone and in a few days the phone just wouldn't start up. It gets stuck on the HTC logo. I've tried getting it into download mode to flash a new stock firmware (but it didn't want to), I've tried to put the .zip stock firmware file onto the sd card to "install zip from sd card", I've tried to put the update file on the sd card to install it through "hboot", and even factory resetting it, but it still would get stuck on the logo and fail to boot up. I've tried just about everything I can think of, or find on the internet. Any other suggestions or solutions?

Were you able to reflash a kernel or the stock ROM?
I couldn't flash ANYTHING. -_-

I made the mistake of flashing one of the stock roms derived from RUU which was a big mistake since it flashed the hboot I no longer have revolutionary which lead me to not being able to fastboit anything. I can get the adb to.connect to the device while in recovery with system mounted. but that's pretty much it. If i install a custom ROM when I reboot revolutionary will see device but not ling enough to.root and install the drivers. Just setup your pc to use fastboot otherwise you might do the same thing I did. After two days of searching trying different things my fix was going and buying a new phone last night.

If you relocked your phone "fastboot oem lock" and installed a stock RUU, this should have brought your phone back to stock. This wasn't the case?

When you root your phone, never accept updates unless you unroot your phone and go back to stock. Are you on hboot 1.5? I would suggest finding a rom that you want to flash (I recommend Myn's warmtwopoint3 RLS1 Deodex). To do this go into fastboot USB and load the custom recovery in the folder you downloaded to root your phone "fastboot boot recovery.img" (recovery.img should be replaced with the name of the CWM***.img file in that folder. This will give you full access to write the kernal and install the rom). Your issue is only likely kernal related so unless you do what I just mentioned, you wont have access to write a new kernal.

Agreed. Sounds like a kernel issue to me.

Does it still show hboot 1.4? According to the instructions, after the PG86IMG.zip installs, you need to go into fastboot and type "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3"
I think your probably just doing something wrong. Pull your battery out, put it back in, hold down volume button and power to boot into bootloader. Explain to me what you see. You should see fastboot on the top and you should be able to press the power button to enter fastboot and when you plug in your phone it will show fastboot usb. If this isnt happening I'm very curious as to what is.

Thanks for the help everyone!
Hi everyone. The only reason why I wrote this status was because I rooted the phone for someone, and gave it back to them in working order. Then about a week later, they came back to me with that problem and I tried to fix it. But with no success as I stated above. They threatened to sue me or take me to small claims for this problem which i didn't even start. Talk about assholes. Anyways, they gave me the option of paying them 350 which is half of what they bought the phone for, or having me try to fix it. If I do fix it, no need to pay, but if I don't then I'd have to pay the full price which is 700. So I've decided to just pay them the 350 to shut their mouth, get my ass out of trouble, and get on with my life.
So yea, I guess I won't be needing this thread anymore. I really want to try fixing it to save me money, but I don't want to risk it. And yea, I know how much of an asshole they're being. But oh well, shows what kind of people they are.
Were you paid initially for services rendered, when first "working" on the phone? Did you make mention any guarantee/warranty for "work" performed? At any time was this person/persons aware of such forum/s which clearly express "do this at your own risk"?

Anytime your altering anything on anyone's phone always run them through the normal disclaimer. Make certain that they understand that you take ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY for any damage that might be caused by what THEY want you to do. **** happens sometimes and and you gotta cover your ass. This is why every Rom, Radio/firmware updates, themes and guides have the same disclaimer.

Just read the OP again. You only rooted the phone, didn't install a custom ROM? Also, after rooting it, the person whom you rooted the phone came to you after a week, not a day or two? In that time frame who knows what they tried to do. Also, someone mentioned a kernel issue as the most likely culprit. Are you able to get into recovery, volume down + power/recovery? Can you get to the bootloader/HBOOT screen? If you get anything other than just the bootloader screen, you may still salvage it. Any progress?

Did you check the SD card for anything that you didn't put on there? Sounds like you were scammed to me. Give me half now or try to fix it and if you can't you have to pay me full. Something doesn't sound right with that. Sounds like they didn't want to give you enough time to dig to deep into the phone. Did you check to see if it was even the same phone? Did you charge them for this service originally? What was the reason why they wanted root access?

That was the mistake I made, by NOT telling them that. Which is why I have absolutely NOTHING to cover my ass. Which is the reason why I'm going to pay for it to get out of this mess.

I don't have the phone with me right now. Which is why I can't try anymore repairs. And I'm not going to in case it fails, then I'll have to pay full price.

I don't remember what I did and didn't put on there. So I can't use that as a way to back myself up. And I honestly started thinking that it is a scam, but again, it is kind of is my fault for not taking extra precautionary measures to protect myself in the event that this thing happens. Yes, I did charge for the service. And they didn't say why they wanted it rooted. And even if they are scamming me, I'm just glad it happened sooner so that I could learn from it and prepare myself for the future. As for the money, I am bummed that I have to pay them, but God knows who's the better person and what kind of people they are so I'll let God deal with them.
I have the same issue, sort of. A friend brought me his Evo 3D for me to work on.
My friend 'rooted' his Evo3D through some steps up on youtube that claims root for the 1.5 hboot with S-ON. He then later DL Rom Manager and flashed the freEVO ROM. Now its only useful for WIFI, connected media/google talk/phone dialer/contacts do not work, they all say 'Could not launch the requested activity.'. I have tried factory resetting but it resets to the same issue, cant flash any other rom since there is no actual recovery.
Any ideas on how I can make this thing work

How is it bricked? Are you able to get into hboot or recovery. Never mind I read back.

Hboot 1.5
JoelZ ics asop rom
i was trying to change fonts using a font installer app
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...-MznBQ&usg=AFQjCNGA5Oax1qBBGwpnMYpvc_ZNbeTgXw
and since the third time i rebooted to install a new font my phone has been stuck o splash screen .
Anyway to fix?
Try wiping caches.
I would try a wipe maybe the font won't take or something got screwed up kernel wise which would cause it to hang...
now it wont turn on at all . Further inspecton into this app and i have came to the conclusion it was this app some user have had their phone bricked from this app .
I have sprint insurance will they cover this?for A REPLACEMENT?
As these guys said try wiping caches and then if that doesn't work going to have to try just reflashing the ROM without the font change.

Just flash another recovery with adb..
Phone isn't messed up lol. Use the same recovery you were using just put a copy of it where adb is.
Then plug phone in
start adb
and tell it to
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img should work....
From the sounds of things I don't know how.... It seems like whatever you did wiped out your recovery.... So all you need to do is flash a new one... Also you could try to relock your phone...
Then run a Ruu 2.17 exe that would fix you up lol.....
If your CDMA and on hboot 1.5... If you can't get another recovery to flash over... Just relock your phone and download the RUU exe and run it from hboot will fix you up...
I did the exact same thing with that app and rom, just went into recovery from bootloader and wiped cache and delvic cache and reflashed the rom, you might have to fastboot into recovery from the bootloader though because of hboot 1.5
If you can't even boot it into Bootloader, run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU).

I would keep a orignal copy of the working rom....
Then if something goes wrong try to go to recovery and wipe everything and see if ADB will find your phone it should..... Then just flash the working rom via fastboot boot recovery.img
As long as ADB finds your phone and recovery works you have it made... It's when adb can't find your device and your recovery isn't working that you may need to relock your phone ....
Then run that RUU make sure to relock it tho before you run it......

My data is.working tonight! Anyway....
If u rooted and installed a recovery before, it seems like you should be able to do it again unless u left out some info.
I have some step by step examples (scenarios) for loading a recovery & flashing roms on unlocked hboot 1.5 that may help you. See my signature.

Lol, I guess I'm stepping on some coat tails. I'll eventually run out of my 2 cents.
Just seems like a lot of the basic how to root with hboot 1.5 / recovery / Rom flashing posts need updated with current links & some more details to help prevent all the same questions being repeated. Some of those stickied posts havent been updated in 3 or months & some of the original posters have moved on to other phones already.
I can almost just repost one of the 2 same hboot 1.5 posts over & over...
- HTC unlock Stuck at step 13 = redownload & flash current / latest Ruu
- can't flash rom/recovery = see Issues thread in signature for detailed "scenarios".

Log of what happened:
Have Fourth Bar ROM 3.0. With S-,ON un-locked bootloader.
Re-Lock bootloader with all in one tool
Flash ICS leak.
Works, become happy.
Attempt to root it.
Unlock bootloader. Flash CWM recover v5.0.2.6
Grab SU file, put it in old SD card. Put it in old ROOT folder. Flash SU. See that CRT animation and battery percentage zip are in folder from Fourth Bar's previous version. Impulsively flash them.
Phone stuck on infinite bootloop. Immediately regret decision.
Flash previous recoveries. Nothing. Go into XDA search, find "[GUIDE] Recovering from a Soft Brick (Stuck on HTC Screen)"]
Both links are dead. Find this stock ROM, wipe, data/factory reset, wiped cache partition, flash, still suck at bootloop.
Give it to me straight guys, is it.. is it bricked?

A bricked phone is one that doesn't turn on. If you are able to get to recovery you are fine.
My advise, reflash the ICS rom. When you flashed the battery percentage tweak you changed your framework-res.apk file, which is unique to the rom it is made for. You flashed an older framework-res.apk file on a newer and completely different ICS rom, causing it not to boot.
Just reflash ICS. Also, the stock rom you linked is Gingerbread, which will also bootloop on the newer radio, or so I have seen/heard.
This seems like it would solve the problem.
But the battery is dead on power and it won't let me re-charge with the amaze off.
You're going to have to find an external charger or someone else with the same phone to get it charging.
Thought as much :/
Placed an order for anker. Might as well right?
Will post back if it backfires.
Just curious, y did u flash cwm 5.0.2.6 rather that ext4 or touch cwm? Lol then u would be able to charge your phone. Try leaving the phone on the charger over night, it may be charging it in short pulses bcuz of bad recovery so getting any kind of charge will talke alot of time. Once u get charged, relock bootloader and reflash ruu

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Stock recovery PG05IMG.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/PG05IMG-Stock-Recovery.zip
Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone
Thank you for posting the file, life got in the way yesterday. Hope that fixes your situation!

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

Right. I also have a recovery zip that installs the stock recovery if anyone wants it?
It can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/OTARestoreAndRecovery.zip
(warning: I have tested it and it works but it did cause me a bootloop, and im assuming this is becuase im on a different rom - - - so not responsible for any damages)

Have you tried an ruu?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
i just upgraded to 2.2.1 and now my phone keeps rebooting when i try to do anything with system (wipe or write a new rom). phone continually rebooting, if my current rom tries to load phone reboots again.
when i plug in light does not come on...
any ideas or is this thing dead? i can still get into recovery and have some battery life just not sure what to do... already reflashed recovery
seems like my /system/ is hosed not sure how to fix if possible
tried nandroid restore.. it reboots
tried to reflash existing.. it reboots
i can still get into recovery though but if i do anything with 'system' it reboots
any ideas how to get that fixed or probably have to replace? i cant even overwrite my custom boot logo. ugh lol
Try relocking the bootloader, then fast boot the ruu

thanks im downloading the RUU..
How exactly did you update to the newest base?
Figured I would update this thread in hopes of helping someone else if they get stuck here.
I had upgraded to the new base with PJ75IMG and that went well - had used other ROMs on that new base.
What had happened was I was flashing venom on TWRP 2.2.0 and it rebooted phone when it hit system (why system was damaged in first place not sure, i had just rebooted into recovery).
I had to oem lock, ruu, oem unlock (even though it said s-off for lazypanda it was not working) and then i was able to re-flash twrp (this time pushed 2.2.1 through fastboot).
I've put a lot of evo's in bad spots but the behavior I saw on this was new for me.. Anything I touched 'system' from twrp or if my rom tried to load, phone would cycle. Light would NOT go on when plugged in.
Either way rocking new rom and am good! thanks guys
