charging from 0 % to 100% do always take time since ur cahrging current is ltd to 650mA. so that time of 4Hrs is quite Normal.
but u should not allow the battery to drain completely like that(0%) but charge the phone when its around 15~20%.
also u can change the Kernel and see

[Q] Battery %

When I fully charge my GS3 and pull out the charger it drops to 99% straight away. Does this happen to everyone else's?

Isnt that just right? if you have 100% of battery and you start using it, you dont have 100% anymore right that second. Its like a countdown, when you have 10 minutes, and you start your timer, then right after you start it, you only have 9 minutes and % seconds, and it goes down...you never have 10 minutes for a minute, and then suddenly 9 minutes.
It doesn't fully charge your battery to 100% to prevent it from over charging, which will increase the life span of your battery. My I9000 does this too

Charge it whenever you want to.
Its better to charge it everyday from 40% to 100% than to charge it every day from 0% to 100%.
The shorter the charge cycles the longer your battery will last (lifetime wise)

Conditioning is more important than the initial charging of a lithium-ion battery.
Run it on the charge for an hour or two extra. But make sure you use the battery to around 20% charge then recharge it fully.
Depending on who you ask, this seems to be the best for longevity for Li batteries.
OK thank you

it's also very damaging to run lithium batteries flat (like you see in some screenshots where people run it to like 1%)
optimum charge for lithium is between around 30% and 80%. they will get better life with regular top up charges rather than full discharge and charge.
Re Samsung S3 GT-19000
I asked the same question to customer services when I got mine and was told charge first time for 8 hours,. even though the batt will come with some charge already in it,. they told me charge for 4 hours, then you can turn it on but leave it continue charging for a further 4 hours with minimal use, then your ready to go, the standby life is only a couple of days,. from experience, but if your browsing or playing games/watching video etc it will only last 7 to 10 hours,. hope thats helpful,. regards Gwest
No need to charge for x hours before use. That, and those "fully charged before discharge", "fully discharged before recharge" are for nickel battery which has memory effect. Lithium battery has no memory effect but natural degradation. To slow the degradation, just avoid fully discharge and high temperature.

Battery charging

Not sure if it's kernel (siyah) or my rom (paranoid android) but my charging is weird......
It takes ages to charge (eg. 33% right now.... Tells me it will take 10hrs to charge) and when it's plugged in and I use it for browsing or just using fone it doesn't charge..... It seems to drain battery....
Any reason y its doing this? Using samsung charger
Also it might have been when I reseted the battery at cwm

I think its alright! Yup its little slow but its fine! When I was having a stock S3, it used to take 2 + hrs for complete charging (0%-100%)
If you are not satisfied then you can change your charger!
Or if you are are rooted user then u can try by changing charging settings in your kernel(only if u have a custom kernel)!
Press thanks if it helped you! :silly:
Yea, no need to panic. Same here.

You could use a custom kernel modifing the charge settings but BE CAREFUL, could be dangerous for your battery if you will exaggerate
The older your battery is then the smaller it's capacity and the quicker it will charge. A brand new battery should take around 4 hours to charge, so your battery has lost 40% of it's original capacity -assuming your charger and internal charging circuit of the phone remain to spec.
