From CM7.2 back to stock rom - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I want to go from CM7.2 back to a rooted stock rom.
I tried to install two different roms via recovery modus and install zip from sd-card.
But it failed. (showed something like "... is no longer valid")
So i made a journey through google during the last three days.
But I didn't found a page where it is clearly step by step explained.
Seems to be very tricky with the HTC Legend.
Samsung Note was much easier.
I don't want to make something wrong, can some help me with this?
Regards
Michael

You can try a old version of CWM., i think v2.5.0.7 could work.

Hi,
thanks for this.
One Question before I'm going to try it.
If it works and i have a rooted Stock Rom afterwards, can I go back easily to CM7.2 by restoring it with the ROM Manager and the Backup/restore funktion?
Needless to say that I've made a backup before.
regards
Michael

Hi,
when the Stock Rom is really rooted, then you can go back to CM7.2 or any oher rom. Try B0.8.4 from BlaY0 , it is very stable and has a working GPS.

Hi,
thanks again, because it worked. I just installed a rooted Stock Rom (3.14.161.1 r1 - Stock Froyo ROM for the HTC Legend with Online Kitchen)
with the Rom Manager after I've changed to CWM 2.5.0.7.
So, now I can try out some Roms.
Pretty perfect.
Thx
Regards
Michael

Install stock 2.1 without losing recovery partition

Hey all,
Been running ROMs on my Hero for a while now but I'd like to give the stock 2.1 a try and possibly stick with it until CM6 is stable. I know I can install the RUU but I don't really want to lose my recovery partition, I had to use the gold card method which was a pain in the ass.
I don't need root, I'd actually prefer to get a non-rooted completely default factory ROM if possible. How would I go about doing that or do I need to install the RUU and re-root it later if I want to? I've seen some "stock" ROMs floating around on the dev forum but all have been rooted and most seem to be running custom kernels too.
Any info or a link would be appreciated if I can keep my recovery part. Cheers
Villain Team has posted the GSM roms. There's pure stock and rooted stock.

New Htc hero.

Hi
I just had a Htc hero and I want to know if I can update it. (I'm new to Android)
I know it have 2.1, someone rooted it (I don't know whats rooted) and granted me superuser.
Now I want to update it because I heard it's faster, have better keyboard, etc.
But I can not official update with the update option in the phone.
Someone told me my version of something was to new so I had to downgrade it so I could put a rom.
So I want to know, whats a rom, and how can I put one that's better then the original 2.1.
Thanks
Try installing VillainROM 12 to a full 2.1 Rom, you can also try Floyo to a 2.2 Rom.

I heard I had to downgrade the boot.
How can I do that?
Hello!
A ROM is the system on your phone. You must install a custom recovery to flash another ROM, I would recommend VillainROM 12, it's a good one to begin with.

Thanks, but I heard I had to downgrade the boot to install a rom.
Is there any guide to to so?
And after a guide to install a rom?
Well if your hero is rooted there's no need to downgrade it. It was the newer updates that had a patch installed in it that made it impossible to root your phone was the reason why it had to be downgraded I believe.
Since you said it's already rooted what you need to check for is if you have a recovery image set up on your phone. Go into recovery mode by either holding down the vol down button and power or the home button and power but here's instructions one how to root your phone and load a custom rom

How can I install a stock rom with clockworkmod?

Someone wants to buy my gf's phone but it has clockwork installed with a custom rom. Is there a way to install the original 2.2 rom without the long procedure? Is there a very stable 2.2 clockwork rom with very small modifications?
Thanks

You can install original (rooted) stock 2.3.3 ROM, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140862
I was looking at that but the replies were somewhat negative... I'll give it a try! Thanks

Shrug. You wanted stock with very little modifications. The only mods there are root + a2sd support. (Oh, and removed FB+Twitter junk).
(There is a nandroid backup of 2.2.x posted somewhere here, but I cannot find it and IMHO if you want stock ROM, it is pointless to flash 2.2.x now).

[Q] [help]Resurrection Remix ics Rom v9.1

Hi forumer,
I just swipe to this ROM but i found my phone shutdown itself (so far 1 times),my video recording cannot zoom and my bluetooth not working (cannot pair with my laptop and headset, my phone cannot discover them and they also cannot discover my phone, already turn on visible on my phone)

well the ics is still in beta stage till samsung launches new official firmware ...
i have tryed a lot of ICS roms, but i'm stil on GB because i need a stable phone for daily use.

It's great to read this, inthe future with this situations follow the advice of chr15j it's good to!
i did a few ICS roms as well but went back to GB, am now on >> PhonandroidRom v1.0- Siyah Kernel -Based MIUI. Pretty stable for me...
this is completely unrelated and i'm an absolute nooblet but I just need a quick answer. I have this rom on my phone but I want to unroot and go back to stock. Am I right in thinking I can just flash a stock samsung gingerbread rom onto the device just using odin and it will unroot it and be fine? Just want to check before I steam ahead and because this is an ICS rom.
Thanks guys.

Yes, you may need to go back to a suitable kernel also. Using Odin should be very easy.
hello
I tried all the roms remis since 8.5
i find remix 9.4 verry good .the main problem is about chainfire kernel which has to be more developped
for ICS roms, I don't find kernels like Siyah or nymphetamine which are good with GB
now we must wait a new version of XXLPH rom
I tried yesterday Remix 9.5 but too much bugs with CWM and I went back to R 9.4
I tried others roms than Remix (omega,Criskelo,CM9,Foxhound) ,I found Foxhound 0.3 good but still more buggy than R9.4 ( cannot synchronize contacts with outlook)
br46
SGS2 with remix 9.4
Well, not only the chainfire kernel has to be more developed, but also all the custom ones...
i especially miss a perfect working siyah and neak one on ics!
hoping the devs are on it already! ^^
Try :Resurrection Remix ics v1.0, it should be out any moment now.....

[Q] Quick question regarding updating.

Dear reader,
I've currently been using Cyanomod for 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and everything (which took a little while )
Everything is running perfectly fine, but i would like to update my phone to android 4.0+ (whatever the lastest compatible version might be)
How should i go about this?
Do i basically uninstall everything and start from scratch or is there an easy method to quickly update my phone to android 4.
Kind Regards and Thank you for your time!
I believe the answer us first to backup your apps with titanium backup if you need them. Then go to recovery and backup your current Rom. (always be sure to do this). from recovery wipe factory reset and dalvik cache. Then install your new Rom from zip.
You cannot install an android 4.0 + over another version. Always backup and wipe.

Do i need to re-root my phone when i install a new Rom? Or should i just install it through recovery?
Rom's are pre rooted (expect stock, stock BASED roms ARE pre-rooted), once you've installed the rom through cwm, it will be rooted and ready.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can easily flash a custom kernel (Based on ics, so it'll be compatible with ics rom) And boot into recovery, and flash a custom rom based on ics.
One last question, since i'm having trouble finding compatible roms.
Which one would any of you, recommend for me to use ?
I have a ST18i and i'd like the lastest compatible rom.
Thanks so much for the fast reponses and ofcourse the help.
Kind Regards,
Since you're using CyanogenMod 7 I would recommend you to use CyanogenMod 9.1 i.e. FXP 138 is the best in my experience.

If your finding trouble with compatible roms are you saying your getting bootloops when trying them?, because a different Android Version requires a different kernel, So if you haven't or forget to flash the kernel recommended or provided then that would possibly be where your compatibility issues lye as you will get bootloops if you don't and you are changing version. As Mikii suggested earlier.

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). I'll have to figure out how to flash kernels again. Gonna check around the forums to see if i can find a suitable thread.
Thanks so much

The fastest way to flash a kernel is to use the program called flashtool, click on the lightening bolt, select Fastboot mode, then select kernel to flash find the kernel you want to flash and it should be done within literally 2 seconds. once Flashtool gives you the all clear, disconnect your phone from usb, restart phone, and there you go, the old kernel will be overwritten, and so will that kernel's cwm version, with the one from the new kernel.
Try FXP138
