CM will defo be built for the SGS3 im sure but it will take a few months to get it right.
CM7 will not be on the SGS3 as its Gingerbread based, CM9 will be the likely candidate Dont hold your breath though
JD
CM9 is WIP for I9300 atm

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest i will stay with TW as i like the direction Samsung have taken it
I was running CM9 on my S2 and wouldn't touch a TW rom on the S2, that said i think i would feel disadvantaged running CM9 on S3
Has anyone heard anything on CM9 for the S3 yet??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
No. CM7 will not be ported unless you want to port it which makes absolutely no sense at all. The Galaxy S3 is ICS natively and to go back to 2.3 is just silly.

SpeedJ.. Yep, xplodwild teased a screenshot a little while back. Its running on the GS3 but probably buggy as hell. When its stable and ready for release we'll see it. But it IS in the workx

Hi
I am running xxlsj for a few days and its good with Nelp4 modem.
I was wondering for an optimal performance os for galaxy s2. Will it be ginger bread or ics or jb?
I know there are custom roms kernels etc available but I am only interested in stock roms so please keep it to the subject.
Any thoughts?

for battery life: Gingerbread
for performance: Jelly Bean (although there's only AOSP builds afaik)
I'd go with a ICS stock-based ROM like WanamLite
If you want only stock roms, go with ICS. It's more recent and have many options that GB don't have.
Notice that really official Samsung stock, there isn't any JB versions yet, but Samsung claims that will release it until the end of this year.
There is a Samsung JellyBean leaked that you can use, but it's not an original stock release, keep that in mind.
Search for xxlsj on google and you will find your below statement incorrect in regards to jellybeans for gs2. I am already using jelly beans leaked "official" version.
Thanks for your input though.

Leaked versions are not releases.
My response was for dewalla's original post which he has edited since.
delawalla has just replied :***************If you want only stock roms, go with ICS. How about if we leave the cynicism on English language itself and focus on real question?
No one mentioned release so where are you coming from?

I take that to mean him saying: "but it's not an original stock release"; and you saying: "Search for xxlsj on google and you will find your below statement incorrect in regards to jellybeans for gs2. I am already using jelly beans leaked "official" version."
He specifically has the word "release" in his post. So he mentioned it. You seem to dispute the existence of a "release" by saying his statement is incorrect, and you are using the leak as evidence of this.
There is no cynicism here. I interpreted what you said in the context of the response to his post. If that's not what you meant, then clarify.

I would have to say no; otherwise it would have been done by now. Kernels are incompatible, can't use an ICS kernel with JB and vice versa. Pretty sure the kernel is the only hold up for us getting a whole bunch of new ROMs.

Ha ha, I know how you feel, dude. I would so love something non-stock. On another note, try some of these themed (inverted) apps. I'm using the inverted play store now and it works fine. Just wipe cache and dalvik first.

Let me know if you try other ones and get them to work. Maybe we can start a new thread directing people where to get them.
Edit: inverted ES file explorer works and looks awesome!

What he meant is that the Nexus 4's kernel is incompatible. We have a booting JB kernel for the Korean leaks that works fine. Problem is, we don't have source yet, so devs are limited in the resources for either porting the Nexus 4 kernel, or building JB roms until we have source, then it will be a lot easier.
And basically that won't happen until we get JB for stock? Damn all these terms are so confusing lol
I just want AOKP! Haha

Nope. Here. So right now we have the Korean JB leaks, and they boot. Devs can try using that kernel and what else we have to build JB, but that is hard. We can also try and port the Nexus 4 stuff, but once the source for Korean JB comes out we can work on JB and build it much easier. We don't actually need JB on our phones, or any phone, just JB source from Korea, US, or whatever comes first.

Like nygfan said above me, we could get the update and still not have the source. The source is the raw, unencrypted file(s) that the kernel was built from. Without that, it is tough to do much with the kernel because we can't read it.
(somebody correct me if I am wrong, that is how I have always understood it.)
So here's a questions I've been thinking about. I want to root and install Nocturnal so I can get de-bloated, Google Now, etc. However, I don't want to be stuck on ICS if JB is officially released in the U.S. prior to a CM or other JB based custom ROM (I know sometimes allowing an OTA can mess up your root, or at least I think I know that). So here's the question: Should I go ahead and root / install Nocturnal? Or is there a possibility that we will get a JB OTA prior to a custom development? Grassy Ass!

I would suggest rooting.
You can enjoy all there is for now in Noc and we do not know when the JB update is coming out.
Any OTA's will probably break root, but usually a dev can take it and root it before it is installed and make a .zip.
Most likely we will actually see JB sooner on rooted devices than stock ones (assuming there is a leak that will work on ours).
If the OTA DOES come out sooner, I give it a week before a .zip is posted... and that seems too long to me.

Right, without kernel source it's just basically changing values based on guesses with a few bricked devices in between. We could probably get JB without JB software source if we just had a good JB kernel for our device. We could always port JB, much harder to port a kernel.

I'd just go for installing the custom ROM you want now. If you have to you could always LGNPST back to stock and get the official JB update.

You mean G4&Xperia Z P V3.0? Yeah, it's really cool, I have used it for more than 10 hours...
Indeed, if you're looking to be on the cutting edge in terms of Android Version, you should definitely go for custom ROMs.
Some Stock-base ROMs (like Revo HD or Omega) are already running latest 4.2.1 leaked firmware from Sammy.
AOSP Roms are practically all on 4.2.2 by now, and some of them are extremely stable and fast (running Temasek v83... just out of this world)
If you're all about official OTA upgrades, then I wouldn't be too sure about April, they usually announce firmware upgrades a good month before release. That's what happened for ICS on S2, which is approx. equivalent to 4.2.2 on S3 in terms of product lifecycle.

I think that Samsung will release 4.2.2 for Galaxy S3 only when Galaxy S4 will sell a lot. For now,I think that first we get 4.2.1.
why release 4.2.2 when they can release 5.0?
