I'm having problems with a brand new htc amazing. The Wifi connects but only for a while and only at like 1 bar even if I'm right next to my router. My Ipod and other devices can connect just fine. After connecting it'll remain connected for a while then disconnect. Currently I tried it on stock ics 4.0.3, Energy Rom, and Speedy Rom. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've also searched at the T mobile forums and I've read some about the wifi driver or something causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.

From other post it usually ends up being the router. Cheap router ? Old, Not up to date with firmware? You should go to stock and call it in to HTC. See what they say. They will ask you for the serial number and software number of your device. You may find the serial number in the ‘Settings’ menu under ‘About Phone’. The software information will be under ‘About Phone’ and then ‘Software Information’.
I'd like to know how this turns out since many others have this problem but no solid solution yet I don't see anybody deal with tech support either.

Turned out that HTC amaze does not like my router on wep64 I switched it to WPA aes and the problem went away. Which us kind of weird since every device works just fine in my house with wep64

I have finally found out the real root cause of this it seems it was my iPod interfering with the amaze wifi. Tested it several tines every time I turn it on the WiFi on amaze takes a dive and eventually dissconnects. I really feel like throwing my iPod out the window for all the headache and trouble it caused.

When I try to connect to my home network with my ipod connected to my wifi at the same time my Htc amaze will connect to the wifi but it'll drop to one bar and hold the connection for like 30s. This happens with Stock ics from htc, Speedy Rom, Energy rom. However, once I turn off the wifi on my iPod 4th gen my htc amaze is able to properly connect at full bar without dropping wifi connection.
Phone specs
rom ICS Energy Rom Aug 6th
kernal Htc Stock ics
Bootloader unlocked s on
My router is a cheap one send from telus called Siemens Gigaset SE567.
This might just be a case that only happens to me other people may not have this problem.

Sounds like router tho not ipod. Have you looked into updating the firmware for that router? Maybe if you call them they can replace for a better one.

I may get flamed for asking this but I'm going to any way. Is it possible to tether an Ipod Touch to an Eris through bluetooth in order to share the 3g internet connection? I haven't used my Touch much at all since ive had the eris...just thought it would be convenient when wi fi isn't available.

Well, if you're not leaked then just root the phone and open wifi tether. Start the tether and then just connect the ipod touch to the access point that the phone creates.
Yeah, it should work perfect. The phone creates the Ad-Hoc network and bam, you're online.
Off note, I know for a fact that until Sony gets their heads out of their butt, the Wifi Tether won't work for the PSP (The PSP is too good for ad-hoc networks apparently).
Yep, I got it working. If you're rooted use the wireless tether app to connect through wifi. Create an SSID and PW and you're good. Still can't figure out bluetooth, but wifi works just fine for me. I only use my Touch for the games, which as of now is really the only thing Android is lacking IMHO.

Man you got that right. Too bad developers aren't able to tap into Android's true power (seems to be a software limitation, yay Google! lol...)

really? Android is the most open and I think most varied and powerful smartphone OS available ay the moment. Google is giving it away, I hardly think its limited in software in any way.

Why does the X10 take so long to connect to my network. On average it takes 20 to 25 seconds, this would not be a problem except that both my daughters Galaxy s and my sons Ipod touch 4g both connect in under 3 seconds.
This is not a negative thread as both my wife and I love the X10 , I am just wondering if there is something to do to make it connect quicker or at least the reason why it takes so much longer.
Why would you paste the forum thread rules and then attempt a half-assed answer to my question. Why not just point me towards the thread that answers my question that I must have missed in my exhaustive search of the forum.
Now getting back to my question, no the 3g is off (let alone the fact that the ipod doesn't have 3g, you should have actually read the op)
All things are equal, I am just asking why my X10 takes almost ten times as long to connect and if there is something I can do to speed it up. My X10 is rooted and stripped of SE junk.

Is it only your home network? Or any wifi network. I had a similar problem which was caused by the number of devices connected at home. Can't really help as it resolved itself...

Slow wifi
Semi quoted from bryceowen, there seems to be some sort of problem with the algorithm used to select an ip when DHCP setting is used rather than a static ip. As a test try picking a dedicated ip and see if it connects any faster. If so its likely that its just a poorly developed driver for the wifi radio, that has a possibility of being fixed one day.
Hope it helps at least a little bit.
It's just an Xperia x10 thing not much you can do about it except maybe switch to a different rom and see if that helps im on Z's beta 4 2.2 rom it connects in 8 to 12 secs

Hi all, long time browser first time poster!
I have come across an issue with my TFP that every now and then, even when in the exact same spot where the wifi has worked before, it stops working.
My issue isn't range or anything like that.
When I go to my wifi settings, my Prime can see my network and many others around me, shows my signal strength as 'good' but when I tap my network and hit connect, it does nothing! The dialog box disappears and I am still not connected to my network, but it is still there in the list and still shows signal strength as good!
Has anyone come across this before/know a possible reason?!?
No idea. Try forgetting and re-connecting?

I am experiencing the same thing. Seems to be happening on both AP's and tethering from my phone.
Experienced as well
I also have this problem occasionally. I have always been able to solve it by either: forgetting wifi source and rescanning; or 2) rebooting.
I agree that it is irritating.
This happens to me nearly every time I try to make a new connection.
The one place that it happens less frequently is at work, which is strange, because the wifi here is very spotty. Maybe because the signal comes/goes so often the software notices it more? *shrug*
I as well do have this issue. To resolve my issue, I have been turning the wifi on and then off again. Sucks to waste 30 seconds waiting for it reconnect but it works. Seems to happen after the tablet has been sitting awhile
+1 on that issue, seen it many times on several primes.
How does it feel to beta test a product that was not ready for release?
What update are you on? I haven't had this happen since the initial upgrade to ICS.

Tried his, seems to work sometimes but more often doesn't!
Same version here. I have seen the forget/reconnect method fail also.
I had this problem when I had it set to turn off the wifi when it was sleeping. Once I unchecked that option, it never appeared again. Always had to reboot to get it on wifi when it happened.
Crazy. Obviously I could go into detail on some configuration changes for your routers or whatever, but I'm sure you've browsed the forum enough to see them all. And if not, even if you can change your own router settings it does no good abroad.
Tried several different networks with the problem occurring across the board?
Yesterday evening the problem attacked with a vengence, Could not connect to my network, tried several times turning wifi off and on, forgetting and reconnecting to network and several reboots, nothing would let me connect to my network, gave up and went to sleep!

I only found that option last night! My wifi has always been set to always on, but just before going to bed i changed this option to off when asleep, haven't been back to my prime to check it out yet.

Unfortunately I don't really have the opportunity to try different networks for long enough to see if this is a problem!
I have tried a few settings changes on my router, last thing left to try is static IP{ address, that is this evenings job when I can round up all my devices and grab their mac addresses!
This situation is repeatable, when WiFi connected...it knocks out router leaving laptop n devices unable to connect. I reset router by power, devices connect only to disable again. I believe its this phone. Anyone else seen this?

I haven't had that problem. I don't know what would cause that. Have you tried reinstalling?
Hey i had the same problem on Cleanrom de 1.3 with the 3.14.605 leak flashed over. It seems like its some sort of communication error and/or constant reconnects that causes the router to lock down. I upgraded to cr 1.4 and put in a better router i had laying around and its a little better but i still lose connection periodically and it seems like it happens most when I'm at the furthest point in my house from the router (my room). My router doesn't lock down anymore but I'm pretty sure it's cause it's a much better router than before. I hope we can track down the cause of this issue. I think it has to do with the 3.14.605 leak.

it sounds like the router is giving out identical IP address for different devices. my suggestion to, and this has happened to me in the past, but reset the router and give your laptop and other devices in the house a specific address and leave your phone as a static address.
i think it's due to the rapid reconnects by the phone. my issue seems to be resolved by flashing back to the 3.13 kernel so you should try that if you're on 3.14. If not it's something else

In still having the dreaded problem with Wi-Fi stuck at obtaining ip addresses. So I'm looking for a new kernel and modem to see if that will solve my problem. Can someone recommend one of each that work well with the froyo rom that's basically the stock? Thanks.

Have you made sure its not your router first?
I had an issue like this recently but it was my router. I had to update the firmware and it fixed my issues.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I've been using the router for years, and only after a point in time my phone started to have trouble re-connecting to my home wifi. I have a laptop, a nook color, and a nexus 7, which connect to the network without any problem. I only know the phone used to stuck at obtaining ip address at certain public wifi, and it looks like my router became "blacklisted" recently.
I tried to reset and tweak the wifi setting. tried different combo of wpa/wpa2 options and none of them is a lasting solution. I can't actually replicate the error on my phone reliably; it mostly stuck on obtaining ip address when I go out and use other wifi and then come back. Though sometimes it can get stuck in the morning. The only way to unstuck is to restart my router.
So yeah, I can't really decide if it's the router's problem or the phone's problem.
Maybe its an issue with dhcp. Have you tried setting a static IP?
Honestly I would go ahead and take the leap to JB! Hopefully that fixes your issue.
