Camera doesnt work, tried several solutions, please help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
My camera is not working, when I open the camera app the flashlight go on, and the camera app freezes, all the touch functions of the camera dont respond and the screen goes black. I tried change several rooms, clean wipes, downloaded others camera.apk and cameras from the Play Store, but nothing works. When that happens I need to reboot the phone or wait some time to the flashlight go off. Now I am using Checkrom V7 in android 4.0.4. If I tried to use the flashlight only, the same problem happens, the flashlight wont go off and freezes the app.
Anyone have any ideia/solution for the problem?
Thank you!

If you did change ROM's and tried different kernels and did all the 3 wipes, it sounds like you have a hardware problem.

Hi,
I already tried CM10 kernel, Siyah, Dream, samsung original rom, nothing works. I also tried today the new version of RR, 3.0.4, but nothing.

UP

anyone?

Does it work on stock ROM?
Odoslané z GT-I9100 cez Tapatalk 2

Mmm all i can suggest is what I would try. Install a stock ROM with full wipes as before but also format the system. If it's a software bug this should fix it as it's a clean installation. All the best.

Hi, I tried the full wipe with forma system, but that didnt work, and the stock rom also doesn`t work :crying:
Maybe if I send it to tech assistence they can check if it is a hardware problem?
Thanks!

Hi, still no solution, anyone got any ideas?

If it doesn't work with stock ROM then send it to service centre.

Maybe you don´t download RR room completed, download again and review if MB is completed, do wipe Data (factory reset), and cache y dalvik wipe, in mounts and storage: format system, format cache, format data.
Reinstall teh room and no install anyone apk.

So this problem really annoys me. when i want to take picture, the camera screen just has a big rectangle on the right side of the screen, but it still takes the full picture, when i want to take a screenshot, it still shows the full camera screen. I'll make a bad paint picture to show how it looks
So i know it looks bad, but i didnt have another phone to take a real picture, so i hope you understand what i mean. i think it happened after i flashed a new cam firmware gdff02 or after updating siyahkernel from 1.3.8 to 1.3.8a, which i have now 1.4.
Stupid question: wipe cache and dalvik cache done?
retrace your steps, revert to the original camera firmware and check, if it didn't help then do the same with the kernel. If it doesn't help, then you can already exclude those things.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I have tried the above mentioned fixes, but doesnt work. I have not done anything out of the ordinary with my phone but this problem appeared right about the time I rooted the phone. Other then rooting, I have not flashed anything. The problem is exactly as OP described
Does any one else have this issue? Any ideas on how to solve it? I have tried using someone elses titanium backup for camera app, but same results

I've tried wiping both cache and user data as well as delvic cache. Both didn't fix the issue. As a side note, my phone has also been freezing a lot (usually on startup) and I won't be able to do anything but soft reset it with the power button. Because of this, I have tried restore my phone to factory settings. The problem with the camera will go away. But once I restored all my user data/app data using Titanium the problem will come back. I have tried excluding the camera app from part being restored (so technically the app would be left stock right?) but the problem still comes back. Now I'm at a loss as to what to do....:crying::crying:
Addition: the problem only happens the first time that the camera app is loaded, but usually wont happen if i reboot the camera a second time. It will come back if I don't use the camera app for a while. What is the problem!?!??!?!

Thanks.
I have edited my post and added more info.
So... is this solved?
I guarantee if it isn't it would be by wiping data/factory reset + wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache and flashing the latest version of a reputable ROM.

I think so as well. If not fixed by that then the only other alternative is a hardware fault.

I have done these three wipes befor flashing the last rom.
But could you suggest me a reputable ROM. and post its link please.
Well it sounds like an .apk problem.
Try: WanamROM for stock or RootBox2.1 if you want to go down the AOKP/CM10 route.
> G S II Android development. I'm sure you can find them yourself.
What is an apk problem?
I am having exactly the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2. I bought mine at T-mobile, it is a T-mobile branded phone, less then a month ago.
I did a factory reset a couple of times. That did not help.
I have not flashed my phone or anything like that. I do not even know what flashing is!

Try to do one of these solutions for the problem
Settings) application) running services) show cached process) camera) stop and clear data. Test your camera.
or
Settings Select Applications / Manage Apps Select Manage Applications Select All Select Camera and/or Android Camera Select Force Stop and Clear Data Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
or
If that did not work, please do a Google services reset:
Please go to Settings Select Applications Select Manage Applications Select All Select Google Services Framework Select Clear Data. Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
I still have the problem but maybe it will work for you.
I hope it will
Thanks a lot for your advice. Unfortunately it didn't work
What I find weird,is if I clear all data,it says 0.0 kb but after restarting my phone,it says 4.0 kb. Like it didn't cleared any camera data?
I am afraid there isn't anything left for me to do then go to a Samsung servicepoint....

I deleted all the files and directories in storage and then did a factory reset.
After that I can use the camera for a short while.
When I rebooted the phone, the camera goes blank screen again :crying:
So, anyway, this is likely a software problem and not hardware.

Are you quite sure its a software problem?
I've been facing this quite a few months. Problem started a few months after rooting with CF-Root and flashing Cyanogenmod 9 nightly(was working fine for few months). Since then have reflashed kernel (tried many Siyah kernels). It would work a while then become black screen again then again work sometimes.
Flashed Cyanogenmod 10. Would work intermittently now and then.
Finally flashed to stock official ICS ROM. Didn't help. Works for a while after the wipe and again a while if i do factory reset. But problem still persists.
Let me know if you find a solution. I'm really frustrated

[Q] How to solve a problem of device shut down by itself?

Hi,
I'm using JB 3.1.2 and I'm experiencing an issue with the device:
once/twice a day, the device simply turns itself off - even when I have enough battery - and in order to turn it on, I have to either click on the "power button" + "home button", or to click "power"+"volume up"+"home" (like I'm accessing the recovery mode); the device won't turn on by clicking the "power" button only.
2nd issue --> on the 'recent calls' log, sometimes missed calls are disappear from the log.
I would be glad to get help here..
Thanks!

Nobody said anything about deleting data. They said clear cache.
If that doesnt work simply re-flash rom over current one in cwm. Your appdata wont be touched. (unless its a wipe rom). If you still have issues then you should backup what you need with Titanium backup pro and do a clean install of rom/gapps by wiping data/factory reset then re-installing rom.
As an alternative to the above you could first try flashing kernel instead see if that resolves. Like Siyah for example.

I have same problem. Reflashing rom, wiping data, cache or dalvik wont work. Ive try some ROMs and will try another. Now Im testing phone after wiping battery stats. Maybe problem is in battery. Somewere I was read that with Samsung 2000mAh battery there was no problems. If You can try to test other battery.
If Yout phone will turn off - press power button about 10-12 seconds - will turn on.

Xperia sola Camera not working

Hello,
I have an Xperia sola with stock ICS rom.
I recently rooted and unlocked the boot loader of my xperia sola.
After that I ran Supercharger v6, Speedy Sola and AC!D Audio.
The camera worked fine before I rooted and unlocked the bootloader (while on ICS and back when I was on GB), but today I noticed that when I try to go to the camera nothing happens. I only hear a blink of the shutter and the screen goes black for a second.
I tried using Cyber Shot Mod but nothing changed, accept now there is no normal Camera app available, only the Cyber shot, which does the same as the stock camera app did (blink sound and black screen for a second).
I tried Flashing it to 6.1.1.B.1.54, nothing happened. Tried setting it back to factory but nothing changed.
I downloaded a camera app from Google Play and I can take photos there, but they are not as good and I would like to have my original camera app, as it was fine for me.
Please help.
Are you still using this rom with those apps installed? If so try a hard reset, if this doenst work try to flash stock ICS or GB rom...

Thank you for trying to help me.
As I wrote I already tried to factory reset it and flashing it back to ICS rom (with flashtool) but no luck.
After I did that it seems I still have root access, CWM is still installed and AC!D Audio is still there.
Do you refer to something different from factory reset when you wrote "hard reset"?
If not, do you have any other suggestions?
Then flash .54 tft again and do a full wipe (data), factory reset ang tick wipe data. You can remove sdcard if you want but everything from phone will be wiped, so bacjup what you want.

[Q] Camera shows a black screen and does not function.

Help please.
When entering the camera app its all black nothing really functions inside. (You cant take a photo/switch to front cam/reach any of the settings).
That problem continues with camera-using apps like Camera360, Instagram, etc...
I tried so far:
Unmounting SD card
Clearing dalvik/cache.
Factory data reset.
But no success.
Im using 4.1.2 stock with Jeboo Kernel if that matters. (Philz CWM)

I mean that your camera is dead= broken. You can get a new one from eBay.But I recommend you to flash multiple ROMs to see if it is really a hardware problem.
