How to build a ROM for tethering - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi everyone, I'd like to build own ROM for P500.
ROM will be used only for wi-fi tethering.
How can I do it?

Flash cm7 as it has tethering features
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app

Cm9 has blue tooth tethering also. You can do WIFI tethering with Cwm's theter app.
And if you have a good rope, you can do every other kind of tethering.

I know that I can use CM7 or CM9, but I'd like to build own soft, only for tethering (I don't need another applications, only tethering. My phone replaces 3G modem now [only a few weeks].)
And CM9 has bugs - always when I turn tethering on and than turn it off, my phone restarts. And when tethering is on for a few hours my phone restarts too.

WTH is this.
0/ Get a 3G modem. Problem solved.
Failing the above - flash a ROM that supports tethering and use it. If you do not need other applications, then do not install them
P.S. The phone restarts because it is damn overheating when you are tethering for "a few hours". This will be a problem with any ROM out there, this is a phone, not 24/7 3G modem.

Usb internet tethering not working good.

Hello to all my android geek family.. I have been trying out different Usb tethering programs including easy tether, and pdanet. They work great for about 5 to 10 minutes and then the internet on my pc stops, while the internet on my phone still works. It does it with both programs. Is Usb tethering just that buggy right now on the bolt? Or is it just me? When I look at the internet connection on my desktop, it still says its connected to an internet source. Please help. Thanks.

First it would help to list which rom/kernel/radio you are using. it seems to me that all GB roms are ****ed when it comes to tethering. wireless goes off after the screen is off. and i experienced either no connect or constant disconnects with wired tether. on top of that, gb roms/radio had this annoying habit of making my 4g connection disappear for a second then to reappear, but with out the ability to download anything. happened all the time. then i switched back to froyo rom and poof, like magic tethering works perfectly. no 4g disappearing, no loss of tether when screen is off. i havnet tried the wired tether app since on froyo because i prefer wireless, but i'll give it a try and let you know.

Ok thanks. In case you haven't noticed I am on bamf 3.0 with the stock kernal that comes with it. So if I want to use wireless tethering just make sure the screen doesn't timeout? That's the only problem you experienced? Also were you using the basic wireless tether app that comes preinstalled? Thanks for your help. ;D

i couldn't get he wired tether app to work. you can use the wireless tether app to tether. right now i'm on the latest synergy 3.0 rom with the kernel that it came with on mr2.5 radio. i hve the 2.0.5 version (much older version) of wireless tether and everything has been running smoothly for the past 16 hours. tried the latest. 3.0.1 beta of wireless tether that came out yesterday, but it didn't want to connect me to the pc. now with the combination of tether app (2.0.5) and the rom, i can tether while the screen is off. i couldn't do this before with the 2.0.7 wireless tether app and older nightly of the synergy rom (6-27 or so). i guess the problems got fixed. I alaso havent experienced any 4g icons/connection disappearing for second and reappearing, but without the ability to tether. i'll give a couple days to figure stuff out. try it out on the bamf roms see if you have problems. and try many of the version of wireless tether app.

Strange PDAnet seemed to be working for me yesterday all day (USB Tethering). I was playing Counter-Strike Source with it and I was surprisingly getting a decent ping.. Not as good as I would imagine but still decent. Around 90 Ms. The wireless hotspot that comes with the phone seems to be a hit or miss for me. It wants to work sometimes, and sometimes it just doesn't want to work. It will connect to the wireless network no problem, says Internet Access, but really in reality, there is no internet..lol.. To get PDAnet working, if that's what you were trying to use, Try installing the legacy drivers. Just go to the PDAnet folder in the start menu and install Lecacy network drivers.. That fixed everything for me.
Off topic just a little bit, but have you noticed a large speed decrease through wireless? I only get about 7.5mbps max, compared to 20+ on the phone itself using speakeasy's speed test. strange....anyways, Ill keep messing with the tether, both wireless and usb, and let you know what I come up with..
Where do you get the other versions of Wireless tether?
this is where if find all the wireless tether apps.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
i never tried to use the pdanet. you have to pay and i'm too cheap for that.
speed decrease in wireless? no. the speedtest app doesn't work right for lte apparently. what i do i go to the browser (both the phone and the tethered comptuer) and go to their website. speedtest.net and perform the test there. typically 15-25 mbps download both using the computer and cell phone. the app is pretty unreliable in my opinion.
hmm playing counterstrike. never thought about it. i used to love day of defeat, maybe i'll give it a try since you say the lag isn't all that bad.
One other thing that you should look out for is HTC Sync running in the background while using a non-root tethering app like PdaNet or EasyTether. They all use adb under the covers, so there can be conflicts if not managed appropriately. It's probably best to fully exit HTC Sync if you have it.
By the way, someone on the Droid Charge forums has run a speed comparison between the various USB tether methods, and it's a bit enlightening. Despite PdaNet's claims of "handling download speed of well above 35Mbps (35000kbps) over USB and [being] the fastest tethering software available for Android, it really lags behind everyone else.

wireless tether has been money, however easy tether (on Bamf sense 3.0 mr2) has been working so far, maybe try that.

I'd like a more stable rom for tethering. (I'm on Bamf 3.0/MR2)

Right now I'm on BAMF Sense 3.0 Gingerbread using MR2 radio (MR1 had no service) and every time I hook up USB and hit "Share internet with PC", I drop 3G and 4G and don't even get 1x. It's irritating.
And when I use Wifi Hotspot built in application, I get very very shaky consistency. If the screen turns off, 4G drops. After 10-15 seconds, 4G resets.
One of the primary reasons I traded my iPhone for a Thunderbolt was to bypass the need for a cable modem but I'm having no such luck.
Can anyone recommend a rom that has 100% stability with tethering? I'd prefer Wifi tethering but I'll settle for USB tethering as long as it works as well as it did on any other HTC Android phone I've used.
And yes, I've tried Barnacle and no, I do not like it.
Try Wifi Tether.

I love it and it works fantastic for me.
I just found Wireless Tether and I'm giving it a shot. Aside from tethering issues, BAMF 3.0 is a great rom so I'd hate to move away from it.
I'm surprised Verizon found a way to block Wireless Tether from Market. They sure are getting ahead in their game! So far I haven't had any drops! *knocks wood*
It's funny that some rooted app on market is better at tethering than Verizon's own hotspot feature. You'd think if they want people to pay for it, the least they can do is make their app the best for it.
I always find apps created by independent programmers seem to be the best anyway. The features of Wifi-Tether are awesome too, you can change the SSID, enable encryption, and manually enable or disable devices from connecting to your hotspot. Cant beat all that for functionality.
i use SYNERGY 3.0 latest nighty with the wireless tether app and dont' have your issues. as far as i know, this is the only GB rom that doesn't have this problem. all froyo roms worked perfectly for me. with the stock kernel it came with and mr2 radio.
WiFi Tether for the win. I used it just yesterday to DL a 500mb disc img.
CM7's USB Tethering works great for me.

+1 to that. Running BAMF 3.0 RC4 MR2.5. Using wifi tether. works great. If you cant find the wifi tether on the market, just put your phone in airplane mode and use wifi to connect then go back to market and search wifi tether for root.
I am using this version of WiFi Tether ... http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta1.apk&can=2&q=
I have found in order to get a stable connection, if you go into Settings and scroll down under the LAN option ... there will be a checkbox for Routing fix. Once I turned that on, my connection has be very stable.
Hope this works for you.

[Q] Share my 3G connection with my tablet somehow... tether, hotspot, BT, don't care

I have an unrooted Asus Transformer running stock 3.1 and I'm trying to connect to the internet in any way I can through my Samsung Fascinate. My fascinate is rooted and running MIUI 1.7.1.3 with the 2.6.35.7-otb-cfs-fascinatemtd+ kernel.
I have tried the built in hotspot mode, Wireless Tether for Root Users (several variations of 2.0.7 and 3.0 and 3.1), Barnicle. I've tried wifi, BT and USB tethering and nothing works. The closest I get is witht he built in hotspot and Wifi Tether, both of which I can get it to see my fascinate but it gets hung up on "obtaining an IP..." Barnicle didn't work at all because I couldn't get infrastructure mode, only ad hoc. I can't use Wireless Tether with BT because for some reason this option is greyed out. I've also tried going legit and paying though VZW but that didn't work.
I've read the thread about reprovisioning my fascinate with qpst or something but can't figure out how to do it. I have a feeling my biggest problem is MIUI or my kernel. Can anyone suggest a kernel and/or ROM for my Fascinate that will allow me to sucesfully tethter?
Any other than the muiu or cm7 mtg builds should work. Those builds are very different from our source built stuff.

[Q] CM10 : Tethering not working

Hello,
I have a SG3 (i9300) and I have an issue with CM10 (and 10.1) :
Bluetooth Tethering and USB tethering doesn't work (wifi tethering not tested yet).
If I test with Omega or Stock Samsung Rom : no problem, 100% working.
I've test with CM 10 noobproof edition (flashable with "Odin cm-10-20120920-ODIN-i9300.tar") : tethering work but the wifi does not work anymore... :silly:
(This is the only CM10 rom I tested for which Tethering works)
I also tested with Paranoid, temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM10.1 BUILD (and 10), official (nightly) build, ...
I tested by putting back the phone "stock", unrooted before flash CM10 : no way...
I can connect my computer to my i9300 : ping OK, but no internet connexion.
Help ?
Sorry about my English, I'm French
Hmm, no replies yet. We can't be the only 2 people who are having issues with tethering on cm10.
For me I could not tether on my Nexus S 4G stock, stock but rooted, nor on 2 different night lies. Stock, I downloaded an app, it broadcasted the ssid and I connected to it, but no routing.
On cm10 the tether app wouldn't broadcast the said, and there were errors every time it tried to run.
Now I installed WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod. Nothing really works, but if I launch with Fallback Tether Mode I see that as the said. However, it is short lived because I think part of it crashes and the ssid disappears. I did connect to it once, bit no routing again.
Seems the best I can do is connect with no routing, and I'm beginning to wonder if Sprint found a way to block this function if we haven't paid for it. I couldn't get it to work on my photon 4g either.
Is anybody able to tether for free on Sprint? I used to do it on my Evo 4g all the time. Wish I had one to test with.

[Q] WIFI tether completely broken

I have a droidX with liquid ICS 1.62,
android version 4.0.4,
and kernel version 2.6.32.9-g34b306d
i have tried every possible method i have found to get wifi tethering working, its to give my nexus 7 wifi on the train
I'm able to tether with bluetooth, but because there's no wifi connection various apps dont "see" the internet and ignore it.
so i need wifi tethering
BUT IT WONT FREAKIN WORK. :crying::crying:
more specifically, no matter what i try, nothing can see the wifi tethering signal of my phone, its as if nothing is there at all.
it'd tried; Foxfi, PDAnet, wifi tether for root users, barnacle tether...
i'm completely at witts end here, ask me any question you need and i'll answer in as much detail as needed
anyone? at all?
if you need any more information, i can provide it
guess not
i'll probably have to drop back down to CM7, it looks like every single ics or jb rom for the droidx has this dumb issue. thanks verizon
wait, nevermind, got it working again somehow
after flashing back to stock liquidICS 1.62 i found it working again
i tried to underclock the phone so i could leave it in my pocket running wifi all day, but apparently under OR overclocking the phone AT ALL breaks tethering, dont ask me how or why.
if you change the clock speed at all, you need to reboot before using tether
