In fact, I'm more looking for a confirmation than a true question.
What if I would get my clock widget from Sony for my Minipro that curently runs CM9 ?
- I got the nand backup of /system /cache /data of my stock ROM (ICS)
- I unyaffsed the .img files
- I extracted the "widgetdigitalclock.apk" from /system/app to my sd card.
Would it safe (and would it worck) to simply install it ? (technically speaking)
Would it be legal ? It seems to me it's a bit like grey market : I'm installing Sony's app on a Sony device, but not the way it was first intended...
Safe, yes.
Legal, not sure. You don't own the app but you are installing it on the device that it was on in the first place.
This is something that can be debated for quite some time, but a key factor is that Sony aren't likely to find out and won't really care if they did. It's really not something you need to worry about.
The only downside is that it might not work and you wasted your time. That's it.
Well it did not worked...
I have to find out why. I have two trails :
- The widget was a system app, so I need to copy it in the right place
- The widget needs Sony's clock app, and I do not know if it's a good idea to swap from CM9 clock to this.
N.B : The install did not crash or what, I just can not see the widget in the list.

Well, finally, it works !
I just rebooted the phone and voilà !
The only problem is that clicking the widget do not invoke the alarm settings. But i's seems normal, as stated in this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089470 , it need the other clock widget.
It's a bit strange, there are two apks...
widgetdigitalclock.apk --- clock widget Edit : There is no apk of this name, maybe a rename between versions ?
DigitalClockWidget.apk --- clock widget (the one I installed, simply by clicking on it)
I'll investigate...

Hi Everybody!
So....I can't stand anymore the SE def. apps! Too Much Blue!
Now, i want to ask users of the forum what app do you use instead of the SE crapware Apps. In the detail:
- HomeScreen
- Contacts
- Calls
- Messages
- Browser
- File Manager
- Music
- Camera/Album
My Config:
- HomeScreen --> Simple Home (Search in Market, very useful, only 3-4 MB of RAM)
- Contacts --> Stock SE (I want To Replace with another app ASAP!!!)
- Calls --> Stock SE (I want To Replace with another app ASAP!!!)
- Messages --> Stock SE (I want To Replace with another app ASAP!!!)
- Browser --> Opera Mini 5.1.1
- File Manager --> AndroZip Pro (4 Zip & Rar Files is excellent!)
- Music --> TinyPlayer (Search in Market...uses 3-4 MB of Ram)
- Camera/Album --> Stock SE (I hate it! if you open only Camera or Album, it opens both....grrr!!!)
I'd Like to have stock Contacts, Messages and PhoneBook (even Ported from another QVGA phone...)
I even install MenuUnlock (Paid)...like in 1.6, in fact, it can unlock phone by pressing Menu Button!
Thanks in Advance!!!
for contacts i use this : www.contapps.com (search it on market "contapps")
Anyone know of an App to block adverts? I used to use Adfree Android on my Galaxy S but doesnt seem to be supported with this version
Cheers
For messages you can't beat Handcent SMS
If I use some app for contacts, like contapps, can I remove default contact apk? Its a sh*t SE app. And I wold like to substitute it with stock 2.1 app. Do somebody know where I can find it?
- HomeScreen - LauncherPro+ (menaged to replace SemcHome.apk without any errors)
- Contacts - Contapps (didnt try to replace default SE app)
- Calls - Stock SE app
- Messages - Handcent SMS (menaged to replace Conversations.apk without any errors)
- Keyboard - Scandinavian Keyboard (its just the name, it have English input)
- Browser - Skyfire browser ((menaged to replace Browser.apk? without any errors) it plays flash, because browser routes traffic through its own servers that pre-render flash and assorted other things before delivering it to the browser).
- File Manager - Root explorer (gives you R/W permissions to root folder) or Astro File Manager
- Music - Stock SE app
- Clock - SiMi Clock Widget (menaged to replace DigitalClock.apk without any errors)
- Stock Lock Screen - WidgetLocker Lockscreen
- Camera/Album - Gallery3D (FixedCamera button version) (search forum or google "GalleryFixedCamera.apk")
P.S. Dont try to replace or delete Camera app (SemcCamera.apk?), you will end up unable to take a photo.
(whenever i put ? it means i forgot correct name of that apk)
Icons Gingerbread Nexus S Edition.
If anyone try to replace stock apps with custom ones im not responsible if you get a error or end up in endless boot cycle, since you will, most likely, start getting a error.
After many tries i menage to make it work, but trust me, it not worth so much time, flashing and reediting everything else. i menage to do it, but im not holding any responsibility if anyone try it and fails.

Your phone must be rooted and you need Root Explorer installed. Before anything you do backup your data using xRecovery or Titanium Backup. Start Root Explorer and go to /system/app folder, mount r/w rights (read/write) and find SemcContacts.apk. You can try to replace it with app that you wanna use, just move to SDcard or delete SemsContacts.apk and put app that you wanna use as replacement (i would personally rename that app to "SemcContacts", long press on it and edit it permissions to 644 (644 permissions), reboot and that is. I didnt tryed, i just explained you how to replace it.
More easily is to just install normally contact app that you wanna use and hide stock one (LauncherPro have option to hide icons in app drawer) down side to this is when you use custom contact app your stock app is run in background (at least its like that for me), thus eating your memory. Thats why im trying to find a way to replace as many stocked apps as i can.
Hello, after trying several apps I end up with the following "main" applications:
GO Launcher,
GO SMS and
Youlu Adress Book (combines contacts and caller + cool widget with missed call reminder, give it a try)

I had Adfree on my mini (search for adfree in market) thats how I found it..
but now I just use this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893741
I love this tool!! and it can update your host file (which is all Adfree does)
-Handsent SMS (I don't write a lot of SMS's but I like to use the phone in landscape mode when I do and the stock doesn't seem to do that??)
-K9 mail (E-mail app.. multiple accounts etc.. I can't live without it)
-Skyfire Browser (because it plays flash videos) when I used Miren it just opened skyfire to play a video.. why use 2 apps?
-Meridian Music player (it has some nice features, I even got the paid version it was so good)
-Vignette is a nice Camera app (has cool effects and borders like old style polaroids and shizzle.
-Swiftkey for the keyboard.. because it knows what I want to write before I do! well sometimes.. its damn quick anyway.
-Root explorer (for root stuff) Astro for normal file shizzle
-and Launcher Pro plus for a home launcher.
thats how I roll.. each to his own tho...

AdFree works with my X10 Mini 2.1 rooted, which version did you mean? The OS or that particular application 'AdFree'?
Hi i rooted my xperia x10i after updating to 2.3.3 for the first time and deleted a few bloatware.
1 >>>Somehow i deleted the power widget too and at that time the widget was on my main screen(desktop) too..
After reboot, the widget was deleted and the screen where the widget was placed is blocked and I cannot place any widgets there, nor can i move any existing widget there.
If anyone could help, would really appreciate it...
2 >>> Also after every reboot, the default settings are not remembered by the phone.. as in the shortcut to sms to be used by chompsms, and default miss call by dialer one, etc... Please help..........
3 >>> The menu in which we can set our own order, the new feature which i really like also gets changed after reboot.. Dont know what is the problem, it just doesnt save the view..
BTW Stock Rom with root, FPS unlock, bloatware removed is Super fast and kool and extra smooth too..
Clear data and cache of your home screen app
Thanx! Gregbradley..
It solved the first problem.. Can you please help me with the other two?????

Which launcher and rom are using?
On cyanogenmod roms there is an option to keep the homelauncher in memory, that should help.
You could also use TB to freeze/delete the stock apps so the launcher cant find them and looks for the ones you use instead.
I actually use stock 2.3.3 and have deleted all un-needed stuff.. but in 2.1, it used to remember if I set a shortcut icon to use chompsms, also whenever there is a missed call, it used to determine by itself and open it via dialer one rather than phone... But now in 2.3.3 after every reboot it asks me what default option would i like to choose.. it does not remember...
Also the nicest feature to set the menu items in the order that i would wish, after reboot it forgets and all the icons are spread far and wide..
i know its complicated.............Can you please help??
Hi Devs!
There is a great free(!) Hotspot Widget out there, which works perfect with Xperia Active by low power consumption.
Unfortunately the design of the widget isn't the same as the original Xperia Active Widget, that come with the stock ROM.
So, ich have the APK of the widget an the new graphics, but as i'm no developer, i can't put them together.
So, i ask you, is it possible for you, to modify the widget with the new buttom graphics?
The new graphics are from the stock Xperia Active Wifi Widget, but it would also fit perfectly as Wifi Tethering Widget in design.
I attached both, the widget-APK (actual version) and the graphics below.
It would be great, if someone could do that!
hmm.. will help u mate but need a screen shot of widget on screen activated and off
... you want New widget icon to be same small or as big as the Wifi widget in Stock?
Hi jjdoctor!
This is great, many thanks!!
I just made 2 screenshots, one when wifi toggle is off, the other when wifi toggle is on.
Just to explain it:
It would be great, if the attached APK woul have the same toggle as the original Xperia Active Wifi Toggle (like Screenshot), same size, same look. Then the Tethering Widget would fit the other stock Xperia Active Widget!
If you could manage this, it would be perfect!!
I asked for Screenshots of Wifi Tether application widget...
Btw.. I make it same as Wifi Toggle widget of Stock SE then how would u differentiate between Wifi toggle and Hotspot Tehter Toggle?
Ok, sorry, i misunderstood this.
Now, here are Screenshot from the Hotspot Widget (off, start, on)!
I don't need to differenciate between Wifi and Hotspot widget as i don't have Wifi where i live (therefore i need the Hotspot Widget), so i simply don't use the wifi widget.
Ok then..I cant test it.. But lets hope it works then... Share some screen shots ..
Hmm, i copied it to sdcard and tried to install but it said to me "not installed" after it.
Should i have to "sign" it first?
I have activated "USB debugging" and "install from unknown sources"!

No, not rooted. Unfortunately there is no root für my sw-version. ("build" too new).
I deinstalled previous version, restarted the phone, but still cannot be installed.

If it was a system application that came in your mobile then you cant overwrite it using the apk without having root access...
btw..where did u grab the apk from?
I now signed the apk using ANdroid Commander and finally managed to install it!
But there has nothing changed with the graphics. Still all the same.
Maybe it should be changed at drawable-mdpi, too? As the screen resolution is only 320x480? Could this be the reason?
Oh sorry, I made it for HDPI... forgot that you have small screened active.. Here it is now..
Ah, ok, thanks! Now it works, the graphics are changed, but the size isn't correct. They are somelike "zoomed".
I made 3 screenshots (off, start, on):
Hmm Not a big deal.. would be perfect if I had your com.sonyericsson.widget.togglewidgets.apk file
anyway.. try this .. hopefully its better
Ok, then let's go - here is the original stock Sonyericsson on/off widget APK:
The size is better, but still not the same. Now it's a little bit smaller than the original toggle graphic. And there is some "ghosting frame" around it. And when "starting" there is a green line below the graphic. A made some screenshots again (off, start, on):
hehe.. live with it...
Hmm, sorry, don't want to make you angry!
I'm really glad, that you try to help me, which is really kind of you!!
I now tried the newest version, but this looks like at the attached screenshots.
Please, can we give it a last try?
I changed the size of graphics new with Photoshop, now they have 80x101 pixels, which is the size of the screenshot graphic. So it should fit, when it is displayed 1:1 and not zoomed by the xml-Code.
OK, i now managed to change the graphics myself, which are correct in size but the ghosting frame seems to be an xml code issue. Despite that the position of the toggle isn't correct (too much at the top, 1 or 2 pixels too much at the right side), which must be an xml issue, too.
Somebody else an idea how to get rid off the "ghosting frames" an how to correct the position?
EDIT:
Ok, i now managed to get rid of the "ghosting frames" by making "appwidget_settings_divider.9.png" completely transparent.
Now, the only thing to do is the correct position. I keep you updated.
Hi
I've got a problem with the app-drawer in Krabappels ICS rom 20.1 (similar to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26959034&postcount=2504 ): When I open it, I have 6 windows with 4 columns and at least 5 rows, while the 5th row is barely visible (maybe the first 3-4 lines of pixels of an icon), sorting is "last installed" and it's the same with "alphabetically" and "last used".
If I chose my own sorting, I've got 8 windows and a 4x4 matrix, so I can see every app. Funny fact: I never used this before, so there can't be any positioning infos for the icons
I tried deleting the cachepartition in boot recovery (including Dalvik-Cache), deleting app-caches and history via Android Assistant, but it's allways the same. And I also didn't find the mentioned "Clear Cache" button. Is there a way to "tell" the app-drawer to use either more windows OR a 4x4 matrix for the automated sortings?

Sorting: alphabetically, last used, last installed:

Hi.
I updated to KA21.1 with a fresh install (formatting system, cache, data, etc.; made a factory reset) and the App-Drawer Issue is no longer. But I got another Question now: How can I add a folder to my Home Screen? There is one Folder named Media in the bottom bar, so there is no problem with showing folders in general, but when I try to add shortcuts, there is no option to make a new folder.
And theres a second, more serious problem: The right button doesn't show a menu any more, I can't get into the device settings!
I don't think, krabappel is looking into this forum, so could anybody please tell him to answer my questions? Since I may not post in the developers area ...
**wtf, I have to wait 5 minutes for an edit? ohhwww ... this freaky forum is NOT userfriendly
Draw one app from the appdrawer to your homescreen and put it on another app and then you get a folder
Sometimes you must it figure it out by yourself and posting in a hurry a new thread, you can ask it in general chat in Q/A topic and about your 1st post, go to settings then apps click on all, scroll down till you see xperia home, click on it and erase data, dont ask where just see it by your own and that is here more then enough explained buddy, just search
sent from my Xperia Neo V Supercharged ICS 4.0.4
SOLVED
Hi.
Thanks. I read that with the folder somewhere (perhaps samsung touchwhiz?), but I didn't know, KA21 was now using that, too.
About the app drawer: Since I made a fresh install, it's working fine now. I did a search for that and found the respective post, but I misunderstood the part where it says "Xperia Home >>App<<", I thought it was the entry in the device settings "Xperia (tm)", and there was no way to clear any cache ^^ But now I know, where to look at. I also found a way to enter the device settings, circuitous but it's ok.
Thank you very much again. Sometimes the only thing one needs is just a cue
Hi,
here you have fully working launcher from Defy's older brother Motorola Razr M.
What should I do with it? Follow these steps:
1. unpack zip folder
2. copy Homescreen.apk to system/app via Root Explorer and set permission to RW-R-R, then hit it, and install.
3. Install Widgets and HomeConfig like a usual aps.
4. Reboot, and after that change your launcher to Homescreen forever.
5. Go to settings/developer options then change all three options to associate with animations to x0.5, activate "press back to kill app" and disable adb notification - all these things will help you in your daily use.

-Also I recomend you to change CM10 theme to MotoInspired v2.0 (remember to reboot it twice after apply) all thanks to NITRO_100 for his amazing job.
-And to make it more Razr look, change bootanimation to Razr M optimalized by espaciosalter20
-After all steps done, change your wallpaper to default Moto. Razr I included in package
Thanks, mate Could you tell us how well it performs? All the versions posted so far were pretty bad when it came to performance :/
Keen to see how this performs all efforts so far have suffered bad lag and screen res issues.
Last time I used hdpi version of the razr m launcher it was very fast. The one from atrix hd was pretty laggy and buggy.
I'm on sevenrock´s 20130117 build, and must say it, everything works absolutely fine! There are some typical lags as usual on Defy, but its realy worth a try.
There are no screen resolution issues, launcher was resized to fit Defy resolution.

The first step is a bit odd... After copying it to system/app, you cannot install it, that's what the copying was - a manual install. And after that the launcher works fine.
Widgets don't work, though. Will try coping the to system/apps with proper permissions, instead of just installing.
*EDIT* Uninstalled, copied, set RW-R--R-- - still doesn't work. "Problem loading widget." ("The Circles widget is not supported on 3rd party home screens" can be read in the background).
Any help with that? The launcher is pretty neat, and the performance is satisfactory, I think I'll be keeping it Circle Widgets would be a great plus!
*EDIT#2* Just thinking about how well this launcher is going to work on CM10.1 with the 3.0.8 kernel
*EDIT#2* Okay, so I've found the guide somewhere else. The first step is to copy Homescreen.apk to system/apps, set the aforementioned permissions, and then install and let it overwrite the already installed app. Doing that didn't solve the CircleWidgets problem, so I've searched a bit more and found someone saying that it works if you just install Homescreen.apk as a normal app - I did that and Circles really do work
The launcher and the widget are very sweet, I'm keeping the combo! Weather is pretty good, too. But what does the HomeConfig app do?
smoother than any other Atrix HD or Razr launcher
still have some lag
but that clock is so charming
I'll keep it
thanks:good:
I've got to switch back to Trebuchet/Apex/Nova... This pack looks great, but it's killing my phone Launcher, circleWidgets and Weather.apk are all loaded and I feel it's too much for my phone... Moving left to quick settings is always slow, animations of the launcher lag a bit, moving to Favourites in the app drawer lags and widget previews are always slow to show up :/
I will definitely try it out when CM10.1 shows up with the new kernel, that might help
Cheers and thanks for the share, I enjoyed trying it!
